- In this video, I attempt to beat a Pokemon Hardcore Nuzlocke challenge in Platinum using only Bug types!
I streamed this live on Twitch, so if you want to contribute to future videos, come check me out!!
/ docznick
Nuzlocke Ruleset:
1. If a Pokémon faints, then it must be permanently boxed.
2. I can only catch the first encounter on each Route.
3. No bag items in battle, except for pokéballs. (Held items are allowed)
4. Must be played on "Set" battle mode.
5. Cannot level over the next gym leader/elite 4's highest level pokémon.
Leave a comment if you think I could have done something better, or if you have an idea of what future challenges I should do.

Same
I’ve noticed that a lot more Pokémon nuzlocke players are coming out of the woods. I was never really a true fan but over time it’s gotten to be something I enjoy regularly
@@bloodslayer57 same
This trend soon gonna die just like salt showdown videos
when you ask what the worst type is you'll hear the same answer
*ice*
Ice used to have more merit as the sole counter to Dragons, until Fairy showed up and beat Ice at its own niche. It desperately needs buffs especially on the defensive side
@@josefarias5216 fr, i think it should resist at least water and maybe grass or flying
ice is fantastic offensively, but its defensively where ice falls flat
The best thing about ice is Ice Beam coverage. Having ice as secondary type is just suffering tho
It also doesn’t help that hail is objectively the worst weather, with pretty bad setters, not good abusers and few good strats besides ice body stall or blizzard spam
I really like mono type nuzlockes, i’m nowhere near skilled enough to do em but love watching them
You know the trainer is skilled when the support pokemon turns to be the mvp.
Well played the whole run of course but what you did with wormadam set ups was really awesome to watch.
I agree, when challenges become tough, you are forced to look at all your resources.
People: *bugs are weak!*
Me completing sword with only bugs: *are you challenging me?*
My first playthrough of sword was with just bugs! Ended with Durant, galvantula, golisopod, centiskorch, frosmoth and shedinja lol
Same here, i always wanted to try a gym leader challange playthrough. I thought it over. And picked bug because 1. Its easily a top fav pokemon type. "Dragon and bug honestly share first." 2. This is just my opinion, but bug has by far some of the greatest second typings. And in sword bug types are common and they have a good few spare types. Bug/psychic, Bug/fire Bug/water bug/electric. Bug/fairy. All of them great choices for a team.
And Shadow Ash Gamer, may I ask what your team was in your challenge. My team was. Centiskorch, Araquanid,Orbeetle,Vikavolt,Galvantula,Ribombee
My team was orbeetle vespiqueen vikavolt golisopod shedinja and centiskorch
And frosmoth before replacing it with shedinja
So no trades. Meaning no evolving Scyther.
*Puts Scizor in the thumbnail anyways.
Did anyone else see that the Beautifly was dead before he challenged Wake or am I seeing things?
Your right. That was actually a previous run that died to Cyrus. I just didn't have footage of me navigating though the gym so I used a previous run. If you look at the point when I walk up and talk to wake, the team changes to Yanmega first.
What happend to beautifly when u picked up the earthquake tm?
And heracros hanging on for dear life xD
The last attempt, I sped through the game on like 4x speed, so the animation for earthquake lasted for half a second. I actually went through the second attemp solely focused on like navigation since it died to Barry at Jubilife.
I DID
Most people cheat and cheese these challenges
9:48 Syther: so any way I started attacting with my wings...

Love this run! The commentary was straightforward and informative, without being overbearing or quirky like some other channels. Great work! I'd love to see this channel do more runs 💪💪🔥
Really great video on my favorite pokemon game of all time. I enjoy that you always put the fitting music in fights :)
I was just thinking about this last night and realized that Roark is actually entirely feasible if you’re able to get a Wurmple from Route 204 that evolves in Beautifly. But even then, Dustox still works. Great video!
I absolutely loved this video!! Keep making content like this!!
