My level of respect for you has grown. You could have picked out the biggest bull to harvest but you didn't. A lot of guys egos wouldn't allow them to have that kind of discipline. Good job, Steve.
I don't remember ever seeing a MeatEater show where Steve says something like: "This time I'm going for a trophy animal". He is always more interested in what's usefull... the meat, hide and edible parts. He's my kind of hunter. As my dad always said, "antler soup is awful, so why hunt for them?"

I love your last little bit--i always have a hard to time explaining to people that true hunters, have more respect for an animal, and a non hunter will ever have.
This guy idles at beast mode. The dinner looks like family time on the Rez; I have fond memories of all my uncle's coming back to eat after some hard work, as I got older I got to become part of that.
The bile thing is also part of my culture as well. Although we add herbs to the bile and meat before eating. It is respect to the animal, so we try to consume as much as we can, even keeping the bones to make soup broth. This goes for all big game that we harvest. For birds, we do not rip out only the breast. We pluck the bird completely, gut it, then cook the entire thing. I was born in the states and learned this from the elders that immigrated to this country. I still carry the tradition to the younger generations that I hunt with, even though our fore fathers are no longer with us.

I was so against killing animals until I started watching this show... As an animal lover, it's hard to watch them being slaughtered but at the end of the day, I get it, it's the cycle/circle of life for some.
as a hunter myself, im glad you are able to see that its not black and white when it comes to the taking of an animal's life. the philosophy i was taught was that going and harvesting your own meat was healthier and more ethical than the meat you get from the supermarket shelves. you know where the meat is from, you get exercise from it, you actually study and come to love what you eat (as an animal and a food source), and the animal i harvest gets to have a life and the freedom to roam. being a conservationist and animal lover myself, i believe that the choice should always be yours whether or not to hunt, but respect for the animals from 100 percent of the population is a must. without respect for an animal, they will eventually go away for a long time like the Bison or forever like the dodo. Hunting is not slaughter, if it was it would be called "getting". to hunt, is to harvest and pay respect to the land and the animal you eat and to gain emotion and pride with what you eat. Slaughter is without respect and and takes the joy, disappointment, and the anger out of the hard work it takes to get an animal.
I feel that if one consumes meat at all they have a philosophical and ethical duty to harvest, clean, and eat game at least -once- It is a spiritual experience. I am proud to be connected to my meat. Now that I'm older we have our own livestock and poultry. I know something I raise or hunt had good quality of life, it died in a clean humane way, and it was appreciated by me and my family. So many folks have been responsible for the death of hundreds of animals (and most of them in poorer living conditions) and will never know what that steak or chicken breast REALLY means. I can take pride and comfort in what I eat, and I'm proud to feel that way. I'm a grown ass man, and I still get that feeling when I'm crouched down next to a deer.. A smile on my face and sometimes even a tear on my cheek.. I'm truly fortunate to be in that position, and so very thankful and humbled. I hope that animal lived its BEST life while it was here... and I know it is going to help me live my best life. Get out and hunt.

@@louzer2566 Oh trust me it is. My grandpa has a ranch in San Luis Potosí and we would go 3-4 times a year from Texas and eat this kind of food. My grandfather also hunted wild game to put food on the table. He planted Maíz and other vegetables but he also hunted deer, rabbit, jabalina, quail and other game. My grandmother God rest her soul made amazing food only my aunt Irene learned her recipes. God willing this coming year I’ll be going again to enjoy the amazing food in Mexico. God bless
Trust me it is bro !! I can't wait to get on my grill this weekend.
I can't wait to get on my grill this weekend!!
That last bit really sums up a true hunter very well.
How did I just discover this channel + series? It's amazing.
Steven is my newfound hero.
I wish we could have an experience like that here in Australia
You can bowhunt water buffalo there. Check out Adam Greentree if you haven't already.
Dude are you serious? We have water buffalo and scrub bulls all over the top end of Australia. You can do exactly this
@@mitchellannis-brown2487 Yeah that probably is the case but I have to get on a plane to get there bro. It would be quicker and cheaper to go to NZ
Tongue is one of my favorite cuts of any big game.
I wish they would speak about their gear selection. Rucks, boots, binoculars, rifles, round selection for different game types 🙏🙏
I want to 2nd your request. Steve hunts in so many different locations I’d like to know what equipment he taking with him each time. Also, I laughed really hard when he described the taste of a 9 volt battery. Having 3 brothers myself I know what it’s like to be challenged to taste something. I’ll take his word on what buffalo bile tastes like. 🤢🤮
His gear has evolved over the years. His gear now is stone glacier packs, schnees boots, first lite clothes, vortex optics and Weatherby firearms
@@calmlikeabomb1340 Thank you. I realize I can look at the logos on much of his kit, but some things like tent & sleeping bag aren’t always apparent. I am sure the show wants endorsement money if he mentions the manufacture’s name so maybe they avoid it for that reason. It always comes down to money.
Yeah all about the money, but as his show had gained popularity his gear has changed. In early episode he wore sitka and kuiu, not sure what that pac is may be exo mountain. Hell id take his used kit, because that name brand stuff is out of my price range haha
He also talks on his early episodes of his podcast about how he used to buy hunting clothes from good will. He's come a long way from there and good on him. Love his show and podcast. The whole meaeater crew are great representatives of what hunting and fishing is all about.
One small thing I appreciate about this show, other than the excellent content, is the amazing background music in every episode. Haven’t watched one yet where I’m disappointed in that regard
Exelente cazeria me encanta lo que ases sebe que eres una gran persona saludos de Culiacán Sinaloa México 🇲🇽
ive always wondered about that business of seasoning the liver with gall. that reaction was kinda what i expected. good on ya for trying it.
Some plains Indians were known to kill and drink the stomach contents of their horses when needed so it’s not to surprising they liked gallbladder.
Nice video good real Mexican food they work very hard , Peace ☮️
Who else can't get enough of meat eater? One of my favorite shows, rock on Steve
Pulled out your inner Clint Eastwood with that “dehydration was a killer”
You need to try raw beef laab (tartar essentially) with some gall. Its one of the best asian game dishes you can honestly make! The same recipe can also be used for fish/chicken/venison and more!
I watch this all day
Same video all day?
Get a job.
It's only 22 minutes though..
Don't you normally cover the hanging meat with something to prevent flies from laying their eggs into it? Great privilege to get to eat so many different types of meat to work for it. This Channel is one of the best I have seen for a long time, your love for the meat and the Land transpires in every video.
If I have to see another Ty Pennington commercial about mortgages, I'm going to let Steve blast me with that rifle...
Hunting in your g-string. Thanks for that image Steve, now I have to poke out my minds eye. Great video, thanks for the video, keep up the great work. Looking forward to the next season of MeatEater.
really good video, educational and interesting, and thats every single Meat eater i've seen! really enjoy watching these videos!
Mr. Rinella is the best at narrating his hunts
My God, stomach is growling right now!!
ACU
In hot, high exposure, low wind scenarios, I highly recommend the sunbrella. Bring the shade with you
Epic segment brother. What a great experience.
