  • I CHANGED MY MIND . IN A RECENT VIDEO I LAYED OUT WHAT I CARRY IN MY BLACKBIRD HAVERSACK.WELL I MADE A CHANGE. I WAS USING A ONEWINDOUTDOORS UNTRALIGHT PONCHO AND I GOT NOTHING BUT GOOD THINGS TO SAY ABOUT IT,BUT I CHANGED MY MIND AND HAVE MADE MY HAVERSACK FIT THE NEW DIRECTION. I WILL NOW BE USING A ULTRALIGHT TARP AS A QUICK SET UP RAIN SHELTER.THE TARP IS A ONEWIND OUTDOORS SHELTER /TARP FLOOR.

    Thanks!
    I have and like their poncho.

    I agree having a poncho AND a tarp, but for hammock use get a tarp that covers the entire hammock - even if it means going to another company.
    I have been using an A.Q. 10x13 Defender camo tarp for years as a tarp shelter and over my hammock and it's still going on strong!

    Hi Blackie, greeting from Australia, thank you for your time to make these videos. I thinking why don’t you add a net to the outside of the haversack, with a lock cord for adjustment,multiple uses, just an idea for you to think about.

    I like the idea but I am so disenchanted with rectangle tarps. I found a 10x10 lightweight tarp ( Kalinco ) that I use with my HG Hammock and it is plenty long enough, and even longer when setup corner to corner. Plus it has 19 tie out points and weighs 24 oz. Worth checking out.

    Best piece of gear I got from One Wind was the poncho liner/ top quilt. Love the design and use it every night. Can not wait for warmer Minnesota weather to try it in the field. As the top quilt and the poncho liner. It is definitely warmer than my Wobbie.

      I love my top quilt as well. Personally I have been camping in overnight temperatures below 40 degrees using the top quilt and under quilt. Great gear, I'm sold!

    That looks really nice, I'll have to check that out. Great that you can use it as a tent floor since I'm not a hammock camper and always looking for lightweight tent options. Thanks for the video.👍🏕

    Blackie... try flying the “floor” tarp diagonally over the hammock... ideally, it would extend a foot past the ends! The hammock drip loops could also be used to catch rain into water vessels.

    Hey Blackie! tryy setting it up diagonally corner to corner over your hammock, should give you an extra couple of feet in length? Take care my friend!

    What about using it on the diagonal over the hammock, as it should provide pretty good coverage?

    A gatewood cape is pretty good. Its a pancho and a tent. Someone took it winter camping.

    Maybe try flying it on the diamond configuration. It might then give you enough cover.

    Flexible and Adaptable is the name of the game.. Our “kits” are always evolving based on a large range of factors.. A good woodsman is always challenging himself and his gear anyway.. I believe outdoorsmen were born with certain rights- Life, liberty and the “Pursuit” of the perfect kit! Lol

    I find it tough to believe that you are not being compensated by one wind in some way shape or form - If I am wrong please correct me. I do however love your channel and have learned a ton of great information. Because of you I have discovered the Kukuri which rides with me everywhere. Thanks

      not really..but i can see where you are coming from . i buy my own gear and have spoken with the owner often.and we have become friends i really do use and like the gear..and with the high prices of hammocks these days when i find real value in what ever product i try and share the info with you guys..thats the very reason i can't stand up for the maker of my kukri..i love this thing ( kukri) it has served me well for many yrs..and yet i have seen total crap show up to others when they ordered from the same company as mine.. i have done videos for pathfinder bushpots fry pans , haversacks and trangia stoves..helle knives and worked with william collins in knife r&d work..on the wcsk ,masterwoodsman and the blackbird
      that being said ..if suddenly the quality of any product i support went to crap i will be happy to tell people not to waste money on it..all i can do is try to be honest. thanks for the comment and for wanting to keep me honest
      safe journeys

    Hi, how do you think this will hold up as a tarp floor/ground sheet? Do you think it will puncture easily? Thanks in advance

  • @robslagle
    @robslagle 3 роки тому +2

    can you attach it diagonally on the ridgeline and see if you get coverage that way on your hammock?

    • @robslagle

      It would be 9' 4" on the diagonal... since that tarp is 98" X 55"

    I have a couple of different hammocks for this reason. I have two different tarps of varying sizes, and I prefer them. My ENO double nest is too long for one of them, but not the other two which are shorter and more packable. I also have a DD 3x3 tarp which I use in diamond formation that will go over any hammock I've ever seen. My smaller tarp is a British basha, which I really like, because I can put it up easily and quickly, and with the smaller hammocks it'll work, though it works just fine as a tarp low to the ground without a hammock. I like options.

    Hey Blackie, I know it's a bit off topic but I'm looking for a suggestion for a concealed carry holster that will fit an 1851 colt navy. 44 with a 6 inch barrel. If you know of one that will fit that gun and not to terribly expensive? I can't generally open carry (darn city folk get nervous). Thank you!

    Poncho can be a rain coat, hammock chair, gear sling, ground floor, tarp how can you replace that

    • @blackoracle69
      @blackoracle69  2 роки тому

      i can do all of the above with a thin tarp..since i wear a hat the hood of a poncho is rolled around my neck..a tarp is draped like a blanket coat over me to do the same job..but in the end it comes down to personal choice i have used both tarps and ponchos many times