I honestly like the bug type thank you for giving it some love. You deserve more subs
Never would've thought this was possible. Great work!
yanmega is incredible in my platinum playthrough, it carried me through alot of battles with tinted lens
This one had Speed Boost, but I really like Tinted Lens as well. Abilities that affect the type chart are usually quite good for Nuzlockes.
A Scyther named Cello...a cool instrument for a cool Pokémon!
Thank you for this amazing video, I love your nuzlockes❤️
so many underrated content creators. Earned a sub
Yooo my favorite type, always love seeing bug playthroughs
I'm seeing more and more people doing pokemon challenges, which is cool. And you chose my favorite type to do a hardcore nuzlocke! Immediate subscribe!!!
Quite an exciting run! Although Roark's Geodude did -- sorta land his rock throw LOL
16:19 To think Volkner has been depressed for having no tough challengers...
What a nice run! Subscribed!
Most underrated nuzlocke so far.
DUDE NO WAY, THAT WAS AWESOME MAN!
thank you for making this bug type is actually my favorite typing
Loved the run!
If I may offer a suggestion for any future runs, though- when it comes to the team preview, the icon for Scyther feels very out of place, since it has both a different style and size. It's the only one with a modern, 3D aesthetic, and is double the size of the rest of the team, so it's pretty attention grabbing.
It really is attention-grabbing. I just couldn't focus on the video at all after I noticed it
Hell yeah dude this was sick
congrats on 2k subs!!!
Love your vids!
I like to think that Pinsir Heracross and Scissor are the Pokemon Pillarmen (Scissor is Kars, obviously)
I would agree. Though Pinsir was a no show
AWAKEN, MY SWOLESTERS!
Ayayayay!!!!🎵🎶🎵🎵🎶🎵🎶
Scyther is Kars, it got Blade Arms
AYAYAYAA
This video was really good and entertaining!! I'm actually surprised you only have 8 subscribers, you should have way more. The narration was really good and I loved the challenge overall, it's interesting to watch nuzlockes that actually make you wonder if it will be possible to beat the game. Keep up the great work!! :D
He's sitting at 112 - no wait, hold on... 113 subs now.
Congratulations Kira you are the first comment
Thank you to nuzlockes for invigorating our collective love for Pokémon
10k baby, oooh yeah, gpod job!
I love Pokemon challenges I'm a new subscriber btw
This is like FlygonHG's videos. Very entertaining +1 sub
congrats on 5k!
Beautiful challenge. Would be awesome to see a Hardcore Nozlocke with only physics in platinum
Ah yes physics
@@wakayaka3757 xddddd I just realized hahahhaahahaha
Great video, at 8:27 scythers flying bug called for the rockslide, should've moved to wormadam and then to beautifly to bait a ground move and then beautifully would've been immune
Really interesting abd exiting video by the quality I wouldh imagine this was coming from a channel whit at least 100 thousand subs but apparently not anyway you have gained a sub.
DocZ: 'if you ask what the worst typing is you'll hear the same answers
Me: 'Ice'
DocZ: 'Bug'
Ice is great man, one of my favorite pokemon is a lapras
I like Lapras too, but ice is the worst typing. It has only one resistance in itself, and so many weaknesses. Offensively it's pretty good, but a lot of pokemon learn ice beam and it's better to have a non ice type use it and not get stab, than use an ice type for stab.
Fair point, but being able to kill dragon type is always good
Ome of the best ever hardcore nuzlockes I have ever seen
Absolutely, great ability, no wasted stats, based design
This was great!
Sad thing, my favorite Pokemon is heracross... But this, this puts a smile on my face, thanks for this amazing video
damn homie your team was honestly much better than i thought it could be
Same homie, I didn't even know Heracross and Scyther were in the game
Real ones know bugs a top tier type
Appreciate your flexing with them doc
6:32 if you're in range of every attacking move the opposing AI has, but they have a priority move, that's the one they're guaranteed to use actually. So you had a really safe switch on the guaranteed mach punch :)
Interesting, I never knew that was how it works. I just thought the Ai goes for whatever kills.
nice content, keep up the good work :)
This was very pleasing to watch! I think you realized the technical aspects really well (layout, voice over, etc.). I also really enjoyed you sharing your thoughts and motivations behind this challenge.
