Bro literally Jonathan can do no wrong on these song covers. The way he can maintain his voice and keep it balanced and kept up with the tempo is amazing
My fav part is when he sings "the phantom of the opera is there, inside your mind" because it just really shows the metal part of it, you know. I really got shiver then, because it was definitely not what I expected. I've actually watched the play on a theater and I think this cover is just as good if not greater!
There needs to be a Phantom of the Opera movie with Malinda, Caleb, and Jonathan as the main characters. Obviously all the music would be metal versions. This needs to happen!!!!
Nope; You're hearing it right. They got it wrong in the video, sadly...Both said 'MY spirit and MY voice'; where it's supposed to be as you said; one says 'My-Your' the other says 'Your-My' They also missed an entire verse; "In all your fantasies, You always knew.." "That Man and Mystery.." "Were both in you." "And in this labyrinth, Where night is blind." "The phantom of the opera is there.. Inside my/your mind". It's a shame, Because I actually liked this version quite a bit, but all the inconsistencies and the missing bits really turn me off of it :(

2:03 the harmonies in this part are SO good. I think this is my favourite section. For the week, that is, because I am obsessed with this this is so good
Your singing voice is perfect for the role of the phantom. It's hard to describe just why, but your voice has this sort of power and authority to it that just seems to fit the role.
William Harmon Although this is pretty cool, his voice is horrible for the phantom. The Phantom is a very kind-voiced Tenor. This guy has a very harsh baritone range. On that higher note, he went full falsetto. Not saying I don't like this, I do, but he does not have a good voice for the Phantom at all
You say that, but Gerard Butler's voice had an unrefined edge to it that fit the phantom as someone who lived under the theater and never had proper training as a singer. Jonathan has that edge with enough refinement to be clean as well..
I am very impressed with this from a person who has loved opera and other music for years this was perfectly done when it comes to opera rock. me and my friend debra are singing this song in our community college final on stage but not rock just like the actual opera but if we could I would love to do this too. you guys rock. loved it
Beautiful, I showed this to my mom and she said ‘if it was set in modern time The Phantom would probably have a metal band he just had that vibe’ I’m laughing so hard
There was something about this performance that makes it easily more enjoyable than others like Nightwish's version. The instrumentation and Malinda's voice definitely comes to mind. Malinda's voice extremely clean and she clearly has been trained, you can't belt like that at the end without some kind of vocal training. The voices also resonate extremely well. Something about Nightwish's version doesn't pack that same punch to me for some reason. Not to disrespect their music and their abilities as musicians. Taste also does play a part in this as well. So that might also be a factor.
I guess most of what I'm trying to say is that this one wins over Nightwish's version because Nightwish did a sloppy poor man's version of the song. If they slowed it down and actually went to the same tempo as well as gave it trained voices like the singers who originally sang it per example, then maybe I could see them being better but this one triumphed because it was technically and rhythmically accurate, and it had a lot more of a chilling feel than Nightwish's because what they had created was just a tryhard power metal version and making it simply something that it wasn't.
I agree that this version is more accurate and elaborate than Nighwish's version, but something in Tarja and Marco singing gives much power to the song, in my opinion, the strength of the Nightwish's version is mostly their ability to play it on live, where is never fails to give me goosebumps.
This is most likely down to taste, but IMO nightwish did it better. But thats mostly because I absolutly adore marcos voice. So sinistee without overdoing. And Tarjas voice is powerful enough, that they dont drown eachothers out. But opinions are opinions, this version is really good too! (Differences might be just stylechoises, but thats kinda of a mootpoint)
My theory is that the Opera Ghost really is a phantom of Christine's mind. She was schizophrenic, and he was the voice in her head telling her what to do, possibly including killing her rivals. Somehow that story makes more sense to me than having an actual man in a mask who lives behind a mirror (a MIRROR!) and has an underground boat. Plus it explains why Raoul didn't want to kill the Phantom when he met him. If he saw it was Christine actually acting as a madwoman, behaving as the Opera Ghost, he might have pity for her because he had loved her.
I'd also like to point out the several lines about the phantom of the opera inside her mind. If what you suggest is true, that would be rather interesting, wouldn't it?
@@knotgradaunknown7414 i was just saying it was a tad late to get Jonathon the spot to play Phantom on broadway because Phantom has been pulled off of broadway

