Jonathan apparently cannot resist playing the villain
I mean, he has the voice for it.
Its fun to be the villain, just ask Jeremy Irons.
Villains are so much more fun to play and have much better songs than heroes
All heroes ever care about are friendship. The story of the villain is much better.
Im a villain im having fun being non stop evil
Imagine being an average Egyptian who has absolutely no idea about what is going on with the royal family and the drama between Pharaoh and Moses and then all of a sudden you get hammered with half a dozen natural disasters in a row.
Especially people living barely above subsistence farming and no access to pesticides being struck by "The locusts on the wind, such as the world has never seen."
I always thought that that was the weakest plague as a child, since I only knew about grasshoppers and thought that they were harmless. Knowing what I know now about how food insecure the ancient world was, that plague is probably one of the most horrifying and damaging ones.
Especially when you think about how when the animals didn't have any food, they got sick and died. It was a natural response to the locusts eating the crops, and if the blood of the dead animals flooded the nile I could see why the frogs decided to get the hell out of there.
These plaques compounded like interest in a bank for 70 years.
There are some videos that show how a locust invasion would affect a large city nowadays. It is just as devastating. We could fend them off and even prevent the swarm's attack if we knew beforehand, but if the cloud got to the city, it would be nightmarish.
If you think about it, the Plagues were a domino effect with nature. The rivers turning to blood caused the frogs to swarm the land. When they died, it attracted flies. Without the frogs, the insect population increased and started biting animals and humans, causing them to get sick.
all that and being hit by them hurt.
One locust really isn’t a big deal, but in swarms they’re near impossible to deal with even today. There was a reason why the locusts were one of the last plagues, only before the darkness and death of the firstborns. Each plague was supposed to be worse than the last.
All fans of Prince of Egypt: ”There is absolutely no way to make this song more epic...just no way.”

Playing With the Big Boys and The Other Side are both fantastic as well.

The way Jonathan played Ramses makes his voice sound full of hatred and anger with Caleb making Moses sound pained and remorseful. Perfect depictions of the characters so well done!!

This comment sums up my feelings towards their entire cover of this album lol
I found this comment like a month ago and I still laugh at it.
You kinda dug your own grave there - The Plagues was an incredibly intense song that was almost begging for a power metal cover lol
"I send a pestilence and plague
Into your house, into your bed
Into your drink, into your bread

Blame God. Pharaoh WAS willing to let them go. God's the one who kept hardening Pharaoh's heart so that he could show off... no matter who got hurt. The genocide of the firstborn? Entirely God's fault!
You don't have to take my word for it. Just read the story.
BlackEpyon
Are you sure about that. Are you sure God didn't have a good purpose in hardening his heart?
BlackEpyon
Plus Pharaoh still had a choice and he made that choice on his own.
+Thor's Hammer
Actually, He didn't. God made that choice FOR him by hardening his heart. Perhaps you should read the story again. Pay close attention. Most of the suffering was BECAUSE God had hardened Pharaoh's heart when there was no conceivable reason to prolong it. Pharaoh WAS wiling to let them go. God's the one who wanted to be a dick and stick around.
You aren't doing your faith any flavors by defending God when he acts like a tyrant.
+BlackEpyon are you saying what the pharaoh did prior is okay ?
I think in this cover Caleb sounds better, he had more of a "badass vibe" that gives a different interpretation of Moses, both angry with his brother that refuses to free his people and both questioning in an angry way why God chose him because this choice led him to all this suffering. It resembles more the Caleb seen in Bells of Notre Dame as the priest. These roles for me are the best roles for Caleb: the "angry good boy". Otherwise, I love Jonathan Young playing the part of the "bad". With love from Italy.
"angry good boy" has to be my favorite description of caleb with his scary face on
Jon makes a great villain, and he clearly loves it. This is probably Caleb's best performance, imo. They really play off each other so well.
I'm a Christian and I love metal and songs like these

Same!
One of my favorite covers from you two, please always keep making music together
I loved the original one you guys did, but I think this is my favorite version because of the power the metal combined with the power of the orchestration adds so much more weight especially with Ramses' parts. Fantastic work, Jon!
Brandon Fox oh hey! Love your covers man.
Kitty-Kirishima Art Thank you!
As a Christian, not only do I find this song awesome, but I also honestly find it scary too. Like, God could easily bat an eye and put us through this. It's simultaneously amazing and terrifying, and I sure as heck want him on my side when Judgement Day comes.
Yeah I think the song is great and its actually rather interesting as God was mocking all of their gods/things they worshipped. They worship the Nile river? Its turned to blood. They had a frog god? Frogs everywhere. They worship the sun god Ra? Everything is pitch black. God had hardened the Pharoah's heart so he could prove that their "gods" were nothing. The only issues I really had with the movie is that they changed things, for example Moses knew he was jewish and Ramseys (or however you spell his name) would have been his 'cousin', and they did not get along. Moses also would have been like 80 or smt when the Exodus happened.
@@August_loves_rats If they would've gave the movie 5 more seconds at the end you'd see Moses throw the commandments, also probably the golden calf somewhere in-between.
You mean the thing thats never coming because he's your imaginary friend?

