Just some Fyi for anyone who get the yellow (not ready im light) If you erase the codes, the car's ecm resets all the monitors. You have to do a drive cycle so the ecm can test the monitors and check them off as ok. If you go through a inspection without the monitors okayed by the ecm, you will fail the emissions part. You can google how to do a drive cycle for your particular vehicle.

Thank you for sharing; great informational video for a beginner, like me, whom is researching OBD II scanner tools. I have received mixed signals because some people told me that GM stopped usage of third party scanner tools.
I don't know definitively if GM stopped 3rd party usage or not, but several third party auto repair shop mechanics told me that they cannot perform diagnostics because GM prohibits 3rd party. I know GM uses a device called "Multiple Diagnostics Interface (MDI)", which more information about the scanners that GM dealers use is found at www.oemtools.com/homeproducts/generalmotors.html The OEM website is either owned or part of the CAS of New England Inc., which I believe is affiliated with this website www.vehicleservicepros.com/A Cadillac dealership in Houston used the MDI on my truck. I am trying to fix my driver power seat problem.
Argh! The prairie dog hole goes deep and then he pops its' head up in another hole i.e., that is how I feel in my research about OBD 2 Scanners and troubleshooting both my driver's power seat problem and airbag light. I visited a local O'Reilly's Auto Store to inquire if they still offer the free OBD 2 DTC scan; yes they do provide a courtesy DTC Scanning service with the the Bosch OBD1300. Kyle (young, friendly and very knowledgeable) at O'Reilly's scanned my truck and no diagnostic trouble codes were identified during the scan. I inquired if the Bosch OBD1300 is operating according to its specs. I was partially satisfied because according to the scan results, my truck didn't report any DTC's. Only after I browsed the Bosch website with my tablet we determined that the scan is accurate according to the settings for a basic factory 2005 GMC Sierra 1500: I could not find the profile settings for the 6.0L, so I have more homework to complete before I resolve my problems.

you nave a stretched timing chain with that P0021 and always fix the first code first...its probably the cause of your other. they can be cleared till it jumps time.
+stilltlrforlife In this case it was an oil control valve that is responsible for the variable valve timing on the intake side. Same net effect. Timing was not what the computer thought it should be.

I see nothing in your video showing how to diagnose a misfire. Someone let me borrow a Cen-tech scanner, @98614. I have not plugged it in yet, but did read through the manual. I see no specifics on how to diagnose a firing problem, or how to check individual cylinders / coils for firing problems. Car is a 2004 Marquis, and recently has had all plugs replaced twice, one brand new coil, other coils have less than 11,000 miles. New Idle air control valve, new throttle position sensor, new fuel pump. Had the throttle body cleaned. Last two times after the mechanic worked on it, I drive about 60 miles and the engine light comes on, rough idle at stops after approx. 25 seconds, rough acceleration, occasional shuddering on acceleration.
Once you plug the cen-tech in you should be able to see/pull the diagnostic trouble codes. A P030X would be an example of a misfire code. The X would be replaced with the cylinder the misfire occurred in. P0304 would be a misfire on cylinder 4.
I just finished a scan with this Cen-tech scanner. It gives me a PO355 $10. I looked that up, and it says that is the #5 coil. That was the coil that was just replaced, so it has less than 500 miles on it. The previous coil (and the remaining coils) had about 11,000 miles. After using this scanner, I guess it's a good thing I didn't buy one, since it really doesn't tell me what's going on. With so many new parts on this car, there must be something else causing the problem. I may have to take the car to a Ford dealer, which i detest, after the last hosing I took from Lorenzo Ford. 650 dollars to replace a fuel pump on a 77 Cougar. Basically a two hour job. 150 of that was for the initial "find out what's wrong". 75 dollars for the fuel pump, and 425 labor. The dealer would not tell me what their hourly rate is. Ford customer service was as lethargic.
@@tompastian3447 Ugh... I don't know that car specifically unfortunately. It looks like it could be the primary or secondary circuit, so it is possible the coil is ok and it is the PCM circuit. Hopefully something here will help: repairpal.com/obd-ii-code-p0355 Or here: www.obd-codes.com/p0355
