I was watching Jun’sKitchen the other day, and he got a knife from the thrift store which was in just as bad condition as the machete here. If he had electric sanded it the way you did here, all the beautiful engravings on the knife would have been scratched off 😢
I don't think it's recreation that's the problem! It's not easy to constantly come up with original video ideas, and there are plenty of high-quality videos that are about the same topic! Hadhoodi Hafez and IF it was there are possibilities there might be engravements that could lead back to the Secret War of Vietnam or the previous owner, but many that I know of don’t have engravements only because they never did engrave other than sharpen.
Isabelle S it’s cause this guy is a fucking idiot. He soaked the machete with the handle on, didn’t even go far enough with the sandpapered grits and called white rouge white rogue.
Next time try polishing it by hand because you can damage the blade very easily. I know these big machines can make it faster but you can get a more better result when hand done. Also it really scratches the knife up from scratching it with the metal sponge and the sand paper. Im not trying to be mean in anyway, this is just a freindly tip for next time.

You mean the obviously hand sanded method Jun used, which is the same as normally sanding it. Hell, do you even know what swords were sanded with originally? Rounded stones., connected to a pedal/
All that Juns does it give it a mirror finish you weebs. You can do the same thing with this machete, just takes more time. I know most people are in awe because of how pretty it looks, you can easily give ANY steel object a mirror finish, either with sandpaper and a whetstone.
Pretty good resto, I agree the sander seemed a bit like a "hammer for a scalpel" situation, but the blade edge looked good, you left the pitting, and kept and stained the original wood. 8/10
MayMay Machine almost how he’s doing but you *must* put your hand and apply pressure on the part of the blade you’re sharpening all the way down to the heel and when you’ve accomplished a burr, *but* only apply pressure when pulling the blade backwards to prevent cutting into the stone. This is how the Japanese did and still do it, and they seem to have a good idea or two about sharpening stones.
Remember to always use a metal that is softer than what you're trying to clean or remove rust from. The steel wool scratched the brass, you'd want to use a brass/copper wool or brush in order to clean brass without scratching it.
For anyone wondering, the the smaller the number is the more abrasive the sand paper is. 80 grit sandpaper is extremely coarse and will take more material off the surface, 220 grit sandpaper is very fine and will take less material away.
Like the last sword it was historical so you use historical tools on it not modern tools. It might had have something please don’t do this buzzfeed like the other video the comments were filled with people telling you about that ingraving but you didn’t listen buzzfeed
what, only a few rubs on the whetstone, and you should have left that sheath so it has that antique look, its not like as if your gonna go in battle with it now
You... forgot some stuff, First of all, you forgot to protect it from rust. REALLY? You Didn’t clean it enough because you just used a tooth brush. You didn’t sand the edge (the sharp part) of the blade to make it flat.
People don't know how blades are made or built in the first place. Electric tools only hurt a blade if you use them improperly. A good 90% of modern blacksmiths use electric belt sanders to sharpen their knives, with whetstone to put finishing touches. People are just triggered because they've seen some Jun guy mirror polish a knife.
I HAVE many times and just for proof i tried the method used in the video TWICE ( to give it a fair chance )and it ruined the blades integrity (it thinned the blade and ruined the temper making it bend too easily)and for the power sander thing that’s pre tempering they are shaping the knife not to mention you can use belt sander on the taper but not the rest of the blade because the taper IS’NT what GIVES THE KNIFE IT’S INTEGRITY and I know this because I apprentice in this THIS IS LITERALLY MY JOB and I don’t pretend to know what I’m doing for UA-cam money (sorry for the rant btw)
I mean he did alright but just because I can’t do better than him doesn’t mean he’s good it just means I suck at it and hey I’m not saying he’s bad at restoring thing it’s just I think he could improve a lot
No i imagine any of us could do a better job cause one, every problem he has with it, SAND IT OFF. I cried when he pulled out the electric sander, just remake the handle and sheath like black beard projects, in my opinion
Can we all stop arguing about how he restored it? He did what he wanted to do, and he owns it so he has the right to do that. Sure, other people have done stuff like it, but can we just appreciate how good and clean it looks? He said he’s happy about how it turned out, and that’s what matters. Not to offend anyone, of course. Just thought I’d point it out.
The "brass piece" is called a ferrule. That it needed to be glued means that the handle should be replaced as it is worn or has shrunk. I'd say both. It shows signs of cracking in addition to the wear. Ferrules are traditionally a friction fit.
I was watching Jun’sKitchen the other day, and he got a knife from the thrift store which was in just as bad condition as the machete here. If he had electric sanded it the way you did here, all the beautiful engravings on the knife would have been scratched off 😢

juns video is better *COUGH COUGH*
imchris Jun never did a machete
For anyone wondering, the the smaller the number is the more abrasive the sand paper is. 80 grit sandpaper is extremely coarse and will take more material off the surface, 220 grit sandpaper is very fine and will take less material away.
