I'm gonna throw a mention at Tomb Mold here. Planetary Clairvoyance was amazing.
I was just listening to this last night and realizing that it had tons of hype but kind of fell out of the conversation a bit. Maybe it's to close (release-wise) and blends too well with Manor of Infinite Forms? I actually think it's superior to Manor. Glad I'm not the only one still thinking about Tomb Mold!
If u like Tomb Mold u should check out Vacivus' new release Annihilism Very similar but also have each band and album have their own unique sound and delivery. Anyways highly recommend it!
@@metalbearlife2010 I heard this and it's done by the same rhythm section of Necrot
@@codyryan2316 Oh nice, I didn't know that! That's why it's so familiar sounding. Huh, the more u know :) I'm wondering when Necrot is gonna release a new album, but Blood Offerings is one of the best death metal/hardcore releases this decade for sure. Got to see em live with Blood Incantation, Morbid Angel, and Cannibal Corpse. Sick show :)
@@metalbearlife2010 next year. I'm excited because everytime a sophomore record gets released lately,it turns to magic.
1) White Ward - Love Exchange Failure
2) Blood Incantation - Hidden History of the Human Race
3) Borknagar - True North
4) Tomb Mold - Planetary Clairvoyance
5) Esoteric - A Pyrrhic Existence
6) Atlantean Kodex - The Course of Empire
7) Wilderun - Veil of Imagination
8) Possessed - Revelations of Oblivion
9) Swallow the Sun - When a Shadow Is Forced into the Light
10) Mizmur - Cairn
Love Exchange Failure is pure gold.
we should be friends
Love Exchange Failure is one of my favorites from 2019
My man. I know when I spot good taste. Going to give the one's I haven't heard a listen. Thank you.
Memoriam requiem for mankind was the best death metal album of 2019. Better than tomb mold and especially blood incantation
Soen - Lotus. All good tracks, no filler. Very often I start listening to one song and end up listening to the whole album
Yes. Even played it ss an intro to my wedding!
Soen’s was beast
Isn't that how you're supposed to listen to music anyway ?
1.Mgla-Age of Excuse
2.Cattle Decapitation-Death Atlas
3.Insomnium -eart Like a Grave
Great choices!
Mgla was a let down for me. Probably because the previous albums were so great that my expectations where so high for it...
Put MGLA and Insomnium releases aside is a crime
@@henriquenesti9069 Both Mgla and Insomnium's were boooooooooringthis year. Bands are on autopilot.
@@laporte1625 man I loved those albums. Music is subjective
AOTY --> Blood Incantation - Hidden History of the Human Race
Honestly. They're such trad death dickriders and it didn't even get a nod.
I just came to the comments to say this very thing. SHOCKED nobody there picked that. Probably the most impressive DM album I heard all decade outside of Ulcerate's Shrine of Paralysis, Gorguts's Colored Sands, and Morbus Chron's Sweven.
Frank Rivers fuck yes that ep was so good I loved it
Cult of Luna - A Dawn to Fear, this needs a mention here. I love this album (and band)
I agree.
Yeah i love that one !
I wish more people were talking about it !.
Swallow the Sun- When a Shadow is Forced Into the Light
This is my favorite album of the year too. This album is fantastic
Mine as well.
You guys get it.
I agree!
Not my fav, but definitely in my favs of the year. Def my top 10, maybe my top 5 fav metal aoty! ✌️♾
Cattle Decapitation - Death Atlas.
Epic Album!
경지민 Of course!
Album of the year
Their annual review this year is some largely obscure b.s. from metal hipsters. I am not impressed. At least you guys probably feel really hip and cool while losing credibility in my eyes.
Cattle Decapitation and Dream Theatre put out excellent albums in 2019.
Todd Applegate people have their own opinions.I enjoyed the latest Dream Theater but no where near my albums of the year.
I like Sarah's taste and her digging the underground so much
Yeah, Pyramid of Terror was pretty freakin' sweet
I like your profile picture! Cult of fire is a great black metal band and that album is their best from that band. Also did you know they are releasing another album next year?
