Really enjoyed Dylan's piece on the Deftones record. I loved the band for years before I realised how fucking awesome the drumming was, everything blends together so much in their songs it's easy to not pick up on it. Abe's groove and inventiveness is legendary and it's pretty nice to see the smile it puts on Dylan's face when he plays it!
I hope to see Sylosis on the top 5, 'Cycle Of Suffering' is a really solid and powerful album

@@eddyray666 It's the 1st place I look for an album to give it a listen and maybe add it to my Wishlist. It is convenient and has a quick checkout. And being able to download FLAC lossless files is AWESOME. And the community purchase feed is cool. Once you start following like minded members you can see what they recently purchased in a news feed style list. I've found some cool albums that way.
I've been saying Ulcerate are criminally underrated for years. I LOVE their latest as it's more of the same with production value that is LEAGUES ahead of the previous albums.

Same here. It was the first full album I'd heard by them, only heard a handful of songs before it was released, and the album is so damn incredible.

Makes me very happy to see Bell Witch getting this level of recognition. It's one thing to get a shoutout by a single critic whose job is to be aware of every little thing that comes out, but to get popular recognition on par with acts such as Deftones? That's amazing!

@@bw_selfish That's a great way to find them. I found them through their 2nd newest album (the name is slipping past me at the moment), which is also very great. They're one of the most interesting doom bands in my opinion

Black Crown Initiate, Sylosis and Oceans Of Slumber are my favorites from 2020
I only just discovered black crown initiate this year. They're great!
I'd also throw in Necrophobic - Dawn of the Damned as my favourite, and I enjoyed Accept's new single Too mean to die.

Lots of great albums this year! My personal favorite is my dying bride- ghost of Orion
Love the Soulseek shirt. Glad I'm not the only one that still uses it, and found a lot of great music from it
glad Stygian Bough made the list, that was on my best of as well. also loved Ohms and 666 Goats. didn't get to listen to Stare Into Death enough but I liked what I heard.
It helps to better understand what The Ocean are doing on these records if you know something about the geological eras and periods. Each song is evoking a feeling and/or reflection of what's going on in Earth's history, and if you consume the music in that context, it makes all kinds of sense!

Ulcerate is definitely incredible. I tried listening to it a while ago in the wrong mindset (I assumed it was a typical prog/tech death record, which I often listen to pretty casually), and I ended up turning it off cause I wasn't feeling it. After Riley talked about it in the BangerTV Top Albums of 2020 video, I gave it another chance, and oh boy am I glad I did. I think her description was basically perfect, it's just a very crushing, vibey album. It's disorienting and beautiful if that makes sense. Glad it made it to the top 10!
Ok let's see what Part 2 brings along.
If I didn't mention Dark Tranquillity's Moment, then I'm not fit to be a part of a metal community. Easily their strongest album in years (maybe over a decade) once again combining what they've learned over the last few records into elements of their classic style! Honorable mention goes to LoveBites, who are just starting to break through a new Japanese scene!
Hope to see Anaal Nathrakh Endarkenment on the next five, one of my favorites from this year

Butcher released a hell of an album! It made my top 25 of this year. Shoutout to Wombripper from Russia with their album "macabre melodies" it's a death metal gem, all what a death metal maniac needs to listen to!
The Ruins Of Beverast / Almyrkvi split to me was one of the best pieces of art to come out of 2020. The almost Futuristic
sound of Almyrkvi juxtaposed by primal/tribal
sounds of The Ruins Of Beverast was a thing of beauty.

@@lowsyawe I absolutely love the new Protest. IMO it's on par with their two best albums Kezia and Fortress, It's a lot more mature and focused and Rudy's vocals are even better. Ever since it was released I've been jamming it on a regular basis. In fact it's the album I've listened to the most this year. From The Sky, All Hands, Little Snakes, Soliloquy and Reverie are some of their best songs ever.

Deftones albums are always fun to play on drums. Ohms is a good album, definetly better than the last Gore, but it still sits under those two masterpieces called Koi No Yokan and Diamond Eyes. And I had the same feeling Dylan talked about, they played it too safe on some songs, which could have been elaborated more. Urantia stands out for the intro-outro imo.
Deftones has the potential to go full transcendental, but they seem to play it safe by giving "more of the same". I haven't truly been impressed since around the fur, but afa "new" deftones, Saturday night wrist and koi no yokan have shined the brightest in my opinion . Hopefully they have acquired enough money to "let go" next time and be more avant garde. Just my wishes. ✌

I 100% agree with this statement. Ulcerate would have been 1 for me if not for Gaerea. The vocals on Limbo are absolutely incredible. For those who like a little black/doom/death next year should be dominated by Harakiri for the Sky's new album. they're a budding metal force getting ready to burst into the mainstream ( of metal)
Best 5 metal albums of this year are: Havukruunu - Uinuos Syömein Sota, Anaal Nathrakh-Endarkenment, Enslaved-Utgard, Paradise Lost-Obsidian, Code Orange-Underneath
Black crown initiate cemented their sound with their Violent portraits of doomed escape. It has everything from the previous albums well meshed and with a good studio production. With this album, this band is definitely getting to start to gain popularity. I hope that everyone gives them a listen, it's a 5/5 for me
I loved their previous releases but this one is in an whole other level. For me AOTY!

I have huge respect for the Ulcerate album and I think every track is really good. For me personally though, I find listening to it works best for 3 or 4 tracks at a time. I struggle to listen to the full album in one sitting and that's why it misses out on a top 10 spot in my list. From this 10 through to 6 list, Butcher is my clear favourite but I'm hoping more of mine make the top 5.

Ulcerate i thought was higher on the list. I hope we see Deeds of Flesh. Erik has to be proud of how tastefully brutal this last album is. Also....... Depravity Australia....... album just out right jams. Hitting on 3 elements that a good metal HAS to have. Brutality, ferocity, and out right contagious riffs.

I personally thought Atramentus' Stygian album should be on this list instead of the Bell Witch/ Aerial Ruin collaboration. Definitely the best funeral doom release of the year and one of my top 3 of 2020 for sure. P.S. the Cytotoxin album is top 5 material for sure.