However, do you think this would be possible without EVs?
Possible? Yes. Difficult? Absolutely. The speed and attack on my heracross were the only thing that got me through Flint. Some other instruments were faster but can't deal enough damage. You probably could make it past flint if you got a Power Gem Vespiquen.
@@DocZ sounds reasonable 🤔 but getting Heracross and a female Combee and also dodging crits seems to me like a run in which you spent most of the time praying...
That was a very DEDEDEDEDEWOOOP run. :D
So underrated
This channel boutta blow up
I was gonna say...
@LEGO Boy and now 800
This channel has some potential
It is sad to see people are accusing one mistake? they suspected, leaving behind to praise this knowledge and work behind it. I just finished platinun today again after so many years. Super work.
Thanks, but a mistake is a mistake. Although I never said this was a 1 attempt run like my other challenges, the way I presented it seems very suspicious.
I am so impressed right now
When I found your channel, it was a I came for copper but found gold moment

I loved the Bug Orchestra. Sadly enough, the instrument that i play was the first to die.
Oddly enough, I play the oboe, but most people dont even know what that is.
@@DocZ Rly? That's so cool!
@@DocZ I’m nick and I played the tuba for 9 years
Even when not evolving it, Scyther with Technician is a powerful Pokemon in the Gen 4 games. Flying is a strong type offensively and you can get Brick Break or something like that for Steels. Used one in my Platinum playthrough and it served me well.
My favorite pokemon is a bug type. Well bug/grass. This causes for a lot of weaknesses but I still love leavanny. It can be a good sweeper with sunny days and swords dance
whats the target FPS and sound enabled thingy coming in and out the screen every now and again? Kinda distracting, besides that. Great video!
I like how in the thumbnail it shows Scizor, but he can't use Scizor in the video because of trade evolution
What are your thoughts of hacking in held items from wild pokemon before you have Thief? Normally I play on cartridge and I allow myself to get the item, but release every single catch after I check for the item. The way I see it, since you're immediately releasing it, it isn't a big enough violation of the rules
Wow I never thought Bug pokemon could be so strong!
The funny thing is I always say flying mainly due to the fact of basically if you add it to any typing it could easily expose major weaknesses and plus try and name a non legendary flying type that was in Uber's that includes mythicals and Ultra beasts
Gale Wings TFlame pre-nerf
Crazy how he can do this easily while I can just barely pull off a regular plat nuzlocke with a really good team with strong coverage lol!
I'm actually doing the exact same challenge in Pokemon Platinum rn and I was wondering how Wormadam and Kricketune already got the moves X-Scissor and Psybeam, before they can actually learn them. Is there something I missed? 🤔
“Since I’ll be playing without trades, I’ll keep Scyther as a Scyther”
*puts Scizor in the thumbnail*
gotta clickbait somehow
@@DocZ ahaha fairs
Great video
You could have caught a wurmple north of jubilife city, my dude 😭 I'm also doing a hardcore buglocke, got a wurmple there so I had a beautifly to sweep roark
Bug is my favourite type I love scizor and Yanmefa I can’t wait for diamond+ pearl remakes so I can finally use these awesome mons 🤩🤩🤩
You should try a Grass only Platinum run. I tried and... good luck. It's the hardest mono challenge imo. Cyrus and Flint will hard counter you!
I will keep this in mind.
Just something I was thinking about. Kricketot only knows growl and bide until it evolves. How did you train it in the early routes? Did you just waste pp until you evolved? If you did, HOLY you have a lot of patience to do that. Good video btw👍
You just use bide against level 2 starlys first because they're easier to take out than bidoof, then as you gain levels you just use bide against bidoofs too. It's so much work though, literally have to heal after every fight
Salute for the bugs
Bug and Normal are my favorite Pokemon Type
Not to be one of those commenters but when he got earthquake his beautifly was fainted on the poketech
"When you ask people what the worst type is, you'll likely hear the same answer..."
