Mel I love that you showed a meal your family didn’t like. That’s real life, we all make things that are not what we hoped or like. Thanks for keeping it real.
Have to add a post script to my lengthy comment below. I really appreciate that this presenter keeps it real by allowing us to see her in her actual kitchen! Complete with the cluttered counter-tops and all!! So many of the cooking channels I see feature kitchens that are impossibly clean and probably cost more than my whole house! I also follow 'That Lisa Dawn' and like her videos for the same reason...it's 'real'. So, this lady gets my sub!
Their biscuit mix, you can add cheddar cheese in the batter and brush with some butter, garlic powder, parsley and they taste like Red Lobster's biscuits!
I watched your channel for the first time this morning. I truly enjoyed it. Your presentation was informative and entertaining. I love your honesty about the frozen food veggies. The black beans that were really soy beans was enlightening. I have seen some of the items you purchased at my Dollar Tree and wondered about them. Now I know not to buy them! I have seen a Rib eye steak in their frozen food aisle and wondered about it. It looks ok, but one never knows. I going to read the package information next time I go to Dollar Tree and see if it is USDA graded. Thank you for your thoughtful words about hard times and the cost of food. It is very true that no one should be embarrassed to receive help from church pantries and county food giveaways. Thank you for your channel.
Thank YOU for this very kind comment, and I appreciate that you watched the video in its entirety so you got all the information I learned and the true experience of the foods when I prepared them. Dollar Tree is a wonderful option for combating rising food prices, but not ALWAYS the best deal and vice versa on some items. Also the location of Dollar Trees can be a real blessing for those who don't drive far or at all as well as working folks who don't have the energy for a full in grocery store trip after a busy day - they can pick up enough to get by for a day or two. Again I appreciate you watching and that you truly took the time to understand the spirit of this video challenge. Hope you have a very blessed Easter.
I LOVE that you showed the meal that didn't cut it. I have 3 siblings and would help my mom growing up by cooking for the family. The pizza garlic bread gave me such a huge nostalgia of my 12 yr old self trying to make food that my siblings would eat and mom enjoyed too. I think this is the most personally "homey" cooking channel I've seen so far. Excited for future content and ideas as price rises once again limit us.
Dollar Tree is a good place for single people like me! There are a lot of products that are smaller in size and just perfect for me. I like the Farmer John breakfast sausage in the little 7 ounce size as it makes just enough sausage gravy for two meals.
I always take these recipes and then shop at Walmart or Aldi! I understand if folks can only get to Dollar Tree, but I'm all about saving every penny I can! Thank you for the inspiration! All of these recipes look yummy!
I agree like loaf of bread is 70 cents at Aldi n the canned food 50 cents but at dollar tree it’s all$1.25 I do however love the Kraft mayo at the dollar tree because I hate off brand mayo n once it’s opened it don’t last long those little jars are perfect
I am so impressed with how you turned these DT items into tasty meals. Maybe that explains why I never find much in the frozen section at DT! But more than that, you addressed the problem of hunger in our communities. Very good and helpful advice. You and I are lucky to have family with gardens who taught us how to gather and prepare meals from scratch. There are so many who know nothing except fast foods and microwave dinners.
Thank you so much for your kind words, and it is a shame for anyone in this country to go hungry. I hope folks will reach out if they need help and I hope that my channel is helping others to learn to cook on a budget and that is really can be easy.
@@InTheKitchenWithMommaMelI loved this, although I got a little sad when you were cooking the sausage. Instead of soaking that sausage grease up in a paper towel, you could press it out into a separate pan and use to make gravy
One thing I’ve noticed with Dollar Tree pasta is that it’s thinner than some others. It tastes fine, however, watch your cook times. Also the Hunts sauce is thin but I thicken it up with a lil bit of potato flakes. Maybe a tbls or so. Works great.
I know this is 5 months old bur just found u! We soak our beans with water and baking soda overnight helps with gas. At the end we add a cup of soda to help also!
Learning to freeze food is so important and a lot of people don’t think to do it. I used to buy those squeeze bottles of dollar tree pizza sauce and only use a tiny bit. The rest would sit in my fridge until it was moldy. Now I stick it in the freezer and can make homemade pizza like 4 times with just one bottle. Same with the dollar tree jarred pesto. I add a scoop to my spaghetti sauce or tomato soup then stick it in the freezer until I need it again. Also thanks for the frito chili cheese wrap idea. I’m going to do that next time I want something really easy.
