I actually want to do a urban design course so I can become a urban designer ( city planner ). But where I live I need to have a degree in Architecture & Economics. And it’s all too confusing.
I studied anthropology in undergrad and am considering a masters in Arch in the future. Cool to see that what I've learned won't go to waste in studying architecture :)
Anthropology is important in architecture bur depending on where you live or plan to study they may not allow you to do masters in Arch if you do not have Bachelor degree in Architecture approved degrees due to all the technicals they teach during those 3 years.
I'm hopefully gonna study architecture next year (still applying) and I'm a bit nervous about how expensive it could be because I have a pretty tight budget. Is there a way to keep a low budget or is the expensive part inevitable? I know I probably won't have time for a part time job but I wish I did sometimes.
Again such a awsome video from u. Actually im from germany and dont know how university works over here . But with your videos you inspired me to become an architect in a few years. Thank you so much and great greetings from munich :)
2nd week in and my mate's model got smashed by the teacher as well as getting his drawings ripped from the wall all because he had a square shape in his design (despite is overall non-quadrilateral overall design) edit: we had design 2 times a week 9 am Mondays and Thursdays which we cycled through culture, urban and materials after the end of the month (so about 3 months in total). History lectures were unfortunately right after Monday's design class so we were all wiped out the moment we sat down
That's horrible to hear.... My teacher, in my third semester, threw my model in the trash and poured Cuban coffee on it. It's a funny story I tell every once in a while but I don't condone that type of behavior from professors.
@@Moochers well at least he cant complain it stinks now that it has eau de caffine. My own experience with these teachers were slighty different. i ended up with the same insane teacher (that smashed my mate's model) twice, thankfully i knew how to get off her sights and what NOT to do but still was a tough class. she had a partner thats always seems to be with her every year who was a bit a laugh though. i remember that guy getting so pissed at my drawing the first week i had them, got up and drew on my work with gusto and frustration however he didnt realise (and neither did i) there was a needle behind the pinned paper so as he drew he accidentally bled a bit on my work.. lesson of the day: Its ok if theres a bit of blood on it. shows youve been working really hard put in your folio (Teacher's words)

This video actually helped inspire me. I'm currently in Engineering school, and I too am not very good at math. First thing in your video and I was like "you too!?" Lol
currently doing my thesis in architecture and i still cant generate a concept. that's the hardest step for me in design class. haha. on a brighter note, i loved theory and history classes.
At my school there's typically around 200 freshmen that enter and apparently only 10 ish end up actually becoming licensed architects. It's a brutal world.
During the pandemic I "remembered" my dream to study architecture 22 years back. I am reading as much online as possible. And your video made me more interested in it. I am thinking of taking some undergraduate courses. What do you think?
I'm currently in the military and have plans on going to architecture school when I get out in a few years. If I do all the basic core college classes like math and english and all that online now, will that shorten the 5 year degree a little bit or alleviate some of the stress? Or is it even possible to bust out the core classes now?
Yes. If you can , get those out of the way. It won't necessarily make you spend less time in school but it will allow you to focus only on architecture when the time comes. You will need all the time you can get. Also , do some research on schools you would like to go for you bachelors/masters and ask them if it's possible to go in to their graduate program if you already have a bachelors in something else. My school did this - they allowed you to get your masters in 2 years if you already had a bachelor's in another degree. It won't be easy, but a lot of my friends did this and it was super helpful for them.
@@Moochers I'm looking to go to Virginia Tech and I'm a MP so my degree is criminal justice I don't think I'll be able to get the arch degree shortened lol but I'll look into it thanks for the tips!
Would you recommend going straight to a 5 yr arch program or go to community college first then tranfer? Not sure which way I want to go, most of the arch schools are private and the tuition is just too high. I'm thinking about USC and Cal poly slo, can you give me some advice on different schools?
I’m a senior in high school, last semester whewww, but I’m stuck between which career to pursue. I’ve always like architecture but I’m also intrigued by structural engineering. Both seem to be very time consuming, but I like to think I have good time management bc I hold a job and partake in the treacherous IB program. Your video really helped, thanks for the information 😀
I got a full tuition scholarship from the architecture school so I'm sort of stuck with this major if I want to afford school! I'm hoping I like it though
I'm really interested in going into Architecture, but I really want to have time for a social life instead of spending nights in the studio. I'm really nervous that I won't be able to finish modes/projects on time.

