Good ear! And a good set of songs for a medley. "One for the Vine" was a nice surprise. "Blood on the Rooftops" and "Trick of the Tail" were nice surprises as well. So basically their "____ __ the ___" songs.
5:00 Supper's Ready part 6: Apocalypse in 9/8 (Foxtrot) 5:39 One for the Vine (Wind and Wuthering) 6:18 The Musical Box (Nursery Cryme) 7:13 Watcher of the Skies (Foxtrot) 7:49 Blood on the Rooftops (Wind and Wuthering) 8:23 Firth of Fifth (Selling England by the Pound) 9:27 The Knife (Trespass) 9:34 Trick of the Tail (Trick of the Tail) 10:13 The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway (The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway)
@@NicknLexYou definitely need to do Seconds Out, one of the best live albums by any band. Love to hear your opinion on Phil’s version of Suppers ready, long divided fans to which is the better version. The live version of several songs are better than the studio version, the Cinema Show is the standout in this regard, as you hear both Phil and Bill Bruford in the instrumental section. This is the only song on the album with Bill though, as Chester Thompson does the rest.
Genesis created so, so many wonderful and amazing melodies, grooves, and moods that in years, decades, or even centuries, many composers will be mining them to create new music.....much as the classic composers took folk songs as the basis for their epics. Their music will live on far into the future.
just following along... supper... one for the vine... musical box... watcher... rooftops... firth... trick... lamb (one of the bits I learned to play) (yeah, I do firth intro too :-) nice to see the youngsters connecting to this. more power to ya.
Hey best couple on UA-cam! The lamb lays down on broadway is a cool song! Love it. My dog lays down on driveway is the 2024 update. And when my dog lays down on driveway she’s usually looking for a belly rub. 😂
This was super fun to hear with you! Thank you for doing this. I had a moment in the middle of Lamb where I reminisced about cranking this up in my bedroom around 1980 as loud as I could get it on my HiFi stereo system (it sounded fantastic - could FEEL it throughout my body - spent many hours doing this as I was 16) and now I thought about how back then I HAD NO IDEA about what I'm doing now in 2024 watching and listening with you on UA-cam. I NEVER IMAGINED I would eventually be doing something like this. So weird! (But I'm listening now on the same speakers I used back then :-)
A wonderful compilation of some superb Genesis tracks in a beautiful arrangement. The music from Genesis is timeless and such brilliant quality it still astounds to this day. You must do the actual live medleys from Genesis themselves notably the 1984 one from Birmingham NEC containing In The Cage/Cinema Show/In That Quiet Earth/Colony Of The Slippermen/Afterglow and The one from Rome 2007 In The Cage/Cinema Show/Dukes Travels/Afterglow. They are superb.
You guys are so great... and, Nick, I'm so happy you shared Security Project (and Happy Rhodes) with Lex. I was the one who has sent you all those Happy Rhodes reactions -- and this Security Project reaction, and i'm so happy you're really embraced them. I've seen them live a few times, and they are amazing. Really superb musicians. And i've seen Happy perform live a few times as well, and she is a wonder to watch. Also, I love, love, love how the beauty and complexity of music move you both so much. You two are wonderful.
Genesis ha hecho varios medleys en vivo. En Three sides live empiezan con in the cage (The Lamb…) y siguen con un medley que terminan tocando Afterglow (Wind and wuthering). Años más tarde en el The way we walk tour, editaron dos discos en directo, uno de singles y canciones cortas y otro de largas. En The longs tenemos un tema de casi 20 minutos que se llama Old Medley. Vale mucho la pena escucharlos.
Wow! Happy Rhodes vould sing the telephone book and I think it would be wonderful. Certain pieces of music move the soul and stimulate the emotions. It's such a joy when that happens. You embrace that Nick. 52 years living with Genesis and counting, how lucky am I and all Genesis fans. Seeing Steve Hackett in Manchester later this year and I can't wait!!! What a heartfelt reaction, thanks guys.
I supported Genesis when they first got going at a venue about 3 miles from my home. I feel like they have been a big part of my life. They have evolved, changed, developed, just like we all do as humans, as we get older. What a great medley of their songs and in no chronological order too. Nick does not have a problem with running makeup 🤣
I've been fortunate enough to have seen Security Project four times now and have decided that it was very nice of Peter to write such great lyrics for Happy to sing. She also does an excellent job on her own. Her solo catalog deserves a deeper look!
You made me lol. PG the Mensch. -- lucky, too, to have seen them all with the band and in many different gigs. He workshops with Levin and crew, too. AWESOME.
JustJP tried out one song from "From Genesis to Revelations," but he never returned. Not unlike how Phil-led Genesis was different from 70s Genesis, the first LP (featuring Gabriel, Banks, Rutherford, and Anthony Phillips) is different. But, what is so impressive is realizing how young they all were in the late 60s when they wrote that stuff. It's worth a listen.
Didn't know this medley, it's beautiful. Genesis were experts in doing medleys, there this group come close to their level. Understand your emotion Nick. So touching. I wish they did a longer one. There us one on YT by Antoine Baril "one man Genesis", which is longer and more on power. But I recommand it hugely! He was hired by The musical Box as drummer for a time. But even if it's beautiful, it makes still want to listen back to the original.
Hi guys, have you already heard "A Tribute To The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" by "Rewiring Genesis"? Nick d'Virgilio did a reinterpretation of the whole album.
Just to point out to N&L; Nick d'Virgilio was the original drummer, and then lead vocalist for Spock's Beard. and has also done other covers with the late-great "Kevin Gilbert" (including the entire "Lamb Lies Down on Broadway").
The early part in the melody you two said "sounds familiar" but couldn't quite place was "One for the Vine" from "Wind & Wuthering"...Then the section you thought was from "Supper's Ready" was actually "Musical Box" which then went into "Watcher if the Skies" which you correctly named...("Supper's Ready" had actually kicked things off)...Good work catching "Blood on the Rooftops"! "Trick of the Tail" was the later portion you knew but couldn't name, with your fave "Firth of Fifth" thrown in for good measure...All in all, well done in both arrangement and performance...
Interesting medley. I do appreciate anyone trying their hand at playing Genesis music, though nothing beats the originals, or as some have posted, Seconds Out with Phil singing a lot of tunes originally sung by Gabriel. The Lamb with the Musical Box ending live is pretty sweet.
I hadn't heard of Security Project. I see Steve Hackett and his band and The Musical Box whenever I can, and now I have to go listen to and watch for this band too.
Primero se escucha Supper's Ready, luego One for the vine; después The Musical Box, luego Blood on the Rooftops; después Firrth of Fifth; luego a Trick of the Tail, etc, etc.
Love how you connect so powerfully with the music. A wonderful experience. Great reaction as always. Can never have enough Happy Rhodes and Genesis 👍They do play some medleys. We Can't Dance tour has a fairly large medley section that on spotify.
Hi Guys, this was amazing and I needed reminding the lead vocals was female. Excellent medley leading up to The Lamb. Beautifully done. Definitely worth hearing more. Maybe after Nick gets the album he can pick out another track to share ? Byee Jim X
You need to listen to Steve Hackett and Orchestra at the royal festival hall. Suppers Ready is the standout track, Steve takes the closing section to another level.
This band is quite incredible! ❤. Maybe it’s time to react to The Lamb album again - one side at a time. (This time without the cartoony film which was good but also somewhat distracting ) Cheers Tom from Toronto
Security project, en su discografía, se centran mucho en temas de los primeros cuatro discos de Peter Gabriel. Cuando entréis en esos discos vais a alucinar. Me encantaría veros reaccionar a Lay your hands on me del Live from Athens vídeo. Increíble.
Such a great medley. And I completely understand your emotional reaction Nick. Early Genesis music brings me and many such joy and enjoyment. Check out a video from the 2007 Genesis tour. They perform a medley of the early music and, even though I'm not a fan of the three, it really is very good. ua-cam.com/video/1715EQ5TcbE/v-deo.html

