- The Östergötland has a poor health pool, slow speed, questionable concealment and no smoke. Yet the DPM, narrow fast torpedoes, great AA and heal make up for these weaknesses. Not necessarily an easy DD to play, but quite powerful in the right hands. My build can be found at the end as usual.

Hey Flamu, I just thought I’d point out how these DDs are too strong.
The absurdly high speed of the torpedoes, and their quick torpedo reload essentially deletes any reason to play the specialized torpedo boats, and hear me out. The shimakaze, Gearing, Somers, and any other DD you’d like to use torps with are just simply outclassed by the mid 1950s torpedoes. You have to lead less, you have less reaction time, and quick reload. This means you can essentially force them to flood/ eat torp spam.
As for the stealth, it has very similar stealth to shimakaze @ only -0.6 km compared to shima. As for airplanes, it’s air stealth and ability to delete your aircraft means that CVs will likely try to avoid you, even if they are a good CVs they will lose too many planes to be effective against you.
Another issue I have is that I’ve seen a Östergötland be able to outgun a flipping Kitakaze. The selling point the gunboat Japanese DDs is also now obsolete to the Swedish DD line.
Couple these together and you essentially have a DD without a weakness, and without its classic weakness to planes. Sure they don’t have smoke, sure they have a lower health pool, but that’s because they simply don’t need them. I would ask WG to nerf these Cold War era DDs but they would never listen to a player like me, so I was wondering if you could just see that these things are a little OP in their current state.
I guess look at it this way, if they had a Russian flag on them, would you berate them? If you read this far I thank you for taking the time!
I don't see the exact place for Skane though. I mean yes, it is not unplayable but just very underwhalming. There is nothing that would make me to want to play it. Bad speed, HP, DPM, low damage torps, AA is also not that good, soo I really feel it is misplaced. Enjed T6 more and would rather take that one into battle.
I want to Upload , I found this line of DDs a bit challenging to grind, was weird not having any smoke. When I was grinding tiers 5,6 & 7, if a cv was in the game it didn’t matter where I went on the maps the cv always found my dd and focussed waves of planes until I was dead. The torps are a bit underwhelming and for me it mostly seems to be a bit of luck with landing torps, either get a lot of hits or almost none. I think every time I gun battle with a dds in this line I always lose or at best give an even trade off. I don’t know if you’ve played these dds , for me I think they’ve been the hardest dds so far due to not having smoke and being a bit slow. You’ve definitely got to pick your times when you open up with your guns, whereas with other lines of dds I’d be happy enough doing a gun fight, also one of the turrets always seem to get knocked out 😀

Hey Flamu can you do a commentary on the Worcester, I'm struggling with my role in it
Delet AA, Carousel around with friendlies; work off your detection range - its easy to shoot once and go hidden against BBs, also to get detected by a DD, and then pop radar and delet. Run the HE meta lol. You're a glass flamethrower, perfect for softening enemies AA and Secondaries, making them waste repairs as torps come to give perma floods, and absolutely providing an umbrella against CVs.
Wooster is more of a support ship. mostly works at the frontline, camp behind an island near a capture point.

I like my german DDs, but I am struggeling a bit with the Z-46 so far. Z-23 just seemed superior in fighting DDs.

I've been enjoying this line a lot more than i thought i would. Was hesitant as to whether i'd like it or not because of the lack of smoke so breaking out of an engagement would be that much more difficult. Play it smart and it's a lot of fun, i generally love torpedo boats anyway, and i just love watching the underwater cruise missiles go at it. I think it's comical how fast the torpedoes are. Very fun ship.
Grinding through the Öland for this. Really looking forward.

@@lukum55 nah the T7 is worse because the torps only to 7.5k dmg. Öland at least gets the 10k dmg torps, and soon the torpedo reload will be buffed too
@@lukum55 You Kidding? Öland is awesome! My winrate is like 53% without even trying. What are you even doing with that thing? All you have do is sit back a little, spot some ships and torpedo battleships.
When a CV comes along you blap his planes. And when you see A dd you can often win a gunfight.

Thanks for featuring this excellent ship. And i agree, if played correctly, it has the power to overturn games and can make up for its lack of alpha torp damage.
Got the highest damage game till date in the ostergotland doing 281k dmg recently, it has remained unbeated till now.
Sent it to jingles as well, hopefully he features that hilarious game.
Oh, and completed the halland grind in 35 games, apparently with best stats on Asia PR wise
Appreciate the video. I have several Tier IX ships unlocked, or close to it, and am trying to figure out which to buy. (Having recently given up on, and sold, Freddie the Gross I have a little cash in the bank, which is unusual.) So it is between a British heavy cruiser (HMS Drake) and the Östergötland. I do fairly well with HMS Albemarle and enjoy playing her, but the Oland and Skane are just a blast.
Now that Flamu says it’s actually EXCELLENT, I have to grind from tier 6 to tier 9.
And then not go to tier 10? Sounds very sheepish if you ask me.

