This video was a troll back in the day. The band announced their next video would have no masks and everyone was excited at seeing the band at last. Then they drop this video 😂
One of the original trolls, but their whole mask gig was just a troll at the MTV hair band generation. Listen to the music - most of us are ugly and it doesn't matter LOL
This was revolutionary for the band at the time because they were unmasked. Nothing they’d done before, you just get little glimpses of them unmasked. Nowadays everyone has already seen them all unmasked. Joey in Muderdolls, Corey in Stonesour, Sid doing session work as a DJ in a couple of industrial metal bands...pretty sure Shawn was in another band too after this drifting between Slipknot and that band. When he wasn’t recording with Slipknot Just doesn’t hit the same as it did back then Still an amazing song though.
@@tilz4527 yes, I assume most people would know but I also know that not everybody does k ow or would even catch that or that some people read comments and might get wrong info. I was just trying to be factual because from your comment it seemed like maybe you thought the video was after they passed. No biggie. Just trying to help those who don’t know what’s up. Also.. foreshadowing, by definition, means “to warn or indicate of a future event”. They would of had to know that Paul and Joey were going to pass away and then purposely put their masks together in order to foreshadow their untimely passing. This situation is more of what we would call a “coincidence”.
Corey was getting sober during this album, so you're not wrong about a somewhat transitional period. To me, this song is along the lines of acknowledging/declaring mortality. We all evolved from less intelligent lifeforms, yet some people act like they're somehow above the rest. Of course that's just my take on it. 💙 from Texas!
I read somewhere, I don’t remember where so don’t ask, that it also refers to the time when he was homeless and did not want to forget the people/other homeless who helped him when he was at seemingly his lowest point.
This is one of my favorite Slipknot songs. I remember when the video came out. Every one was freaking out and trying to see their faces in the video. Not long after we saw Corey in a Stone Sour video.
This was the most experimental album regarding masks. This video with no masks and the live Vermilion performance where their masks were sculpted to look like their faces.
Feels like yesterday when I first saw this video back in ‘04, I was so shocked to see without the masks! One of my top 10 Slipknot songs! Great reaction guys!
Volume three was a "transitional" album in the sense that the band's popularity was peaking (reaching a pinnacle at All Hope Is Gone) and they had found a writing path that yielded iconic Slipknot material, but also listenability amongst fans who weren't traditionally "extreme metal" fans. When the album dropped I was a freshman in highschool who was a big fan of Metallica and Linkin Park. I had grown aware of these guys through soundtracks (Freddy's VS Jason, Resident Evil) and when I first went to pick up an album, Volume 3 had just dropped and was everywhere... As soon as I saw the music video for "Duality", I was hooked and there was zero turning back. To me, this will always be Slipknot's best balance between old-school/new-school Slipknot styles and probably the most personal album of theirs, for me, of all time.
Great reaction guys. Slipknot is on tour right now (Knotfest). Jinjer was supposed to be one of the opening bands, but they had to cancel because of the fighting in Ukraine. Last we heard (Eugene put a video here on YT) he said him, Vlad and Roman were still in Kiev. Jinjer has 2 new tshirts for sale on their website and all of the profit goes to charities in Ukraine for food, water and medical supplies. R.I.P Razor Ramon
Just saw Slipknot last night here in Omaha.....they fucking killed it as always. A hangover and some neck pain now, but fucking damn was it an awesome time
Watching this reminded me of the real first time I saw the video when I was in high school, and God I felt the same good goosebumps because of the combination of the song and the video, it was fcking awesome! Keep it up guys, I really enjoy watching your reaction videos!
Good morning guys!! If today were to be described as Reebok Pumps, this reaction would be the PUMP! Appreciate the kick start to the day! Be well and stay safe ✌️
What a treat that you guys hadn't heard this song yet in your journey. This video was done this way because they had still never officially been unmasked to the public at this point. This was when they said hey you know what we can write a hit we're more than just a gimmick.
This video was the first and only time they had themselves not wearing masks as Slipknot. Crowz was not an album, never existed, it was a joke that they made in an interview and then people spread it around outside of context. Mate Feed Kill Repeat was their first album, they call it a demo now because all the tracks from it were redone between the self titled album and Iowa.
By the way, there's one video I saw one time, when they perform live with their "Death Masks", if I'm right it was a live Vermilion performance on their Vol. 3 era tours, the masks are somehow their real faces but in latex, and have a cool dark vibe
I went to Knotfest on Tuesday at the FedEx Forum in Memphis. Slipknot,In This Moment & Wage War tore the roof off that mfr 😈🤘 Hadn’t seen them since Ozzfest 2000.
One of their most popular songs and best videos. Just felt to me like them acknowledging the world around them and how they are blown up to be these megastars but are just people. And like others said, the video was especially special at the time because it was before they unmasked. Not many people knew what most of them looked like and if they did, it was really just corey and Jim because of stone sour.
I have always thought that the lyrics were their personal feelings on what it's like to be human. The confusion, the fear, growing up, and delaying and evading the inevitable end of the road..... Most lyrics are up to interpretation, so I would be very curious what it means to both of you guys. Hollywood being of an artistic mind and Smokey being the more intellectual one. Great reaction and I always look forward to Slipknot Saturdays! You guys should look in to Heretic Anthem or The Override for an upcoming Saturday.