Genesis melodies touches deep of the human soul. Never have heard this medley, but hearing all of these iconic meldoies made me tear up. That's also happens to me when I listen to Mike Oldfield compositions, especially Ommadawn pt.1. That's why I always recommended for Nick to listen to it, knowing your preference in prog world you will love Mike Oldfield so much, it has the same feeling as with Genesis, listen to Ommadawn pt.1 by Mike and try not to tear up from this masterpiece melodies, Mike also wrote his best studd when he was 17 y.o. - 23 y.o., it's just crazy. Thanks for the video
These hepcats ought to do a cover of Band Geeks and vice versa. I had a thought. Consider this: Some people pay great sums of money to go to music school in order to consciously and deeply listen and analyze songs...among other things, of course. Then they will make money teaching, playing, writing, etc. But many students never spend as much time, and energy, as you do...so you may as well figure that books, gigs, and all the rest can easily be in your future, and probably should...since you would be putting to extended use that which you have learned through all this deep listening. That you also play is just another reason. You reactors will be the most knowledgeable and capable in the bidniz.
Security Project refers to Peter Gabriel's brave, unique 1982 African album, which the label forced him to name "Security" in the U.S. This was a ground-breaking album in how Gabriel composed and recorded the music, and it also blazed a searing hot searchlight upon human rights abuses, across the globe. I have given you a UA-cam link here, to a 1977 live concert for German television, that Peter and his amazing band performed during second solo tour, during his Punk Rock period. Here, they play the Genesis title track to Gabriel's final album with them, but this is the violent, Punk version. It is wild! ua-cam.com/video/vd4aaoLE5co/v-deo.html --- OronOfMontreal
I have mixed feelings about this. Like you said, keeping this great music alive is wonderful. Still, the OG is better in so many ways. This is done with love obviously and I appreciate that but... as time moves on I should appreciate a live quality production. I can think of many conductors who seem to screw up Mozart, Beethoven, … It's subjective when you can't hear the OG, but with this I can hear the OG Genesis. P.S. Beauty can be very emotional, no regrets.
I am so sad this got taken down from Spotify. Glad its still here❤❤

that was tricky what they did re: trick / knife. a blend. very subtle reference to knife.

Speaking of female vocalists, wait until you hear Steve Hackett's version of Ripples with his sister-in-law Amanda Lehmann on vocals. 😉
She's incredible live on Shadow of the Heirophant

Jerry plays very hard, very musical, like Phil -- he gets those drums singing. Maybe why PG used him for years.
