The difference between players taking a while to settle in to United and Liverpool in those days was the fact United had much higher standards within the squad. So they might see “it as it took a year to reach the required level” where as for Liverpool it might seem as though the reached the required level straight away because the only target was to make the top 4, so the pressure and the scrutiny on individual performances was never remotely similar. Still probably isn’t close now. Everything United do is still headline news.
Let me give context to the Torres transfer, that transfer window in January 2011, Chelsea's priority was to sign WAYNE ROONEY from United. They agreed personal terms and Rooney went to a point of seeking a transfer request, of course Fergie rejected the request and blocked the transfer in the final week and Chelsea were left without their number one target in the final week of the window, that's when they went for Torres and sealed the deal on deadline day. Sometimes those nearly transfers of between 09-11 for Chelsea could have had them having one of the most potent attacks of all time (Aguero, Robinho and Neymar)
That mid 80s Spurs side was so good. They were never challengers but as a kid on the terraces at Birmingham watching Hoddle and Waddle take us apart was mesmerising.

25:19 one of the reasons why Liverpool was not that successful in the 90s and the 2000s is because that team was not quick at all. One of the reason in 2001/02 that Liverpool finished second is because they had deadly pace upfront with Michael Owen and Nicolas Anelka.
Torres for Chelsea wasn't the same as he was in early days at Liverpool... but his quality did come through in the 2012 UCL run in the Nou Camp and winning the corner in the final against Bayern... so that will do for Chelsea fans
I don’t think there is a bigger sycophant towards Gerrard than Carragher, it’s so cringey to watch. Making out that Torres was only any good because of Gerrard is embarrassing. That team was probably the best Liverpool prem team pre klopp due to the fact Gerrard was moved out of CM for the most part. Stopped him leaving gaps all over the place. Alonso and Mascherano were great technical and smart midfielders. Gerrard was physically and technically good but was positionally inept put it politely.
If Shearer had gone to Man Utd, Arsenal wouldn't have won the league in 1998 & 2002. Shearer would've made Man Utd even better and he'd have scored more goals with the wingers they had which would've been a dream for Shearer.
Cantona was the final piece of the jigsaw brilliant times. RVP was a stroke of genius by fergie and showed his and utds pulling power.. Irwin was another bargain one of our best ever defenders can't remember him ever missing a pen and great free taker 🇮🇪

Gary said Bobby Charlton only played for one club (Utd), but he actually played for six clubs. I saw him score a goal for Preston.
That mid 80s Spurs side was so good. They were never challengers but as a kid on the terraces at Birmingham watching Hoddle and Waddle take us apart was mesmerising.
Sausage
Both Gary and Carra knew if they left their clubs their careers would have fizzled out. The networks they’d built around themselves at their clubs were crucial to their longevity in their respective careers
😂😂😂
I genuinely don’t think I’ve ever seen two people love the sound of their own voice other than Neville and carragher, Jesus
It’s a show where they have to talk you sausage what are they meant to do sit and look at one another
@@warriorrob1 doesn’t matter, the pair of them CONSTANTLY Interrupt people in every single show they’re on, carragher constantly makes everything about himself, brings every single situation back to himself
You must be one miserable person in life. It’s just different personalities. People aren’t robots and the way they build up dynamics with their guests and between themselves is on the level of, if not better than, Martin Tyler and Andy Gray
@@Faz-e8o I’m not miserable at all, listening to Neville and carragher constantly shouting over each other like a pair of infantilised fools makes me miserable though
Brilliant as always
Good as always. Set looks like early TVam. Cheap, which it isn’t I’m sure.
How long has Gary worked with Roy Keane to refer to him as "British" ...this is ingrained in them
Was it not Cantona that started waiting back after training to do extras - then they all started doing it.... that's influence!! 👌 👏
Peak Torres❤
Enjoyed listening about this side of the game.
I change preset by accident A LOT. Preset up and down should absolutely be reassignable.
