    As taken from the wiki: "On October 23, 2077, the day that the bombs fell, U.S. Navy jet aircraft 350 crashed in Point Lookout, ejecting its pilot, who got stuck in a tree some distance from the crash site. After the crash, a local soldier from the Turtledove Detention Camp removed the blackbox recording but was attacked and killed by the hostile inhabitants of Point Lookout; however he managed to kill at least five of them as shown by the skeletons surrounding his body armed with spades and axes, as well as the ammunition and firearm lying next to his body."
    So you weren't too far off, keep up the great videos.

    As I am a aircraft expert, the aircraft is a p80 shooting star, one of America's first jet aircraft, used at the start of the Cold War. Also to translate the black box recording, this pilot tries to request landing permission while flying through thick fog but to no reply, while believing to be over water, he is going to land on the water and send out a distress beacon, unaware that he is over point lookout. When he is near the ground he realises that he is over point lookout and so he bails out of his aircraft.

      Pebble's the P in P80 doesn't stand for prototype, it stands for "pursuit" aircraft, hence P-51 mustang, P-47 Thunderbolt. The P-80 just happened to be at the point in time when the US military/army airforce changed all their designations.
      F-80 ("Fighter")
      A-20 ("Attacker")
      B-29 ("Bomber")
      Yes I know the "F" was also used for carrier aircraft

    The plane seems to be a P-80 Shooting Star (one of the very first jet fighters of the US Airforce)
    It's interesting that the aviation tecnology seems to be frozen since the Great Divide between our reality and this one, that plane flying in 2077 is more than enough proof of this.
    And from what is said by the pilot, It seems to not be on standard terminology, but I'm just an aviation fan, not a true pilot, al it's just my opinion based on what I know.

    I think the guy with the 10mm is supposed to be military (hence the retrieved black box) and the locals ambushed and killed him. As for the bombs, shoddycast has an excellent video on why the radiation stuck around. Basically big bombs leave less fallout because of complicated physics stuff, so to produce the effect witnessed you need a huge number of smaller bombs, which tracks with older fallout 1 and 2 cannon

    On the subject of nuclear warheads, maybe in the Fallout universe they were still using the large "city-buster" warheads that were developed in the early Cold War here in our universe, which might help explain the fallout getting to Point Lookout.

  • @jb99rapp
    @jb99rapp 7 років тому +69

    The aircraft appears to be a fallout version of the P-80, anyway I have a translation for the black box. "I have multiple flashpoints on the horizon" This more than likely means he saw the flashes from the nuclear blasts. The second part is where he's trying to get a landing clearance or navigation assistance since he's trying to find a place to land but he's having a hard time due to low visibility aka fog. The third one is kinda confusing probably due to Bethesda trying to make aircraft lingo sound cool but I presume he's got 10 minutes of fuel left till he has to land, The thing about the marker is possibly alluding to an ILS or instrument landing system. The fourth one is a little more clear, He thinks he's over the ocean since he can't see the ground due to the fog and he's going to try a water landing. I'd assume the INS pinger is his survival radio that will send out pings in the hopes that someone will come to his rescue since he'll need it when he crash lands. The part that's strange is why he's putting his flaps up since those will help add lift and help slow him down for landing. Anyway, cherubs are the altitude under 1,000 feet so decent to 8 cherubs would be 800 feet. The three green means he got all three of his landing gear down. The fifth one is pretty straight forward he's at 500 feet he's spotted a treeline so he knows he's over land and is prepping to "pull the loud handle" which means he's going to pull the ejector seat lever to bail out and ditch the aircraft. The one confusing part is the "throttle east on four lights" It's either his throttle position or it's his angle of attack indicator he's referring to, probably an oversight by Bethesda. As we can see he made it out of the aircraft but unfortunately he got stuck in a tree. My theory on the bodies is that the skeleton in the parachute is for sure the pilot but the one that's propped up against the fuselage of the plane is a soldier sent out from the detention center since it appears to be over the flight path of the plane or they tracked his "INS" pinger. But it looks like the locals found the pilot before the soldier did and then it appears he may have been ambushed trying to recover the black box from the aircraft. But like most of these situations in fallout it's up to your interpretation. Anyway, I hope this was helpful!

