Alright everybody....this is the big one.
First things first, the biggest of shoutouts to my partner in crime, Jonathan Young, for pretty much everything. And my man, Travis Carte, for the incredible job he always does with these collabs.
So, this is easily the most requested song I've had in at least two years. Even before Jon and I ever did our first Prince of Egypt cover this was the one on everyone's mind. It was a daunting task and one request that we did not take lightly.
A little insight into the development of this cover; After "Playing with the Big Boys" released on Jon's channel, I knew that I wanted to eventually do "Deliver Us". When I brought the idea to Jon, initially, he was skeptical about bringing it to his channel due to the obvious religious context of the song. And I totally respect that. Fortunately, he was willing to do it with me on my channel. Not only that, but he made this absolutely insane instrumental for it as well. I know very well that some of you may be upset that it's not the FULL version of the song. Please understand, though, most of the song is used in a visual context. It's originally a seven and a half minute song with most of it is accompanied by sweeping, animated visuals. Our version does not have any of those, so we opted to create a shorter, but still true-to-the-original version. We removed the last singing part to keep the cover concise and replayable. Maybe if we had planned to have a third vocalist, the last section could have worked, but we had already done this series of covers as duets so we wanted to keep it that way.
It was also intentional for this video to be the most visually sparse out of all of them. Most people listen to this song in the context of the story of the Prince of Egypt (or, the Old Testament story). By removing all of that, my goal was to place this song in a more open and interpretable environment. Tight face shots (hello acne), side by side singing, black color background and clothing, I think, help draw attention to the actual words of the song and remove them, somewhat, from their storytelling properties.
Whew.....alrighty, if you're still reading this and haven't started the video, PLEASE GO AND WATCH!! IF you reading while watching, please go back to the video! Thank y'all again for everything, and I hope to see you next week ♥
Peace, love, and metal \m/

The original was a cry of despair in a moment of darkness. This seems more of a scream of rage against injustice. Weirdly enough, it works pretty well.
Well it was also injustice in the original. It starts showing the slaves building. Slavery injustice. Then the slaughter of the women and children of another tribe that surviviors would be the next generation of slaves. Murder, infanticide, slavery... injustice.
The cry of despair is his mother singing and this scream of rage is from his fathers perspective singing

I just learned that the woman who sang the song in English also sang it in 15 other languages five which she spoke because the animator after seeing her went back and made her character look like her and she was flattered.

What's worse is that these people who were given the bad blood were thought to have gotten AIDS or HIV from having sex with homosexual people. There's such a huge difference between you two. You look so sad by the story, Jon looks enraged by it. It's quite a striking contrast and really adds beauty to the song.

Being an ardent Catholic Christian myself, I watched this movie with my family this Sunday. My sister didn't want it at first, as she thought it would be a cheap, boring Biblical movie. By the end of the opening she was already crying her heart out at this masterpiece, along with all of us.
This movie is beautiful! A drawing that can make me cry. That song also makes me cry. All because I know the story. Amazingly, I picked up the album today to listen to and cried all day.
When I heard the rumors of the movie and its soundtrack, I waited with bated breath. Anyway, I am here because I have been looking for a cover of this song. Sorry, my english is not so good.
@@MariaSilvaHelena The most Brazilian thing ever is to speak perfect English and then apologise for how bad it is.

This is really excellent. Metal is a genre so well suited to express raw, intense emotions like grief, rage and despair, and also feelings like fierce devotion (a parent's love of their child in the face of deadly threats) and a hope that refuses to die even in the midst of the most wretched anguish. This performance conveys those emotions with power, authenticity and eloquence.

This has to be one of the songs with the saddest stories in that movie, I cried the first time I watched that. Thank you, guys, for doing this song, this really brought my childhood rushing back.
brad sander the movie is from the bible, history tell if you don't have faith is that it existed one guy around mose time who had the egyptian name translated means " Adopted. ". Anyway my point, they were slaves over egyptians back in the day.
brad sander u cried in the first 5 minutes
xctf I was a kid when I saw it for the first time, so yes, I did.
Gin SilverCat I know that, I was simply stating that the way it was portrayed in the movie made me more emotional than it did when I read it in the bible, because you could see moses’ mother’s emotions, as well as the ones of the slaves themselves.
I know they were slaves, I don’t think anyone here didn’t know that, I was just saying how well the song captured the slaves’ torment.
Still gives me chills to date, and I'm 22.
The circle is now complete. Thank you, Caleb and Jon.