When this ship was released, I played her purely as a gunboat and had a blast. Got myself enough for Halland before her release and more. Torpedoes were an afterthought.
Yesterday met a khaba as enemy shooting my team on open water for more than 10 minutes and my team can't kill it due to suck aim. The khaba survived without going black even once.
Thanks. I've modified the captain build to use BFT over TAE, have mixed feelings about it. Do you think Jerszy Swirski would be better used on the Ostergotland or the Halland?

Me while watching this: Actually wondering why I went for the Gearing line.
I’m currently on the OG and find it very enjoyable. I only differ from Flamu in a couple areas. From about t7 on up, you really only use the guns, except on other DDs, in knife fights so, I just keep the base range (usually a little over 9km) and disappear after killing a dd. Agree on building totally for torps but RPF may not be as useful as say another heal or some other lower point capt skill.
I love Pan European DD line just as much as I love RN DDs! Also

Excellent review again! TIL that Östergötland is pronounced with "soft G" (as J) even though I knew that Göteborg is pronounced with a J. These names obviously have similar etymology.

Have the Halland. Love the ship. Blistering fast torps but still getting used to a dd with no smoke for quick escapes lol
Thought I'd fair better once I unlocked the Oster after having a dismal grind through the Oland... But no, same thing for me no matter how much I play and practice with these Pan European DDs, it seems like I'm forever damned to my typical game result being only 40k-50k damage and then I'm dead. With getting spotted by planes and radar being bad enough already it makes me almost never want to open up with my main guns, because the instant you do you're guaranteed spotted and even after you've stopped shooting you get to enjoy a full 20 second countdown timer before going dark again finally. So there's almost never a situation where I'm willing to open up with my main guns knowing in the back of my mind that I'm going to be spotted the entire time I'm shooting and then I'll continue to be spotted for an additional 20 seconds as I try to disengage even after I've already ceased fire. Also, dk if it's just me or wtvr but after going through quite a few 1 on 1 knife fights in the Oland and the Oster, on paper she may have better HE DPM and all that but in game in a real fight you're really not out trading an enemy DD by much so sure you might come out the victor but because of your low HP pool you're going to be limping away from most knife fights with very little health left yourself for the rest of the match. Also, that's just a single serious 1 on 1 knife fight per match too that she can possibly get away with, so again the Oster might be able to confidently outgun that first DD that you run into but after that there's no way she has another one left in her. I highly doubt the average Oster match comes out anywhere near this cherry picked type damage which Flamu pulled off here, but hey, maybe I just really suck with these Pan Euro DDs and the majority of players really are able to easily rape in these DDs... I'm not going to give up on the line so I'll keep trying, but I'm def. not getting anywhere near the consistent results in these Pan Euro DDs that I'm able to in other nation's DDs like IJNS or Rusky ships.
Hey Flamu! I've been playing some Soviet DDs lately but i'm quite new to it. Currently at the minsk and cannot decide which line to go, I would love to know the difference between the 2.
I havent played either of those lines or RU dd's in general but what i do know is khaba is pure gunboat... build it to out gun whatever and the groz i'd say is more torpedo build... go down the line you feel most would fit.

One thing that struck me as curious about your Captain Build, is you didnt go for Superintendent. Given it gives you, among other things, an extra heal, why did you pick Torp acceleration?

Flamu and viewers, do you think that spacing torp launches in time is a viable tactic with these EU DDs? What I mean, is launching 1 spread of torps, wait 20-30 seconds and then launch the other one to stack floodings. I never got to try it, since I don't have much time to play, but I'm curious how it would work out.

Question: how do you deal with the engine and steering always breaking? Also, unrelated question, do you know somewhere to get the Flooding %chance for individual ship torpedos in game? I have looked and looked and can't find anywhere where this is listed, can find fire %chance everywhere but not flood %chance for torps.
With your first question, you need to take last stand as a captain skill, if your engine breaks you still can manouver, just a bit worse, than with a fully Operational one, same goes for rudder. for the torps you also need to consider the anti-flooding (sorry my brain is potato rn and i dont remember the exact word) for every ship
This thing is either a nightmare or target practice for my Z-46. Depends on their skill and my teammates if they are shooting them
OK, now try to do the same on EU, not on on pot-smoking RU where all yolo and die in first 5 mins
keep in mind, that these are ALL highlights. He has shitty games too.
Last ship I unlocked and upgraded, I got very frustrated by the long range module, giving 11.8km range instead 10.2, and which is mandatory.
I started with torp reload boost module of +15%, but it sucks 10.2 is just not enough.
So a bit dissapointed by that, impossible to focus on full torpedo build, and reach 75sec reload, u need guns to have decent range, and 10.2 is clearly not enough.
Except that it’s a good dd, like all DDs without smoke, I like them much (exception for Khaba, poor range, need to choose between concealment or manoeuvrability, and these days with all traps for DDs it’s a pain in the ass to play Khaba... but all others none-smoke DDs are really fun).
And ostergotland is clearly a good dd.
Would you say SI could be a valid choice over Torpedo Expert? You don't get too many consumables on this ship, and an extra heal and extra speed boost both seem like they might do a lot for the survivability.
Nothing's written in stone, if you think that might be a better fit for how you play the ship, then go for it. Just keep in mind that in 9.4, the standard consumables are going away, and what are currently the premium consumables will then become the standard consumables so pretty soon you'll have an extra charge for everything by default.