    • @StacieMMeier
      @StacieMMeier 7 років тому

      "throttle easy on four lights" means simply he was trying to glide into a crash landing without stalling. Normally you see it stated as Open or Close throttle. Bethesda possibly didn't understand this though and simply wanted people to know he was trying to ditch the plane. My guess, he didn't have throttle closed and he wouldn't have it Open. He assumed he was going to hit water and so didnt worry about having to pull up much, just enough to have the belly hit the water without destroying plane. At last seconds, he noticed a forest , and attempted to pull up, this hints he was gliding in without stalling totally. He made a last second choice...crash with plane or eject. He choose eject. And we are certain he didn't believe he was over the ocean as he states, he is trying to find the transponder beacon (The outer one which hints he was trying to reach DC). Suggesting he was going to DC and since in Navy probably from Norfolk. He attempted to find the outer beacon and couldn't, reason it was destroyed. He very likely knew he was over Chesapeake or Potomac. He had to fly with Instruments. Nukes caused issue with him seeing ground. The fact he managed to land on Point Lookout was simply a bad luck on his part.

    • @calvinbarnes1721
      @calvinbarnes1721 7 років тому +1

      I would guess the "State one plus one zero" means he has a minute and ten seconds of fuel left. The "flaps up" could be Bethesda got it backwards, like having your gear down for a water landing. As for "throttle easy on four lights", four main fuel tanks with individual low fuel indicator lights.

    • @StacieMMeier
      @StacieMMeier 7 років тому +1

      +Calvin Barnes
      While i agree normally. Perhaps Bethesda did get this one correct. Putting the flaps down slows you down. The pilot was attempting to land on water...and not stall. So putting the flaps up would be correct. For example the pilot who crashed into the waters in NYC and saved those people had them up. (I had to look this up I admit). The pilot was lost, he was using Instruments and he was going over water, he was simply trying to land it on belly and not stall it. I agree with you though, flaps down would be best, though I see why the pilot would do this. He didn't take into account a forest or land mass at time. Also, he was out of fuel another reason he did it that way.

    • @jb99rapp
      @jb99rapp 7 років тому +2

      Stacie Meier I figured what he meant by the four lights was his angle of attack or glide slope indicator but you might be right about the throttle position.

    Eight cherubs = 800 feet above sea level (1 cherub = 100 feet, 1 Angel = 1000 feet), and the Loud Handle is slang for the ejection seat control (either a shade the aviator pulls down over their helmet, or a handle between their legs in case they can't reach the shade.) 'State' probably means fuel state, 100 pounds until empty.

    I actually checked this site called nuclearsecrecy.com, which hosts a "nukemap." It is capable of projecting the aspects of a nuclear explosion superimposed on Google maps. For example, the blast radius. A nuclear weapon with a yield of 200 kilotons (the minimum yield for most nuclear weapons in Fallout as stated in the Fallout 1 manual) detonating in Washington DC produces fallout that can in fact reach Point Lookout. Bear in mind that this is assuming the wind was blowing in the direction of Point Lookout, and the projection may or may not have errors.
    Here is a permalink to the projection. nuclearsecrecy.com/nukemap/?&kt=200&lat=38.8946925&lng=-77.0218993&airburst=0&hob_ft=0&fallout=1&fallout_angle=147&zm=9

      plus the jet stream over america generally heads east, that's why t-storms come from the west, originating in the rockies. so the further east one goes across the us, the more of a irradiated wasteland hellhole america becomes. Boston and washington, dc should be completely uninhabitable (by humans) theoretically...

    • @hckyplyr9285
      @hckyplyr9285 7 років тому

      Fallout generation depends greatly on the height of initiation (nuclear weapons are not "detonated," they are initiated. It's a very different process, though it does involve some chemical explosives).
      A 200 kt device initiated at 10,000 ft produces virtually no fallout, as the fireball does not come into contact with the ground, so there is no matter sucked into the fireball and irradiated. A small amount of residual irradiated matter does exist from the water vapor in the air, but this is trivial compared to a ground burst.
      Whether a nuclear device (they are called devices, or warheads, not "bombs") is initiated at high or low altitude depends entirely on what is being targeted. For maximum casualties in cities, the usual method was to initiate at an altitude nearly equal to the radius of the fireball - there are some very destructive effects that come into play (called the shock front) when nuclear weapons are initiated at roughly this altitude. Note, the vast majority of casualties are due to blast and thermal effects, not radiation, at least initially. Shock front winds from a 500 kt device initiated at ~2000 ft altitude can be greatly in excess of 1000 mph even at a mile from initiation point. That will ruin your whole day.
      Hardened targets like ICBM silos, railroad marshaling yards, even runways, require ground bursts and are thus considered very dirty (loads of fallout). Even device design has a huge impact on weapons "cleanliness" - the US mastered very clean nuclear devices in the mid-late 50s, ones that rely mostly on fusion to produce their explosive power, while Soviet designs, and even more so Chinese, were very dirty (relying more on fission).
      Thus my complaint about unrealistic effects in the Fallout universe - certainly a target like DC would have gotten a thorough seeing to, with multiple high-kiloton to low megaton devices raining down on it. Such a brutal attack would have left virtually nothing above ground standing for a radius of some miles. Fallout manual itself confirms the mass presence of high-yield devices, so any exchange involving very nearly the extinction of the human race would have seen virtually all city centers, especially key ones like Boston and DC, reduced to flattened, barren wastelands. The overpressures from thermonuclear devices are so much higher than those used at Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and the targets themselves would have received such an immense density of hits, that it assures that iconic images like a cracked capital dome or semi-shattered Washington Monument would not have been even remotely realistic.
      Unless of course the US was equipped with a capable ABM system, in which case only some "leakers" got through. But in that case, it would not have been a culture/society ending level attack.
      Thus my problems with the game. Sorry for the book.
      If you are interested in this topic, the "bible" is Glasstone and Dolan, Effects of Nuclear Weapons, 1977 ed. NukeMap and all these other sources derive their calculations from this standard reference.

