- Natural oils bring out the most beauty in any front door wood restoration project. This is especially true with wood exterior doors. They are also the easiest to maintain even over decades. Natural oils don't peal, flake and haze over like other finishes. We are putting together many videos on specifics of natural finishes.

Hi Jeff! This is Ross from park on Sunday . Impressive skills and knowledge you have! Great explanation with lotion analogy! Big thumbs up 👍 I hope to see you on the road again!
Thanks, You have set up your channel beautifully. Were did you get all your information on how to do that?
You can go to any auto maintenance facility and ask for a small quantity of used motor oil. It will leave a darker sheen however.
Oh my God, do not use motor oil. Use fine oil blends like tung and linseed oils.
Hey Jeff, I’m so glad I came across your page. I am 29yr old painter in California. I am a coating product and coating geek. I am always trying to look for the master craftsmen like yourself and today I struck gold. If I could work for you for a week, I would. Is there any programs that you have that I can take to learn all about staining front doors. I notice you unlike all the other videos I found about staining a varnishing a front door, you don’t mention applying a marine varnish to finish the door. Do you apply marine varnish to any doors you finish? Is a marine varnish only if you desire a certain finish with a sheen? Thanks jeff, for being so passionate about what you do.
Hi juan, thanks for your comment. I don't like spar urethanes, they don't hold up well to high UV conditions in the mountains of Colorado, nor do they to the salt air here in Florida. They have way too much plastic resin in them that peals and flakes. I like to use oil blends that contain a mixture of tung and linseed oils with UV protection and then I add commercial pigments. There are many different brands available much more so in red states. The higher VOC's have made them removed from most blue states which are trying to copy the disaster in California.
what kind of oil?
Oil blends, like mesmers, cabot, superdeck and many others.
Do you use Mobil 1 synthetic oil or is any type motor oil OK to use? I notice the light weight (5W-15) synthetics are of a lighter color. Thanks.
No auto motor oils, please!!!!! See comments above.
