- General Examination - Clinical Skills OSCE - Dr Gill
The general examination is one of those early exams, which is essentially used to start medical students off with their clinical skills studies.
In the real world, it's mainly used with regard to gaining an overview of a patient, such as for a medical check up, or a baseline examination, for example, a health report.
They have been a couple of comments about the pulse monitor used in the video. For those who are interested. I’ve reached out to the manufacturer, and they’ve requested that the following code is provided to viewers, in order to get 20% off, if they decide on themselves.
Product model number: Vibeat SP20

Special 20% OFF code: JAMES

Different medical schools, nursing colleges and other health professional courses will have their own preferred approach to a clinical assessment - you should concentrate on THEIR marks schemes for your assessments.
Some people watching this video may experience an ASMR effect

I'm a simple man. I see a post by Dr. Gill, I hit "like" before it even starts playing
lets only communicate in memes shall we
To really excel at that YT would need to allow visual posts, which don’t be happening
@@DrJamesGill Community posts?
@@alexm5673 At least my "meme" - aside from being a genuine compliment to @DrJamesGill for his quality content - had proper punctuation. ;-) It's just banter... have a nice 2024, everyone
Careful - I’ll just flood it with Jurassic Park memes!!
Megan is a great successor to the legendary Abbie Tutt.
But Megan Struddles ?
Megan STRUTHERS. 💘
I wonder how she's doing.