Yeah. How many times did Pharaoh say that he would let them go, only for GOD to harden his heart? Seriously, look it up. The entire charade was God's fault, including the genocide of the firstborn.
The Egyptians have nothing on God's genocidal tactics.
BlackEpyon hate god all you want but what he did justifyed seen that the Egyptians were killing Jewish children and enslaved people for 400 years.
We're all chidren of Jesus
Prince of Egypt scared the crap out of me as a kid. This made those feelings resurface. Absolutely amazing cover guys
There is so much more power and emotion in this compared to the original. How Moses' voice is lighter and sounds as if it's filled with pain and sorrow, and how Ramses' voice is deep and harsh, filled with hate.
I kid you not, the original is probably my all-time most replayed song. I have a habit of zoning into a story in my head and replaying certain types of songs, and this one always got me to a dark, epic spot. It's fun to have a good cover it of it. All the Prince of Egypt ones you guys have done. It's an underrated soundtrack.
The Prince of Egypt does not get enough airings on television. It should be on every year, just like the Cecil B. Demill epic.
I think Jonathan should do a cover of "Animal I have become" by Three Days Grace! That would be awesome! Give this comment a thumbs up so Jonathan will see it! Rock ON!!!

They recently did that cover and posted it onto Caleb's channel I think?
And trail we blaze thats a good song too
Is this what they call "new and improved"? Heck yeah! This sounds better than the other one. The metal is just on point.
Personally i think it's trying to be too much, the "metal" just feels tacked on and a bit excessive.
Who knows, maybe it'll grow on me.
It feels like the bass and guitars got turned up compared to the other one. Could just be me though
Isak Viklund Took the words right out of my mouth.
I was about to comment exactly that. Absolutely 100% better. Jonathan's voice was so out of place in the old version. It fits right in here. Sits just right in the mix.
LuchaOr I don’t disagree, but while the guitars and Jon’s fit together now, they don’t fit with the rest of the song

Tristan West yes!

Both of those. We need both of those!
“This was my home.” I believe the emotion he put into the line.
The fact that the plagues weren’t just about freeing the Israelites or judging Pharaoh but God bringing judgement upon the gods of Egypt themselves by mocking their power, destroying every aspect of them and and showing who is the one who really runs the show is by far my favorite part of exodus, and yes the pagan gods were seen as being real just not the creator God or the true God just spiritual rebels like the satan who want to be worshipped like God
Spot on! Every plaque actually is a counter attack by the Lord to a particular Egyptian God. 👍
The Judeo-Christian God of the Old Testament was not as wonderful as many would like to believe.
Maybe harsher due to the world and time era but but still wonderful, I’m guessing you’re going to refer to stuff like the driving out of the canaanites or some of the other examples that people take out of context to try to say Yahweh is bad but if you actually read and understand context than most of those harsh events make more sense
Actually, I was implying that the whole thing with the Exodus is suspect -I have heard it said that the Judeo-Christian God actively hardened Phaoroh's heart, as a way to show his power. Don't know about you, but that sounds dickish. Also, I recommend not taking the Bible as gospel (ironic, I know.)
I actually have never heard anyone draw a correlation between the plagues being a reprimand to not just mortals, but to other deities; I think that's a very clever observation! I myself am not a Christian, but I do find religion interesting and love hearing other's views on the subject! ^-^
Holy moly. This sounds better with every listen.
Heard the original, then I saw this and was blown away, well done as always Jonathon

I still hold out hope for this. It has a uniquely heavy feel that surprised me. It's just another great song that was swept under the rug because their associated film is kinda meh or didn't make too many waves. I thought it was decent but undoubtedly it was quickly overlooked by the public.
Their first cover of this was my first introduction into both Jon and Caleb, and before Jin started singing, I was all like "ok, this guy's gonna have some pipes" and BOY WAS I RIGHT

"Where's the Fun in That" from Batman: The Brave and the Bold
Any of the Five Night's at Freddy's songs (Break My Mind, Unbreakable, It's Time to Die, etc.)
Yo guys I just noticed something and while I don't know if it was intentional or not but I gotta point it out. So at 2:28, the way they're heads are positioned are kinda opposite, Jonathan seems to be looking down while his head is slightly lowered and Caleb seems to be looking up, his head raised. At 2:35 when they're finishing, Jonathan raises his head while Caleb lowers his.
More christian cover music please stay blessed 🙌
This is so powerful with everything happening rn
Man, I'm almost a year late. But "This was my home" gets me every time
I always felt the voice of Ramses in the movie was off, mostly the singing. He sounded like an old man and not scary or intimidating at all.
Jonathan is the Ramses we *DESERVED*
I don't think Ramses was really meant to be scary or intimidating. Yeah, he's an antagonist, but not exactly an evil villain. Just... human.
@@SaiyanGamer95 I agree, they were brothers with diferents opinions about life and the world. You can see that both of them don't want to fight the other, but they have to because of their ideology
@@mateus18PB Not only that, but while they shared the same past - They were best friends on top of being brothers (to quote Moses himself "Once, I thought the chance to make you laugh was all I ever wanted") - their destinies forced them down different paths. That and Ramses's father instilled an ideal in him, further pushing him down the path he would later tread.
No doubt if things had gone a little differently, they would have remained as friends and brothers.
Well Moses singer and voice actor were different cuz he sings a lot, and since Ramses only sings in this small part, Ralph Fiennes sings it who is clearly not a pro singer and has much weaker emotional expression while singing compared to the pro singer in the same song.
Great Cover... Btw... When will it be on Google Play?

Fenix same vocals different backing
I was kinda hoping for a vocal rework. As much as I loved the old version [on Caleb's channel], I think Jonathan goes too growly with his lines. Also, "You who I called brother; Why must you call down another blow?" is supposed to be Rameses' line and not Moses'- because Rameses is asking Moses why he continues to ravage Egypt with more plagues, believing it's Moses causing all the destruction and not god.
@GoDoFcRaP42 I thought that too, but after watching the clip from the movie, that actually is Moses' line. He's asking why Ramses is risking another blow be called down instead of just letting the Hebrews go.
