I'm watching this and am soooo emotional. I lost my darling Mom just over a year ago and watching your Mom bake this cake is the closest to how my Mom did her cakes. I always assisted her and it was such a joy. When your Mom said 'it's coming to come' I started crying as that's EXACTLY what my Mom would say. Like y our parents, my Mom was heart and soul JAMAICA! Thanks for these amazing videos. God Bless your family and may your parents live a long, healthy and BLESSED life ❤
3 years later but I enjoy watch and reminiscing about my childhood days when I shared the job of creaming the butter and sugar with my sisters. This brings back sweet memories of my mom. Can’t wait to try this. I haven’t tried making black cake as an adult. I’m ready to get back to my roots! Did your mom call your dad “Boo”?
Sorry for your lost. I also lost my mom almost 13 yrs ago. She baked at night so none of us knows how to make black/rum cake so you have been my go to, 2 yrs now. Thank you mom, dad and daughter. I've watched you for many Jamaican food know how. Jamaican in Canada. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
Shalom to you and yours. I'm from Puerto Rico but I've always loved Jamaican food. I thank you for sharing this recipe with us. I will certainly try to prepare this cake. Love ❤ your love. You guys are an example of how a couple should treat each other, with love, patience, and respect. God's blessings to you and yours.

Everyone who sees me cooking with eggs asks me why I do it, I learned it from my mother but she had a nasty name for it, whatever the reason, it stayed and I always take it out. Thank you for not leaving me by myself in this business of egg's eyes :)

I'm a new comer to Deddy's Kitchen from the UK and I absolutely love the family vibes! My mum and dad both passed October/December 2019 and how I miss them but more so my mum assisting me in the kitchen telling me how to cook jamaican dishes the correct way and the accent! They were my whole world! God bless them both! Deddy and Mrs Deddy remind me of them so much! Keep up the good works both! Absolutely luv oonugh! 🙏🏼🇯🇲😁
I baked this cake for an 8 inch tin following pound for pound it was big. I split mine into a smaller tin. I had a 9inch and 5inch. But let 👏🏽me 👏🏽 tell 👏🏽 you👏🏽 This recipe right here is the BEST. Sooo much flavour and moist whoooiii praise God! I don’t even wanna share it 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Thank you ❤😊
Oh wow! I so enjoyed this. I remembered my Mom making this years ago. But just like many Caribbean moms, she never used a recipe. She was originally from Antigua 🇦🇬. Moved to St.Croix US. Virgin Islands 🇻🇮. I remember her using the bread crumbs which she made from toasting left over bread and the fruits I can remember her soaking in a big jar for years on end. She also when she made it used to put them in those Danish butter cookie tins that they had back then, seal it, and immerse them in a big pot of boiling water. You brought back so many good memories for me, when I watched this. This year will be 15 years since She passed. I will definitely be trying this recipe. Thank you so much for this!
My mother is 93 from Jamaica her mother every year made rum cake. Miss Sheila is so sweet love her and Deedy. I followed this recipee and everyone loved it. Just as my grandmother did I watched Miss Sheilas using this recepee and have started this tradition again in my family. Thankyou Miss Sheila you are both such a sweet couple. Merry Christmas now going to watch your Sorrel recipee see if Im missing something.
Guys please remember this is HER recipe, going by the recipe in the description if you find your test batch too sweet then simply reduce the sugar by half cup so 1 1/2 cups instead of 2, just remember the more bitter your wine is or the blacker you need the cake the burnt sugar and browning is bitter so just experiment, be grateful they are providing this recipe and instructions because these cakes are selling expensive.
@@Steel-14i nobody said it was serious John, grateful/thankful when someone gives you something especially for free at least say thanks instead of criticising too much about something like how much sugar goes into something that is meant to be sweet, use the recipe as a base, learn how to throw it all together then modify and enjoy.

I usually don’t comment on videos but I had to comment on this. I’ve watched so many Christmas cake baking videos and you are the first that explained so well how we can do a smaller cake while you’re baking a large batch. Thanks for clarity! Subscribed.
You cold divide the mixture in half, then pour it into the bigger pan and save yourself the hard work..or use a had mixer for the bigger bowl.thats way too much unnecessary work. You guys are not working smart. It looks like it curds. The eggs might be cold and the other ingredients are at room temperature. My mom makes cakes but she does it a bit different, she mixes the baking powder, the flour ,the spices nutmeg, cinnamon bread crumbs, then she uses a strain and sift it in a separate bowl of the she gradually adds it to the batter of sugar , butter and eggs.

