Is the 2020 Cadillac Escalade ESV BIGGER & BETTER than the Navigator?

- The Escalade has been the pinnacle of Cadillac's lineup for many years. Under the hood of the Escalade is a 6.2L V8 that is pumping out 420 HP & mated to a 10 -speed automatic transmission. Being the Escalade ESV you have maximum size outside and in. It's design is unmistakable Cadillac. In the interior that re plenty of high end finishes and space. Is the 2020 Cadillac ESV bigger and batter than the Navigator?

GM really needs to rethink their SUV naming strategy because it's confusing since each one of them is expensive for very little changes the more you pay. You've got the Tahoe and Suburban on the Chevy end, the Yukon which costs more on the GMC end that literally looks identical other than a few exterior changes, then the Escalade. What is really supposed to differentiate each one of these brands since they all seem to be having an identity crisis? Ford makes it simple, you want the more mainstream version you get the Expedition, you want the luxury version you get the Navigator. Simple
Thanks for your input and perspective! I appreciate you watching!

@@RaitisRides Of course!! No Problem
Looks like a hearse from the side view. Joe no offense but you don’t look six feet tall standing next to this vehicle. The engine is enormous. That’s what she said. $93k is just a drop in the bucket. Big guns does an excellent job with the camera. Looks like you had fun testing this one. 👍
I totally can see where you are coming from Luis!
For $92k wish this thing had a revamped centerpiece "front infotainment", screens on the headrests for both rows, a full panoramic roof at least! Ventilated and heated seats through out, 360° camera view if it already doesn't especially being an ESV. And you were right, a rear bumper with molded in or two counter sunk spots for a dual exhaust for this beast like the new gmc sierra or rams.. For 92k they left a lot to be desired.. I've always been a GM fan and owner, but for the last few years I've been liking the new ram, new navigator interiors. And honestly the 3.5 EcoBoost new gen motors hp tq #s! Who doesn't love boost 🤘🏼
GM has lost there damn mind...I mean like really? $93,000 for this oversized vehicle? A standard sunroof? (shaking my head looking at the floor in disappointment)
I feel that the Denali or the Platinum Tahoe or Suburban is a better buy unless someone just has to have that label. Save 20 grand easy by doing that.
It's a suburban with different plastic grille and front bumper and some other differences, but not many. Nevermind the old RWD cars all the way up to the last 1996 Fleetwood had chrome steel bumpers and they costed way less.
American Auto manufacturers makes disposable vehicles. They 90s was when they used to make decent and reliable cars
This is so true Webster!
The escalsde is very reliable. That's why the livery industry uses them
@@Fony_turgeson Thanks for sharing that info!
I still can't wrap my mind around the fact that, GM can but won't build a proper SUV in between Range Rover and Cullinan. And yet have the audacity of asking $100k for this leviathan!!

Livery uses it because it's roomy, and many suits especially here in NYC, like to ride reclined to their destinations.

I don’t know if it’s bigger but I don’t think it’s any better than the Navigator. I think the Navigator’s interior might be nicer. The Caddy’s QUE system has been upgraded and is a lot better than the old one. If the headliner was Alcantara the interior would be much darker, as I’ve never seen light-colored Alcantara.
Good job Joe! 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
Thanks Larry for sharing your thought. The Lexus LC500 I reviewed had an Alcantara headliner,

Get rid of the giggly hand transmission shift for a premium SUV like the Escalade.
For a 2019 SUV with this price the Koreans, Japanese, and Germans are shitting all over it. With lincoln stepping their game up, no wonder the cadillac brand is dying.
When the African moors ruled Spain and Portugal they built big beautiful cities called Cadillac and Deville.

Thanks Tommy for letting me share it with you!
Happy new years 🎉
CadilLACK: lacking in quality, reliability and durability. In retrospect, Cadillac looks beautiful. I own a Cadillac Escalade ESV and it's a money pit. The quality is enemic. GM is holding back, like a virgin on prom night. For $100,000 USD GM could do much better for their consumers. The 22" wheel feature is not new. Plus, the aforementioned entity needs more chrome trim to stand out/highlight features/accents and a 6.2 liter V-8 employing an optional super charger or twin turbo would suffice. Also, if your person can afford a Cadillac Escalade ESV, gas expenditures shouldn't be a monetary issue for you. The 10 speed automatic transmission is an beneficial upgrade, though. There should be ESV tags/emblems employed, especially on the exterior, to emphasize/reward the finer distinctions and the upgraded option. All seats should be more plush and coupled with a diamond plate design/topical appearance. There should be dual glove compartments, encompassing the existing one on bottom and another one on top. The ESV should be wider, like the H2 Hummer and lifted another foot for better clearance. The OEM Bridgestone tires are inferior and should be superseded by a superior brand, like Yokohama, Michelin, Continental or Goodyear. All weather(rubber) floor/cargo mats should be standard/OEM. GM could do alot better by their prospective and current customers instead of kneeling before their shareholder overlords. More bang for the buck, GM brass, please. Hell, fabricating and installing a panoramic sun roof would be a viable option.
Very good points!
Why is the dashboard blinking like that? I think 🤔 that would drive me crazy
It's just how LED lights re picked up on camera.
Oh okay thank you 😊
Cadillacs don't often go through radical design changes but they all generally age very well.
This is a very good point!
I have a Cadillac Escalade ESV and it didn't age very well compared to my Toyota. General Motors need to step up for their customers.