Yeah, her taste lines up with mine the most in this list. Also, I know she wouldn't call her own album the best of the year or anything, but Smoulder was fucking badass and its in my top 20.
Best deathcore album imo is Shadow Of Intent's Meloncholy
I really liked the instrumental version they released too.
Personally disappointed by that one compared to Primordial and Reclaimer. Really hope they bring back the halo theme.
Yeah that ones second for me after Brand of Sacrifice both albums slap
@@Idontknowone1able Melancholy is still a concept album, just not a halo one
@@unr3quited I know, and I respect Ben's decision for that. It was just the Halo theme that really made them stand out for me. That and the musicianship was amazing. I was disappointed to the lack of stand out choruses since they decided to utilize Chris voice even more on this one, and also by the lackluster orchestration. There were only a couple songs on Melancholy that really grabbed my attention in both of those aspects and everything else was just kind of meh. I had to listen to the album probably 15 times before I started to remember which songs I actually thought were worthwhile. However the production is fucking fantastic, probably one of the best mixed albums I have ever heard so that's a huge plus in my book. Still got respect for the boys.
2019 was the year that I discovered Car Bomb.😁
They’re fantastic
2019 was the year that I was reminded about Car Bomb, lol. Have only their first CD (just picked up Meta used today), but need to get the new one soon.
Absolutely amazing band personally my favourite
My new favourite band. They are another level of musicality
DeAnjelo Frizell Same! Mind blowing stuff, dude! ✌️
None, damp chill of life, what a revealing of a metal slammer, totally hooked, thx guys for showing the best album of the year
FromBajor Heard this album a few months ago. Instantly hooked. Was perfect for the mood I was in at the time and it got me through a pretty depressive episode I was experiencing.
Insomnium - Heart like a Grave
Alcest - Spiritual Instinct
Mgla - Age of Excuse
Imo Alcest were the Rivers of Nihil of this year. What a great album!
Dude, I cannot believe I missed the new Alcest album. Listening now.
finally someone mentioned Insomnium...Heart like a grave was one of the bests this year but every reviewer didn’t put this album even in honorable mention list 🙄
Mgla is really best band!!!
NILE - Vile Nilotic Rites
i was worried about how a album without dallas would turn out bit its fucking amazing, the best they've done in years!!
miffmaff Dallas left? I haven’t heard anything from them since those whom the gods detest.
@@isaiasrico589 He left Nile in 2017 to focus on his other band Narcotic Wasteland.
Awesome opinions and great records as always! I have SO MUCH to listen to over this holiday season!
Evergrey- "The Atlantic". I dunno if yous covered this album during 2019 but this is a seriously good album from a seriously under-rated band. Brilliant melodic, dark, melancholic, powerful, emotive rock from Sweden. Full of deep, heavy grooves, soaring solos, memorable melodies and beautifully powered along by a huge lavish production. If this album- or this band passed ya by, I recommend you check them out as soon as you can!
There are two really standout records in 2019:
1. Denial of God - The Hallow Mass
2. Atlantean Kodex - The Course of Empire
Also very good:
3. Blood Incantation - Hidden History of the Human Race
1. Villagers of Ioannina City - Age of Aquarius
2. Jinjer - Macro
3. Monkey3 - Sphere
Thank you for this video. I discovered some cool tracks. I appreciate the diverse approach!
This was super interesting!! Love watching these videos every year, i wish i could work there haha, i love my gothic symphonic, folk and power metal.
My own top 3:
1: Cult of Luna- A Dawn to Fear
2: Rotting Christ- The Heretics
3: Blood Incantation- Hidden History of the Human Race.
That being said, there's some quality bands mentioned both in the video and the comments.
Josh Crowe i agree 😊
Xoth - Interdimensional Invocations
Disappointed nobody mentioned this
Cheers
Seattle
Hell yes best death trash album in years
Great videos all year dudes! Keep up the good work
Thank you for making this show! I got some new listens to do.
2019 is the year I dug deep into Led Zep, Black Sabbath, Kyuss, Monster Magnet and Sleep
Sounds like an excellent year for you!!!