Yeah I pretty much agree. I see the two main chorus lines as questining on who one "really is", and realizing that to unpack that you have to recognize that "yourself" is defined by the world of people around you who shaped you, and, from the opposite side of the coin, the fact that despite all our human mind power we are largely still animals driven by evolutionary wiring.
This video was the first time they even teased not wearing masks. Up to this point no one ever saw them without masks. Think this was just before Corey dropped stone sour so no one knew what they really looked like
You can pick out Corey Taylor in some Slipknot videos Like: - beginning of video ' Dead Memories ' - in the video that Shawn ' Clown ' made in the video ' Snuff ' Obviously 👋🏻😸✌🏻
'Crowz' wasn't an album released by the band. It was fan made, consisting of a few demo songs. Multiple band members have confirmed that crowz isn't real.
For this song, I would recommend on listening to the full song version rather than the music video, since the music video shows only a portion of the song. But thanks for reacting to this song!!!
This is one of those songs that gets you pumped up. This was definitely a transitional point for the band. I remember hearing that the band was done because shit just got so vile and out of control. The video is awesome but the album version is better because the video cuts out a good portion of the song. Great reaction fellas. Love my Slipknot Saturdays. For next week you should react to either Gematria ( The Killing Name), Wherein Lies Continue, or Birth of the Cruel. Dueces ✌️
The "album" crowz is not an official demo album. The name comes from one of Joey's inside jokes and people spread the misinformation. The fans, later on, created an unofficial album, named crowz which includes unreleased demos and live songs made between MFKR and Selftitled. The vocals were performed by both Corey and the ex-frontman, some songs were sung up by both guys showing their own take on it, pretty interesting listening to it.
If you guys know that song that starts with, Im looking at you through the glass, don't know how much time has passed, all I know is that it feels like forever!!! You'll see Corey Taylor singing with long blond hair, singing with his side band, Stone Sour! If you didn't know that was him, now you do?
"I was a creature before I could stand" for me the meaning is. We all was born and couldn't stand yet. So we couldn't move unless we crawled. Symbolic to us being on all fours like animals. Because in realist way we are nothing but animal. So "befor I forget" let me remind you we are animals and so are you. Probably don't judge me until your remember what we all are kind of thing. Which is "I am a world before I am a man."
One thing about Slipknot was the two drummers. Joey Jordison was one of the best metal drummers ever, but Shawn "Clown" Crahan brought the big guns. He brought the baseball bats and beer kegs when needed.
Lex luger from new york. Played at Miami but left and played with buffalo. Played in usfl I think but did not work out so went into wrestling trained by hiro matsuda. Debuted in championship wrestling from florida
Regarding Corey's hair, he let it grow during the Iowa period, if you look carefully at live videos like the Disasterpieces concert, his hair comes out of the mask
MFKR had masks, but it was quite different, like very simple homemade quality masks. Crowz is unofficial compilation of various low quality stuff, not really worth it, unlike MFKR. Corey became part of the band in 1997. For pre-Corey Slipknot I would recommend song called Slipknot, it's like an early version of (Sic) and it significantly differs from (Sic).
You guys need to check out the Road Runner United album that was released in 2005. It’s like an all star group of all the roadrunner signed bands back in the day like Slipknot, machine head, trivium, Killswitch engage, machine head, and more. The whole album is so good! Start with The Rich Man!
I'm relatively new to this channel so I haven't seen everything but just in case please do My Plague off the first album Iowa the album version not the resident evil version. Thats my all time favorite off the first album. That one and left behind please please and glad to see others enjoying this band
great reaction man. I think you guys should listen to the Heretic Anthem which is a really heavy song from their second album or listens to Surfacing from their first album which is one of my favorites because it's just soo damn heavy and it is the definition of angry slipknot.
Ya need to react to some stone sour his other band that him and guitarist Jim root are also in. Stone sour has a little of this sound to it react to gone soverne/ absolute zero

Still an amazing song though.
Corey AND Jim in Stone Sour
At this point pretty much all members except Craig were involved with other projects and had been seen unmasked.
Jim as well
Shaun was managing American Head Charge at rhe time
Notice how joey and Paul’s mask were hanging together so sad
Wow I didn't notice that
4:39😥
It is sad but they were both alive and in the band during this album and video! I was so sad when Paul died and then Joey..
@AdamT don’t you think I and a lot of people know that it’s called foreshadowing
@@tilz4527 yes, I assume most people would know but I also know that not everybody does k ow or would even catch that or that some people read comments and might get wrong info. "Vermilion Pt2" from the same album.
That was exactly what I was about to suggest. It's hauntingly beautiful
The lyrics flow perfect in this song.
Still remember the day this dropped a great video in the course of the slipknot storey🔥🤟
Groove metal is actually one of the genres listed on the band's Wikipedia page. They've been called that many times.
Yeah, but the first band to have the groove metal tag was Pantera.

Clown once said if they ever do an unmasked show it is time for them to call it quits. FYI, Slipknot is on tour this summer with Cypress Hill
Good old days when we didn't know how they looked. This video comes out and we were like "Oh, Slipknot went Unmasked. Who the hell are they?".