Unfortunately even on German ships secondary builds are inferior to a standard survivability build in this meta. Doesn't stop me from memeing around though. haha secondary go brrrrr.

Yes, Yuugumo is faster than Östergötland. But 0.5 knots faster isn't that big of a difference :D
Ya I find it funny/odd when he over plays a very marginal difference in stats. For a very smart guy, you would think he would know that in relative numbers, the difference isn't noticeable.
Like for this ship, he acts like 6 km concealment isn't good. Sure, there are better, but when you are .3 km from the very best in that category, you are never at a noteworthy disadvantage.

I can’t bring myself to give up the speed, smoke and gun-power of the Grozovoi for this. This looks fun, but I don’t think this tree is quite my style. Power to the players that do use it, though. This tree can be terrifying.
It's all depends on the players, both from your team and enemy team.
Yesterday I met a khaba on enemy side shooting on open water without going black even once for more than 10 minutes and my team focused on that khaba but can't hit it. Needless to say we lost the game badly.
Faisal MaTs oh, I have the Khaba as well. The Khaba was my first TX boat. However, the Grozovoi has better all-around capabilities (stealth, torps, etc.) so I will generally default to that. The Khaba is still a riot, though.

I would love to change my Kitakaze smoke to a heal. I love the Kitakaze but their are so many dds that are better or near her dpm and so she is very underwhelming because of her turningradius.
These missle torps are so effective against Haru Akizuki and Kitakaze. I love the IJN gun boats but they feel powercreeped pretty hard.

CV broke the game, this will not change until their spotting abilities are deleted. There should not be an All-Spotting-Eye in a game where cammo system plays a huge role....

where do you get that capt ?
You can get him for free with 10 skill points for completing the Strong-Willed Campaign which will only be available to complete for another 5 months. Or you can get him with 14 skill points through random bundles in the armory if you're willing to use 500 doubloons per attempt for up to 61 attempts. I got him on the 48th try, I've seen a few people get him on the very first try and one guy had to buy every last bundle to finally get him on the 61st try.

I have been struggling with the Japanese DDs, mostly because they have no tool to fight the gimmick heaven that is current meta, and CVs literally oneshotting me lol
Yep, high-tier EU DDs are great against CVs. They have really good AA to start with, then they also get the Defensive AA consumable, and if you have Jerzy Swirski as the commander, the AA gets even deadlier after 20 plane kills.

Kinda sad, that 2/3 of the 'monster DDs' you listed are premiums.
Counting steel ships and freexp ships isn't that fair, though I do agree that tier 9 is stuffed to the brim with way too many premiums.
@@Sky_Guy Hmm, the only way for the average player to obtain a free-xp ship, is to convert xp with dubloons. That is just a premium ship with extra steps, if you ask me.

wow.. another ship that can sink a lot of other dds within 3 seconds.. and speed of those torps is also just ridiculous.
No...only 4 guns...a gearing or any other brawly dd will get you. Torps are only 8, fast but low dmg and it is very easy to miss with the torps precisely bc they are fast..you overestimate where the optimal spot is to catch someone. They are better for area denial or if you are close in. With no smoke you get wrecked when spotted as you have no counter, also most dd outspot you. All in all its a good all rounder but doesnt shine anywhere.

Great match, however most of us don't have the skills or the flags or the 19 point special captain or the extra money to spend on the torpedo loader. Take all these away and get a few Italian cruisers that delete you with one salvo and then you really see how hard this ship is to play. Also the map you had was excellent. Try a open map without too many places to hide, and the ships aren't static so those low alpha strike torps rarely hit more than one. IMHO...most people will see see this and play this ship and get smashed. You almost didn't survive the first 5 mins....most times an average player won't.
I'm sorry but I'm gonna have to stop you there, 3:55. I really disagree with the dpm thing here. On paper it may seem good but the horrible dispersion and the range on those guns makes the dpm effectively pretty bad.

Why not give us back to back stock hull / modules vs. fully upgraded? And at this tier, say 14pt, vs. 19 (now 21) point captains? I mean, sure, it's cool to see you rip the reds with your full build and mega captains but what about us plebs? What should we expect?
This goes for all your vids btw. The Twitch streams, are hard to watch now with all the vulgarity and negativity. This coming from someone that's quite negative by nature... At the very least, please keep your UA-cam vids as useful to the general player as they used to be. Maybe I'm late to the party but I used to base most of my builds on your recommendations. Now, I'm not so sure. It seems you aim to capitalize on what's the popular meme atm... Or what works for you and your maxed out builds...

Same, in my Implacable, I played against an Ostergotland who was playing zone defense for some battleships and cruisers that were camping in a flag area that had a bunch of islands. Whatever he didn't shoot down, those battleships quickly finished off before I could get even a single drop.