About time eh?
1. Wilderun - Veil of Imagination
2. In Mourning - Garden of Storms
3. Devin Townsend - Empath
In mourning rules \m/
Great taste my friend
Thanks guys, you gave me a lot of new music to listen to. Can't wait to check them out
Sarah, thanks for the Lunar Shadow shoutout. my second favourite behind Devil Master this year.
HHOHR by Blood Incantation.
Other albums I enjoyed on 2019:
Heart of lead-Kaleikr
La Croix de Sang-Drastrus
Sacramental death quaila-Haunter
Sulphur English-Inter Arma
Divided by darkness-Spirit Adrift
Yes, the new Blood Incantation is my favorite d.m. album since Gorguts' _Pleiades' Dust_ (2016). I was surprised no one mentioned it in the video.
Drastus are always killer, perhaps not as much growth as previous releases.
For me it is absolutely: Mizmor - Cairn
It's a great album!
Same here, wish it was getting more buzz
Thank fuck someone else gives that album some appreciation
Wait, Mizmor released a new album this year? I need to check that out.
Joe Yuzwa oh it’s good
Thankyou Sam! Out of all the best of 2019's lists ive read, no one has mentioned Vltimas! Great album, great debut album and I agree about it being Vincent's best ever performance. Can't wait to hear the next album which looks like it could be hear in 2020 🤘
EPIC! Many interesting selections 🤘🏼
1.Cattle Decapitation
2. Blood Incantation
3. Nile
4. Disentomb
5. Darkthrone
6. Cerebral Rot
7. Mortiferum
8. Gatecreeper
9. Tomb Mold
10. Mgla
I do agree 2019 has been difficult for me to settle on a favorite. I got into Knocked Loose this year so their new album was the last thing I checked and, I dug the hell out of it.
Yes, Knocked Loose are such a good up and coming hardcore band! Right up there with Code Orange. Also Vitriol had such a good release with To Bathe From the Throat of Cowardice. Super good technical death metal with groove.
MetalBearLife highly recommend Earthshatter as well, debut album due out in jan I think.
Already mentioned a lot, but still I want to say that all of you do a fantastic job cause you're passionate and diverse. Metal is a huge universe and you guys acknowledge that.
HATH - Of rot and ruin. Not sure if its my favorite release, but certainly awesome.
Just wanted to say that you guys put out such great content and I've discovered so much excellent metal through your reviews. Keep up the good work \m/
Oh aoty: Cult of Luna - A Dawn to fear
Possessed- Revelations of Oblivion was definitely my favorite metal album of the year. That album is gonna go down as a majore classic shredder album in the years to come
I agree. It crushes most of the poser shit listed here
Love this channel! Cheers folks
Love the hair cut Blayne. Love supporting you guys and excited for 2020. Feel the best is yet to come. Always a fan and a friend of banger. Northmetal.ttv.
Made a playlist including almost all of the albums in this video on Spotify called Banger best of 2019
Link?
Yes, need that link
@Beat Richli throw that link up
Scott Siegel link?
Link please
Gatecreeper - Deserted was insane this year for me.
I discovered Mirror - Piramid of Terror after watching Sarah's video about the Cassette Cult and ending up loving Midnight Dice. As soon as I saw Mirror's album lying on the table, I realised what was up. I genuinely love that record. Thank you Sarah
Pretty cool to see Blayne pick the album by None as album of the year. I got it as part of my Metalhead Box package and I loved it as well.
Cult of Luna : A Dawn to Fear.
Jean-François G. Love it!! 😊😊😊. Amazing!.
Obsequiae- “Palms of Sorrowed Kings”
This album just came in and swept away any other band that was vying for top spot
Jonathan Newman dude, you are so freakin right. It’s easily my favorite record of the year.
The Great Old Ones:
Cosmicism
Has been on repeat a LOT
For me
Jesus Christ Denton really? It’s my favorite of theirs sofar 🤷♂️
To each, their own
Jesus Christ Denton our of genuine curiosity, which album would you rate as their best?
