Cheers s Corin. The pot has provided me with loads of inspiration and I've enjoyed a couple of brilliant days with my dad out in the garden putting this together, so thanks for that mate much appreciated!
@@TonysBonsai I've got some planks of wood that I've been trying to dry out so I can sand and paint them for making a bonsai bench. Nowhere to store them inside so I just need a few sunny days so I can dry them and get to work.... I've been waiting weeks....
yay steroids ! can i say that here? oh well. glad you are doing as well as you are. in a way this has been a sort of rebranding for your channel so that really was the last. beautiful pot and love the ending "this isn't goodbye, break in play, rain delay" 🤣
I'm still going Taco. Just a bit of an update really on what's going on for me and how I'm still managing to get content out as people have been wondering, and as you say, the answer is with the use of some incredibly strong drugs 🤣
Tony and Daddy - you did awsome good work on that. The pot is beautiful and I can imagine the little trees will grow very well in this landscape. I can’t wait to see the update. Enjoy your day ❤️ Cheers 🙋♀️ Martina
Thanks Martina. The blue colour in that glaze is just beautiful next to the tones of the rock and hopefully the green Will add a nice amount of contrast
It's great to see your still doing the vids, I always look forward to seeing them, was a little disappointed with you not getting your dad any gloves 😅. All the best shaun 👍
Corin and Paul are legends, what an amazing gesture from a nursery. It’s so good to see you keep producing content mate, also big shout out to dad, he looks to be loving it loads
Cheers buddy. I'm loving how much my family have embraced bonsai. They've all learnt loads about pruning etc but none more than my dad. He's really soaked the information up and he's ready to take many of my trees forward now that's for sure
What a great pot! Corin is the man. Your dad may be your apprentice but he has become a master muck applier! This will look fantastic by next fall, I’m sure. Cheers Tony.
Nice one Tony, and good on Corin for sending you that lovely pot. You’ll need to be careful with your dad, he’ll be taking your title - Bonsai Master! 😂
Looking very cool there Tony, like an idiot I watched the 2nd vid first so I can see how the bone structure of the creation is worked using your muck technique, letting your dad get all the muck on the rock along with rooted trees is very magnanimous of you mate, he is clearly having fun along with your running commentary is very entertaining. take care both of you working together. Btw that large rock planting your dad showed us is coming along very well, a few more years will see it turn into a classic composition.
That looks already great Tony. With the added cuttings in part 2 it will look even better and then with time it will grow into a beautiful piece of art.
Oh - the Nothofagus planting is off to a roaring start!! Those tiny leaves are truly amazing. Cool rock that you chose - should look fantastic when the roots have populated the crevices. What sort of medium do you use for your cuttings? I'd love to try hard wood cuttings from a nearby tree and was wondering about winter protection.
Lovely to see the generosity of people in the bonsai community and you made great use of the pot Tony and Dad. I have been listening to Tony Higginson's spotify play list and I'm impressed mate, everything from Blondie, Cream, Fleetwood mac, supertramp and tears for fears to metallica, sex pistols and underworld- born slippy. My favs are The Klaxons - golden skans and Squeeze- its cool for cats. 98hrs 56min of listening that i will enjoy and cherish. Thanks Tony
Cheers Scott. It sounds like your musical tastes are as eclectic as mine mate. I enjoy most types of music except 90s soft rock I just can't take that whining
Hello Tony how are you doing, i like the way you have been doing the bonsai and i would like to thank you for all that you have done for bonsai thanks again, Mendis from sri lanka 🇱🇰 😀
What a lovely gesture from Corin. What you have done is to make excellent use of a lovely pot. I can't wait to see the completed planting. This will be a stunning bonsai given time. I would never dream of doing this at this time of year but I bow down to the Bonsai Master's knowledge Tony. A brilliant and inspiring video mate. Looking forward to seeing part 2.
You have definitely perfected that muck to a great consistency and I look forward to having a go at that myself. I appreciate your view on the 'other way' of doing root-on-rock but I have found that my Tridents and Chinese Elm grip the rock within a few years. The elms actually gripped within 1 year. I love the joy of revealing a bit more of the roots each year. I use fissures as well and agree that trying to twist loads of roots unnaturally around a rock is a bit forced. I think another short video reminding us all of the quantities to make that muck, as it is now, would be perfect - I would use it. Keep on enjoying life Tony - cheers :)
Alright Xav. Yeah root over rock has so many different options for success and failure. I'm really looking forward 😀 to checking out an eastern hemlock that I wrapped in sphagnum moss on the rock.I suspect it's going to be a failure long term in term of adherence , but it's definitely going to be interesting taking a peek I'll add a link later to the muck recipe, but it's basically just Equal Parta damp coco coir, wellchopped moss and clay. Easy peasy and really nice to work with. It makes this kind of project really easy to put together on your own, and for anyone like us who are lucky enough to have Access to lots of young material it's a great way to use it instead of just making clump-style and little groups
Yeah it will be really interesting for people to follow all the various root over rock techniques over the coming years. Ultimately the proof will be visible in 4-6 years time when the fine exposed root structures are finally on display. Until then it's really just a waiting game. I'd love to see Ryan' Niels junipers and peter warrens beech tree, but they pretty much never seem to do updates. My gut feeling is that the reason they use muck in Japan is because it's the most effective method, in my mind it just makes sense using a technique that allows us to individually place roots into position as opposed to trying to just get a bunch of roots to stick to the side of a rock. Even if they eventually do, I wonder if the look will be more like the looping alien roots that are so common? It's a fascinating subject to me and I'm always surprised at how few great root over rock compositions we see. Good ones are really rare from what I see.
What a great use for Corins pot! Another technique I've not attempted yet, but hubby is intending to do it with the common juniper he won in your raffle. He has finally found a rock he likes but is waiting until spring to give it its best chance. Keep growing.xx
You picked out some of my favourites there Scott. Sounds like we've both got similar pretty diverse musical tates based on good solid writing Regarding the yew. They can be pretty temperamental. How's it done this year? And what is the foliage looking like at the moment?

Alright Chris, he's called John. If we get a nice day I'll try to get my brother to lift the rock up onto the turntable for a better view as it does need a trim anyway and it looks fantastic from the proper side view

I just use my normal Bonsai soil mix, but I like to use a deepish pot to avoid overly wet soil rotting the cuttings.