I also don’t like that when I go out of gig view to preset view and want to move from bank 1 to 2, the screen changes to edit view - now I can’t see my preset names and I’m guessing which footswitch correlates to which preset 🤷🏻♂️
Great episode lads
25:19 one of the reasons why Liverpool was not that successful in the 90s and the 2000s is because that team was not quick at all. One of the reason in 2001/02 that Liverpool finished second is because they had deadly pace upfront with Michael Owen and Nicolas Anelka.
Love Wrightys lingo, so cool
This was fantastic
When Benitez said something similar about Gerrard's lack of positional sense on the overlap last week, Carra looked a bit taken back, you're right.
Gary does my head in downplaying his ability so often. Honestly so frustrating given we all remember how good he really was. Great show nonetheless
Carragher smelling his key before the start of this
Ovèrlap lads give the "footballer, not too bright" stereotype a proper kicking. These lads definitely know their onions.
100k a week for gary, man of the people wasn't enough
19:50 - "Even Stevie isnt classed as a one club man". Yes Jamie because he played for more than one club.
The “I always remember “ and “do you know something” podcast !
At this moment in time.
To be fair
they should do best double acts Stevie Torres, Yorke Cole, Beardsley Lineker
👑 Cantona 👑
Ronaldo 08 was epitome of influential player to win a league
If Shearer had gone to Man Utd, Arsenal wouldn't have won the league in 1998 & 2002. Shearer would've made Man Utd even better and he'd have scored more goals with the wingers they had which would've been a dream for Shearer.
It’s like a breakfast tv studio from the eighties
Dude 98 Arsenal was devastating. Overmars and Anelka.
Honestly hurts me that Liverpool picked to sign Diouf instead of Anelka when we had him on loan.. joke decision
@@crookieeeAnelka would’ve made a major impact in your team at that team.
Don't forget Bergkamp too. Those 3 were the stuff of nightmares for us Utd fans.
Cantona was the final piece of the jigsaw brilliant times. RVP was a stroke of genius by fergie and showed his and utds pulling power.. Irwin was another bargain one of our best ever defenders can't remember him ever missing a pen and great free taker 🇮🇪
Robert Pires took a whole season to settle at Arsenal. Looked totally out of his depth at first. Went on to become a great Prem player. I doubt players would have that time these days.
Just started watching. Let me guess, arsenal, liverpool and of course and utd.
Sausage
And it was. What about Klinsmann, zola, di canio. These guy really are a couple of uncle alberts
What shoes is Carra wearing?
Cantona is always in my best United 11
The way carragher bigs himself up and has convinced modern football fans as if he was a baller when he played. No way he was worth 50mill now and definitely not more than Neville. Wouldn’t pay 40mill for him. Neville would probably get 40-45.
He’s saying he’s de ligt level, konate, saliba,Gabriel, Laporte, stones,Dias level. Hes a shorter dunk at best!!
Muppets will say he’s more because he’s cb,he was back up for Neville for England and played in a poor Liverpool side most his career.
Neville and Carragher were defenders, not saying nobody wanted them, but the most sought are always forwards
Carra still hurting CR7 never shook his hand post match. "Please Ronaldo please see me glazing you"said Carra!!
They 100% didn’t always work for United. Veron, Forlan, Obertan, Barthez etc
Kleberson, Bebe djemba djemba plenty of duds
torres highlights of his career are playing against nemanja vidic. i'm sure many of you'll know liverpool fans like to bring that up a lot....
What the overlap needs is more Utd and Liverpool chat. You hardly ever hear it
Lots on aresnal
The staunchness of neville last week with his assertion of utd in top 4 . Perhaps they will but i don't thumbing it will be under ten haag if it does happen
7hag gone by Xmas, get real
▪︎Pep - Treble,4peat,Centurions,Domestic Quadruple,just 7yrs in PL
▪︎G.Neville - Ferguson is ahead of Pep
😂😂
Could listen to these talk football for years
Current value of them at peak:
Neville - £50m
Carragher - £30m
Wright - £60m
Todays market Carragher is going for maybe £20m, how much did Brentford buy Ben Mee from Burnley for? Craig Dawson from West Ham to Wolves?
Half a million quid in the 90s is £30/40/50m nowadays though
I know he’s unashamedly biased towards Liverpool but Carragher trying to say Suarez was more influential than Cantona is comical 😂 !