The same thing happened to me when I heard his version of Hellfire. My theory? Jonathan is a witch. That's the only explanation. He is hypnotising us with his music. XD
in dreams he came
He speaks my name....
I can imagine a chandelier falling at the end
I see where you are going 😂
Yeah and he’ll be the one causing the disaster.
I see where you're going, but it made me flinch.
Falling chandelier like at movie 'what a girl wants' pretty cool actually 😂😂
Look! She is doing a badass guitar reef to bring down the chandelier!
Chitsukee I've seen tours and it on Broadway, agreed.
There needs to be a Phantom of the Opera movie with Malinda, Caleb, and Jonathan as the main characters. Obviously all the music would be metal versions. This needs to happen!!!!
Princess Raven Diamond who would be who?
Malinda will be this girl, Caleb her friend and Jonathan (no doubt about that) the phantom.
I'd love this and I haven't even seen the original lol
HTM Malinda would be Christine, Caleb would be rhaoul and Jonathan obviously phantom
Yes! IT SO DOES
Wouldn't mind seeing a Sweeney Todd cover from you.
Duuude. Yes!
yeeessss
Please?!
YESSSS THAT WOULD BE AWESOME
Oh my gosh yesssss!!
2:19 Maybe I'm mishearing it, but isn't it supposed to be:
Phantom: MY spirit and YOUR voice
Christine: YOUR spirit and MY voice
Both: in one combined
Nope; You're hearing it right. They got it wrong in the video, sadly...Both said 'MY spirit and MY voice'; where it's supposed to be as you said; one says 'My-Your' the other says 'Your-My'
They also missed an entire verse;
"In all your fantasies, You always knew.."
"That Man and Mystery.."
"Were both in you."
"And in this labyrinth, Where night is blind."
"The phantom of the opera is there.. Inside my/your mind".
It's a shame, Because I actually liked this version quite a bit, but all the inconsistencies and the missing bits really turn me off of it :(
@@KazanaAoi This is a readaption, that's why they cut out an entire piece
And about the my/yours, I think get got confused and then decided to keep it that way
The "BEWARE THE PHANTOM of THE OPERA!" part gets me so much because no one EVER puts that much emphasis on that beautiful piece. Wonderful job. Wonderful piece and wonderful voices.
Wow. Malinda. Just wow. Give her a parody song and she'll make you LYFAO. Give her a real song and she'll blow you away, and make you wish you'd still be able to laugh or cry at all - with your jaw all the way to floor, no way that's gonna happen.
Are you trying to tell me that I can like this only ONCE?!
IKR?
Lol they need to have a third button called love
Agreed.
make another account! second like!
Lol me too. I would have liked this video more times than I could count.
In sleep he sang to me
In dreams he came
That voice which calls to me

And do I dream again?
For now I find
The Phantom of the Opera is there
Inside my mind
Sing once again with me
Our strange duet
My power over you

And though you turn from me
To glance behind
The Phantom of the Opera is there

Dun dun dun dun
I genuinely think this is one of the best arrangements of this piece. Metal just fits the villainous stuff so well! You and Malinda should definitely colab again. Absolutely insane!
2:20 sounds SO GOOD. It's so layered and perfect
What a beautiful voice Malinda has. Holy shit no wonder the phantom was so obsessed lol
As a girl who can agree that Malinda is freaking beautiful
That's gay
We gay bro
@@naomiyokoi9248 We all gay here
She is doing the verb called freaking to someone called beautiful? I don't agree.
Leon Singer
She sure is! :) I’m a female too.
Not saying I don't like this, I do, but he does not have a good voice for the Phantom at all
William Harmon it would be amazing if they redid the play (in movie) and these two were casted as the Phantom and Christine
Shelby Bingham Well for the actual show it wouldn't "fit" per se, but for day a metal version like this it could work.
You say that, but Gerard Butler's voice had an unrefined edge to it that fit the phantom as someone who lived under the theater and never had proper training as a singer. Jonathan has that edge with enough refinement to be clean as well..
I agree I know how you mean
Baby Jesus in heaven, this gave me shivers. Her voice was angelic, his was powerful and deadly. Killer job, you guys smoked this.
I am very impressed with this from a person who has loved opera and other music for years this was perfectly done when it comes to opera rock. me and my friend debra are singing this song in our community college final on stage but not rock just like the actual opera but if we could I would love to do this too. you guys rock. loved it
well this is Opera Metal actually
Beautiful, I showed this to my mom and she said ‘if it was set in modern time The Phantom would probably have a metal band he just had that vibe’ I’m laughing so hard
I would think more emo. He's basically an emo kid mad that he got friendzoned
@@drewigi
Yeah, very true. Lol!
'gasp!' Oh pleeeeease someone do it!
Malinda is just amazing in general tbh
Agree on all accounts! Perfect duet and cover.
More like the Phantom of the Metal.
Look! It's a Janwards! Phantom of the DARKNESS! BITCH... yeah!
B R O K E N phantom of the mosh pit 😂
Hell yes. The Phantom of Metal. Her voice is just insane as well. She could be the singer for a symphonic metal band.
B R O K E N that's so gay
Maddison Ezell Yeah it is!
no wonder why this song is lit, because this vid's length is 4:20