    Shoddy Cast did a nice video about the glowing sea where they explain how the nuclear bombs in Fallout were smaller than even Little Boy, but how this actually caused more damage than a bigger bomb would. So it's not that the Fallout Bombs were more advanced, they're just smaller and more numerous.

    The skeleton with the pistol may have been someone sent to retrieve the black box and when he reached the crash site to retrieve the black box he was attacked by the locals and he managed to defend himself until they finally killed him

  • @Vice1-4
    @Vice1-4 4 роки тому +1

    My theory, the aircraft seems to be an F-80/P-80 shooting star. Anyways long story short, the aircraft may have been aiming for a aircraft carrier or a unknown airport in the surrounding point lookout area, the aircraft is low on fuel, the pilot is most probably flying IFR, ( flying where you can’t visually see where you are flying or how far from the ground you are, etc and are forced to fly using your instruments,instruments are many different types of gauges, things like your heading, altitude, turn rate, horizon, etc) the pilot begins to descend, preps to ditch the aircraft and as the pilot is doing so flys out of the fog and see’s the tree line, knowing it’s to dangerous to land in the trees, the pilot raises flaps and tries to gain as much altitude as possible the pulls the loud handle( ejection seat handle ) and ejects out of the aircraft. And lands in a tree. Locals find him and kill him, then reach the crash site. A military service member has reached the site first, the locals ambush him and he is able to fend of the attackers before running out of ammunition. The Remaining locals kill him, loot the crash site and wander off.

    I have Ben true pretty much every oxhorn video here on UA-cam and I really enjoy every one of them because it has a depth to the game that I never considered myself. Which makes me wonder the people who give a thumbs down are they really disappointed in something they heard or are they just being UA-cam trolls. I know you can't please everybody but I really don't understand their negative reaction I love these videos I love the series and I love the philosophical insight into storylines that I never considered. But as an amateur author I really find the story lines written by the developer, the take on their presentation and the in depth search into the stories that goes beyond just the superficial point A to point B mentality of most games that oxhorn seems to really understand a delve into

    what has me befuddled is the skeleton next to the black box recording...he's unusually equipped to be a local, would a 10mm pistol and that much ammo be commonplace in the middle of a swamp even in the Fallout universe?
    and didn't we also learn from an earlier installment of Ox's Point Lookout playthrough that there was a military facility where potential Chinese spies were detained?
    I figured perhaps he may have been from that facility...on patrol or en route to/from it when the jet crashed. He raced over to find the crash site, only to find the pilot died during his descent via parachute. So he did what any decently aware military personnel would do, begin searching for the black box to find out what happened...and that's when the locals found him...

    • @knighttemplar6529

    The bombs go off and everyone in a panic, the military is trying to keep order but just then a jet fighter races overhead and crashes. One brave service member goes to check out the crash and is ambushed by violent locals and is killed.

    • @oxhorn
      @oxhorn  7 років тому +8

      That's a fair point. I guess it bothered me much more to take it from this coffin because his parents placed in there with such purpose, to honor him. It was something he loved, something he, as a child, cherished. In the mine, the bear comforted the man as he died, or made him regret everything he was about to lose. By taking it from the man, I can give it to a child who will love it--this man didn't need the comfort or memories anymore. But to take it from the child in the coffin would be to disrespect the wishes of the parents who loved him and placed it there.

