You know what?! I'm absolutely in love with this song right now and i swear to god...that is the best explanation of this song i found so far soo thank you very much!❤❤
I doubt I'll ever find it explained better than this! I especially appreciate the part towards the end where you explain why you sometimes fret notes that you won't actually play, I always wondered about that. Thanks!
my little girl sings this song in the car so i had to learn it. its a tricky one to get under the fingers but like anything once you get it you'll never forget it. great lesson you got a sub bro, cheers🤟😎🎸
Fabulous Rob, a tricky thing to break down but your breakdown is ace n easy to understand. Not saying it’s the easiest riff to play but I’m getting there, thanks to you. You’ve made what could be a ball ache & a long boring lesson into something most enjoyable & cryptic. Many thanks, Jon. Up the NorthWest👍
We all know and love Dolly Parton for her amazing voice, but this is such a beautiful development of Travis picking by DP. Imagine picking like this while singing. She used to do that all the time. I believe she now has a backup guitarist that performs the picking while she's singing. She'll be singing and strumming. I have a huge amount of respect for Dolly.
This was one of the first songs I got right , it does sound harder than it actually is, but it is basic chords at the end of the day. I personally found that accentuating the base line helps keep the rhythm.
Cool tutorial Rob…. Thanks… got the hang of the riff… now to spend a couple of months practicing to speed up and making it sound half decent!! Really appreciated and it’s indeed a great riff!!!
Thank you for this clear and amazing lesson. I’m being gifted a Classical Guitar for Christmas this year from my partner. I haven’t played in over 10 years and really struggling to get back into it and play on my steel string after all this time! (My fingers have gone soft!) Will be checking out more of your stuff to practice!
Amazing job! I found this song deceitfully challenging to learn when one of my students asked to learn it. I was like yeah no problemoooohhh...hmm... I'm gonna have to learn this with you and practice. But then I told them, since I'm learning it with you, if I master it first, I know you're not practicing haha! Btw, the Am with your 1st finger off is an Amsus2
3 days and i can play that begin/main fingerpick riff slowly now .. Nice .. The rest was easy because i played allready a few songs like Dust in The wind and Street Spirit.. 🙂
I quite like this, nice job matey. You seem to have a similar way of getting your head around fingerstyle pieces, as I do. Big fan of Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, Jim Croce, Nick Drake, etc and some of their stuff seems impossible when you try to learn it as it's 'meant' to be learned. But like the way you teach and understand music, it can be learned in a different way and the end results are identical to the original.
started to get the hang of it from your video, so downloaded from the blue link and found that only the first page match yours? 2345&6 all different and no 7. can you amend this ? cheers
The best explanation for this song EVER!! I’ll be coming back for the next one, thank you so so much for being so clear and concise. Cheers

The best lesson i have had for Jolene...thank you Rob!
Please keep doing what you’re doing, just the way you’re doing it.
Thank you
As a self taught guitarist, your ability to explain things so simply helps me (and I imagine many others) greatly, thanks mate!
You are an amazing teacher. My favourite on UA-cam. So glad I found your channel. Thank you! 👏
Top lesson! So easy to follow….like a magic trick
Outstanding!! Thank you so much!
Thanks!

Great stuff Rob. I’ve been trying to work this out for years. Many thanks.
Another great lesson. Interestingly, I've had the main riff down for some time, but was messing up the picking pattern in the verses.
the picking in the verses doesn't have to be exact..A long as you're picking the correct chords 'in time' it'll sound fine.
Don’t forget to tap your feet… It will make it 10 times easier… Great lesson… I am your very newest subscriber… Cheers and happy new year!
I have to get this song right. Going to spend some time with this one and get it done soon. Thank you very much.
Great tutorial! Thanks. Gonna try try try.
Very genuine lesson. Trying to help us out. Even a bit of reggae; fun. Thanks a lot!

Page 1 of Jolene, the intro riff does not alternate between A and D string in the third and 4th measures. Is that correct. Great video
I’ll check. 👍🏻
Thank you sir
Great stuff Rob, this should keep me quite for hours and hours😂
Hi Rob, can I ask what nylon guitar you are using there ? I'm considering getting a Cordoba 7/8 Dolce , any recommendations for entry level nylons ?