I love this version. It contrasts the sweetness of her voice to the darkness of the music so well!
his voice and her voice = Perfect ❤❤❤❤❤
His Spirit and Her voice*
My theory is that the Opera Ghost really is a phantom of Christine's mind. She was schizophrenic, and he was the voice in her head telling her what to do, possibly including killing her rivals.
Somehow that story makes more sense to me than having an actual man in a mask who lives behind a mirror (a MIRROR!) and has an underground boat.
Plus it explains why Raoul didn't want to kill the Phantom when he met him. If he saw it was Christine actually acting as a madwoman, behaving as the Opera Ghost, he might have pity for her because he had loved her.
Marialla Hmm very interesting nice points here
Marialla yooooooo that makes so much sense
That makes soo much more sense too me
I like it, but it doesn't explain her refined trained voice. Unless she was a vocal savant (not sure if that's a thing)
I'd also like to point out the several lines about the phantom of the opera inside her mind. If what you suggest is true, that would be rather interesting, wouldn't it?
2:56 Malinda's voice is so beautifully haunting!
If broadway doesn’t hire Jonathan to play the Phantom then they are missing a golden opportunity. Give this man the job!!!
I hear ya.
Oooh.... about that....
A bit late for that
@@mrdankmeme8962 I'm a tad late, what did I miss?

You must do the Plagues from The Prince of Egypt.
That would be SOOO cool
Giving this comment more attention so he'll see.
JY please see this
You are a genius sir.
I agree!!!!!
Ever see Prince of Egypt? I think you'd cover "All I Ever Wanted" or "Heaven's Eyes" amazingly"
I'd like to see him do The Plagues personally.
Yeeeeesss!
That's my favorite song from that movie!
LET MY PEOPLE GO omg do that please that would be absolutely fantastic
The Plagues just begs for a metal cover, Deliver Us would be really involved but really epic
Just do the whole soundtrack
Did anyone else get goosebumps at 2:36? Lol.
I love the phantom of the opera and you two definitely did it justice in an awesome way.
EDIT!!!!!!!
Would totally buy the album if you did the entire soundtrack in a metal style. Easily one of my favorite broadway soundtracks.
The goosebumps kicked in when Jonathon sang "beware the phantom of the opera" That or the harmony earlier on when he sang

I get them at 1:12 when she drops into a lower pitch for the "inside my mind" idk why

I literally can't listen to the original version now. Thanks.
I still like musical version Christine better.
I am dreading the fact that my friend and I are going to see PotO and I am already disappointing that the vocals and music will not be at this level. :(

This was such a beautiful adaptation. The vocals were absolutely phenomenal, the range of vocals was perfect and matched wonderfully with the darker and deeper take on the instrumental. Wonderful work.
This has NO RIGHT being this good yet is makes so much sense that it is, I first listened to it some years ago and everytime I hear it again it just gets better

I wore it once it was so tight that it made a mark on my face
how could anyone go to the opera and be satisfied with anything other than a metal version ever again??
well I never go to the opera period.
This song is not from opera. It's from Broadway musical.
Just try to listen Nightwish version.
"The mask is really uncomfortable in case you were wondering" - Jonathan young
I think that he should do a cover for "Shiver Me Timbers" from the Muppet Treasure Island movie.
That would be incredible!

Yes, he should! He should do "Shiver Me Timbers" and "Professional Pirate"
