Thanks so much for this reaction! I have been wanting to unveil them to you both for so long! Had a marathon lined out for 5 months but it just never worked out! And i wanted it to be both of you! DMB will
Always be a top 5 band for me! I am a huge fan and i knew you would both enjoy them. Carter Beauford , the drummer in this band is my third favorite drummer behind Danny Carrey and Gavin Harrison. You need to deep dive into this band. Dave is a great songwriter and the musicians surrounding him or so talented. They have many different type of songs , styles! They also are influenced by “the Dan”.. thanks for being such amazing people and for the friendship! I am thankful everyday, that i clicked on your channel a couple years back! Love you! Nick , you really need to do a full album!😊

Thanks, Eric. I was working up a DMB request also. And Yes, I was in a few of those concert crowds too. Always delivered the extended versions live - could last all night. Props to Carter Beauford … and the memory of that balloon truck outside the concert gate. Lol 😎. Great reaction, Nick & Lex ! ❤️‍🔥😽

Thanks for the reply , you are legend here! Glad you are part of this community. I am excited for the concert . Its been 7 years since i saw them last. I know the new lineup is different. Miss Boyd Tinsley on violen and LeRio more on flute/sax. But they still sound great live to this day! Take care Michele!!❤

Eric, I saw them in London on 12 March 2019 on their last tour here. They were brilliant, didn't really miss Boyd's violin too much, and they played 'All Along The Watchtower' as an encore. Absolutely spellbinding. Along with Elbow, my favourite live band.

One thing about DMB is their live versions almost always sound better than their studio recordings. Being a jam band their improvisation and musicianship comes out better live. They play different sets every night.

One of my favorites since their first album. I would say try "Ants Marching", "Blood in the Water", "Bartender", or "The Song that Jane Likes". I just saw them in concert a few months ago. They have had some personel changes over the years and have a more rock sound now without the violin and permanent addition of Tim Reynolds as a guitarist.

I took my son and daughter to see DMB over 12 years ago.
They have now seen him over 20 times (yes, I’m jealous).
    Their live sets are amazing!
Completely agree with the other recommendations! I would also add “ Bartender”, “Spaceman” and “Funny the Way it is”!
Be careful with this rabbit hole!
    Love your channel!!!

Eric, you have made my day. I have been curating a DMB marathon in my mind for quite a while, and you have blown everything open! I haven’t listened to the reaction yet as I'm away for the weekend, but will do tomorrow. A great choice for NicknLex to hear first off. I remember DMB back when they were a local band and played a mile from my house! This track was a deep one... next time try "Ant's Marching" or "What Would You Say". Funny that you mentioned Grunge... I was working in radio in the 90s and Grunge was everywhere. When DMB finally got their major label deal and released "Under The Table And Dreaming", I remember the phone lines LIT up when we started playing "What What You Say" because it sounded so much different and was like a breath of fresh air compared to all the doom and gloom. Great reaction!

Right now there are 7 members. 3 are still there from the original crew (Dave, drummer, bassist). They started out with 5. Saxophonist passed in 08 and the violinist was released from the band in 2018. They have added another sax player, trumpet player, electric guitarist and keyboardist since the original crew.

So excited to see you finally check out DMB! One of my favorite bands, Ive seen them 10 or 11 times since their first tour. Even now they are regularly one of the top 5 or 10 highest grossing live acts pretty much every time they tour, over the last 30 years. Their shows are a musical celebration, and his fans are devoted the same way the Dead's fans are. Their drummer Carter Beauford for me is 2nd only to Neil Peart as the best drummer of the last 40 years. He plays live exactly what you hear on the album and its hard to believe one guy can play drums like that at all, let alone for 2 and a half hours a night! His jazz and progressive rock influence are obvious.

The Original band was five members, Dave on Acoustic guitar, a bass player, a sax player, who died in a snowmobile accident, the Drummer, and a violin player, who is no longer in the band, I think now the band has extended to 8 or 9 players adding another guitar, Trumpet, and keyboards. "Ants Marching" from their debut album is still my favorite piece.

Hi guys, I've finally got to see/hear the reaction. Excellent! I am a huge Dave Matthews Band fan. Some trivia not mentioned anywhere below yet.... Dave's family moved to South Africa when he was very young, and he spent his formative school years in Johannesburg, returning to the US around the age of 18. As a consequence you will find some of his songs have an African influence which he incorporates wonderfully into his sound which is so hard to categorise. Certainly not grunge, but rock, jazzy sometimes perhaps, folky, bluesy, Americana. It's like a big old melting pot, which makes them so interesting and brilliant live. His first 4 albums in the 90's are probably his most popular, but every album since then has had wonderful tracks on them and I hear they are touring a new album shortly. Hopefully they will cross the pond for a show, they usually do, and I will be there. I've seen them about six times at venues of varying sizes but always the gig is amazing. Such a wonderful live show, all music for 3 hours at least. I'm so pleased you are discovering this marvellous, original band xx

I love that you somewhat ID'd this as grunge-ish in style.... Grunge (Seattle) was making it's debut at the same time this album was created (Charlottesville) on literally the opposite side of the USA map. The alternative music from the early 90's was definitely a product of a generation that was ready for more authentic/deeper meaning musicianship. It was "alternative" because folks weren't used to anything else that sounded like it being popularized before.

@@danieldifranco3856 Dave Matthews seems like a nice guy. He makes some really nice, warm, friendly, straightforward, approachable music, doesn't he? This band has far too many styles to categorize. I'd suggest a few more of their earlier tunes, "Tripping Billies", "Too Much", or "Crush". The latter is a very smoky and sexy tune. You must do the album version, which was extended and contained a fantastic outro.

That's Dave's voice. He wasn’t trying to sound like anyone else. He has a very unique voice as he's from South Africa. His voice is still very much like this, but has aged like a fine wine. He still sounds incredible live. The whole band is incredible live.

What a WILD first listen for DMB. I mean, it's a GREAT song, but not one that would come up in anyone's first 20 DMB songs they thought of.

There are no words to express just how much I LOVE the barely-audible "THAT... was *bad* as SH*T!" at the very, very end!

This is a really good energetic track, but it's honestly not even close to being one of their best songs. This song is basically a jam.

Comparing DMB to Grunge is comically bad. “They’re the 90’s, so they must be grunge.” 😂😂 Ridiculous. Also, Carter Beauford is what Neil Peart wishes he was.