The bacon grease in the beans put a smile on my face. My great-grandmother used to call that "hechando estrellitas" (putting in little stars). Thanks for bringing up that memory for me! ♥
Hey friends, I'm making supper right now but I will be in the comments a little later with you. Don't forget to check out Mandy's video after you're done here. Love you bunches and thank you so much for watching! ua-cam.com/video/P4oNcu4l2zo/v-deo.html
Thank you for pointing out that the Dollar Store is not always the cheapest option. It is important to look at the quantity versus price. We tend to get into a rut. It’s always fun to challenge ourselves to use what we already have or to use new ingredients
22:40 those buttered bread slices for the oven-my mom would butter them up and put on garlic salt. We’d cut them in triangles and call them “toast points.” Perfect!
Thank you everyone who has been praying for our grandson. He's doing better. His mom and baby sister are doing well too. Letty (our granddaughter) should be here in August unless things change. Please continue to pray for them. Thank you again. God Bless.
Love you Mrs.Alma I am praying for you and your family. Sorry that I've missed yall.Oscar and me have been on the busy side lately. Yall,be blessed .Love from Lula Mae and family. 💕💕💕💕💕

I like it when I can find English muffins at the Dollar Tree because they are cheaper there now than Aldi. Also, sometimes my local dollar trees have cereal on sale. Once they had a bunch of instant oatmeal packets, 6 in a box for only 50 cents each, so I scooped up as many as possible.
I shop DT along with 3 other stores each grocery run. Here is what I always buy: toothbrushes, aspirin, hydrogen peroxide, rubbing alcohol, dry eye drops, cleaners, sponges, napkins, husbands denture tabs when money is tight, greeting cards, journals, calendars, reading glasses, i got my ear buds and phone charger there, husbands shampoo & sometimes deodorant, soap dish & dispensers, used to buy bread but they never have it in over a year, andy capp hot fries, trail mix, they carry fiji water, campbells beef and barley soup which is the bomb and cant be found anywhere else, i just bought some libby pineapple tidbit cups, all my spices, italian breading, ramen 5packs, tortillas, frozen asparagus, frozen pot pies, frozen jalapeno poppers, jimmy dean cooked sausage, tyson chicken fingers were good, frozen fajita veg. I never buy can veg there because they are 1.23 and aldi has them for like 68cents. Ive not got the pasta aldi has it for 90cents. but it is equivalent to krog price on pasta. I enjoy finding good deals there but i get upset when relied on things stop appearing and have been told by the manager they have no say so over what they receive...ie they do not get to ''order'' apparently corp just sends things which is weird but also to mention they have good deals on kitchen pot holders, towels, paper towel holder, measuring things, tupperware type things etc. Much values to be found there. They even sell doggie pee pads but only a 4pk. Looks exactly what i buy elsewhere so in an emergency hey.
Really enjoyed this video. Wanted to brag a bit about Vietti foods. They make Southgate chili also found labeled Vietti chili. They are located in Nashville. My uncle worked for them for years. I am rural to Nashville. Here’s a little tidbit about them! Welcome to Vietti Foods where we have been making chili, stew and soup since 1898! I have never had any film in my crockpot. Perhaps you have HARD water if you are on a well. I am 78 & have lived all across the USA. I was so excited when the Crock Pot hit the market. I was a busy Mom of 5 kids, church, scouting etc. The batchelors at the church always seemed to know exactly what time to visit us. Pull up a chair my aunt used to say, & throw in another cup of water to the soup.
Mel Love seeing how you created meals from the dollar tree. My store in south central Pennsylvania does not carry frozen food. You did a good job with creating your meals. Thank you for your honesty in your review of the food. I like to purchase disposable foil pans there. Love you an your wonderful channel. See you soon.
This is why i love Southern Frugal Mama's channel. We have so many struggling w food all across America 🇺🇸. Our Church the ladies just came together and helped one of our own Church families out. Glad to see another youtuber sharing meals from the DT. Some of us might can say no to the food from DT. But one day...that might be all we have. Thank you MM for sharing this video for so many that might be struggling. ❤ Congratulations on hitting a 100,000 subscribers !! It is well deserved MM !! 🎉❤🎉❤
So true, our church set up a “little food pantry” last year. At first, I could find lots of vegs for less than $.50 at Aldi…no more! We spend about 4 times as much as last year! Donations of food are slower to come in now, too. The prepared food, like spaghetti-os and chili and canned tamales go faster than the bags of beans, rice or lentils and the canned vegs. I feel as though many people do not know how to cook. We are looking at starting cooking or shopping classes.