I’m spending my morning re-listening to all of them just for fun.
I'm glad someone finally mentioned The Great Old Ones. Love the new one. Also in my top picks for 2019 is Krypts "Cadaver Circulation." Just can't stop listening to those 2 albums.
"Mana" - Idle Hands
This is amazing.
Jackie is that slappppp
I'm just happy that metal has such diverse sounds, because my tastes are definitely not what most Banger contributors have. My top 3 were:
1. Tool - Fear Innoculum
2. Soen - Lotus
3. Opeth - In Cauda Venenum (Swedish Version)
You're still welcome here even though Banger is death/black heavy. Soen was my fav this year as well and that Opeth, what a masterpiece.
For me Idle Hand's Mana record was outstanding
Also Atlantean Kodex rocked it.
Sarah, you nailed it^^
Darkthrone - Old Star 🤘🏻
Cattle Decapitation - Death Atlas 🤘🏻
hey Blayne, there's this band, Deathspell Omega, you should check 'em out - you'll probably love them!
Vltimas is my pick as well. Killer album.
1. We Are not Your kind
2. Shaped By Fire
3. EarthAndSky
4. The Sea of the Tragic beast
5. Death Atlas
6. All Hail
7. Anthems
8. Daemon
9. Disarray
10. Rise of the reaper
My top 10 albums of 2019
THE BATTLE OF YALDABAOTH?!!!
Slipknot, LMAO
@@DualHelix5 They are awesome live :)
@@DualHelix5 Damn, people still shitting on others for liking Slipknot? Thought you guys grew out of that a decade ago.
@@Renathoth I thought people grew out of Slipknot a decade ago lol
Vltimas was my pick too, good shout. Absolutely killer record!
Decided to quickly listen to NONE and come back, and I've been in a trance for an hour now. Love it! Slowly figuring out that I can basically just add Blayne's picks to my playlist and know I'll love it
I'm happy Slough Feg got some love, They've been an amazing band for a long time.
Insomnium - Heart Like A Grave
God bless Canada. I love this channel. I don’t agree with all of your guys picks, but the diversity always provides something for me to check out.
1) Rings of Saturn-Gidim
2) Insomnium-Heart Like a Grave
3) Eschaton-Death Obsession
4) 1349-The Infernal Pathway
5) Possessed-Revelations of Oblivion
CAR BOMB - MORDIAL
So disappointed this isn't getting more love.
Space Chief PEWPEWPEWPEWPEW
Yassss
My copy turned up a couple of hours ago so will be digging into it over the holiday. I've heard good things and I can't wait!
So surprised too see NONE make it on there. Been loving this album year too
My discogs wantlist is getting rather lengthy thanks to you guys!
I have to mention Oozing Wound - High Anxiety 'cause those dudes crush everybody and never get enough love.
Lingua Ignota - Caligula was way up there for me too.
Other than that, I'm not usually a big Death Metal guy but this year Blood Incantation, Tomb Mold (how did none of you canucks shout them out?), Cerebral Rot, Gatecreeper, Fetid, Witch Vomit, Superstition, Exhumed, and Cattle Decapitation all killed it this year. If you read that list you might notice a lot of 20 Buck Spin on there. They were on fire this year.
i'd say Cult of Luna - A Dawn to Fear
Yeah, they're not mentioned enough here.
Awesome channel, dudes!
Hailz to Blayne....you nail it with the selection of None-Damp chill of life as your favorite of this year. None music always touch my heart in a very special way. 🤘🏻💀
My favourite was Imperium Dekadenz - When We Are Forgotten. Absolutely love that album, best Atmospheric Black Metal album of the year for me
1- Exhorder- Mourn the Southern Skies
2- Bewitcher - Under the Witching Cross
3- Sanhedrin - The Poisoner
4- Jinjer - Macro
5- Death Angel - Humanicide
6. The Well - Death and Consolation
7 Overkill- Wings of War
8. Monolord- No Comfort
9. King Gizzard and the Wizard Lizard- Infest the Rats Nest
10. Warthog - live
Damp Chill of Life is AMAZING! So happy to see someone else pick that one, lol.
