Really good videos. My great grandfather and grandfather rode Harley I picked up a 78 lowrider. Runs great not original love riding. Thank you for your videos.
This bike brings back memories. Almost exactly what my dad's bike looked like when he rode it home when I was 5 years old.(I'm 30)The bike now belongs to me and I ride it every chance I get.
I just found pictures of my Dad's 77-79 fxs lowrider(can't tell from the pictures exactly what year it is). He drove his home when I was 6/7 years old. Unfortunately I do not know what happened to his. I'm in the process right now of saving up money and trying to buy one so I can ride it and be just like my Dad!
79 had both 1200cc and 1340cc production (80 cubic). The literature shows the 9 spoke. However, it also shows that the cow pie transmission was used from mid year 1978. yet I have had several with the earlier ratchet lid transmissions and several with the 13 spoke mags. What happens is as the company introduced stuff, if they ran out, they did not stop production and wait to restock, they simply put on what they had.
Exactly so Todd. I.e, The "AMF" is above the decal on mine, Harley script is different too. Just same color pin striping on the tank. Otherwise, rest of the paint is the same. But I guess that is actually only the fenders, lol ! Really enjoy your videos.
My old man had one of these. Ended up selling it to put a new kitchen in the house, and hasn't had a bike since. I'd love to find one that needed some work for the right price. Everyone wants a million dollars for their shovel that looks like it's been through WW3 and back.
VERY nice Todd. Love those first generation Lowriders. First one I ever saw with the 13-spoke rear wheel though. Is '79 the first year for the 80 ci engine?
Hey Todd I'm not sure if its a trade secret or not but what do you spray on the engine and trans area for your final detail? I've got all of Harley Davidson's cleaners&polishes just wondering if you found a cheaper alternative...
About to necro this video by asking, I have this bike after my dad passed, what do you think it’s worth? Supposedly I have the actual Harley driven on stage by Judas Priest and given away in CREEM magazine august 1981. My dad was a biker for 30 years in the chosen few sgv originals and traded his chopper for the bike from the guy who won it. Unfortunately CREEM couldn’t confirm the vin for me. At this point tho I’m just wondering if these old fxs bikes carry good value. I’m sentimental about it but my wife doesn’t want me to die with all these terrible drivers on the road.
Absolutely brand new totally stock low mile perfect running condition they top out around 12k, wholesale around 7k. Try and get hold of Judas Priest. Maybe they have records. Wouldn't add to the value much, but it would to the sale- ability
@@HuntingHarleys thank you for the info! Definitely not mint or all original at this point. I don’t think my dad cared much at the time about it being their bike either just like the bike vs what he already had built and probably felt like a good value proposition at the time. It has a great history and probably plenty of miles, I just want it to get a good home. 👍
is that rolling scrap pile for sale or trade, i have a top breed mule i can trade,or a bag of earley pepsi cola bottle caps, let me know, because iam looking at a milking goat for trade
Amazing how many unmolested shovels there are out there considering how low the production numbers were. Style-wise they can't be beat and it DOES have the best idle sound of all H-D's my 2014 sounds ill compared to that one
+Tony Edwards while Shovel production number's were paltry compared to today, compared to Pan'a and Knuckle's they made many tens of thousands more Shovels

How many good pictures! Todd is really hard-working real man!
I assembled a bunch of those at the dealership I worked at. Still want an original one like that.
My 78 FXE bought me here. Basically stock. I run an SandS carb. Toying with the idea of a resto. There are more AMFs out there than I thought.
One of three of the coolest bikes ever made...
Remember the Low Rider introduced in '77. Hard to start = no choke!
Awesome! Love your videos
I just love that air cleaner! Looks like a spaceship parked there
Thanks for the upload it is helping me alot with my 78 1/2 FXE

Running out of Gas seems to be a theme here Haha. Cool Lr she's as old as I am 1979, Awesome
Great Bike. Always one of my favs.
I've got an '81 xls with this exact same paint scheme. Great scheme.
not a problem, you can use on the entire bike. Rinse / wipe off with invisible glass rain to really make the paint shine

Man I wish I had that as a daily rider.

is nice look. 81 should have a similar but different decal though, stock.
How many paint schemes were available on the early 1979 fxs lowrider?
Were there other paint schemes available for that Year's model besides this one?
As far as I am aware, originally black, then black and silver. 78 had silver, white and red, but the white and red were unpopular
Nice old bike!
That is a beaut!!

You really should quit talking in your videos after you start the bike....can't hear a word you're saying..
79 was an odd year for harley wouldn't buy it not worth much
Please find cheap original paints 🎨 and sell them to me
First thing I'd do is throw away those pipes, they sound like shit!! just saying.
if all you have to do is change the seat, bars and pipes on a Harley to make it yours, your way ahead of the game. Everyone changes those
