Almost spat out my morning coffee! You have to put in laughter warnings. "What can I say, I'm a weak man" and theres a tree shaped to a generic F1 track! 😂😂😂
And to clarify the tree looks good I'm certanly not laughing at that, but once again you said it has nice movement at the base you just need to add a little wire at the top, nothing much...😂
Amazing work for a one armed man Tony, the trees are very leggy so what ever you do or did has to be an improvement. Nice to see you having fun mate. Keep positive.
Some great fun with wire. It is so effective the heating of deadwood to create an instant bend. I was watching Dan Barton's interview last week after he demonstrated it on his pines. It is amazing to think he was the first to discover that techniques way back in the 70's. No tin foil though...or gloves for his fingers when he heats the wood up :()
I’m really pleased with myself, you chopped that 1st tree exactly where I would have. See I’m learning something from you Tony🤣 I’ve now had to add a literati style to my list of things to have a go at. Well done Tony, amazing video as always, have you thought about writing a book? I think you should.
Cookin trees again are ya Tony? You always do some wild things that I'm inspired by yet maybe a little too timid to try. But nothing ventured nothing gained, thank you for sharing!
Those twists and bends are indeed pretty impressive. Occasionally, you see a tree in nature, for whatever reason, takes on this growth habit - can't tell it its being playful or trying to escape something lol! So much healthy bud back going on with both trees - will give lots of options in a couple of years. What kind of spruce grow in your area?
I have a dwarf alberta spruce, twin trunk but an absolute pain to style,it was leggy so in spring i cut most the branches back and luckily its back budding well so may be hope for it yet
Great work as usual tony! 2 boring trees into something interesting! Yes you are so right about the spruce springing back. Removed wires of one of my spruces 1 month ago . And now its almost back to it former shape 😅
Perhaps you could grow the branches to look like the dragon's wings! It will be lovely when the bends have set and the wires gone. Keep on having fun with your trees. 😊
🤣 Yep just a small amount of movement added to the top 😂 The F1 comment is brilliant... Tony you have such a fantastic way of bringing a smile to faces with your video's. Love what you did to both tree's especially the new Bunjin F1 track and your blowtorch jin bend on first tree that highlights the movement in canopy really well.👍
I also like the over the top movement (in some styles).. my favourite trees are more fantasy than trying to look like a (typically) "natural" look. When I see real trees that have such looks it is quite a sight. Your choices and ways of thinking are probably the most inspiring I have seen as they match my taste.. even if I didnt know it beforehand lol thanks for keeping on keeping on!
Yes we must have similar taste, and I always think that if I go a bit too far, the crazy movement can always be adjusted in the future with branch selection when pruning
You'll have to come round and we'll film a video together buddy. I've got a Scots pine and a hawthorn for you to go nuts on! I'll email you and we'll try to sort out a day with decent weather I've also got really nice yamadori silver birch I'd like you to take.
Great video Tony. Do like a literati and contorted tree. I’m always on the look out for a tree similar to the one in the film sleepy hollow so I can make a bonsai version of that. If u know the film it’s a gnarly twisted brut of a old tree. Cheers Tony great video as always
Nice one Tony ! Well done with those spruce trees. It's always a lot harder to put that movement in later when they are even thicker ! So I think you made some good decisions
Lovely trees Tony. The bark on that first tree is gorgeous. I am going to try to do my first unsupervised gin tomorrow. I've only done them in a class with Dave from Dave's Bonsai. I hope it's not too bad.
Hi Mary. Dave is such a great guy. I imagine his workshops are brilliant. Obviously his bonsai work isn't quite up to my level but nobody is perfect 🤣 seriously though, it's great to hear that you're thinking of having a go on your own. I know that Dave will like hearing that as much as I do because he just loves inspiring people to have a go and to get stuck in

Great post Tony. Thanks for the update.
I'm usually not someone who loves extreme bends in my trees but I really like what you did with the second tree.
Hi tony, the next wire up from that is rebar

Very innovative work on these. As they mature that unnatural look will become quite natural and beautiful. Thanks, keep growing

Hot and steamy Tony twist. Your dad must be knocked keeping up with you Tony 😂😂
Nice video mate 👍👍
He's always had plenty of energy mate. He loves keeping busy

That apex that you bent looks amazing, l even like the scorch mark... bravo Tony
Thanks Nerina. Yeah I was really happy with it how it broke up the straight line to add interest. I'll be doing a fair bit more of that I think
🤣🤣 I just had to pin your comment Jani. Absolutely brilliant !
I just love that description. My brother will laugh because he's a massive F1 fan

A pleasure to watch as always, Tony. ❤️ I would have loved you following up on that one. Always be remembered mate.

couldn't help yourself but to put all those bends in huh? they look great. i like the "chinese dragon" curves in that second one.
Every time I see you make a crazy literati tree I feel inspired but I just don't have any material that is long enough. Looks great

Cheers mate. You're not wrong there. Definitely better getting that movement in when they're young. 6mm wire isn't generally all that much fun to use