I thought I wouldn’t have to go to DT & GD & FD for food on the cheap cheap, but I am 17 miles from town and only have a diesel truck that gets hideous gas mileage. By the time I go there and drive around town and come back it’s $15 gone at least. I’m a disabled senior at 62 that just went on Social Security and the exact same month. I got my first SS check and drove to town to get my same groceries I always get instead of costing $56 It was $108. That’s how much prices went up in two weeks time from my last trip. Then they want to tell us grocery prices have only gone up 4% in the last year! Where are they living at? The moon? The cheapest turkey lunchmeat I could find was Bar S brand, $7 for 8 oz. 😮😢 Milk went from $3.49 to $5.99 and they barely had any milk in the dairy case. There were no half gallons except horizon organic which was $6.25 for half gallon! The cheapest milk they had was only stacked two jugs deep on three shelves, so that’s a total of 12 gallons of milk available. In every store out here there are huge sections of the refrigerated and frozen sections empty. Family Dollar and General dollar have half of their refrigerated/frozen section empty for 2 months now. So they aren’t waiting on shipments like they lied to me. They literally aren’t getting shipments. The only good news is East Texas people refused to pay $5.29 for a carton of eggs and let them rot on the shelves and went to tractor supply and purchased baby chicks… and lo! and behold… the price of eggs, went back down to $1.63 overnight. But not before I got desperate because my chickens weren’t laying eggs yet and bought eggs at $5.29 because I was craving omelettes… but when I cracked an egg open, it stunk my whole house up. 🤢 so you know if they could just drop the price back down because nobody was purchasing then the whole thing was nothing but wealthy people gouging the little guy. That’s all any of this is. And all those wealthy people are so convinced that they have us hating each other so much across political lines that we won’t compare notes and we will blame all of the price hikes on our middle class and impoverished neighbors for how they voted. They think this is going to work to convince us that it’s all our neighbors’ fault and not just wealthy people robbing us blind. So I have completely given up all politics 100% and I will not treat anybody bad on either side of the aisle because… The enemy of my enemy is my friend! Once we put the wealthy people back down in their place, and get them to come back down to earth after we inflict some suffering upon them by refusing to pay their prices for long enough… then we can go back to arguing between ourselves about ridiculous, stupid, nitpicky garbage that the wealthy trick us in the hating each other about. 😂 but until then I love all of you unless you make over $1 million and then kiss my grits! ❤ 😂 mmmm grits… (adds to dollar tree shopping list) 🛒🥣
Love the fact you gave some ideas for meals from the DT. Years ago we moved into an apartment and while moving, my van broke down. Transmission went out. Luckily I was next door to my job and there was a dollar general store, and a laundry mat across the street. We struggled with meals but made due with a lot of pasta dishes. But I learned so much about really finding the best deal for the money. So many older people live in those same apartments and they only have that store to shop in. I’m sure there are other communities that have similar situations. I just appreciate you taking the time and effort to help people see some options they might not have thought of. Have a blessed week sweet friend ❤
@@buttonsf3293 yes it is true and my town has no grocery store except a dollar general which i hate. never set foot in. I appreciate bloggers that share this type of info. I wanted to add something for those concerned about health with these...that can of greens ive not seen at my dollar tree or id snatch that up i go to diff store to buy that at 1.80 and those greens could have easily been added to each of these recipes. Im making effort to do just that to eat more greens. Great in eggs w some cheese. Add to soup, rice, ramen, burritos, pasta salad, anything really. Ive come to like canned greens better than frozen so much easier just drain and chop.
Mel, this was a fantastic video. I love how you made your choices and prepared dinners with what you found. Thanks for sharing and reminding us that help is available through various channels if needed. God bless the work you do for us and others.
I miss the south so much! I am currently living in Los Angeles and the prices of groceries here are insane. I am a single mom and will be heading straight to the dollar tree to get all those pot pie ingredients!