I adore this channel. I moved pretty far from home a few years ago and very much miss my mother’s cooking. Seeing these videos helps me still feel connected to her and her cooking. They fill a void in between the time we can see each other again. 🇯🇲 ❤️
This is the first cooking show I ever watch an felt like I was in the home I really enjoy watching u guys I would subscribe over an over mummy u remind me of my mother got it all covered and Deddy hands them tyaad gwaan goh sid down..dwl you guys are jus awesome and Lady video you are the icing on the cake mi love hunuh!!!♥💁🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲😘😘😘
Everything looks good except for one thing. Way too much unnecessary sugar going into your body. The fruits are already sweet. Port wine and Wincarnis wines are already sweet. So is the burnt sugar and then 3 lbs sugar. Those cakes are gonna be dangerously sweet and unhealthy for the body. I guarantee 2lbs sugar or less would make the cakes just as enjoyable, just as delicious, but not so sweet. I bake black cakes a lot and use half the amount of sugar and they come out great but not as sweet. Please try it and see.
The sugar was added base on the size cake the lady make it clear besides that they all are doing a fantastic job..i don't eat sweet's an u don't see me finding fault if you don't eat sweet's u have an option to eat or not...🙄🙄🙄🙄
So true love the togetherness and feel like mi in di kitchen with unu too, Deddy being a good sport though. Love your Mom too, she a hottie too with her nails and natural makeup. LawdaMeryAye

Omg the last time I had this cake was over 10 yrs ago and I was determined to make I search videos and came across which I remember the texture (and LOVED became a subscriber 😊) and omg it was a hit for my FIRST time and I thank deddy kitchen UA-cam (with mommy tutorial) that made it possible ❤❤❤❤❤😋😋
I love love love this channel. It’s a breathe of fresh air to see your mum on the channel and how cute are both Deddy’s and Mommy together. Thank you for all your honest recipes.❤🎉😅😊
I'm covering the show Black Cake (Hulu) on my channel, and I got curious about what goes into actually making Black Cake and learning about the cultural significance of it to folks in the Caribbean. This was perfect for what I was looking for. Your mother is BEAUTIFUL! Thanks for sharing! New subscriber! 😃
This was so therapeutic to watch, along with the lovely background music. I've made a few Black Cakes over the years. Some turned out beautiful, and some a disaster. Over here in the UK, we have the Rich Ruby Red Wine. This may be the nearest thing to what you have along with the Wray & Nephew. for soaking the fruits. Loved the step-by-step walkthrough. I am going to try the pound cake first. Thank you!
When I'm baking with that many eggs, I just crack them quick and then after hand mixing a bit to break the yolks up, I just put the mixture through a fine mesh sieve that catches all the chalazae (those white "eyes") and any shell pieces that might have snuck in. Just a suggestion. I love black cake and order one every Christmas from my friend's mom who makes the best I've ever tried. Yours looks delicious too.
@@kimoni6 That's what makes the cake dense but super moist at the same time. It's so rich that it will take a while for a small family to eat it all, but it never seems to dry out.
What a blessing to have found this...I love to learn to cook cross cultural dishes ...we are a world family...my life is enriched by you...thank you for welcoming us all into your kitchen and cuisine! Absolutely wonderful!
Happy holidays to you all. This brings back a lot of childhood memories when all the women of the family who lived close to each other would get together in October each year to bake cakes as a small girl I loved it. When I joined my mother in the UK at the age of 14 it was now just mum and I as the years passed this tradition continued now it's my husband children and I going to mother in November to bake for Christmas and distribute to family. So thank you thank you very much for evoking these happy memories. I would like to say Mr Deddy's your wife looks like family to me, however do continue to take care of each other. Blessings for 2023😀
Okay, so Mommy is the baker and Deddy does the real cooking! Mommy is so precious too! Look at Deddy face, he's thinking now don't try to show me up! I love this family channel!
Its a caribbean thing no eye or thread in eggs. Lemon or lime zest get rid of the fresh / freshy/rank/raw smell from the eggs. Love your family dynamic. Not fake. Feel the love.
I just wanted to say that I enjoy your show. This is the first time I've seen your Mommy. You have such a beautiful family. Your Mommy is so pretty and I can tell that there is so much love in your hearts and home. Thank you for bringing me/us all of these wonderful yummy recipes and God Bless 😊
You all hit the nail on the head with this one. Thank you!!! Made this last night (with a little variation) and it reminds me so much of when I baked a lot back in the days. This will definitely be my new go to cooking site. Great, Great, Great job Mommy, and assistant Deddy, AND videograher!!!
I have been watching all morning . Best explanation thus far. Good refresher! This is the way I learned. Thank you mommy.💕❤️🤙Nobody does it like you. Ultimate expert. This is how you make Jamaican black cake rum cake, Christmas cake. Let the Church say Amen 🙏.
This is family oriented, warm, and quite loving. I definitely feel a part of the baking process. Yes, still watching in 2024. Thank you for sharing with us
Made this cake for Christmas, Omg it was so delicious. Everyone absolutely enjoyed it. This is the only Black Cake recipe I will be using from now on. Thank you Deddy’s kitchen 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🎶🎶.
A little advice open your egg in a cup so to prevent pices of shells falling in also should you get a bad egg so it wouldn't contaminate the rest of your eggs
Girl! Mummy’s giving us all the tea. No but if information left behind and I love it. This is what I needed. My boyfriend is Jamaican and although I’m of Caribbean descent as well I’m not Jamaican. This will be the first year since he’s been “a foreign” 😉 that he’ll be actually celebrating Christmas so I want to make it special. I made it my way last year but hopefully making it this way this year will feel more authentic to him. Thanks for this!
I decided to make this run cake and I Followed the direction of making a 1 pound cake which ended up getting four 9 1/2 inch pan cake out of the mix. It came out so delicious and looking as good as the video shown. I will be definitely be baking it again next year for the holidays. My first time making this cake and it came out excellent and delicious 😋 Daddy’s Kitchen you guys are the best. AA+ in my book.