@@jeffreyharrisii8190 sorry again for the late reply. I actually halfway replied to you a few times but got caught up with something else. I would first suggest before you take this feild to know yourself. What are your priorities in life and do proper research in the universities you are applying and their course outline and if you would be able to manage or not. Architecture is a very demanding and stressful feild and it asks you to make a lot of sacrifices and i unfortunately i was in too deep before i realized that i am not suited towards its needs and demands. Also cold truth, just loving the courses and subjects aren't enough. You need to be quite skilled at them as well as per my experience because even if your teacher is generous enough to let you redo your assignments and such. You barely have time as it is to do so
Thanks for making this video! I love hearing from people who took architecture but weren't fully familiar with the field when they started, because I'm taking architecture more for what I can learn from it rather than pursuing a career in the field, and my lack of passion worries me. (But I do have a lot of determination and interest in learning so hopefully that'll make up for it) I have a question regarding the software, do universities require students to use specific ones? (Like how Adobe software is mandatory in art schools) Or is it up to the students? And if yes, do they offer student discounts? Asking cuz I'm tight on money and prefer not to invest before knowing if I can get a better deal!

Love your videos! Was just curious as a 3rd/4th year architecture student, do you have any advice for how to get internships, either through meeting with professors or with firms?
What school did you attend for your architecture course? I'm curious because I'm a senior in high school looking to apply to many colleges soon and I'm very worried about where I'm going to attend, assuming I get accepted :,)
about a month ago i had my first midterm presentation ever and i was really nervous because i thought my project was not so great cause we have alot of restrictions and i prepared it really well but the actuall input we got was garbage i know that probably applies not to everyone cause the professors basically said "that is a cool project but you should not think of it as a building" i have no idea what that was about i mean what else do architects do build buildings without thinking about buildings? really confusing then i continued working and changing aspects of my project and then they said that it is incredibly awesome but to this day i do not know why they think it is. (Probably having everything online since 1.5 years is a big part of the confusion)
Everyone seems to be nervous about being good at math. I am pretty good at math but I have no hand drawing experience. Is that something that should scare me or no? I am a photoshop artist so I use a drawing tablet and a pen often.
Hey, I just want to know if you need a lot to memorize!!! Like so many details and tons of poly copies to memorize and how many subjects there is in the first year?
After finishing university (bulding technology) I kept nagging my sister to Study architecture to start a family's farm and your vadio is one of two videos that I shared with her. she still in high school and in the current team school might stop for a year.
Hey I’m thinking of changing my major to architecture suddenly because it’s always caught my attention and honestly as lame as it may sound, my favorite part of The Sims is the building and I could spend hours and hours building! Also I appreciate cute built houses, idk.😂 but like you said people say “you gotta be good at math”, so my question is, is that true? What kind of math and how much is it involved? Also advice please:(
No, you don't have to be good at math to be an architect. It helps but architecture is more about design and coordination of elements that go into creating a building. So if anything , you want to be good at time management, good at dealing with criticism, be able to work under stress. But you don't have to be naturally good at those things. You'll learn like I did. Like most do. My advice is to research the career as much as you can before you jump in! There is lots to learn and UA-cam is full of info :)
I’m really into architecture and in my country , in high school you have to choose a stream to go into in your 4th year (my high school is 6yrs) so I’m definitely choosing industrial technology. I’ve actually been watching a lot of videos and I actually saw one say architecture are one of the hardest majors so I’m really excited to challenge myself in college but from now I’m a 14yr old in high school
Wish I had this video when I was applying to schools. I'm in my second year but technically its my first year in architecture because first year was "foundation year" (which was a waste of time). So I still get to do analog everything. I'm going to miss it. Also to update you about my final: the critics gave me really good advice but my teacher was really mean. He is just one of those teachers. It was one of my worse crits, definitely deserving of a good cry in the bathroom after. Yay architecture! At least it is over.
