You need a boat magnet….just in case anything falls in the cut….always handy if the windlass takes a swim….if you have a aluminium one put 2 jubilee clips near the head of the windlass….you can still recover it with the magnet

The knot at 5:22 is a lighterman's hitch / tugboat hitch. It's a great knot! Great to see you cruising.
It is a great knot used it when on a narrowboat last year
Really handy and easy enough to un-do when you need to get going!

Hi Danny Jo ,I bet you are so happy that you got to the Marina with no problems,I noticed you had problems getting it into gear first time you left the towpath I think you morse control is not set up right there can be so awkward to get them cables to run freely maybe a new one wold not go a miss ,I can’t understand your gearbox it’s impossible to fix itself it’s got to be something,but it worked absolutely great when on the way ,I’m so happy for the both of you must be relieved now go and enjoy you great trip to the USA you have both earned it ,till next time take care keep safe, John 🌹🐣❤️🤩👀🏆🥇🥀🥸😎🥳
There is slack in the controls but even when disconnecting them completely and selecting manually from the box itself it still doesn't engage when cold. Thanks John!
@@DanniandJoe I know you are not stupid but has it got the right oil in the gearbox ,I ask this because you already had it overhauled that was not cheap I know,now stop worrying about your boat and enjoy a well earned holiday both of you

@@catherineatkins7908 we had flights to Toronto back in 2020 and planned to explore the East of Canada. It is definitely on our list but we don’t want to rush it (we had two weeks booked)
@@DanniandJoe The Maritime provinces are stunningly beautiful. Must sees are the Cabot Trail on Cape Breton and The Bay of Fundy (with, I believe, the highest tides in the world). Also the Flower Pots are really cool. Spent most of my summers growing up down east.
I noticed something that may be nothing, but worth a look when you have time. The cables coming from the Control Lever seem to have a lot of play, I have had issue on several machines through the years where that caused the gears to not fully engage all the time. Sometimes there would be no issues, then the next time I used it seemed like the gear box was just wasted. Just a thought...... Safe journeys!
We’re hoping to replace all the cables (potentially even replace the controls themselves as rather worn), definitely a chance it’s having an affect, also quite hard to change engine speed accurately

I am a liveaboard and also on the K&A, in fact only a few hours cruise from where you were and are now. \i had no idea you were so close. There are a few of us on this stretch of canal, yoursleves, me and another notable UA-camr (Katie and Andy) DinoGirl's Narrowboat Adventures. If you ever venture down as far as Trowbridge and would like to stop in for a coffee at some stage, give me a shout. Cheers, Peter.
Ahh thanks Peter! We were based between BoA/Trowbridge/Semington/Avoncliff for the majority of the build! Will give you a shout when we’re back and cruising past! We’ve met Katie and Andy funnily enough they were lovely!
