It's just like being there! See you who can spot! Enjoy! - Наука та технологія
What a riot! Nice finally meeting you!
Same! Thanks for putting up with my crap! See ya next year!
@@BenHeckHacks Fun video! I'm sure you two could talk about that crawl space for days! 🤣
@@BenHeckHacks Did you guys share a room?
Hey this video is still monetized.... "nice!"
vintage computer fest midwest 2022 amirite
That horrible teletype was the "kitchen computer" device in Walter Cronkite documentary 2001 future homes. Funny to see how they see housewives cooking during loud hammering of that teletype near. Later they made a documentary "1999 AD" reusing same props and make future earlier by 2 years.
My favorite part was the teletype running BASIC. I programmed in a number guessing game, it had some odd/very old quirks such as requiring LET and not allowed THEN. I saved the paper tape to load in near year :)
Near year? Are you still drunk?
8 bit guy's vcfm video : "here's this, and this, and that, and this..."
Ben Heck's video : "PAAAAAARTYYYYYY!!!!"
Yeah pretty much.
Honestly this was the best coverage of such an event I've ever seen. You really know how to liven up the party Ben!
I love that they didn't get the Florida joke about the 'hanging chads'.
I think the kid who brought that teletype was 22 years old at most. Which is cool, that young people are into this!
3 minute basement waterproofing talk, featuring Adrian's Digital Basement, was my fav part :)
1st rule of talking to celebrities: ask them about things they DON'T usually get asked about.
Ben Heck is like the drunken uncle of the UA-camr area. Must be the Wisconsin water
Man, I live in Thailand, I would literally fly 12 hours on a plane to see Ben, 8 bit guy, Adrian, lgr and the rest. You guys are superstars to me.
A bunch of middle aged balding nerds talking old computers? Finally, a convention for me!
It's the Annual 40 something, balding man, high white sock wearing, convention!
I got the Florida hanging chads joke. Also... I visited. :-) Had a blast
THANK YOU FOR ADRESSING PLANETARY MOVEMENT IN REGARD TO TIME TRAVEL. I HAVE BEEN SAYING THIS FOR DECADES.
Yep. You'll end up in space, under the ocean, underground, inside the Sun or other equally bad places. The only concept that understood this and worked around it was the Tardis being a time and location transport. Everybody else time travels into deep space and dies. To be sure, The Doctor dies a lot too. But not because his/her vehicle materialized in the middle of a planet. Usually not.
For anyone wondering, the "Florida" joke on the teletype machine was related to the Bush / Gore election when there was a lot of issues with voting and wether holes were considered punched or not.
Duh 😂
Kids don't know what hanging Chad's are
I thank God that huckster Gore didn't become president. Him with his global warming grift.
@@kleptonikxiii5406 "Sure we do, bruh! That's when we commit a hate crime against a total Chad!" 🤙🧔🏼
😁
This was my first VCF, I loved it, and enjoyed meeting Ben and all the other youtubers. I had a great time, and definitely look forward to coming again. Also I saw Adrian and was unsure if it was him, so you aren't alone.
I’ll never make it to VCF, so this is the perfect surrogate experience.
Hanging chad jokes, this has it all!
Conversely, they managed to punch clear holes properly in ~1970 but we couldn't get it right in 2000?! WTF?
Everyone loves hanging out with Chad. He is the best.
@@RichardHartness Because Florida :)
This is a better crossover than Marvels movies!! :D
Great video as always Ben! Humor and energy are on point! I love getting to see these events first hand. I hope you do more like this when you get to go to other events. I'm always in sort of shocked when I see multiple youtube creators that I follow show up and interact in the same place. It is a weird feeling. I guess since everyone creates their sort of 'space' around them and you just cant imagine them in the 'wild' hanging out with other people lol. You get so used to creators just being the shows you watch and the personalities you like. You forget they are just nerds and fans of this stuff like you are and also just want to go out and have a good time with friends as you all seem to have been doing.
