some people never care about such beauties. may be they have some newer model cars or a lot of money or work so they don't have to think about this jeep
I know you said at the end of the first video that you didn’t want to put any money into it, but honestly - a rig like is worth throwing a few dollars at. Get a new fuel flap, replace that rear bumper, and as long as there is nothing ridiculously wrong, fix it up for a roadworthy, and I reckon this would serve anyone for a long, long time.
Good Stuff here! Don't forget to replace the front Lower Ball Joint with OEM parts ONLY. Those are well known to pop out due to bad design. Usually it lasts about 225-250 K Km. Also get a New radiator: the A/T cooler gets corroded with age and then ATF and coolant get mixed ruining the trans.
Heck of a find and free at that - good for you!! I’m the 2nd owner of a ‘99 had it almost 7 years and I’m never getting rid of it. As some have said already most parts just get OEM especially the lower ball joints. Also recommend getting a good oil treatment inside/out on the frame and body panels so rust doesn’t ruin a good thing. Some great online forums or FB pages for answers to maintenance questions, too
I second that. If that frame isn't already gone he got very very lucky. Took me a few years to find a 3rd generation with a good frame. A good frame puts the price on it well over $6000 and up and probably appreciate more by the year. Keeping it from rotting is the key and its not hard to do but you have to be very through. Inside doors, rockers, inside the frame, tailgate and every other nook and cranny has to be well treated. That truck is a classic and already legendary. That 3.4 is awesome and gets great mpg compared to the 2nd generation 3.slow that got 17 mpg hwy. I'm getting 24 with my 2002 4runner 😊
US- So you started with a "Site unseen." $700. Got it to run, $2000. Drove and moved, $3000. Cleaned fairly well, drives, and moves, $4500. Great Job, Great Find.
Judging by the amount of views this video has reached, its obvious that there is a strong interest in these gen 3 4Runners. I've had my 2000 (same color) since new and I can tell you that it's been an exceptional vehicle. I've had four other runners (Gen2 and 4) but this is the one I choose to keep. I've done the required maintenance and there are the usual wear and tear parts that were replaced. Aftermarket and OEM parts are still out there. These are great looking trucks and are modern day classics. Toyota got it right. Always proud to show it off.
Congratulations; it must have been very gratifying putting in that work and getting such a great result! I owned a 1999 4Runner from new; great truck….seeing this makes me wish I’d never sold it!
mine was free as well BUT, she had a blown head gasket but I didn't get her until 2015 and paid a mechanic 3800 buck to fix her and to this day, she still runs strong. She a 96 4runner SR5 V6 no mods, not lifted and a automatic, Tan and a few people mistakes it as a sliver LOL smh
Just watched your last video on it. Really really great trucks. I have a 97. As you could tell the thing just started right up easily. You should make that your main car when you get it all cleaned up. They're so reliable
You are lucky. So nice to see this kind of SUV for free. And very smooth sound nice. In Sri Lanka this is about 10,000 USD It is dream for me to afford . Great show. Thanks 🙋♂️🙋♂️🙋♂️🙋♂️
I went ahead and subscribed just to see how this 4runner turns out. Try some Simple Green on the cloth interiors and some Sun Of A Gun on your plastics. A couple of hints from a guy who has been cleaning cars for twice as long as you been around. 😊 Warm up those awful stickers with a hair dryer or heat gun, peel them off and any remaining glue will wipe off with a shot of WD 40. 👍
Please make video of checking the passenger side fame rail by the rear lower control arm mounting bracket. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s rotten down low on the inner side, facing the muffler. Also would like to see the rocker panels just above the running boards and the rear face of the rear differential housing. Judging by the amount of rust we saw in the engine compartment , on the rear bumper, and the wheel for the spare tire, which was inside the back of the vehicle because the spare tire carrier is non-functional from rust, I would guess that the frame is bad.
That's a solid truck(own one), take good care of it pal👌"I'd replace/clean that pcv valve to avoid sludge, simple fix... also run a bottle of seafoam in the tank to flush out those injectors"😉
2 Bucket wash method mate!!!! Keep ur "sitting for 5 years" paint looking immaculate. I am shocked how well it's held for 5 bloody years. Anyway, great video!
Absolutely and great find and a great simi restoration. Now time for a clay bar. wax and seal until you eventually have to do a respray. That runner body style and year is something I have always liked. Good stuff Trax, I in it and watching.
LOL...they actually do. The 5th gen 4runner is....well....not light years better than the 3rd gen but it is much better in every way. Still rock solid reliable and still being built today.
Hopefully, he changed all the fluids and filters and put some Rockford Fosgate four-way speakers in And fox 2.0 monotube shocks, and got the front end aligned. answer the Sylvania Silverstar ZXe bulbs including the back up bulbs
Amazing video and I like the series of this saved 4runner. I am now a subscriber. Just FYI there are large chunks of this video that have no audio. Not sure if you knew that or not.
What a random and kinda funny frame, when you were cleaning the car, the first coin you picked was really familiar to me, and when I paused it I realized it was from Costa Rica, my country haha, wondering how that coin get there haha, great video btw
I dont know about you, but i would take it to a detailing Shop to have all the seats and carpets removed, deep cleaned and extracted as well clean the floor underneath. Also take all the side panels and headliner if possible and get all that cleaned 😅
Very satisfying video it can probably now be listed on bringatrailer or motorbiscuit. It can easily be flipped or he can choose to keep this timeless beauty suv
so what are the plans for the next 4R video? Keep up the momentum if you can. So far this SUV looks like it's worth thousands of dollars. I see a lot of maintenance updates on the way.
Serious question: Is there any danger to washing the engine like that? I have an '07 4Runner and I'd love to clean up the engine a bit but I'm scared to death to spray any cleaner or water in the engine bay. Notice any issues after you did it? This is amazing though. Congrats on getting an awesome gift. You and the young lady did an awesome job bringing it back to life. Looking forward to seeing more videos of the transformation.
if its really free then you hit the jackpot! invest about 5K on it to make it road worthy and all then sell it for 8 or 10K. if it was me, id keep it and really invest more meoney on it because its good for overlanding
Oh man, you are SO lucky with that car! I have a question, what did you guys use for cleaning the interior? And, how was the frame? Was it in good shape?
Is it just me or are there periods where there's no audio at all? Wish you'd have just left the background noise be present. Anyway great vid, the 4 runner cleaned up great.
I am your big fan Sir. This model is my dream jeep. I like 2000 models surf. But I cannot afford it in my country Pakistan. One day I will buy it in sha Allah.
In the other video you said it really wasn't worth it to spend that much on a 20 year old vehicle. i completely disagree. give her full maintenance and get it up to a good serviceable condition. it will last you thousands of miles more. totally worth it especially since you got it for free. It's a 4x4 model too so you really could get probably 6-10k for it. Totally worth it.
La moneda que sale en el minuto 1:40 es una moneda de 500 colones de Costa Rica, lo cual me pareció demasiado curioso jaja. Y esa moneda equivale a casi 1 dolar estadounidense 😀
Anyone who would scrap this is guilty of grave and frankly disgusting wastefulness. These 3rd gen 4Runners are some of the greatest vehicles ever made.
Wire brush any surface rust on the frame, brush on POR15, then spray Cosmoline or Fluid Film. The condition of the body indicates the previous road salt abuse wasn’t bad, and nature itself has nothing on Toyota paint job, it’s just the salt
I can't believe that they were gonna scrap this beauty. Thanks for saving it man.
No doubt! Why one of their relatives didn't scoop it up is beyond me!
Either it wasn’t actually free or the original owner are just dummies.
some people never care about such beauties. may be they have some newer model cars or a lot of money or work so they don't have to think about this jeep