Will always be thankful for biology lessons. We once learned about lymph notes and how it’s not normal for them to be swolen for longer than 2 weeks, and for some reason that always stuck with me. And thankfully it did because years later i started having this big lump in my neck and i decided to have it checked out. Usually i’m a “it’s probably nothing” type of person so i never would’ve gone, but i did and it turned out to be cancer! Basic biology knowlegde is so important❤
The resolution on the last few vids has been amazing as well on the sound. So clear. Thanks Doc.
Her pulse was so good it blew her socks off 4:53
She's done her trick with the socks again😅
It is not a trick. They hired a really fast person for that.
Sees a new video by Dr. Gill, gets excited. Sees that it's a general exam, gets even more excited. Sees that it's only 5 minutes long, gets bummed out. I do wish it was longer but it was sure a great 5 minutes.
Still.. it's better than nothing, beggars can't be choosers these days
That lymph node check in the neck is super important. A doctor missed my lymphoma even if i had a rather large lump near the clavicle.
Im guessing this is because lymphoma is so rare and most doctors probably do this exam their entire career without finding a single case?
Im not mad at the doctor we are all humans and we All make mistakes
46 beats per minute?! That's impressive ! Love these clinical skills videos - not a doctor myself, just find them fascinating :) Thanks Dr Gill!
Isn't that absurdly low? I thought 60 was the low end of normal.
@@joshhaworth215540s is normal for an athlete!
@@joshhaworth2155 Yes it is! I’ve heard that the lower the BPM the more healthy the heart? So athletes tend to have lower BPM. But then again, not a doctor!!
@@joshhaworth2155 Mine was around 50 and I was told I had bradychardia
@@autism_and_niamhwell now I'm worried as hell cuz my heartbeat is normally like 108 beats per minute
New year, new video. Great way to start it off
Man this guy is the king of ASMR
Happy 26th Birthday to "Megan Struthers, the 22nd of February, 1998".
Happy New Year 2024
Dr.Gill
We haven't had a Megan video in a long time. Has she returned or is this an old video? Either way, nice to see her and this video! Happy New Year!
Dr. Gill is an absolute legend. I wish he was my doctor!
Great video! As someone with deep veins I love how quickly it appeared you were able to find hers for the purposes of taking her pulse, lol, I always have to remove my watch when they try to take mine during the health history portion of blood donation appointments and even then they take a few seconds and some deeper pressure to find it 😂. I do love being able to track my pulse and bp however every time I go and am very satisfied when my pulse reads it’s standard 64 bpm and my bp is within a normal range 😂😂😂. As someone for which high blood pressure runs in my family it’s something I do everything I can to try and avoid!
I love these Dr Gill!
Dr Gill, I love your videos, you checked for edema at the end, I wonder if you could do a whole video about edema?
Oh wait, i think its a ASMR video, his voice it make me relax
Hi Dr Gill,
Thank you for all your informative videos
I'll like to ask
What alternative can be used if an ECG paper gets finished?
Thank you as I'll appreciate your response
Yasssss she's back again!
I'm almost 42. I don't think I've ever had a physical that looks anywhere near like this. Bp done by nurse, Dr listens to heart and lungs then sends you for labs. That's it. I kinda want my money back.
That’s all I get too, would appreciate a full look over at least once a year. Would probably help people be healthier too if they thought someone was keeping a closer look on them throughout life.
I've seen many other medical/ASMR 'General Examination' videos that take a lot longer than 5 minutes. I'm assuming that as long as the doctor covers all of the basic points, they can go into more depth in the examination if they *choose* to?
The general exam, is in my humble opinion, a bit of a fake examination. Someone doesn’t go to the doctor and say “Doc my general is a bit sore, could you examine it please”
However it is used at medical as the first week assessment, as it gets student started.
Also it works as a general over view to the patient, where you may highlight something and then need to dig into other systems to find out what is going on
It’s very much a “mirror, signal, manoeuvre” type exam
@@DrJamesGillI have never thought about it in that way, but this makes complete sense haha. I have never been to the doctor and asked for a general overview, aside from jobs looking for physicals to be done. Have you ever had a general overview where someone had something seriously going wrong with them?
Even her socks are excided about the new video of Dr. Gill...
Happy new year to both of you!
Dr Gill. I wonder if you’d consider a discussion on Perimenopause / Menopause.
This was Great 👍
Que ojos verdes increíbles tiene la joven!
I have learnt a lot from your videos plus it helps me relax keep up the amazing work :))
Happy to hear that!
NEW YEAR NEW DR GILL, WHOOPOOOO
My brain keeps telling me that your eyes will suddenly go wide and you'll go "normal pulse... normal pulse... oh my god, you've got 2 hearts! you're an alien". I have no clue why, probably too much doctor who recently. That apart, thank you for the video xD
Exelent
Happy to see you, Dr ! Great outfit you have today, as usual !
Nice g
This video feels magic (and i'm not talking about the disappearing socks)
Love these videos but I always wonder at the start what can actually be gained by looking at the hands so closely ?
If you look at the deep dive videos, we explain the specific signs we are looking for for each specific system 😊
The delightful Miss Struthers😍
doc got a new camera for christmas. nice!!
Why is it important to take blood pressure without AND then with the stethoscope?
Gilly with that Han Solo drip 💧 🥵
Aah... fantastic.. some new ASMR from the master Dr Gill
Love the accent definitely for sleeping
Ahh another good one
her fake engagement ring to keep us wolves at bay is just lovely
Welcoming the new year with a touch of tingles! Awesome #theoriginalG
Can you please make episod about fibromyalgia
I always hate getting my blood pressure taken. It huts like hell. Well it huts with my left arm. My right is fine.
Turquoise blue that's a unique shade of blue eyes, never seen that before.
Anyone else notice the socks magically disappeared at 4:43 then reappear at 5:00? 😂
That is what you call a smooth transition/excellent editing skills 😂
It also happens at 0:56 as well😂
🤫
Dr. Gill do you rehearse the method of explaining with this soothing voice , or is it natural
Oddly relaxing
What is having hand tremors a sign of? Me and my mom have had it since forever, but no one else in my whole family... And anyone else, really. Market cashiers constantly point out that my hands are shaky, so in everyone else's eyes they're really shaky.
I’m sorry I’m not able to provide medical advice. I would however recommend speaking with your doctor. It is the sort of thing I would want to patient to talk to me about
Resting tremors run in my family and after the doctor ruled out other diagnoses, they said in our cases they were harmless. So, yes, of course, talk to your doctor as Dr. Gill wisely says, but it may not necessarily be a symptom of something serious.
I have always had trembling hands since I was a child. Went to see my doctor around 20 years ago about it and he diagnosed the trembling as a benign essential tremor.
Doc i haven't had a general examination or test done by a doctor all my life, i wanted to ask is it okay? Is it necessary to be going for yearly check-ups?
Honestly I feel we should normalise health checks, routinely, like we do going to the dentist but the question would be at what age to start?
hello doctor! just and suggestion: maybe its a good ideia put the mic closer to ur mouth, your whispers are the best ASMR of all UA-cam. cya!
My face at 1:55 when i look at my energy bill each month over winter.
Can you please do a video on cholesterol? I'm 41 and have a healthy bmi and balanced diet and I have been told recently I have a level of 6 which apparently it too high. I exercise every day, walking for at least half an hour and do two classes at the gym every week. I'm mortified and need help to understand what I've done wrong. I don't smoke and barely drink.. Less than one drink a week. What do I do if I'm already doing the right stuff!? Thanks
That’s a really good idea for a video!
@@DrJamesGill ❤️ I'm glad. I'll look forward to seeing it in the future. Love your work my man x
She has beautiful eyes. ❤❤
Excuse me Dr Gill, sir, where do her socks vanish to and reappear from?
Dating in 2024 seems like such a hassle with all these checks.
Megan is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!!
You could say she’s… lovely (asmr pun)
When the patient gave her birthday I immediately thought of the scene in Hot Fuzz. 😂
super
So this is different to A-E assessment? I see some of the checks are the same, but not all.
The A-E is for the acute setting. This is for the general setting. Eg a medical
@@DrJamesGill Ahh okay. I’m just a student so wasn’t too sure. Thanks 👍
@SCW87 not at all, you’re not *just* a student. You ARE a student. That’s a fantastic thing, you are studying to be more.
Also you asked a question you were not sure on. That always beats 99% of the people who were not sure of something but didn’t ask
@SCW87 in fact, it might be worth while doing an A-E video as a comparison
@@DrJamesGill That would be good!
You should seriously capitalize on a signature stethoscope, Dr. Gill. I’m pretty sure a lot of us would buy it… just saying.
that lady 😊
I love vídeos with Megan... But that was short one... We need a Head to toe with Megan pls 🙏🏻
Is pulse 46bpm normal?
In this context it indicated a very healthy and trained heart
😮socks vanished. Magic
46 bpm is normal? I think it is bradycardia, no?
Technically yes, but in young/fit individuals it can be a sign of good cardiovascular health as long as it's not symptomatic bradycardia (syncope, lightheadedness, hypotension, etc).
If u cant b calm with Dr Gill as ur doctor u cant b calm
Is that zosia Mamet???
Camera on the purell like 👀👀👀
I’ve always wondered how medical students who watch this to study don’t fall asleep
What is he examining?
Amanda Knox as I live and breathe
22nd February 1998? Man, I’m getting old.
She reminds me of Billie Piper from the Doctor Who series.

They might be referring to the magical disappearing trainers in a previous video. Although this one has disappearing socks in the close up at the end 😉

Why does Dr Gill only exam healthy patients?
Because sick ones are icky. 😛

Ah the disappearing socks again.
Heart rate in the 40s ... isn't that bradycardia?
Technically, but it is accepted in fit young individuals as not of concern