It's just so cool to see and I'm so happy for you all getting to go out, have fun, party, and share your love of tech. It would be a treat to join that sometime. I'd have this weird apprehension about approaching you all lol even though I know you are just nerds and not some stuck up celebrities. It would still be a weird feeling to meet any of you in person. A great time though. Also, Adrian is a treasure lol. He just comes off as the best bud to be hanging out with while surrounded by tech. Enjoys some drinks and can have a good laugh.
Guess who's back, back again?
Ben Heck's back, tell a friend!
I think it's hilarious that Ben gets more and more drunk as the video progresses. :D
Hey, I'm the guy at 37:41 and thanks for signing my computer!
No problem!
I was able to attend for the first time & got to see your panel & visit the booths. Great time!
Looks like fun... getting absolutely hammered whilst showing off cool old Computer systems... but its all about the beer!
Glad I found your channel! Good to see someone from my area with my interests doing UA-cam
Haha, i totally lost it at 7:25 ! Great video, thank you for uploading it.
Looking forward to that pinball project of yours! Those things can really eat up your time.
My own pinball project is ~6 years in the making, so yeah ... maybe i can play it when i retire in ~35 years?
If not, I will bequeath it to my grandchildren and it will become the new family heirloom for them to screw around with! :D
5:17 Thank you for the unexpected but unsurprising video evidence that these people were hell-bent on blocking foot traffic even during Friday setup.
Some kind of jam?
Malort, you're fighting your dad tonight
Those Adaptive Alpha displays are very nice; they were the industrial counterpart to the BetaBrite and made in many different sizes.
I'd like to see PETSCII Robots on some Soviet computers; the Vector-06C, the UKNC and the PK8010 "Korvet" would be good candidates.
Always good fun when true nerds converge! Thanks for the entertaining coverage. I will get to one of these one day.
thank you Ben for the awesome VCFMW video where we could see what was like being there! Really funny as well
Good video to watch, in preparation for going to an event like this. Thanks Ben! :)
Absolutely hecking hilarious ! You vintage tech folks in the states surely know how to party !!!
I love how the vending machines all display the words "Healthy Vending" and show pictures on the machine of fresh fruit, but are all loaded with chips and sodas. That's like going to a bar with a sign that reads "Top Shelf Drinking" adorned with pictures of Yeungling and Glen Livet, but only sells Naddy Ice and Malort.
This video kicks ass. 😃
The Carmen Sandiego bit was amazing
if not going on a bit too long lol
@@MagicPlants Hey its not my fault the song has an usually large number of verses!
Agreed
Soooo…this was informative. Cool to see folks doing their thing. Thanks for sharing!
Ahhh! Ben is back in action! 👍👍👍
I really enjoyed this video Ben, I defo got a real flavour for the weekend. Looks like you had a great time too!🍻 Hello from a fan in Ireland.
This is great stuff, Ben. Loved the "hanging chad" reference. Laughed out loud.
Damn Ben, you held on to that AIIIIIDDSSS longer than Magic Johnson. Sorry I became the Spotted Cow moooocher, but it was sooo good. Can't wait to come back and buy you a 12 pack.
Haha no worries! That's why I brought it.
Dam, you guys know how to party, computers, beer, soldering and shots. 🤣🤣
A little Joy Division - She's Lost Control @ 13:39 hah. Thanks for the video!
I hope that's what they were trying to play. Because that is what it sounded like. Not quite Peter Hook though.
Made me nostalgic for Sonic Boom Podcast...Thanks Ben!
Every year I want to go to this, and every year I forget it exists until I see a video a week after it's over.
Looks like so much fun, I have to try and make it next time!
Oh my gawd, you totally ambushed Joe Burks and I love it. That was so awesome. Also "Do you luv beer?" Might be my favorite question of the video.
Sharp 68K is that old computer that looks permanently from the future, seriously that design... it's confusingly modern in every way.
Drunk Ben is the best Ben
That teletype program writing section was so cool.