Mean crits are a part of life in this profession. Now teachers, later it will be mean bosses or clients. You'll get used to it, so much, some times you'll be the mean critic and won't even notice. It is what it is.
Sadia Naheen good point. I know it is also getting to me more because I was not as proud as I could have been with my work. Since it is my first semester working with the ideas of systems and programs... it took me longer than i would want to figure it all out.
@@sarahbrodbeck6444 In that case my advice (how ever unwarranted) would be, allow yourself the time and patience. If something takes more time for you to figure out, take that time. make concession some where else. The better you understand and figure out your programs, the easier it will get to experiment with forms and materials. And that figuring out will help you to push the boundaries more and exercise your ideas better. Also, take time to watch your classmates critics. you can learn a lot from those too.
Hey Sarah! as Sadia said, it's part of the career so don't worry about it. I'm glad you got some good advice from you crits though! Let's nail that next presentation! ✌💪
Sadia Naheen thank you for your advice i totally agree. I’m that kid that takes notes on everyone’s critique, i find it fun. my limits come when there is a shortage of time, which is what i think you are talking about in a way. When i procrastinate or don’t have much time i revert to my old ways instead of embracing this new process. in the upcoming semester I will for sure try to be more conscious of this. again thank you for your advice i always appreciate it!
I'm really bad at math but actually love architecture and art i study architecture and in really scared of the mathmatics we're going to be having in later classes i love designingmy own buildings an models too but this math thing really stresses me out...
hey, nice video. I don’t want a career in architecture but I am pretty interested in drawing and animation. And when I looked deep down in my favourite artists, I found they have learned architecture and which helps them in drawing backgrounds and stuff. is there any online courses where I can get required knowledge?
Hey Mooch! I love your videos on giving us the realities of architecture. I'm in the process of making my portfolio for applications. How was it for you when you were applying to schools?
That's awesome! I also had to do a portfolio. For my Associates I did not need a portfolio. I only needed one transferring to grad school. I Included all my projects from D1-D4. Luckily my D3 and D4 were very intense and I had so much work to show. I had a lot of work to choose form.
I've got an interview for architecture later today because I'm shortlisted. I'm fucking nervous as heck. I'm okay with math and drawings, but got nothing to prove them so I'm fucked- I am so nervous and I don't know what to do 😭😭😭
How long does it take to get through college as a architect and to get your license to be a architect because I’m very passionate about architecture but I just wanted to know how long everything would take because I really wanna design houses and do the floor plans.
Thanks for the great video! Do you think there’s a chance to do all this if you are choosing architecture as your second major? and you are married... and have three kids... 😬
Hey moose. Great work💙. I have a question. I was hoping to enter a university for a b arch but later I found out that the university I was going to join isn't accredited. There are only two universities in my country which are accredited. But my parents can't bare those course fees. So what happen if I pursure a non-acreddited degree? Should I go for it or just forget about architecture😕 Please tell me what happen if I got the degree from that non-accredited university?
It depends... It wasn't hard for me. All my friends from school were able to find jobs pretty quickly as well. It helps if you get along with your professors; they can refer you to firms as they did for me. Also, you should start interning as early as possible. Btw, as far as interning goes, it's okay if you do a short non-paid internship..... but try to always get compensated!

Yes! Anthropology will be a great base for some interesting projects in your future. Follow what inspires you!
Anthropology is important in architecture bur depending on where you live or plan to study they may not allow you to do masters in Arch if you do not have Bachelor degree in Architecture approved degrees due to all the technicals they teach during those 3 years.

Do they teach you how to use the software or are you expected to know it already when you come to classes where you use computers and software?
I'm hopefully gonna study architecture next year (still applying) and I'm a bit nervous about how expensive it could be because I have a pretty tight budget. Is there a way to keep a low budget or is the expensive part inevitable? I know I probably won't have time for a part time job but I wish I did sometimes.
This has been the best video about this subject. thank you so much.
Glad it was helpful!
Again such a awsome video from u. Actually im from germany and dont know how university works over here . But with your videos you inspired me to become an architect in a few years.
