Taneisha, Taneisha, Taneisha...Girlfriend I'm no baker, but thought I would try this recipe, as I have had fruits soaking since lockdown! on a promise that I was going to try and make a Christmas cake😄 Well I bit the bullet and tried, it turned out absolutely perfect. I am so chuffed with myself. Thank you so much for posting. Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones.
This recipe is the TRUTH! I followed your recipe and ended up making 3 delicious rum cakes that were moist, flavorful, and reminiscent of the cakes that my Jamaican grandmother and aunts would make. Thank you Taneisha for this gift. You have made Christmas 2023 on of the most memorable ones for my family. 🇯🇲
Taneisha! I’m in heaven. I’ve been transported back to my childhood! Thank you for such a wonderful recipe and responding to my question on your website today. I added breadcrumbs and flour for a cakier texture like you suggested and it’s perfect! I have a Christmas tin and I’m sending the second cake to my mom this week. Thank you!
I am so so so happy!! This made me smile - so thrilled to hear that!! I hope you enjoy enjoy enjoy and have a blessed holiday season!! & you are welcome!! Anytime! Here to help! :)
Hhaha! Ok, definitely my recipe and I am praying toward SUCCESS!! It's a great recipe, so you should be set!! All the best!!! You got this - also, please report back!! Let me know how it works out!
Hey everyone. Wanted to update everyone that I tried this recipe yesterday and it’s finger licking good.👍🏾 😊. It’s a must try. However I did do equal parts butter and sugar. I’m going to try it next with bread crumbs
Hello! Soaking the fruits whole first in rum allows them to absorb the flavours more thoroughly and evenly && it not only infuses the fruits with the rich taste of rum but also helps them plump up, becoming moist and flavourful and easier to blend or purée! I hope you enjoy!!
It won't make a difference. I puree my fruit and store it in the fridge It tastes just as good. Purring it beforehand also means less prep work when preparing the black cake
Hi Taneisha. Its that time again. I made ur cake several times last Christmas/new years after we chatted. So delicious. Absolutely perfect. Im going to make it again next week pse God. I want to double d recipe to get 2 large cakes. Do u think d result will be d same. Should i just double all d ingredients exactly and get d same texture taste etc.
Hi my friend! So glad to hear from you again - hope the year treated you nicely regardless of how life can stay sometimes! To you question - yes for sure.. I just doubled the recipe this past weekend and the results were the same! Also, I have a black cake icing recipe out that I just posted this week - you should check it out it makes the cake even tastier (if you prefer cake with icing)! Great i will double d recipe. 1 pound of butter will be good for that right? D year was not a good one. I lost my one child ..my son on news years morning. He had a massive heart attack. My whole world is shattered. But life has to go on though difficult as it seems.
My son had some for Christmas and said it was d best he ever had. I baked one to share with him for new years but didn't get to share with him. Instead my family and friends had it d night he passed.
There's no American black cake, and it's Jamaican Christmas fruit cake not black cake, the cake is not about the color it's about the ingredients which is soaked dried fruits.
Good recipe. but do you all keep saying JAMAICAN Black cake. All the Caribbean and South America make black cake at christmas. So its Caribbean Black cake not only Jamacaica.
People call the cake from where they are from. I’ve seen videos on UA-cam called Trinidad rum cake, Barbados Black cake, Caribbean rum/black cake etc. It depends.

I have unsalted butter😢 does it make a difference?
That’s totally fine, just add a pinch more salt! You’re good! Enjoy!!
Would you suggest purring your fruit and store it in the fridge until ready to use?

tips to oil/ prepare pan so it doesn’t stick ?
Ive already greased my pans with butter - they’ve never stuck! So you should be good with just butter! ☺️
Do you sell the rum soaked fruit? I can't wait a year 😂
Can I use unsalted butter

This is a really great recipe ❤@theseasoned skillet
American black cake is not the same . It does not taste like Jamaican black cake or Caribbean black cake . Yes we like our authentic brand .
It’s also called a fruitcake or Christmas cake. Oh yes or rum cake 😂 it has many names
There's no American black cake, and it's Jamaican Christmas fruit cake not black cake, the cake is not about the color it's about the ingredients which is soaked dried fruits.
No one makes black cake like Jamaicans... I know, I have tried black cake from several countries/islands... No Contest!. Sorry
Too sweet and too dense.
Good recipe. but do you all keep saying JAMAICAN Black cake. All the Caribbean and South America make black cake at christmas. So its Caribbean Black cake not only Jamacaica.
Well hers is JAMAICAN BLACK CAKE. Others can call theirs whatever they want.
Also the JAMAICAN RUM and the JAMAICAN WINE is the star of the show. So JAMAICAN BLACK CAKE it is.
@@sassysofiyah4720exactly Jamaican Black rum cake it is! Nothing less or more. Take it or leave it!
People call the cake from where they are from. I’ve seen videos on UA-cam called Trinidad rum cake, Barbados Black cake, Caribbean rum/black cake etc. It depends.
Gweh! Badmind!!!!! It’s Jamaican black cake. Argument done! 🤐