I lived in parts of California for three years for work. I prayed every night to get back home to Indiana before COVID. No way will I ever go back to California. The food prices then were insane. Everything was too expensive.
Thanks Mama Mel for sharing all of your delicious recipes with us.All the meals looks so good.Yall be blessed and have a wonderful week. Love from Lula Mae and Family. 💕💕💕💕💕
We like the microwave Spanish rice, it grows on you. Regarding the frozen vegetables, they all come from China so that might explain the odd things. We've found that the chicken and vegetable egg rolls, and potstickers are good. The chimichangas and XL burritos are good too. Sometimes our DT gets Boylands soda in, $1.25 is the best price around on those.
I love all these recipes. Times are hard right now. I have been the girl at the market with 25$ that had to feed us for a week. I understand the struggle and I'm not too proud to say I have fed us many times from the Dollar Tree. These are some super ideas!!! The ravioli crockpot bake looks delicious 😋. Just an fyi..... your frozen burrito bake casserole you made in one of your videos has become one of our favorite go-to's!!! We make that with a doctored up can of pinto beans on the side and it's one of our favorite Friday night meals. (I'll never make enchiladas again! Hahahah!) Thank you for the great meal inspo!
It’s actually nuts that you guys have dollar stores with freezer sections. The dollar stores up in Canada have very little food (tomato sauce, spices, cake mix, pasta and that’s about it) but to think of buying frozen ravioli and the almight bosco sticks (apparently they’re giant mozzarella sticks and great!) makes me so jealous of the states sometimes
Don't be super jealous because not all dollartrees are the same. Our local one doesn't have anything good in the frozen section except junk, no veggies at all
Im so thankful for the dollar tree near me. They even sell ice cream, Ive seen eggs there before, Just started buying the shelf stable milk too. Thank God for them.
I also freeze my sauce flat in a freezer bag to always have it on hand and take up as little space as possible. Everything looks delicious, especially the chicken pot pie! I’m always looking for egg substitutes since I don’t always keep them around, thanks for the tip for the biscuit topping!
Thank you Mel for sharing these great ideas and tips! It's just me and my husband left at home and I feel the crunch on grocery prices. We all could use ways to save money but I feel especially for younger people with kids. They need the most help. Keep them coming!
Hi Mel 🤗 just watching this video, really love the meals you show! The chili cheese fries, we make here in Texas all year round, sorta staple in my household lol. If using a canned cheese for any type nachos, we enjoy Rico's. It's the same as used at football stadiums & ball parks for nachos anything & hotdogs. If I want the sauce cheese though, my preference really is the Velveeta with Rotel (or petite dice tomatoes and green chilies to control the heat better). Of course, that's when you're not only shopping $$ Tree !! Keep the recipes coming, I need inspiration & reminders regularly 😂❤
I appreciate so much what you did here. You had some great ideas. I'm not surprised about the black beans. I bet if you read the ingredient lists on all the items you would have been surprised at some of them. I will say this, Walmart and my local HEB offer many of their own products for the same price or less than DT. I was also surprised to hear that whatever state you live in charges tax on food items. Seems like the government gets us coming and going. 😊
I liked how you used items from the dollar tree to make some great meals. You don't have to be a chef to cook these meals. Food insecurity is real and many of us are one paycheck away from not being able to feed your family. Thanks for sharing.
Id like to add that for those in food deserts but access to dollar tree who are willing to try growing maybe some greens, tomatoes in some pots or even some micro greens sprouts indoors....dollar tree usually sells potttng soil in spring. I can not say good things about their seeds but if that is an option give it a shot you can also resprout many things from the produce section of other stores. Much nutrtion in greens and while ive not had good success growing yet im going to try again, I have resprouted green onions like a boss. and even celery. I h ave access to land and tried to grown many things couple yrs ago but it failed bad. I did get a few potatoes and cherry tomatoes but wow i invested a ton of money and time and had epic probs. However I am going to try again. Been sulking a year or two cause i also lost my beloved dog to cancer in the interim and it messed me up.
I'm always on the lookout for low cost meal ideas, so I'm so glad your video popped up. I really appreciate your honest reviews of the items & you have a warm & friendly personality. However, your closing statement was so kind & encouraging that I decided to subscribe.
Thank you, I am just myself here and I will always give you an honest opinion LOL And thank you for your kind words, so many are in need and I just want to encourage them to ask for and accept help when they need it. We are all in this life together and need some help from time to time, and hopefully we can give a hand up to someone too when we are on the other side of things.