I have a feeling my album of the year will be one of the releases I'm still chasing down; Obsequaie, Officium Triste, Car Bomb, Moon Tooth, Possessed, Acid Reign, etc. Ever since my local metal cd shop closed, I've been struggling to track down these locally, need to place some orders online this weekend. I did like Daniel's picks (Tanith and Vulture).
My top 3 metal of 2019
Devourment - Obscene Majesty
Disentomb - The Decaying Light
Full of Hell - Weeping Choir
Holly sheet !, almost forget how good Obscene Majesty was
Artist- After The Burial
Album - Evergreen
Banger Song - Quicksand
Easy picks for me:
1) Hecate Enthroned - Embrace of the Godless Aeon. The best symphonic black metal album ever created. Yes, really. Give it a listen \m/
2) Urn - Iron Will of Power. I love black / thrash crossover and this is by far the best I've heard since Arts of Destruction by Desaster.
3) Schammasch - Hearts of No Light. Experimental black metal from Switzerland's finest.
4) Rotting Christ - The Heretics. Just amazing as always with RC.
Happy christmas to all at Banger. Loved your work in 2019, looking forwards to more great stuff in 2020!
several of the albums mentioned by Sarah, i know and very much enjoy b/c of metal monthly. keep doing those next year! Also, None is fantastic!
My pick of the year is undoubtedly Warforged's "I:Voice" with runner's up Apanthropy's "Monument of Solitude" and Smoulder's (yo, Sarah!) "Times Of Obscene Evil and Wild Daring."
1 Rotting Christ - The Heretics
2 Cattle Decapitation - Death Atlas
3 Mayhem - Daemon
Rotting Christ is just so damn consistent
Death Atlas is my absolute number 1 this year
@@Cosmic_Cretin no the exact opposite take a listen on the albums. Its pure quality
Metal has so many release across so many subgenres it's super easy to miss great records, so lists like this (with contributors of varying tastes) are a great way to fill in the gaps - so cheers, guys! Some of my faves this year:
The Antichrist Imperium: Vol. II Every Tongue Shall Praise Satan - Ripping blackened death, with a mournful, slightly gothy edge and serious amounts of shred.
Curse of Denial - Coming for Your Soul - Old school, prog death metal that'll take you to the Edge of Sanity.
Obsidian Tide: Pillars of Creation - The best Opeth album of 2019
Idle Hands: Mana
Bewitcher: Under the Witching Cross
Gatecreeper - Deserted
Inter Arma - Sulphur English
Soen - Lotus
Cattle Decapitation: Death Atlas
Bonus record I had zero expectations for but which ending up blowing me away - Abigail Williams: Walk Beyond the Dark
Super stoked to see Blayne picked that None record, I discovered the band this year because I was in a time of my life where DSBM really connected with me, and this album is fantastic. Definitely taking a spot in my top ten and definitely takes the crown for best DSBM album of the year.
The Keys of Orthanc record was gnarly too, really good Black Metal, as was DeKay’s Bewitcher shout out.
I miss the music clips...
Me too but it'd take too long otherwiss
blame youtube for that
Album of the year for me is Wilderun - Veil of Imagination. Runner up would be True North - Borknagar. Two absolutely fantastic albums.
I think 2019 was absolutely stellar. A few personal favorites: Obsequiae - The Palms of Sorrowed Kings, Altarage - The Approaching Roar, Eternal Storm - Come The Tide, Rimfrost - Expedition: Darkness, Swallow The Sun - When A Shadow Is Forced Into The Light, Vukari - Aevum, Tomb Mold - Planetary Clairvoyance, Blood Incantation - Hidden History Of The Human Race, Cattle Decapitation - Death Atlas.......and a whole bunch more.