Thank you so much and great greetings from munich :)
Thanks! That's awesome! I would love to visit Munich someday. Have a good one!
Oooh, I'm thinking of going to Munich to study architecture. TUM right?
The BlueDodo right ;)
CruzVidz 👍
Let’s all hit that like button so that this gets into UA-cam recommendations
Ps: Mooch you are my inspiration
Thanks so much. That means a lot!
2nd week in and my mate's model got smashed by the teacher as well as getting his drawings ripped from the wall all because he had a square shape in his design (despite is overall non-quadrilateral overall design)
edit: we had design 2 times a week 9 am Mondays and Thursdays which we cycled through culture, urban and materials after the end of the month (so about 3 months in total).
Great Video! Whoever disliked this video is not an architect!
probably an engineer, they hate us😂
man don't worry had the same exact experience I mean for now working on the thesis project should be done in like a month and a half that aside despite the amount of hell I was given in arch school I would still choose it
😃🍺🍻
Hey Mooch you should start a discord server, that all of us can discuss about architecture-related subjects and get to know eachother :D
I've been thinking about that. Thanks for suggesting it again. Let me post a community post and get some feedback from everyone. Stay tuned!
@@Moochers Btw thank you for being so responsive, really appreciate everything you do for your community!
@@starmax1000 Ofcourse! It really is my pleasure to help out.
So I started a poll asking what everyone would think about opening up a discord server. We'll see what the results are soon!
starmax1000 👀
Omg this would be great!! I’m in architecture school and just my channel, would appreciate if you checked it out :D
Another architect youtuber! We are just starting out making content!
That's awesome!! Good luck 😃🍻
hi I'm utkarsh from india ,I am introvert person . I got nervous when spotlight is on me. I'm a overthinker. But i can not think when architecture design class or visual art. First week of architecture school is like . Change in life style, everything changed, 😢😢. But this video is help a lot.
This video actually helped inspire me. I'm currently in Engineering school, and I too am not very good at math. First thing in your video and I was like "you too!?" Lol
Haha! That's awesome. Glad it helped 🍻😃
@@Moochers from an Architecture point of view, how is it collaborating with Engineers during a project?
currently doing my thesis in architecture and i still cant generate a concept. that's the hardest step for me in design class. haha. on a brighter note, i loved theory and history classes.
Same
At my school there's typically around 200 freshmen that enter and apparently only 10 ish end up actually becoming licensed architects. It's a brutal world.
Great video. I like the way you paneled everything with the description. Make a blog on this. As a strip.
Thanks for the compliment :D Glad you liked it!
@@escadrilley I would just check where you are because full architecture degree can be sometimes 7 years long (UK).
make sure they transfer over before you take them
Would you recommend going straight to a 5 yr arch program or go to community college first then tranfer? Not sure which way I want to go, most of the arch schools are private and the tuition is just too high. I'm thinking about USC and Cal poly slo, can you give me some advice on different schools?
Great videos
One of the best video❤️❤️❤️🤩
You inspire me
Love you brother
Hey, Mooch, I would really like to know what other career paths can one pursue with an Architectural Degree?
I didn't know about a degree, but you can pursue animation
I'm really nervous that I won't be able to finish modes/projects on time.
me too i really dont want it to take my social life away completely
@@jades1087 Forget architecture school in the US then. It's the most time consuming intense thing you will ever experience and it's got to be that way because you're training your mind. Like med school.
A little late but if you are someone who wants to maintain a healthy outside life. I highly discourage you from taking architecture. I am a first year student and very honestly i regret my decision
@@2cool2btrue41 could you tell me more about your experience?
(But I do have a lot of determination and interest in learning so hopefully that'll make up for it)
I have a question regarding the software, do universities require students to use specific ones? (Like how Adobe software is mandatory in art schools) Or is it up to the students? And if yes, do they offer student discounts? Asking cuz I'm tight on money and prefer not to invest before knowing if I can get a better deal!
So much inspiring video....I always dream about becoming an architect since 8th grade and now I am here in 12th grade little afraid and excited about next new....your video made me little relax and keen interest in studing architecture ❤️ .....keep posting these amazing feeds😊😊
You're welcome! Glad it made you relax!
