Filmed in the gritty streets of Chicago's South Side, STONY ISLAND tells the story of Richie Bloom (Richie Davis), the only white kid on the block, who forms a multi-racial R&B band. The film features first performances by Richie Davis (now a Chicago guitar legend, and founding member of the beloved Chicago Catz), Susanna Hoffs (later of the Bangles) Dennis Franz of NBC's 'NYPD Blue' fame, and Rae Dawn Chong (daughter of Tommy Chong, QUEST FOR FIRE, THE COLOR PURPLE) and the directorial debut of Andrew Davis (THE FUGITIVE, HOLES, THE GUARDIAN). stonyislandmovie.com | @IAmStonyIsland

Saw the theatrical release of Stony Island back in the '70s. Now, viewing this excellent making-of documentary, I have a much greater appreciation of what I saw decades ago.

and Mahalia Jackson , and the ASTOUNDING Staple Singers ( Pop Staples, and daughter Mavis Staples - had a dark green long Cadillac).
I saw Muddy Waters (McKinley Morganfield) for 50 cents a beer, over on Cottage Grove.
And the EARLY Ray Charles (3 of us 16 year old white Catholic girls) on 66th St. (the management was so surprised they forgot to card us). We had exactly enough pennies to pay the bill.
STONY ISLAND? Please add 'Hitch Hike", the immortal Marvin Gaye - music video with that fantastic line: "Chicago City limits" is what the sign said....I'm goin' to that street called 63rd (and Stony Island")
And Cassius Clay aka MOHAMMAD ALI - Lived 4 blocks from Stony. Known as "All white, on white, in white" because he traveled Stony in a magnificent white Cadillac with white rims, white leather interior, and chauffeur so white and so short you couldn't see him. He blended in with the white leather.
GREAT GREAT GREAT MOVIE, 'Stony Island"
Pres. Obama's library and new education center is now being built AT 63rd AND STONG ISLAND.
Make sure "Stony Island" movie is a big featured part of it!!!!
