I still can’t believe the prices luxury brands are charging in this economy though. I appreciated many luxury pieces, long before I could afford it, and I think with the current cost of living, I’ve got no problem appreciating them still from a distance.

@@lunar686 I absolutely agree! I will cherish the few luxury items I have for now. I have to imagine that the luxury bubble will have to “burst” one day… but they are catering to the 1% who won’t even blink at the prices. They could care less if middle class me is seen holding their bags 😂

@@celeste.430 luxury bubble will never burst. Some items, like bags or insinificant trinkets, maybe. But we have to realize that luxury does not cater to the middle class and that's OK and middle class should not compete who has more luxury items they can hardly afford on social media anyway, that's the direct way to poverty. Luxury was created for the rich. And you know what, the more we do to become rich, the more we realize how much MORE efforts, work, debt, stress, responsibility, ideas, and just painful grind there is to become successful and rich. And often rich people fail multiple times before they reach their wanted level so yea, luxury is the reward for our efforts. You want luxury? Fine, just do the work.

@@julijakeit for sure. These luxury brands could care less if middle class can afford their products. Sophie, I totally agree with you concerning everything in this video, especially the luggage. I own 1 piece of LV luggage, which is the Keepall. I specifically chose the Keepall to invest in because you carry it and it qualifies as a carry-on piece of luggage. I’m the one carrying it when I’m traveling. I’m the one that ticks it safely in the overhead bin when I board planes. And I make sure I handle it with care. It’s not being thrown onto the conveyor belt by airline employees and being dogged out whenever I travel with it. This is why I specifically chose this piece … Because I’m the only one carrying it and can ensure my item is treated with care. As far as rolling luggage and suitcases … No. And it’s or the reason you gave, Sophie. These are pieces that only I cannot carry. And the airline employees will just throw them all around, damaging them.

Not to mention, the people who handle luggage will probably treat it more aggressively (throw it on the floor and damage it); they aren't paid more to keep expensive luggage in pristine condition. If your luggage looks like everyone else's, they will throw it like anyone else's. If it sticks out, they will be more aggressive. This is just from what I've noticed.

I am so extremely disappointed in Hermes at the moment. I got their Oran sandals and yes, I loved them, they go with many outfits I wear, which I like and they are comfortable but they broke ( the stitching at the top) after one season 😭I thought I wouldn’t have any problems bringing them back so they could either repair it or replace it but I was wrong. They did absolutely nothing and I can’t believe it! First of all no other shoe broke so quickly and no other brand left me with nothing if there was something wrong. Things happen and many smaller brands are helpful ( I keep saying that Sezane for example, have wonderful customer service, but also many others). Those luxury brands don’t care most of the time! First you have to humiliate yourself by standing in the line to get inside, then you almost have to beg them to be able to buy it and then when you spend lots of money and something happens to it they do nothing! I do take care of my shoes. I clean them, put them to boxes after wearing, use dustbags etc etc. I understand that there might be scratches, stains but when the stitching brakes and they say it’s normal I get mad. I’ve sent many emails and they still didn’t do anything! They don’t care you might have to throw away your 500€ slides… To produce those shoes cost them like 20-30€ maybe I’ve heard…. Paying that kind of money you expect a bit extra service. Very very disappointing. I was planning to get another colour but in this case… So I promise myself to at least talk about it.
And about those logo t-shirts🤦🏻‍♀️I think they look so cheap and fake like they are from the market and people wearing them desperately want to show they own this kind of expensive brands. 700€ for a t-shirt?!!! I bet to produce them doesn’t cost more than 10€🙈

In fact, when I worked at a department store we sold the Gucci Sliders for men and they were very popular for people to purchase; however, they also were a very popular return item - because them smelled horrible! Whatever rubber substance Gucci was using on them made them smell to high Heaven. And people just couldn't stand that and returned them regularly. Such a waste.

I'm sure they got a rude awakening when they picked up their luggage at the baggage claim afterwards! I like going to TJMaxx to buy luggage, so what if it doesn't match, it's inexpensive and if it gets seriously damaged or looks really bad after a few flights (and sometimes that's all it takes is a few), you don't feel bad about having to replace it. Now I can't say for sure but I really wonder whether they would have been randomly picked if it hadn't been for the obvious designer monogram. Luggage is out of your sight for a significant amount of time - how much do you trust the airport employees? How will you feel if the luggage is permanently lost? Most of these things I have always thought were a waste of money. I did buy designer SLGs and Agenda covers but it was over 10 years ago when they they were affordable. I wouldn’t buy them now, especially when there’s so many really pretty ones around from less expensive brands like Longchamp, Aspinal and Kate Spade. I do like cosmetic cases but I have found some beautiful, well made, unbranded leather ones from department stores at a fraction of the price so why would I waste my money on luxury ones that I would be afraid to get dirty and knocked about? As for luxury luggage, they just have “steal me” written all over them.