Thanks for the heads up, I’ll be sure to look into that stuff.
@TraxNTires Did you change the oil?
@@lanesworld4000 yeah he did
the 4L works? cant believe how good it looks

Being an Ontario vehicle im surprised its not rust out entirely.
Free is always the right price !
It looks to be in pretty good shape.
What a difference after the clean up.
It sure is

Im from PR and they still go from 5 to 8k depending on the condition or if it’s the Limited version
Congratulations; it must have been very gratifying putting in that work and getting such a great result!

What a freebie, congrats! I've owned four 4Runners and they are rock solid vehicles. Great videos.. enjoy your newish ride.

Just needed some love...4runners are great...keep rocking
This was so satisfying to watch. Can’t wait for more!
Wow man she turned out beautiful you are amazing loved how you put your all into it and it was relaxing to watch you go to work on it great job
Thank you so much!
Dude puts his wife to clean the dirty car 😂😂. Hopefully you took her out for a nice dinner afterwards. The card ended looking great
The first coin is from Costa Rica, ₡500 colones. 🤙🏻

Nice. Well done. When you get a chance let’s see the underbody. I hope there is no rust to the frame. Have a great one.
It looks clean as new good job man

Me sorprendió ver monedas de Costa Rica, como habrán llegado ahí.
Me pasó lo mismo, increible una moneda de 500 colones
@@JefteMendez si que loco jajaja

Glad you enjoyed it!
I knew it would clean up well. Keep up the care as they don't make them like that anymore!
LOL...they actually do. The 5th gen 4runner is....well....not light years better than the 3rd gen but it is much better in every way. Still rock solid reliable and still being built today.

Great car, just don't drive it past the old owner. Looks great now. Not too sure about the shrapnel mounted on the passenger airbag though...
what a incredible deep cleaning i like the way u guys did the hard work :}

Great video! Just wondering why kitchen washing products? Maybe its better if you use car soap and degreaser!

Really good work on the toyota 2002 l have a question are going to keep it or sale??
Sqeeky! When will you install the gas cap cover you found when cleaning? Beautiful exterior.
Esa moneda de 500 colones es de Costa Rica 🇨🇷
How is the frame? This was a problem on these trucks especially in parts of the country were set is used.
Crazy how I was just relaxing at home watching this and the coins turn out to be from my country LMAO
Wow, what a beauty
wow that thing looks great

Looks just like mine except mine is only two wheel drive but same color
Toyota has 2b treated with respect!!!
Are you going to clay bar the truck? That'll do wonders for the paint job. It will feel new.
you really did a great job

Oh yes... power wash... THE WHOLE ENGINE 😂
Them things are €8k-10k in Ireland
Perfectly fine running 4Runner, "Welp better junk it!" lmfao wow..
I guess the previous owners either live in Costa Rica or had visited at some point. They had a 500 colones coin in the car.
What happened to the owner after he saw his car was restored?
Nice job buddy 👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Thanks 👍

Wait, is that a 500 colones coin from Costa Rica?! - why? 😅
Yeah, there are a bunch of them for some reason. Lol
Yep, I noticed that also. My Wife is Costa Rician so that caught my eye.
Was that a free tractor key?
I wonder, how those Costa Rican coins end up in that car?
The woman who owned it travels a lot
Score dude! I just bought a 2000,with 196kms.Nowhere near as clean as yours.Same colour though!
How much will ya sell er for? Been looking for one 😄
Need after Market Wheels and bigger tires ❤❤
That Western Star ...
In both videos car has different registration no. 🤷♂
Yes, I bought new plates when I put it in my name.
