- In this video, I attempt to beat a Pokemon Hardcore Nuzlocke challenge in Platinum using only Grass types.

Nuzlocke Ruleset:
1. If a Pokémon faints, then it must be permanently boxed.
2. I can only catch the first encounter on each Route.
3. No bag items in battle, except for pokéballs. (Held items are allowed)
4. Must be played on "Set" battle mode.
5. Cannot level over the next gym leader/elite 4's highest level pokémon.

Just wanted to add this comment to fix a mistake that I made in the past. This video was a misleading and omitted a key element to the nuzlocke. When this Nuzlocke was first streamed, unlike today where I do not permit the use of EVs, I allowed myself to freely switch around the EVs of my Pokemon. This doesn't really affect anything past the midgame since EV reducing berries are available and I can feasibly grind EVs, but this does change the difficulty of the early game. Where I made my mistake was when I simply gave my Pkmn EVs at the start of the Nuzlocke. If I recall, i discussed this with viewers who were watching at the time and collectively agreed that since grass types only would be a challenge, granting the starting few Pkmn with EVs was allowed to make the challenge move along faster. But this is something that I failed to mention in the video. This was a mistake on my part, and I want be clear about how the Nuzlocke was carried out. There was no intention to cheat since at the time when this was streamed, I still considered having EVs and switching around my EVs to be fair game, but giving EVs to my pokemon at the beginning of a run is definitely over-powered in hindsight. Just wanted to clear up a mistake I made and be a better person.

I’ve done one before. Lost in 2nd gym. Gave up
Well normally a grass/water gym happens pretty soon off the bat and some games you don’t get it until after like 3rd gym (b2w2)
Also the ones you get mid early game are rock ground so you die to the grass water even with stratagy
@@mightymate I once did one in vanilla Platinum, but with trade evos disabled so that I could have Golem and Rhyperior. I really loved it.

The damage calculations for Solarbeam were probably affected by hail. Solarbeam will have its power halved if used during Hail or Sandstorm

This man did the whole run until Cynthia deathless. This proves truly how ridiculously easy vanilla games are. If you want a show of his intelligence, his runs of Blaze Black (both 1 and 2) show truly how smart be is because those games actually have some difficulty to them

A Grass only Platinum challenge is among the hardest in the game; tbh, he did get a bit lucky here lol. Renegade Platinum is also a great challenge to attempt; I'd love to see it.

@@djdrizzy9139 He rarely got lucky. Even monolockes aren't difficult if you're just smart. Sure, some luck played into the run being deathless until Cynthia, but very little. Grass only may be one of the not as easy monolockes, but it definitely isn't hard.

I was playing Renegade platinum right now and my leafeon sweapt 6 main boss battles TODAY not counting from I started the game

@@michaelbainbridge7335 It's possible Renegade Platinum may have changed Leafeon's moveset to have it learn Leaf Blade (or heck, even Seed Bomb for that matter) at an actually reasonable level.
Milotic most likely had the "Marvel Scale" ability which doubles the pokemons physical defense when they are affected by a status condition.
Dude that would be incredible on someone like Snorlax!
20:29 if you're wondering what happened here, all weather conditions except Sun halve the damage of Solar Beam and Solar Blade.
I think with the Tangrowth vs Milotic, putting the Milotic to sleep activated marvel scale which is probably why Tangrowth did less than you calculated

I did that challenge too a few months ago! It made me realize how little reliable grass types were actually in the game and the first Cyrus fight was a huge roadblock because of Sneazel. Same applied to Candice and Flint, but I pulled through ^^

Its insane how grass types are considered to be bad in play through or nuzlocke, but its broken in VGC competitive especially in Gen 8.

Grass is my fav type, I’ve never done a monotype nuzlocke but I always choose the grass starter in my hardcore nuzlockes and have so much fun using them in any challenges I’ve done
That last fakeout at the very tail end of the Cynthia fight, chef kiss.
I love how there’s a lot of up-and-coming UA-camrs doing hardcore nuzlockes of Pokémon games. For your next, I suggest attempting Kalos with only Psychic Types, or Alola with just Electric types. But I’ve seen very few hardcore runs of the 3DS titles (the ones I genuinely enjoyed the most while playing) so I’d take any run of Gen 6 or 7.

Second time I’ve seen a nuzlocke where Wormadam is legitimately used. 😂
The reason solar beam did so little damage was because solar beam’s base power actually gets halved when under other weathers. Because of the snow warning, your solar beam had a base power of 60 instead of the usual 120

Well you used solar beam in hail and fyi solar beam in hail/sandstorm deals reduced damage so your calcs weren't wrong but you just forgot to add hail into your calcs
I tried doing a Nuzlocke mono grass of platinum myself. The biggest roadblock was the first Jupiter fight. Zubat and Skuntank’s speed and crits make it almost impossible to beat unless the AI is dumb and goes for poison gas. I had to restart the run six times because of her.

Well, there's a problem with that. The first available ice types in DPP are on Route 217. And for Eevee to evolve into Glaceon, you'd have to make your way to the Ice Rock to begin with.

I tried this challenge and I thought getting pass Cyrus and Flint alive was nearly impossible. Turns out I needed to level up a bit more, invest in speed IVs, and adjust some of my moveset. My go-to strategies were Roserade stun spore+Torterra curse sweep (early to mid game), and Stun spore to Growl Leafeon. Also, I didn't go for a Cherubi, but that Sunny Day-leech seed set up looks useful. I suppose I'll give this challenge another try soon; no deaths!

Roserade is a monster Grass type! It's fast and hits super hard with tons of coverage moves.