I've always thought that Moses's story is one of the most metal things i've read.
gets thrown into river full of alligators because the other option was getting murdered
ends up living as an adopted child of the same man who ordered the mass baby murdering
ends up fleeing and almost dies on the desert
somehow survives thanks to random people he had the choice to rape at some point, but didnt
his god appears before him in the form of a god damn burning tree (thats metal AF)
comes back to his stop brother and orders him to free his people because burning tree god said so
has his staff turn into a god damn cobra that eats other two snakes like its no big deal
then uses said staff to turn an entire river into FUCKING BLOOD
releases all kinds of shit on his step-brother because he didnt follow with his burning tree god sent demands
kills his step-nephew in the process
summons a mother fucking wall of fire to stop his step brother in his dead-son murdering rage
orders the FUCKING SEA TO OPEN
drowns those who persue his people because fuck you, thats why (his step brother included)
goes to his burning tree god that uses FUCKING LIGHTNING to carve stones with 10 commandments because thats metal as fuck (no other reason really)
if that's not metal to you, i have no idea what is.
Tony Storm i have to agree, i always thought this song as one of the strongest Dreamworks ever made... the only thing this story as a whole lacks is a bunch of fathers going full Leonidas against the Pharaoh's soldiers to give the mothers time to get as many babies away as possible.. hearing the last few spoken verses in a mans voice closed the deal for my part..
Stroking his youngest sons brow: "my son, i have nothing i can give. Except this chance that you may live.." before picking up a pickaxe or something and joining a bunch of other fathers and ex-fathers..
Am i making sense in any way?...

I actually love that Jonathan sings the first part of the “mother part of the song”. You’d say that Caleb would be better for this whole part. His softer voice is perfect for the second bit, don’t get me wrong but Jonathan’s dark voice saying “my son there is nothing I can give, but the chance that you may live”... I don’t know why but it gave me goosebumps. It broke my heart and made it whole again. The whole song is one of my favourites, but that piece... the Hebrew with that sentence... I can listen to that over and over again. And then the two of them again together... I can’t. I need to listen again.
Johnathan singing the first part is as if it was Moses' father singing that part instead of his mother. Imagine how hard it would be for a man in that time to not only accept his feelings like that, but to accept the fact that his son HAS to be let go or be killed. That could kill him.

Oh hey I went from Catholic to Agnostic too. I'm in agreement with you, the movie and music are enjoyable regardless of religious beliefs. I can say though I love the efforts Caleb and Jon went to to make the song more universal, and it is incredible they managed to make it so given the song's original context.
Eh, I guess.... Honestly though, no matter what you do with this song... I think it's going to be nearly impossible to remove from that context. This story was meant to tell a story, and even with the change up in the visuals... it still tells that same story. I understand where they were going with it, but I'm not sure that particular mission was accomplished (I'm not sure it -CAN- be accomplished), even so. It's a beautiful cover of an amazing song.

The only thing that saddens me is that Miriam's verse got cut. It hurts my heart, knowing (in the context of the movie) that she knew her brother was safe and living in luxury while they suffered every day. It made her outrage later in the movie that much more powerful and heartbreaking. Her forgiveness was a huge part of the movie... I dunno. It bothers me her voice was absent.

Too cruel to stand
Deliver us
There's a land you promised us
Deliver us
Out of bondage and
Deliver us to the Promised...
Hush now, my baby
Be still, love, don't cry
Sleep as you're rocked by the stream
Sleep and remember my last lullaby
So I'll be with you when you dream
River, o river
Flow gently for me
Such precious cargo you bear
Do you know somewhere
He can live free?
River, deliver him there
Deliver us
Send a shepherd to shepherd us
And deliver us to the Promised Land
Deliver us to the Promised Land
‼️‼️‼️spread the message‼️‼️‼️
‼️don't let them take your freedom‼️‼️‼️
Thanks
Vinny thank you
Thanks For Lyrics
I had to take a moment before listening to prepare for the pure awesomeness of this!
This is a fucking metal cover yet it still brings tears to my eyes regardless because no matter the tone or background music this song still gets me, which is why it's a masterpiece when a metal cover of it still makes you cry like the original version.
mud. sans. water. straw. long ago, the four nations lived in harmony then everything changed when the straw nation attacked.

