- A review of the Countyline 40 ton splitter 4 way wedge and stacking firewood to get ready for winter. This wedge is different than the smaller one they sell in tractor supply stores. I found it on the Tractor Supply Website here:
www.tractorsup...
Bought this same
4 way for our splitter. Works great especially behind a tractor mounted wood splitter. Speed up production.
Had a lot of fun using that splitter myself.
We split a lot of Beech and Iron wood and learned to pick our battles for the wedge. Those trees are pretty stringy but you can tell what rounds will split well with the 4 way.
For sure. There’s a right tool for every job!
PRO TIP. They sell covers that completely cover your IBC tote on Amazon for about $30. So once you have seasoned and dried your wood as you normally would (using the cut off lid of the IBC tote) then place the full cover to keep all moisture out. When stacked neatly by your boiler you won’t have those unsightly and sometimes ugly plastic lids to look at. Check them out. You can reuse them time and time again.
hi there nice splitting. need to do some my self john
Tis’ the season!
I think I’ve got enough for this year now. Trying to start getting ahead for next.
Nice!
Thanks for checking us out everyone! One of the questions I've gotten a lot is why split so small for an outdoor wood boiler? Well I've got a gasification style boiler, super efficient, but it likes dry wood and smaller is better if it doesn't get a nice few months to dry.

Just curious why your splitting so small for outdoor boiler?
They must not have that wedge anymore....dang...I don't see it on the website.
Ya. I tried to look for one there earlier this week and didn’t see it.
Here is the SKU to look out for:
SKU# 1350612
When I click your link it doesn’t take me to the 40 ton wedge. When I search on tractor supply only the 25 and 30 ton come up. Really need one of these for my splitter.
It looks like they are out of stock. Several folks have told me they could. It find the 40 ton I referenced. I would not recommend using the 25 ton. I can’t speak to the 30, but I imagine it will be subpar.
Here is the SKU to keep an eye out for.
SKU# 1350612
Just curious - what is the purpose of putting the red rubber band behind the wedge ?
It stops the wedge on the return stroke about a second early by pulling the lever. Since the wedge doesn’t go all the way back, the next stroke has to travel less to split the wood.
Shaves about a second off each split. Nothing crazy.
I made a video showing it closed here.

@@ArborActive ahh.....I didn't pick up on it being tied to the control lever at first. Very clever! Thanks for sharing.
Not sure why you want kindling for a wood boiler
It’s a gasification boiler, so it doesn’t like the freshly split stuff quite as much as older conventional style boilers. When it’s late in fall I split stuff pretty small to mix in with the bigger stuff.
It dries out quicker and the boiler seems to not mind the not so seasoned wood in smaller sizes.
I wish the wedge for the 25 ton would work this good on the 25 ton . I have both and I don’t like the wedge design !!!!
I have been pleasantly surprised at how well
It is doing. I think the wider wings make a big difference.
Yes sir , I’m going to have mine for the 25 ton cut off and new ones welded on !!!!
I wonder if it would fit my old troybuilt ?
I can measure the dimensions if you like. There are several sizes and I have 2 of them.
How big is the wedge on your Troy Built?
I have a older 27 ton Troybuilt, think I’m using the smaller one, works fine. The one I purchased from TSC is made buy Swisher.
Sorry I wrote too soon, hear you say Gasification. I have a 12 year old Central Boiler
All good! I’m actually going to be posting another video of the boiler tonight! It’s great and very efficient, but when wood isn’t seasoned I like to keep the splits pretty small and mix it in with bigger seasoned splits.
pretty small boiler wood
Yes, it’s a heatmaster g100. One of the smaller units for sure. Does nicely fit just heating the house.
Which TSC location did you purchase 40 ton 4 way splitter from? Coming up empty on my searches - even when using SKU# 1350612
I bought it online, but it seems like the SKU is no longer available. I couldn’t even find in until this summer and people have been reporting they can find it either the past few weeks. I wonder if it was a limited run or it was out of stock.
It looks like the 40 ton machines are starting to show back up at stores so maybe they will get these back soon too?
I found SKU 135061299 40 ton
Gf works at TSC, pretty sure they dropped the 40 ton model. We got the second to last one the store had for only $700 (msrp was 3k).
I want to hear the splitter not a load of rubbish music sounds
What you boys going to do when your boy joe outlaws wood burning.
Federal Govt is giving tax credits to switch to high efficiency wood burners. Make of that what you will.
@@ArborActive Maybe for now. High efficiency means expensive and you're using a GAS powered splitter. They hate gas powered anything.
@@silent1967 why all the” they”and do you have any concerns for the future or is it only about you? Going to the farm show and hearing all the outside wood boiler sellers trying to get me to buy the “old”models before the new regulations take hold and I tell them that I want the “new” high efficiency one( I have close neighbors that doesn’t need to be smoked out)
@@donchristie420 Whine whine whine, give me a break. You must be another democrat.
@@silent1967 I was responding to your whining- dude
I always do my firewood handling with no gloves 🙄
I do. Worked in a sawmill for 8 years and never wore gloves then.
Where were you able to source a 4 way wedge for a 40 ton Countyline splitter? Looking on the TSC website I could not find one. It looks like the parts number is YTL-008-924.
It looks like they’ve been out of stock the last couple of months. I’ve been keeping an eye out as a few people have been reaching out trying to find these.
I’ll give an update if I manage to find some.
Big deal.