I love all these ideas! Thank you for sharing. A little flour or cornstarch mixed with a smidge of baking soda with vinegar. It works to hold the cornbread together.
I can't wait to try this. I just made delicious cornbread muffins last night, and I'm so tired of half of them breaking off bits and pieces. I was just about to look for a solution but wanted to watch Mel's budget meal video first.
That's where I buy the majority of my food since our food stamps go cut. My social security don't go far enough. I'm blessed as many don't have what I have.
Another great video Mel! Everything looked delicious so I'm glad you admitted when it didn't turn out how you wanted or you guys didn't like it. And thanks for being real about the crockpot! I was wo dering what was going on with mine 😁. Hope you're having a great day!
This is one of my favorite videos of yours! I wrote down every meal to make here. I won’t use Dollar Tree for the ingredients but surely enjoyed seeing your experience.
I love you so stinking much!! I had the absolute best time making these dinners and hopefully we can steer everyone away from the bagged Spanish rice 😂
I love your channel Mel & watch you ALL the time, but today I am pretty grossed out! You’re a braver woman than I. I don’t trust food products at DT after watching a show that examined food products at dollar stores. Turns out they added sawdust to the spices to fill the bottles faster! I stick to cards, wrapping paper, kitchen stuff etc. having said that- you’re such fun & a good sport🥰
I buy the Southgate chili at my local Piggly wiggly for a dollar ...I actually like it way better than hormel...it's good on chili dogs as well...such great inexpensive ideas
Great video Mel! Love your message at the end and have always loved that it’s in every description on your videos! I really wanna try the Texas toast pizza! Congratulations on 100,000 subscribers 🎉🎉🎉 Have a great week Mel!
Thank you, and I'm so happy to hear that people actually read the whole description box. And I can't wait to make the toast pizza again, it was yummy. And THANK YOU for being here from the very first, we are growing ❤️
I found the Texas toast disappears with husbands or children. In fact a lot of food does that. I had to put notes like “do not eat”. We feed soy beans to our pigs here in Texas😅
Even though this video is a little bit older it still applies. Trying to teach one of my friends how to stretch a dollar, these videos are definitely inspirational and you just earned a subscriber thank you!!!

I'm so glad that you are out of that dangerous situation but I am sorry for the position you are in now with no help, I will remember you in my prayers and I'm glad that you're here with us.
I always put bacon grease in my beans. Even refried. I cook them first in knorr chicken seasoning. The taste is amazing. I was glad to see you use bacon grease also. I have had people look at me like i had three heads.😊
First, I want to say, you remind me of my niece. She is so precious. Thank you for your video. It will help a lot of people who are on a strict budget. AND, the dishes you made were delicious to you and your family. That will encourage others to go shopping at Dollar Tree. Thank you again for your information. Linda
Watching some of this made me hungry, and it's my bedtime. God bless you for being involved in VBS. My son was saved in Bible School. I have great memories of growing up in an active church with Bible school in the daytime. I'm old. 😅
I grew up on farmer johns sausage ,way salty but fry it up add in sausage gravy ,deep fry some cube hash browns, stir it all together and top with shredded cheese, throw it in the oven to melt the cheese and thats awesome food

Hey Mel! I laughed so hard when I saw "I dabble in essential oils "!!! I love using bacon grease. You are too much fun! I wish you were my neighbor, lol
Oooh! I’d be so mad at those fake black beans if this were me! It’s hard enough to get my kids to trust vegetables without the vegetable company turning on you! Edit: after what happened with the “black beans” I don’t blame you for inspecting the California Blend really closely! 😂
Unless it states non-GMO, it's most likely bioengineered. I'm guessing most food is these days unless you shop at Whole Foods or New Seasons which is way out of our budget.
Hello Mel, this was the first video I’ve ever seen of yours and just wanted you to know that I really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with purchasing food items from the dollar store. I really enjoyed your encouraging words to folks who may be struggling with food insecurity. I just subscribed to your channel and I am looking forward to seeing more. 😊
I only love my grandmother's French toast unfortunately she passed years ago and I can not make it like her I wish I paid attention to how she made it when I was a kid!