Rock!
"Bug."
Damn it.
Him: no matter how hard you make the challenge volkner will always be easy
Me: Ok pokemon platinum with only resisted moves
Hoping that this blows up
Me too, me too...
Gen5: bugs good now
Wait camt you get a wurmple at a 10% chance on the route North of jubilife on platinum? I know you can't on diamond but I thought in platinum you could? It would've been nice to have a second bug earlier on, but maybe I'm wrong 😅 but love the video for sure!
You can! My research betrayed me.
How many attempts did it take to beat roark? At 2:45 geodude hits a rock throw and then it just disappears like it never happened lol
I love the bug type, although the type itself isn't that strong, mixed with other types can help with the weakness
.... How did u make easier that it seem ?! 😕 I ... Speechless
I'd say the worst type is ice. It has so few resistances and a lot of weaknesses
Welcome to Fact or Cap where I (will soon) test whether or not Ice is weaker than Bug.
Ice rock and grass all weaker than bug
@@hunbi1875 nope GRASS MORE SUPERIOR THAN BUG!!!
Scyther and Heracross are goated
that heracross at the end WTF!!!
Man caught a combee and never used it lol
adamant perfect attack IV kricketot as a first encounter is pretty wild
Yeah but the rest were pretty sheet
@@DocZ facts, just glad you had the raw stats to Fury Cutter through the first gym. I think Cranidos was a range with lower IVs and an unfavorable (maybe even neutral, would have to calc) nature.
Delelelele WHOOOP
More of the og ("vanilla") games and less of rom hacks please. Enjoyed this video. I personally don't like rom hacks at all. I think most people would prefer to see the og's over rom hacks but if you enjoy playing the rom hacks more, then cool. All the best with your channel. Hoping to watch more quality content like this.
Interesting. Even though I know viewers enjoy these Vanilla games more than the rom hacks, I think I will continue doing rom hacks. Not to say that monotype runs aren't fun, it's just that rom hacks are more of my "style" of fun. I enjoy difficult challenges when the puzzles presented are increased in difficulty, not when my tools available have been restricted. Of course, I will continue to do the Monotype nuzlockes, but it won't stop me from doing rom hacks.
@@DocZ try emerald kaizo i normally don’t like rom hack but it’s close to the original enough
Be honest , this run was Only Heracross and Scyther 😅
And yanmega
Wtf your talking about, wormadam and yammega were important too.
The first monotype challenge i did was bug i sapphire. It didnt go well lol.
The species clause also affects Wormadam and Mothim.
Sandy Burmy probably would’ve been better as it is able to learn rock moves and has good def you can ev train for special def and there is your flying counter. Fire types are still an issue but again the ground typing helps with the fire problem.
I just realized... the commanders ace pokemon always just have one weakness.
Purrugly - fighting
Skunktank - ground
Bronzong - fire (through ability levitate)
This will change in the remakes for bronzor though, getting ghost and dark weakness :/
but Saturn’s ace is Toxicroak, not Bronzong
@@shron7813 damn, youre right.
PURUGLY IS NOT SPELLED WITH 2 R'S! SKUNTANK IS NOT SPELLED WITH 3 K'S!
@@Amelia4111 COMMENTS SHOULDNT BE WRITTEN IN CAPS!
@@grundgutigertv6170 Yes they should
how did you level up kricketot if it only knows bide?
Wait a minute you can get wurmple in route 204 in (platinum only) and it has 10% find rate except if its night time because you can't find it so yeah you can have your second bug type before the 1st gym but yeah everything but that great vid
You can! My research betrayed me.
we all know comboee was the real GOAT of this run.
COMBEE IS NOT SPELLED WIRH 2 O'S!
Whats with the cut at 13:34 looks kinda fishy to me how do they heal without recover or wish or anything but with that said keep up the grind man
Previous run that died, I needed the video of me navgating. Next time I will try to incorporate previous deaths so there isnt confusion.