Damp Chill of Life is a fabulous album. Great pick. Vorna also had an amazing release this year
Aephanemer - Prokopton
Darkthrone - Old Star
Cattle Decapitation - Death Atlas
my top 3 albums of 2019 Cattle Decapitation Death Atlas Possessed Revelations of Oblivion and Cloak The Burning Dawn
Yeha Death Atlas is an easy pick for me as nr.1
I love cattle decap but I feel death atlas is overrated. A good album but not great. I actually enjoy the blood incantation record more. Fuck I even enjoyed the new as I lay dying record more than I want to admit.
@Isaac Greedy check out new Cloak record too its fucking great i also like King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard record
Thanks guys, fun video as always and there’s a few record I need to check out. I wouldn’t say there was no stand out though, it was fairly easy for me to pick favorites.
To wit, my favorite record of 2019 was Soen - Lotus. Wonderfully crafted Prog, equal part heavy/groovy and delicate/emotionally powerful. And it blows that boring Tool record out of the water.
Two runners up:
Belzebubs - Pantheon of the Nightside Gods
Aephanemer - Prokopton
In a year where Black Metal was mostly stuck up its own “atmospheric” ass where bands forgot how to write proper songs and riffs, producing boring and pretentious records that are all texture without substance, and where Death Metal either became ever more br00tal or more technical but forgot to be catchy and focused, those two bands remind us how to write tight, fun and melodic records that are accessible and instantly lovable but still heavy and complex.
Good call on 'Damp Chill of Life'. I had the digital but circled-back for the digipak after another listen. Hypnotic Dirge may end up owing you guys an Xmas card.
My top three in no particular order are:
Soen - Lotus
Infant Annihilator - The Battle of Yaldabaoth
Devin Townsend - Empath
There were way more albums I listened to and liked this year, but these were probably the best three IMO.
Soens album is fucking amazing!
I'm glad I'm not the only one who loved that Soen album!
Sarah's taste was the closest to mine, but I was sad to see no mention of Wilderun nor Disillusion by anyone. Those are both favorites of mine that have had rather long hiatuses, and they were fantastic releases. I really did dig the massive showing of traditional heavy metal and epic and trad doom this year. This trend could continue for a few more years and I would be ecstatic. This year was phenomenal, and I hope metal continues to see this resurgence in quality and quantity of worthwhile releases. What better time to get back into music discovery than these passed two years.
The Disillusion record caught be by surprise. I didn't even know it existed until 2 months after it was out. And I've been a fan of both of the prior records for years. Its a masterpiece, and I'm listening to it almost every day.
Long waits regardless, they're unique and masterful. It may very well be my favorite of the year. And thats saying something. Its been a great year for metal.
Cheers Sam and the rest of the banger crew btw noice hair cut Blaine
NWOTHM blew me away this year. Lots of exciting music that made me feel like a teenager again, discovering cool areas of metal.
For me:
1. Possessed - Revelations of Oblivion
2. Darkthrone - Old Star
3. Sabaton - The Great War
no Borknagar love? they put out the best album of their career
@BANGERTV huge fan of the videos! Are there any plans for a "albums of the decade" list?
Sarah rules! Great video! Lots of good stuff!
TOOL - Fear Inoculum
Periphery - Hail Stan
Devin Townsend - Empath
Opeth - In Cauda Venenum
I cant believe Cattle Decapitation wasn’t even mentioned
Was fit for an autopsy? Cant be bothered watching the whole thing
Michael Patterson Neither was Berserker by Amon Amarth. I love both of those albums.
Avatarium was definitely my discovery of the year. Never knew they existed and they have 4 albums to sink my teeth into, all equally amazing. Loved the Opeth, Queensryche, Alcest, Saor, Death Angel, Soen, Lunar Shadow, Schammasch
For those who like their metal unusual, entrancing, aggressive , proggy and awesome: Creature - Contes Funèbres. My personal favorite this year, along with alot of others already mentioned (Cattle Decapitation, Vltimas, Blood Incantation, Oreida, etc.)
Riot City- Burn the night was another one of my favorite metal albums of 2019 a good classic heavy metal sound with fantastic vocals.
WARRIORS OF TIME!!
One of my favourites as well such an awesome album
Hell yeah!!!!