This is the only buzzfeed video that is actually alright
Like the last sword it was historical so you use historical tools on it not modern tools. It might had have something please don’t do this buzzfeed like the other video the comments were filled with people telling you about that ingraving but you didn’t listen buzzfeed
Levitating Coco Historical my ass it was a cheap build sword
Yeah, it wasn't some masterfully forged sword from the year 1000 or anything. Truly old swords usually are far too rusted to actually be restored;
Federal Government of Free America better off in the museum with the handle on
never let buzzfeed restore knifes/machetes/katanas/any type of blunt weapon
why does the narrator sound like the narrator from troom troom?
lmfaoo
*ItS Not A pRobLem AnYMore!* 😂
That machete is beautiful
The only good BuzzFeed content
what, only a few rubs on the whetstone, and you should have left that sheath so it has that antique look, its not like as if your gonna go in battle with it now
not again.. STOP DOING SHITY RESTORATIONS ALL YOU'RE DOING IS RUINING THEM
Out Of Time true uno
It’s just a machete they are 15 dollars
Soliquidus BiggestBosselot probably not. i would bet that that machete would have only been used for farming.
Soliquidus BiggestBosselot A barong is a Philippine shirt. I would know cause I'm Filipino and worn them multiple times for formal occasions
Soliquidus BiggestBosselot Yea I'm half lmao. From Ifugao but I've never heard of a barong machete.
Smh Juns kitchen is so much better like gosh where are the cats in this
STFU
Suga King no
From what, that one video of a barely rusted knife where he cuts out the bit where he sands it?
Cats bitch?!
These types of videos are satisfying
best buzzfeed video i have ever seen. usually i downvote every buzzfeed video but this was a exception...
I swear I have watched this before...
Marcela Pena jen did a similar video lol
Marcela Pena probably a re upload, I swear I've watched this SAME video...
It’s cause they did a sword one
No I’m certain I’ve watched this on 😂😂😂
Marcela Pena it is because it is a re upload it was first uploaded on facebook a few months ago
Does it annoy anyone else that at the end of every sentence he like talks down. You know it sounds like he’s bored
Emma Hinman the way he speaks is so damn annoying
Davis Whitaker I don’t get it he’s showing off his skills!!! And everybody who took shop in high school suddenly became master craftsmen.
He is held off at gun point fearing for his life being forced to act like he knows what he is doing and clean a machete for them. Don't blame him.
You... forgot some stuff,
First of all, you forgot to protect it from rust. REALLY? You Didn’t clean it enough because you just used a tooth brush. You didn’t sand the edge (the sharp part) of the blade to make it flat.
Looks good man! Great job!
This whole video was satisfying asf
It’s a “Barong” machete they are from Southeast Asia
You guys know everything...
What about "Golok"?
There goes all of its value...
I love how everyone in he comments looks like they know how to a restoration in pure perfection 👌😂
Those sounds are so satisfying 😩
The only good buzz feed video
why is everyone attacking this guy, ill like to see you do a better job than him
A D A M Yeah every body is blaming him
People don't know how blades are made or built in the first place.
Also his sharpening job is low key trash
I mean he did alright but just because I can’t do better than him doesn’t mean he’s good it just means I suck at it and hey I’m not saying he’s bad at restoring thing it’s just I think he could improve a lot
did you guys not learn from the feedback on the awful "Katana Restoration" video that you guys have no idea how to treat weapons?
Jackie Composes For real though lmao
The way this dude finishes his sentences pisses me off so much.
Bush did 9/11 jet fuel can't melt steel beams
Now people are hating on the way he talks now
Ok
Why are so many top tier professionals watching a tutorial is the question I now have to ask xD
Thanks for your great work. The machete looks better now.
Welp if there were any engravings on that rip ;-;
Carit World this one could have been different
90% of the comments here are explaining why this is a bad idea and is ruining the expense
Where tf is Jen.
these restorations of random objects are oddly satisfying
thats why i watch them :)
Stop with the hate comments .
Tbh it’s a good attempt for your first try
R.I.P. Machete.
I don’t think any of y’all who are hating on him could do a much better job either 😑
Fucka you too
No i imagine any of us could do a better job cause one, every problem he has with it, SAND IT OFF. I cried when he pulled out the electric sander, just remake the handle and sheath like black beard projects, in my opinion
Hunter Masterclass possibly not maybe it could’ve been too damaged just to do that
EXACTLY
So their criticism is automatically invalid?
Should have busted used the toothbrush from the start
Can we all stop arguing about how he restored it? He did what he wanted to do, and he owns it so he has the right to do that. Sure, other people have done stuff like it, but can we just appreciate how good and clean it looks? He said he’s happy about how it turned out, and that’s what matters. Not to offend anyone, of course. Just thought I’d point it out.
Awesome job. Thanks for the video my Bladed Brother ⚔️
Coke does this in 2 seconds
Plainoldbread especially the other kind of coke cause that machete is messed up 😂😂😂
Plainoldbread
🤘🤘🤘
Please stop
kiwami japan is better
Nice, this is a correct way to restore blades without destroying it 🤣🙏
Althought, you forgot to clean the inner side of the scabbard 🙏
The sound of sand paper is worse than the feeling you get when you realize your phone isn’t in your pocket
*Mashitty*
Satisfying.slime z Amazing, mate
Oof
Jesus Christ people are triggered
Great video man! Now I'm restoring mine!
The "brass piece" is called a ferrule. That it needed to be glued means that the handle should be replaced as it is worn or has shrunk. I'd say both. It shows signs of cracking in addition to the wear. Ferrules are traditionally a friction fit.
I never thought that cleaning a machete was so satisfying