Love your videos! Was just curious as a 3rd/4th year architecture student, do you have any advice for how to get internships, either through meeting with professors or with firms?
Thanks! Yes, I'm working on a video on this very topic! Should be out in the next few weeks.
No worries! You have a good head start understanding digital art.
I already graduated to a different degree. Its too late to realise that I like to be architect. I am always curious the life of a architect student 😮
Thank you for this video 💛💐
I’m really into architecture and in my country , in high school you have to choose a stream to go into in your 4th year (my high school is 6yrs) so I’m definitely choosing industrial technology. I’ve actually been watching a lot of videos and I actually saw one say architecture are one of the hardest majors so I’m really excited to challenge myself in college but from now I’m a 14yr old in high school
Can you please make a video about much needed supplies for architects. And keep up the great work.
Hey! Could you elaborate on your suggestion? Do you mean for school? Or after graduation?
Mooch like what you use daily for sketching. Like what sketchbooks, markers, pens, and pencils do you use.
@@mandol7756 Gotcha. Great suggestion. Writing that topic down and I'll cover it soon. Thanks!
Thank you for this!! 💞
Can you tell us more architectural Web sites please
Thanks. That was very helpful
After two years Im here again, but this time as an architect student ahah
Wow, thats so cool
Lol wish I had watched this before I went to interior design school
My teacher didn’t snap a photo. But he did say that not even half of us would continue. I guess I’m the part of the less than half that’s continuing
Hey! Not that I know of... Sorry. If I find out, I'll let you know! You could try joining the Discord and asking there!
I had a lot of work to choose form.
hey man! great video. where do you study?
Subbed. Fellow FIU engineering student.
Really cool. Thanks!
Thanks it is a great help for me
I've got an interview for architecture later today because I'm shortlisted. I'm fucking nervous as heck. I'm okay with math and drawings, but got nothing to prove them so I'm fucked- I am so nervous and I don't know what to do 😭😭😭
Thank you soo much again. :)
My pleasure :D
How long does it take to get through college as a architect and to get your license to be a architect because I’m very passionate about architecture but I just wanted to know how long everything would take because I really wanna design houses and do the floor plans.
So in your history class did they teach about the ancient Freemasonic philosophy of immortality is being Built into the architecture?🤔
No
Heyy!! I’m really passionate about Architecture but I’m terrible at drawing 😂 would this affect me
Thanks for the great video!
Should I go for it or just forget about architecture😕 Please tell me what happen if I got the degree from that non-accredited university?
is it hard to find a job after school? im scared of being unemployed lol
Hi Mooch! I really hope you see this🤞🏼
I would love to know your opinion on graduation age and how relevant it is when it comes to find a job.
I’m currently a third year Graphic Design Major but next year i will be changing to arquitecture. I will be three years behind I’m currently 20 and I should be graduating at age 24 to 25 based on the program my university offers. Is it something I should worry about when it comes to job hunting in the field?
Btw I’ve really love your videos 👏🏼❤️
Hi,,I want your your opinion...
After some years I should choose for my school,I want to study architecture because iam very good at drawing, and a good student, and I like it...But my family is not in good financial condition... Should I choose architecture school, because
*all peoples tell me:*
ach school needs a lot of money ,you are not rich 😔
Should I choose it,is expensive? Please reply
What colleges can I become an architect from most of them say architectural engineer not an architect
Thanks for making this, I’m deciding what I wanna do in college next year and this gave me a lot better idea for what’s to come. What school did u go to?
Hey! Glad it helped. I went to FIU in South Florida
I am planning to go to an expensive university for it has the best architecture faculty in town, and i wanna do my best so i can get a scholarship every semester, What advice can you give to get straight A's so I can be a successful student and get scholarships
Don't architecture schools pay for materials and tools? Currently taking the 4+2 path. I am currently taking an architecture class in a liberal arts college and they pay for all our stuff, which is life-saving cause the prices...
Where did you go to college?
Hi mooch, I am in Garde 12 th and an architecture aspirant can u please suggest me some activities or work that I can do to explore architecture at this stage .