I love homemade French Toast. I always add a teaspoon of real vanilla extract as my "secret ingredient" which I do for pancake batter also. I also have been adding a little ground cinnamon to the sugar in the recipe for the French Toast, as my hungry man likes it so much. To the pancake batter, I not only add the vanilla, but a tiny amount (like 1/8 of a teaspoon or less), of lemon extract. You could probably add orange extract instead. I think I will try that next time. BUT, make sure if you add the citrus extract, that it is a TINY amount or you'll be sorry! The lemon extract I bought was intense! Even a couple drops was very strong. It was way stronger than lemon juice concentrate.
Well thank you. For this video. I love my Dollar Tree. I’m out of work right now and I’m on a very tight budget. Dollar Tree foods will. Be great to make. Thank you again for these budget meals I’m so blessed to find your channel
Hi Mel! I appreciate you sharing your budget friendly meals. I honestly believe that you can cook and make all dishes look delicious. I look forward to seeing you every Sunday night. Take care, my friend.
Hi Mel. I wondered about that white film for years. Always scrubbed and scrubbed. But when I found the cleaner paste called Pink I fell in love. That stuff cleans EVERYTHING. Just saying. lol
To clean the white stuff, a good steel pad will take it off as well bar keepers friend - the powdered kind mixed with just a little water and a scrubber.
By far one of the most helpful budget meal videos. Your meals look delicious and filling. I don't eat meat but my family does, and these recipes are easily adapted to work for my whole household. Love it. 😊

Hope y'all are staying safe from this crazy weather.
Thank you for pointing out that the Dollar Store is not always the cheapest option. It is important to look at the quantity versus price. We tend to get into a rut. It’s always fun to challenge ourselves to use what we already have or to use new ingredients
I am the same way, always needing to keep challenging myself and thank you for watching and your kind words
22:40 those buttered bread slices for the oven-my mom would butter them up and put on garlic salt. We’d cut them in triangles and call them “toast points.” Perfect!
This video was so great! Low cost meals are such a must in everyone’s household right now, like you said. God bless you Mel ❤
Thank you! And bless you too sweet friend, have a happy 4th!
Thank you everyone who has been praying for our grandson. He's doing better. His mom and baby sister are doing well too. Letty (our granddaughter) should be here in August unless things change. Please continue to pray for them. Thank you again. God Bless.

Great meal ideas. Yes Mel, we southern gals are taught to save the gold...bacon grease...
Dollar Tree food faves:
Jalapenos in vinegar
Canned pie filling
Almond flour
Morena zulka sugar
Block cheese
Eggs (during 2020 and part of 2021 "pandemic"[🙄] Dollar stores were the only stores in this county(3towns) that had eggs.)
Beans
Frozen veggies
Frozen fruit
Frozen fish
Sometimes brand name tortillas
Sometimes good prices on canned tomatoes/pizza sauce
Occasionally energy and coffee drinks
Canned seafood
Spices
Rice cakes
Occasionally brand name granola bars, cookies
Candy
Bread (hit or miss)
Shelf stable milk and soymilk.
Nail polish.
Glassware & mugs.
Don’t forget some of their cookies are great too 😋
@@cookingsherry8784i really loved DT English muffins
Looks exactly what i buy elsewhere so in an emergency hey.
forgot to mention they also carry ocean spray dried craisins great deal pouch
This lady needs her own TV show. I think I adore her! She is next generation Paula Deen. ❤
Awh, how sweet you are 😊 Thank you so much for your kind words and for watching, I really appreciate you.
I agree!
You have a wonderful healthy meal program & I love the way you present it; cheery & slow enough so I can take it all in. I 'm a Sr.
Yep!! 😊
Paula Dean?! I hope not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Founded and located in Nashville, Tennessee; we remain committed to producing products that fit today's consumers needs for safe, wholesome, flavorful meals. 😊
Thx for the info. The chili is a staple for me, I mix it with Mexican rice at $tree , good meal with some tortilla.
Actually, love the Farmer John pork products from my central California days, raising my three kids. You can really trust their products.
Great video! Love your accent 💓
Mel
Love seeing how you created meals from the dollar tree. My store in south central Pennsylvania does not carry frozen food. You did a good job with creating your meals. Thank you for your honesty in your review of the food. I like to purchase disposable foil pans there. Love you an your wonderful channel. See you soon.