Calebs face say "try to deliver us please" while Jon is there to TAKE that promissed land!
Caleb singing the lullaby part was truly moving. That part in the movie was always beautiful to me when I was younger. Now, listening to it as a mother it takes on a whole new meaning. Well done guys!
Literally gasped when I saw this in my feed. Such a criminally underrated movie, fantastic rendition!
I did a Cover of this song too. if you want to check it out i would be very happy.

My little brother (6 years old) has become a fan of 'the beard men' (aka you and Jonathan) :p
His reaction at 3:36 was 'yes man, go on! :D'
Nazus S but that’s Caleb? I am confusion
CJ Anslow they said "(aka YOU and Jonathan)"
That's freaking adorable.
I am so going to refer to them as 'the beard men' from now on :D
Can we just refer to them as beard men from now on?
Have I listened to it a million times over the years? Yes. Do I still get chills every time. Also yes :D
I could be standing on black pavement in 110 degree weather and I could still get chills watching this
Prince of Egypt soundtrack: 10/10
Prince of Egypt soundtrack covered by Caleb and Jonathan: 1000000000/10
Caleb: River... deliver... him THERE
River: SHEESH OKAY
My AC broke and it's 83F in my room, but I'm STILL getting chills!
Who else is listening this during COVID-19 quarantine?
Deliver us
Deliver us.
Me.
i mean come on... i think it goes unsaid
Hear our call
My pores are clear, my crops are watered, my grades are up, and my student loans are paid thanks to this video.
This is stunning 😍😍😍
The cinematography starting at 1:36 took my breath away and only got better as it continued. I was super impressed with Jon's vocals too.
Caleb, keep being awesome, you knocked this one out of the park ❤
Shiloh 24601 the camerawork is absolutely incredible, agreed!
God this song gives me chills everytime, it's so good. In the movie it was like they were desperate, sad and afraid, calling for help and asking for what they were promised.
And in this version it's like they're tired of it, angry, asking for what was rightfully theirs that wasn't given to them.
That's some powerful stuff right there
I think its funny that all thepeople who didnt want to work on Shrek were sent to do this movie as a sort of punishment and it was an absolute banger
This is one of my favorite songs from Prince of Egypt. To see both you and Jonathan do a cover of it together makes it that much more awesome. You guys rock. I loved this so much. You're both talented guys and you're awesome!!! Rock on!!! \m/
Good gods, gentlemen. This is another eyelashes-fluttering-eyes-rolling-up-in-my-head-shivers-down-my-spine sort of song. I adore the music in PoE to begin with, and you two always bring it to another level entirely. This gave me 4 and a half minutes of peace during a time when it's hard to find much of any. ♥
I like the description you used. Quite apt.
This song takes on so much more immediate relevance given what’s happening now in the Middle East.
my Little Brother and I would sing this when Our Mom had us start daily chores .. it was pretty epic ..
When Caleb Hyles and Jonathan Young do a collab you don't even need to be a second before giving it a like. You two are just that perfect together.
i cried so hard.
As a mother this part of the movie always makes me cry. You gotta know how that just killed her and you do a great job putting the emotion and feeling behind her part.
I'm very impressed.
Imagine a broadway play with these 2 singing!
EPIC
If I was making a Live Musical Movie of Prince of Egypt I would love to cast you guys as the actors & singers. You guys have such emotion behind your singing here.
YESSSS FINALLY! I KNEW IT WAS WORTH IT TO SUBSCRIBE TO YOU GUYS THIS IS AMAZING
Prince of egypt was the film I would watch almost evreyday when I was a littllen. It was what sparked my love for ancient tales ,myths and folklore.
a few years ago my synagogue's youth and young adult groups put on The Prince of Egypt as a musical for the younger kids, and I played Moses' mother. Watching the movie and trying to channel her agony, despair, and hope was an experience. Just playing the part of a mother having to give up her baby and hoping that he would reach safety hurt, but actually having to go through it? I couldn't begin to imagine.
As a jewish, Israeli, and rock/metal sick...you guys deliver that amazing song divinely....absolutely amazing...and honored...keep the good work...and know you have fans in Israel as well m/(>.
The real jews are black. Js
תן כיף אחי!
as opposed to all those fake jews that are definitely real things that exist.......got it...
Why did Moses make the Midianite genocide?