    I must disagree with the Jet Crash: (Granted I don't know how far away the crash was from the pilot so...) I speculate the Pilot ejected, the Plane crashed and attracted the attention of the Swamp Folk. The Pilot awoke while the Swamp Folk were looting the plane.
    He tried to stop them while hanging from the parachute with his machine gun, killed a few of them (this explains the corpses,the axes and shovels at the plane).
    The Swamp Folk then obviously killed him when he ran out of ammo.

    Its possible for fallout to spread across that distance in that universe, as the number of detonations and that nuclear-powered objects (or nuclear power plants, I saw some in the FO4 trailer) would explode or melt down due to the nuclear detonation itself or lack of personell to maintain it. And with the radiation in Point Lookout seeping from underground, most people died to radiation there.

      Liam Rogers Canada is no longer it's own country in the fallout universe it was annexed in 2076 so the state of Canada was destroyed by nukes as they probably shot a lot of ICBMS at Alaska as the military had taken over the area to stop the Chinese invadeing U.S soil And India probably wasn't attacked as bad it probably would look like New Vegas.

    • @TheLazer3
      @TheLazer3 7 років тому +3

      I think India would have been hit as well because they likely could still have been rivals with China in the Fallout world. If China was already competing with America for resources think of how badly India would have been competing with China and America as well. This Certainly would have put to two at odds with each other and likely would have led to some sort of conflict at some point, so China would have likely finished them off at the same time they attacked America. Also you have to account for how close India was to the Middle East which destroyed itself in a nuclear war before 2077 so it was likely dealing with high levels of fallout even before the war happened.

    [The Wonderful Adventures of Preston Garvey] SEASON 3
    Disclaimer: If you can’t handle my work, keep scrolling. Don’t waste your time hating. Also, please read Season one before this season. Season 2 has no relevance to this season, but some things might no make sense.
    Quick Recap: One of the Glowing Monsters killed some of the Children of Atom at the Crater in the Glowing Sea, Mother Isolde called for an evacuation and a radio signal for help.
    Episode Three: Gannon
    [The Castle]
    [Minutemen]
    (During the Legion Invasion on the Commonwealth, Charles Gannon was a second in command of the Legionaries. When he was taken captive, he was moved to the Castle to help the Minutemen. Ricky, an explosives tinkerer, was a slave for the Legion, but was taken captive by the Minutemen and used as well)
    Charles: Sometimes I am thankful I am no longer with...them.
    Ricky: Ha! Coming from you? That’s a surprise. (Twitches)
    Charles: What are you working on?
    Ricky: You don’t know your explosives, you wouldn’t (twitch) understand.
    Charles: Well then.
    General: (Enters the Armory) Mr. Gannon. I think it’s time we speak.
    Charles: Sure, General.
    (General’s Quarters)
    General: (Sits at his desk) Take a seat
    Charles: (Sits on the chair across the desk)
    General: You’ve served with us for two years now. Yeah, two years since the Legion was destroyed. Crazy, right?
    Charles: It feels like so long ago.
    General: Right you are. And you’ve shown nothing but loyalty, which is what some other soldiers have pointed out as well.
    Charles: Yes, sir.
    General: I want to put you back on the field, Gannon. But this time, with a proper military.
    Charles: Wait, seriously?
    General: Commander Gannon. Seems a bit rough but it works.
    Charles: Sir, you really trust me with this honor?
    General: Yes, Commander.
    Charles: Wow. Thank you so much sir.
    General: But if you try anything, you will not survive. Anyway, go see Captain Darren Miles, he’ll brief you on what to do with your new rank. He’s waiting in the radio station.
    Charles: Yes, sir.
    (Bunker Hill)
    (Minutemen)
    Preston: Good dealing with you.
    Gunner 2: Well that’s great. Bunker Hill has agreed to set up that caravan?
    Preston: Sanctuary to here. They’ve also gotten the Brotherhood in on some of this.
    Gunner 2: Wow, it’s crazy to see how far the Minutemen have come. Making the Commonwealth into a nice Republic.
    Preston: It still bothers me how quickly we lost other outposts, though.
    Gunner 2: What do you mean?
    Preston: When the Legion invaded, they took Diamond City, Bunker Hill, and some Ranger stations from us. What if it happens again? And we can’t hold off an enemy?
    Gunner 2: I wouldn’t worry about it. We have the Railroad and Brotherhood with us. Not to mention, I heard rumors of a Special Forces operation for the Minutemen. Only a rumor.
    Preston: So the most elite soldiers in one area?
    Gunner 2: Basically.
    Preston: Wow, that would be helpful if there were an invasion.
    Gunner 2: Yep.
    (End)
    Thanks for tuning in, hope you all enjoyed, leave some feedback too! See you all next time.