There is so much more drinking than I would have imagined
Engineers and pilots are some of the biggest drunks there are :)
Ben. Thank you SOOOO MUCH! This is the best, most meta, most Ben video ever made! I love it!
Zero production values = max authenticity.
This video is probably the best alternative to actually going, if not better. :)
You talked about Baudot code! I can't believe it. I thought I was the last person on the earth that knew anything about it. Great vid!
Awesome to see both you and Adrian + gang having fun. I'm going to have to try to visit more events here in Europe, in the future.
Adrian and I got along well since he was the only other UA-camr who appeared to drink remotely as much as I do :)
Haha that's how you do it. I wanna gonna go next year and get drunk with my fave youtubers. I especially loved how you got incredible insights into Adrian's digital basement's basement. 😂
Felt like I was there with your coverage Ben, cheers!
Looks like fun. I used to love going to Hamfests with my Dad. May he rest in peace.
This brought the feeling of watching any homemade VHS back then. Very nostalgic! The tune played at 13:39 is 'She Lost Control' by Joy Division.
i love watching you guys get shit faced and shoot the shit about old pc and electronics. This is a good time.
That confirms my suspicion that Adrian is the John Wayne Gacy of retro gear. Just rottin’ in his crawl space.
He’s second channel is vintage clown gear. Allegedly 😂
Why do I feel like Ben could out drink every single person there? Also, I totally missed this video, but at least I have something to watch while waiting for our town to be repaired after Ian. It'll only take them 6 or 7 years to rebuild, so Ben you'll have to step up your video making game for my entertainment, lol.
Because I probably could?
It's like having a drunk Uncle who goes to cool places...
i finally remember ben, after watching the 8-bit guy's recent upload, as a small kid i used to watch the ben heck show, now i found your channel and subscribed as fast as i can.
Yeah its crazy I'm been doing this for 22 years now.
Loved seeing this. Thanks, Ben!
Watched the direct and state of play. Best thing I watched today was Ben sing Carmen Sandiego in front of an LGR poster. Man. I gotta make it to this show next year.
The nerds were jealous because Ben got all the chicks.
Ben has that animal magnetism. Or perhaps just the aroma?
Having a table next to my favourite UA-camr, LGR, lucky you! #greetings
Haha Malort was described to me as "the essence of Chicago city street water distilled with Midwesterner chill". It doesn't disappoint.
Notice Ben's high pressure sales tactics, steering me towards the Warped Speed @26:35 by implying scarcity... but not warning me to drink it slowly. I will have my revenge, Ben!
Hey, it got the job done didn't it? :)
@@BenHeckHacks yes, many jobs got done that evening. At least half of which I cannot remember. I do remember that it was the best beer that I think I had ever tasted out of a can. I didn't want to walk into the next talk carrying a can of beer and I definitely wasn't going to pour it out... Your plan all along, no doubt 🧐
@@JoeBurks_1 I enjoyed discussing the timing issues of the Commander X16 with you in excruciating detail (wasn't in the video) Not sure if you know this but I've built many 8 bit systems from scratch myself. Years ago I advised David the CX16 wasn't possible without FPGA.
@@BenHeckHacks I've followed you on UA-cam for years. The giant Game Boy hack from your E14 days inspired me to add FPGAs to my parts bin at home and work them into my personal projects. The bug fixes I've done to the VERA design over the last 6 months are a direct result of that video -- including the work-around I made this past Monday that corrected the VERA timing issue which prevented the X16 from booting with a 65816. Your X16 contributions are greater than just that bit advice from years ago!
6.9 ABV isn't even strong. It's about twice as strong as lagers but there's far stronger out there. Beers to look out for Samichlaus Christmas beer, EKU Kulminator 28s, Dogfish 120 IPA Those are all double digit beers. Clocking in at 11-20% ABV they'll tighten you up.
I don't often drink beer, but when I do, I can't find any Yuengling. This video almost makes me miss going to cons on the weekends.
you're awesome Ben. please don't ever change.
Yuengling beer is brewed in Pottsville PA, about 20 miles from my home.