You know, I had a dream once. But when I awoke, I found my nation at war with itself. Its core principals belittled, and its people divided. I tried to stand firm in my beliefs and works that things would get better, but they did not, and I dwindled. I watched as people turned against one another over desires rather than seek the truth, which would have given them hope, and it bent my spirit in twain. I watched, as unprincipled men stood and laughed, as they watched people suffer. I myself suffered great pains even in watching this come to pass. I tried to stand up, only to be told to be silent, unless I paid a tax. I tried to give all I had only to have everything taken, without second thought, or recompense. I was forced to watch as people were tortured in their own beds for what people believed to be fighting for their freedom, but the journey was a lie, and that we stole that freedom from them to give only onto onto an endless beast that will never stop consuming. I watched as magicians and great liars caused men and women to stray from the truth, only to be left bereft of any and all good things, and then; they moved onto the next. In my anger, I sought out a solution, which was abused.
I sought to bring people the justice and goodness they craved, but I was mocked, threatened and my sense of justice was circumvented by people who were afraid and my judgements were blocked, or stolen from me. Depressed and angry I gave into my despair and anger and hatred has consumed much of my life. But it was our grief that led me to the truth that society as a whole, is not well. So I asked for help, only to be belittled by small men who thought themselves fit to be leaders. So I called out to my God and cried out to him in bitterness and agony and swore many vengeful things against him in my un-understanding, but he did not leave me, and promised me, that if I believed, I shall not die. But I began to see the world for what it really is and what it has become, as I was guided to the truth to give standing to mankind, and a final warning. So I turned away from mankind to find the Son and to try his truth to see if he was a liar, but he was not and for once in my life I was happy to be wrong. The truth, had become like a stone, tied to my neck, and my thoughts were and still are, heavy. The son of Mankind, will return to us and reunite us as a species. This is the second great awakening, said by a man, likened unto the son of man. Because I have walked his path and in the end, who will stand against this great beast, whos number is 666. If you are no longer bear the truth, then I will bear it for you, and I will pass judgement against these people for I bear his records of the truth and they are WITHOUT fault.
However I ask that the people of this planet come together one final time while I compile the information required to create these changes. They are listed here on my facebook page.
There are times when Caleb bows his head, and his are slightly squinted, that his eyes look entirely black and I dare say demonic in the most eerie way.
Luna Kehrer Dude I was gonna say, it was an amazing shot
It's like the coolest shit ever, my dude.
Them dark brown eyes :)
People: can do amazing stuff like this
Me, on my fourth packet of vanilla wafers: *that nostalgia be hittin tho*
The original song used to make me cry when i was a kid....and this one achieved the same thing
When Caleb started singing the River's Lullaby (I think that's what it's called) I started crying....... Keep it up, my friend. Keep it up.
Oh my god i had no idea there's a hebrew bit in the original english song. I grew up on hebrew dubbed disney so i never imagined that the original will contain hebrew. I love your cover so youtube recommended the ost from the movie and i figured it out, i just thought i didn't understand you..
It's dreamworks my Jewish friend. And you will be surprised how much Hebrew is in the movie.
@שחר א. Your point is?
There's bits of Hebrew scattered throughout the movie - especially in the songs.
Ofra did sing the Hebrew part of the song.
אחי, אתה בא למעגל דיסני בירושלים?
As a conservative Christian (who's church approaches Metal and Hard Rock with caution) this moved me to tears. I could hear the collective anguish call out from the Israelites. You and Jonathan have a true gift. I'll keep coming back to both your channels hungry for more.
How in the blue hell is there not a full length metal version of Prince of Egypt on Broadway?? The songs from that film are metal as fuck in the right context
Your guys version of the Plague got me into rewatching The Prince of Egypt again and I couldn’t wait to see if you would do another song from them! Great work again!
You should also see their cover of "Playing With the Big Boys Now"
So I guess this means there's a good chance of you guys doing 'Through heaven's eyes' then?
and "When you believe"?
Not too low
They’ve done it :D
I like to imagine at the end when they hold out "laaaand" the camera zooms outward quickly, winding backwards through the city
I'm not even a Christian but I can definitely appreciate the movie. Your covers are always so good!