You did an excellent job?! I enjoyed this challenge. I wouldn't mind seeing it again. See what else you can think of
This is why i love Southern Frugal Mama's channel. 🎉❤🎉❤
Hello Susan,how are you doing?

That's some thing I didn't consider, no transportation and no grocery stores nearby
Well done making so many tasty meals with those ingredients. You obviously care about your cooking 👍😁
Thanks Mama Mel for sharing all of your delicious recipes with us.All the meals looks so good.Yall be blessed and have a wonderful week. Love from Lula Mae and Family. 💕💕💕💕💕
Thanks for sharing. Looks good. Blessings 🙏💕
You're so welcomed ☺️
That pot pie does look good 👍
We like the microwave Spanish rice, it grows on you.
Thanks for your great ideas! Glad your family is doing well. Thanks Mel Jennifer 😊
Thanks so much!
That's so thoughtful of you Thanks for your positive review, How are you and how's the weather over there?
I have been there too! Andi agree, that burrito bake is the easiest and yummiest ever! Why work harder, let's work smarter 😎
Amen!
I've always been scared of Dollar tree frozen food because they had boxes setting out of the freezer to long. Handling is important 😮
Good job, Mel! Very interesting video.
I always clean my crockpot with Bar Keepers Friend. Cleans it right up without hard scrubbing 😉
Hello Kathy,how are you doing?
It’s actually nuts that you guys have dollar stores with freezer sections. The dollar stores up in Canada have very little food (tomato sauce, spices, cake mix, pasta and that’s about it) but to think of buying frozen ravioli and the almight bosco sticks (apparently they’re giant mozzarella sticks and great!) makes me so jealous of the states sometimes
Yep, and our Dollar Generals sell produce as well as frozen and cold foods, booked and canned food, condiments, snacks ect. Bread, juice, milk.
Don't be super jealous because not all dollartrees are the same. Our local one doesn't have anything good in the frozen section except junk, no veggies at all
We have two dollar trees in town ( in FL, USA) and only one has a freezer section, which only carries popsicles
Im so thankful for the dollar tree near me. They even sell ice cream, Ive seen eggs there before, Just started buying the shelf stable milk too. Thank God for them.
i am american and i am jealous of your wonderful cookies that we cant get. those maple leaf cookies are my favorite
I also freeze my sauce flat in a freezer bag to always have it on hand and take up as little space as possible. Everything looks delicious, especially the chicken pot pie! I’m always looking for egg substitutes since I don’t always keep them around, thanks for the tip for the biscuit topping!
Shoot yeah i just discovered dollar tree sells freezer bags-- name brand.
I store my unused or leftover sauces that way too. Works out great.

Yes my state charges .06% tax on food and same across the border ad neighbor state I came from. It is all i've ever known.
Thanks for the recipes. Cream of celery is another great option for casseroles, especially with tuna.
We like to take the canned chicken and fry it up, then we put it over a salad mix. It's a good lunch or light dinner
Reminds me of when I was first on my own and eating from the Dollar Tree, although I wish I had these Momma Mel meals to guide me! lol
I love this video. Reminds me of a couple years ago I would cook with all these products living paycheck to paycheck. Cheers !
That's where I buy the majority of my food since our food stamps go cut. My social security don't go far enough. I'm blessed as many don't have what I have.
Thank you for the recipes, and the tips and tricks from you and your family. Blessings.
Another great video Mel! Everything looked delicious so I'm glad you admitted when it didn't turn out how you wanted or you guys didn't like it. And thanks for being real about the crockpot! I was wo dering what was going on with mine 😁. Hope you're having a great day!
Thanks for sharing. Much needed.
I'm so jealous of what you can buy at the dollar store there. Here we can get candy and rice and bread if you're lucky!
They sell similar stuff from the video at My Dollar Tree. However, I think the smaller Dollar Tree locations do have less variety.

I doubt that.....
I buy the Southgate chili at my local Piggly wiggly for a dollar ...I actually like it way better than hormel...it's good on chili dogs as well...such great inexpensive ideas

That corn muffin package mix contains “Bioengineered Foods.” That’s stuff EVERYONE should be concerned about!!
Does anyone else love French Toast? I fix this on my low budget grocery shopping meals. With a side of sausage. Dinner or breakfast.
I just stumbled into your account but your personality and your voice is so comforting. Thank you for making these videos ❤