I kinda agree on the card holders. Like I think it's not worth gaining a massive collection. I only have 3. But, I find a having a couple of them is okay. Too many and you're distracting from a bag/clothes. Also chanel ones now are pushing close to $1000 now, which is insane. I have a fendi one, that seems fairly durable.
I've bought a micro bag (Peekaboo). I love it as a going out bag, it's adorable. It can fit a card, my keys, bullet lipstick. However, I won't buy one that isn't basically carrying the equivalent of a card holder (e.g. micro fendi first). So there's a point where they're really expensive bag charms. So i'm holding off on the temptation until i score the bag i'm saving for this year. Also, the pricing of some of the more functional ones are really insane (e.g. Dior)

At best she's advocating concious shopping which I 100% agree with. But I agree with your logic becuase I use it on myself too. When I get to the point where i say, " I am tired of resisting and may just spend that money somewhere else equally useless", that's my sign to go for it.

That's a very sensible video. I have to say that I do agree with you. I have a collection of itimes that I have buy from charity shops that are designer or luxury or jewellery moatly for under 20£ or under 2£. That has made me understand how easily people get rid of all of those precious things. I will like to have the experience of a luxury boutique and all of that but surely I think that spend 700£ on a t-shirt is debetable.

Sophie, I would love to maybe see a "dupes" video. I did fancy the mini Kelly for some time but not for the money. A few weeks ago I stumbled across the Coach Mini Lane. Or the LV Coussin was influenced into my wishlist. But not love enough for the crazy money. Went with the Rebecca Minkoff Maxi Eadie Crossbody. Same style, great leather, big love.
Also the MCM version of the LV Cylinder bag you own pops into my head and Coach also has a dupe for the Boite Chapeau.
(Okok, my nickname for Coach and MCM is "last season LV" 😇🤣)
I spend so much time looking up for good dupes which are not only copycats but also have a good quality. So maybe more would appreciate a video like this.
    Cheers
    Sarah

You are SPOT on with many of these items. When I'm in stores, all the time I'm like why would I buy a shirt for the price of two cardholders? Especially when I'd use the cardholders soooo much more? And I don't have to wash them. And phone cases. I just buy one family good case for the life of the phone

You are so spot on! I will say I do love my small ysl card holder and Chanel one I use them both. I also have the Alexander shoes you mentioned I think now days less logo less show off is better. Keep one or two brand name items at a time like shoes and belt. It’s sometimes overwhelming to see everyone going broke trying to look rich. It’s not classy or chic. Buy quality items without it alway being a logo branded name.

Totally agree with this list. I cannot fathom paying a thousand dollars for a Chanel mini wallet. Also I the sort of person that believes it’s best to buy certain items from the experts like luggage from brands that give you a good warranty and watches from a watchmaker. Just think that if their focus is on that solely than there is more attention towards the quality.

I love my LV rolling suitcase. I would never use it if I had to check it in on a plane but I normally use it as my hand luggage so it doesn’t leave my side. It’s also great for weekends away. I was lucky to buy it over 10 years ago (before big price rises) so it’s definitely earning its keep!
The one thing I probably haven’t used as much as I thought was the nice bb as I end up just taking my beautifect case if I’m going away in the UK. However, I do like looking at it on my dressing table and pleased I got it before the price hikes ❤

I agree with the phone covers total waste.. But the agenda covers are totally worth it I have a small collection of covers I use them every day... Iv been a big agenda person for years.. Now that I have my lv agendas I have no need to be buying multiple Filofax covers they add up in price. Buying the Lv agenda stops me wasting money on other agendas... If you are a big planner person then the lv agendas is totally worth it..

  • @malillis608
    @malillis608 Рік тому

I use both Filofax covers and LV agenda covers but...I have been using them for 20, 30,40+ yrs! I agree about not purchasing the newer, meaning last 5 to 8 years or so LV agenda covers because they are not the same quality as the older, vintage LV agenda covers! My LV agenda covers I bought all new, all years ago and they have for the most part held up very, very well. Just an FYI, in the past, with the LV or Filofax personal size agendas, I have and have seen others use them as wallets/card holders. The Filofax inserts, card holder pages, etc., fit many other brands agendas, just check the number of rings and spacing in other agendas!
Filofax agendas have some really beautiful looks and colors and are very well made. Like I said I have been using Filofax probably 40+ years and LV agenda covers for 30+ years and still use them.
FYI...if you happen to be someone that uses the systems that have the multiple "rings", the type that take slit paper inserts, you can remove or have the rings removed from binder style agendas and slide your other style agenda into the suits to hold the pages in. I hope that last part made sense, but to be blunt I would not remove the rings on a new, pricier agenda cover unless you found one on consignment or a very good sale. There are UA-cam videos on how to make these changes if you wish to. Good Luck and enjoy the trip down the rabbit hole of altering agenda covers. :) :)
    Check out Filofax!
And one more thing, the LV calendar inserts are in my opinion, terrible. They have definitely gone down in quality. They do cute themes sometimes but the pages have now become so, so thin you can almost see through them! Forget writing on them. The Filofax pages are better and offer more calendar choices.