It's the oldest brewery in America! Mostly because Wisconsin wasn't a state yet :)
@@BenHeckHacks my grandfather always referred to Yuengling as, "Cat piss". Back in the day when it was $4 a case my friends and I used to drink the Black and Tans though.
I LOVE that banner dude! LOL! "has-been" 😆 -Yuengling fan.
I went to a wedding in Ohio last week and drank MANY Yuengling :)
I'm 37 and my dad just turned 101 in August. He was in WW2 as well. I'm blessed that he's still with us. Have a good day everyone :)
So your dad had you when he was 64? Yeah im not sure im buying that!
@@NathanChisholm041 1921. It's okay. I'm used to the disbelievers.
Big fan of your work with Imhotep’s priests. That shaky cam while talking with the guy with the Sharp computer was vomit inducing 😂
It's like I was there myself! Funny video!
I was just thinking "What the Heckin Heck happened to Heck." Checked his channel and yo, new video
I've started a new long-term pinball programming project so yeah, less time for videos. Also microcontroller shortage is depressing and makes me wanna hack less :(
@@BenHeckHacks Is this going to be for a purchasable machine? I recall you mentioning it in another video, but don't remember if there were any other details. This shortage is just killing a lot of ambition. I've seen others talking about not being able to get a laundry list of usually common parts.
@@BenHeckHacks You should go hunt for those in electronic junkyards or something! That could be fun! Of course it would be more fun if you lived in Australia, apparently, but still.
And what's that pinball you've been working on? Is that just a new version of your board or are you working on a specific machine? Tell us about it!
@@caodesignworks2407 Yes it will probably be revealed next October.
Always seems like a blast when Ben is around at a convention!
The meter on the 'free' table is a special purpose one; it is both a multimeter and a dwell-tach. It was marked by MAC Tools.
Adrian and David did a great job putting up with your crap 🤣
Thats what I thought !!!!
They knew they were being recorded.
I like watching your UA-cam channel and LGR channel you two have a lot of interesting things you show on your channels.
I read Midwest as Midget in the title, never been so disappointed in my life.
I'm probably never going to Chicago, by choice. I enjoyed this. Thanks for sharing.
I don't blame you. Maybe it's because I've had to drive through it many, many times but Chicago is my least favorite major American city.
Dude, I wish I know when this was happening! Hope you enjoyed your time in Chicago!
Love the confessions of Adrian's digital crawlspace
We used to just call that a Computer Show. I miss those.
Back when all of that was new. Now they're vintage and antique computers.
Yuengling was always my goto beer. Good stuff!
I don't know if this was a computer festival or a beer festival. Jk lol definitely a good video.
Was good to see you there! Thanks for chatting and hopefully looking at my stupid JVC Videosphere at some point.
Ha! Saw myself at 27:07
I have your email, will catch up on those later this week. Could be cool!
I was at the panel, watching you take that first shot of mallort otherwise known as sweaty gym sock. Then to see you mix it with diet pepsi, had me rolling.
Everyone knows that Coke mixes better. So uncouth.
We need a Red Letter Media / Ben Heck Crossover.
You had some volume in your hair bitd, a bit Astley, a bit Flock of Seagulls. Surprised about The Munsters movie, the Wayans had an option for it for a while so it's just amazing it could get it out of development hell even if it didn't turn out well.
Pretty sweet Teletype gaming, fun to see how that worked, saved a lot of paper adopting screens heh. :D Lol appreciate the NordVPN sponsorship, it's a world wide web Netflix/NBC/others as that is the point of the thing jsyk.
I'd love to go to VCF with Ben. He could be the fun drunken uncle I never had.
That core memory magnet thing at 43:16 is really cool!
I thought the day would never come!
Was great to see you there!
Hanging Chad joke FTW. lol
The Dangling Chads are an inconvenient truth of the times.
Wow Taylor and Amy chilling with Adrian.
Hell yeah. BFFs!
Finally, someone told the whole truth about NordVPN
good to see another video! please do some hacks videos soon!!!