@@RaitisRides LOL I know Joe I have to much love for this Cadillac Escalade 🤯.
Jay Patel definitely hands down better then a 3.5 ecoboost rumble in the navi
@@danb2 I only make an exception for the EcoBoost Engine in ford Vehicles. They should've made the Lincoln Navigator a EcoBoost. Long Live the V8 💪.
Jay Patel I agree 100% not a ecoboost fan in general. Nothing beats a American V8.
The Navigator is fresh with better tech and updates. Escalade is about 4 years late with a complete redo. I've had my Navigator for 15K miles (2019) now and can't say enough about it. I drove both and Navigator wins in every category. I admit, when I started shopping I was originally set on the Cad due to its appealing styling, but once I drove the Nav, the decision was easy. Thanks for great reviews, Joe! Keep'em coming.
I appreciate your kind words and your input Timo!
You do know the New Escalade will be announced within few weeks and it was only a couple years ago that the Navigator was using a 10 year old platform with no major updates. In this case Cadillacs vehicle cycle is way shorter than Lincolns.
Carlos Rojas true dat! I’m going to look at the redesigned Escalade when it comes out for sure. I don’t hold on to cars longer than 24 months. The Nav will be due in about a year. Depending on the Esc options and tech, I may go that route. I’ve always liked the looks.
Timo Saarelainen Short term ownership is a great idea on these luxury land yachts. The new Escalade will be more than a redesign. Look at the new announced Tahoe for comparison. It will be longer, wider with independent rear suspension like the Navigator. Its supposed to have a lot of new tech. Should be interesting.

I bought a new escalade and a new srx in 2011, had a lot of problems with both vehicles, my wife needed new headlights at the cost of $2800.00 because of moisture getting into the light bezels, my escalade needed front and rear magnetic ride control shocks at the cost of $700.00 each, I'm on my third set of front shocks! I had to replace the engine at 117 thousand miles at the cost of $9000.00.then the steering rack went bad, I love my escalade but plan on forking out a lot of money when the warranty ends!

Tahoe's are the Corollas of the SUVS so no doubt the Escalade is a win but this year the Navigator really stepped it up

I think the 2021 Escalade will bring the inovation the Escalade needs. This 2015-2020 body style is getting long in tooth and that old cue system is beyond outdated. Dont get me wrong I think this body style has held up really well and to me is the most iconic escalade. I do like what they have done to the 2020 model by blacking it real nice touch. The sunroof really needs to be an ultra view. I just think the 2021 model is gonna be pure fire!!!!!
Yeah but it’s pretty expensive.2021 Esclade starting price is like 100K
Invest that much money in a black hole of depreciation..., that’s a NO for me Bob.
I can totally understand where you are coming from!
Unfortunately, the only Cadillac worth buying. But the price point is beyond most or more then what people will pay for a car/truck. The rest of their lineup is crap. No middle ground. They really need more body on frame RWD based SUV's.
You are so very right!
Cadillac is a established brand , while Lincoln's trying. . . . Trying and trying.

Joe, The Cadillac Escalade is a decent luxury suv it has a nice engine, has a strong towing capability but there are some big downfalls the navigator has a better ride than the Escalade, It also handles better but the biggest downfall is the interior the navigator has a upscale Cabin and it has better materials than those found in the Escalade In the end the Escalade is youst a rebadged Yukon Denali.
Very good points!
Now GM Needs to definitely work on the reliability issues first ,because it still ranks damn near the bottom.

Same exact Cadillac Escalade as the 2015 ESV model nothing has changed what so ever until they make a completely new body style... you might as well buy a earlier model & pay cheaper or wait for the 2021 version new body style

There is not enough space to put my feet right between the third and second seats. I always have to twist my feet and that's uncomfortable. on short journeys and long journeys, with twisted feet. And I'm tiny. 5.3ft and my feet’s doesn't fit.
Lincoln for the win! The interior of the Escalade is just blah. Looks good but nothing special. The Navigator just looks far more spacious in the front cabin and more luxurious.
That’s one expensive hunk of junk . Same 400 HP doesn’t say luxury put the chrome back or learn how to black on black a vehicle right

Why don’t you like having black cars?
They’re a pain in the ass to keep clean and scratch very easy, I bought a 2021 black accord. Worst choice I have done with a car
Pimpmibile! Caddy's version of the Suburban cruise boat SUV
Well done, but pricey. And reliability and cost as it gets older may be an issue, but if you can afford this, and it's not too bad, with strict maintenance, care, and not abused and trashed, it is nice, and very capable performance, handling and safety, due to its size, and great cargo capability, and folding seat design. Zonks for single exhaust tip for such a big engine, vehicle and its price, as well as other things you mentioned, like the roof liner and sun roof, though, that would not be an issue for me, but for what it is, it should have the bigger, full panel, or two sunroofs, if more structurally practical. Just the right mix of black and chrome highlights, and nice wheels and tire design and size for this vehicle. If you need big, performance, and luxury, this is the way to go, or maybe the Navigator. But for this, it has to be black.
Great input my friend! I totally agree with you!
He keeps talking about how long the truck is - it’s 6” shorter than a short bed F-150? WTH???????
Does it have 24 way power adjustable seats like the Navigator? No...no it doesn’t. But it does have the same old dash design for the last 5 years. *sigh*
In my opinion, Lincoln took the lead.

Unlike the yukon and chevys, which are getting upgrades, the 2021 Escalade is getting a side grade. Honestly the new Escalade looks like shit in comparison to this one. The interior will be much nicer but the exterior will look like a knockoff benz.
Also fun fact, Cadillac is about to release the worst infotainment system ever into the 2021, with a 38 inch oled display, it WILL have burn in within a few years and will need to be replaced by 40k miles.