Thank you so much we love you too
Everything looks good except for one thing.
The sugar was added base on the size cake the lady make it clear besides that they all are doing a fantastic job..i don't eat sweet's an u don't see me finding fault if you don't eat sweet's u have an option to eat or not...🙄🙄🙄🙄
Her recipe says 1lb sugar = 4cups when it really = 2cups. So yes, thats way too much sugar.
So true love the togetherness and feel like mi in di kitchen with unu too, Deddy being a good sport though. Love your Mom too, she a hottie too with her nails and natural makeup. LawdaMeryAye

It’s Bull, thank you so much for watching
You are definitely a pro at cake making - Thanks a lot I have learned so much more about cake making
Same!
Thank you for taking the time to show us step by step how to make the black cake.
You guys are awesome!!!
Thank you very much.
Awesome suggestion...my friend said to use more eggs. Why do they use so many eggs?
@@kimoni6 That's what makes the cake dense but super moist at the same time. It's so rich that it will take a while for a small family to eat it all, but it never seems to dry out.
@@jennykim6798 oh okay, thanks for responding....
How much do they cost?
Bless up Deddy's Kitchen!❣ Your mom is a nice addition. 🙂
Thank you 🙏
What a blessing to have found this...I love to learn to cook cross cultural dishes
...we are a world family...my life is enriched by you...thank you for welcoming us all into your kitchen and cuisine! Absolutely wonderful!
Made this for mothers day with a few tweaks and my mum is obsessed. Absolutely loves it. Thank you.
Your mom called your dad "boo" they are so adorable
Thank you so much
Thanks for Mama Sheila’s recipe, it is highly appreciated.🌺❤️🇨🇦
You are so welcome 🙏
Yesssss mummy; I always take out the eye because it’s fresh (raw) taste; but not many people take it out!! Big up mummy
Its a caribbean thing no eye or thread in eggs. Lemon or lime zest get rid of the fresh / freshy/rank/raw smell from the eggs. Love your family dynamic. Not fake. Feel the love.
Thank you so much
True. It's just not a Jamaican thing. I am not from Jamaica and we make it the same way minus the breadcrumbs. It's a Caribbean thing. 😞
Thank you so much we bless you
You all hit the nail on the head with this one. Thank you!!! Made this last night (with a little variation) and it reminds me so much of when I baked a lot back in the days.
This will definitely be my new go to cooking site. Great, Great, Great job Mommy, and assistant Deddy, AND videograher!!!

Thank you so much Mummy for this recipe!
I take the eyes out as well.
I love you guys!
Nuff Respect🧡🧡
Thank you so much
I think mom makes a mistake with the measuring cup. 32 one is 2 pounds not one pound, that's why she has so much mixture. Otherwise good job!
Amen 🙏
Can't you feel the love with them. Love it
#blackloveisbeautiful

This is family oriented, warm, and quite loving. I definitely feel a part of the baking process. Yes, still watching in 2024. Thank you for sharing with us
Made this cake for Christmas, Omg it was so delicious. Everyone absolutely enjoyed it. This is the only Black Cake recipe I will be using from now on. Thank you Deddy’s kitchen 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🎶🎶.
Awesome 👏 and thank you so much
A little advice open your egg in a cup so to prevent pices of shells falling in also should you get a bad egg so it wouldn't contaminate the rest of your eggs
Thank you so much
Was thinking the same
Merle, I am surprised of all the cooking shows the cooks never open their eggs in a separate cup or bowl for the exact reasons you mention.
I was saying the same thing
Exactly, I strained mines
My first time making this cake and it came out excellent and delicious 😋
Daddy’s Kitchen you guys are the best.
AA+ in my book.
Your Mom calls your Dad” Boo” that’s lovely. Nice team work, very good explanation. 👌🏽

Thank you I come back here for ingredients measurements.. and inspiration Lol. I've only started to bake my own cakes in the last year or so and enjoy getting great results. I normally go for a 1lb cake mix and get 1 large cake, 1medium and 2 regular square tins and 12 cups cakes which is a lot. Happy Christmas 👍🏽
I love to watch Deddy’s cooking shows. Thanks for your time and labor. Stay Blessed you all.
Love the recipes your parents are so humble God bless them
At least daddy is helping and not just waiting to eat and complain if things don't come out right
He is great at helping

Were you able to find the wines locally by you? That's my biggest objection
🤗🤗🤗Thanks Mrs. Deddy for your 🇯🇲 Black Rum Cake...I will definitely follow your recipe and I am confident my first real attempt from scratch cake will come out absolutely on point. I love your clarity in the steps you've given. Thank you so very much for sharing your expertise in the real Jamaica 🇯🇲 iconic Black Rum Cake❤🤗👍🙌👏🙏. Thanks Deddy's Kitchen 🤩🙏.
