@@DrJamesGill I never heard someone refer to a piece of paper as pit of paper. American here. So I think it's the way you say it quickly without enunciation. If I said "put a piece of paper" there would be more enunciation in "piece of paper" than "pit of paper"
That's my interpretation of why everyone loves it.

I'm no expert in medicine but i always liked when doctors explained me what they were doing, not in a technical way but just so we can understand what they were searching for, you doc are a perfect example of this, i believe it's a good thing, just like when I'm taking my car to the mechanic, i really don't understand what they did to the car but at least they try to get some sort of basic knowledge to the basic client

dr. gill, this is my favorite format for these videos by far. i wonder if you’ll ever do one with an SP that is trained to “have” certain symptoms that will indicate some diagnosis? i do realize that’s not possible with more “visible” signs and symptoms, but it would be an interesting exercise to “test” the viewers’ knowledge as you go about the exam.

Each one wanted to try on his own, so we ordered like fifteen glass bottles of coke, which we drank in a gulp. When the waitress returned at our table she found fifteen people quietly hitting their knees with empty bottles.
We explained why, and she joined.

I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism almost 3 years ago and I’ve been in treatment since then. This medical exam is what my doctor does in my periodic check ups, I wasn’t sure what she was checking in my hands but now I know 🤓 The only part of the exam my doctor does not check is the part of the tongue. This video is very informative, I had almost all of the symptoms mentioned for hyperthyroidism, we found out about it because I got tired real quick with just some steps, my vision used to numb black and started to have tachycardia, at first I went to a cardiologist think I had heart issues and he diagnosed me with hyperthyroidism. While in treatment I had just one eyeball with back inflammation, it was really tough because my face looked really asymmetrical, I went trough a 10 week treatment and got a little chubby but then I lost the weight. I’ve been weighting 36-38 kg since I was 15 and I got to 40 kgs for the first time last year with almost 2 years in treatment and I’m 25 years old now. I’m not a doctor but I really enjoy these videos as they help me to understand a lot of exams and get to know what symptoms can show through these conditions. Thank you!!

@@DrJamesGill Thank you so much, I’m from México, I was treated here by a really good cardiologist Dr Luis Eng, and he sent me with an also really good endocrinologist Dr Verna Mendez. Since I was a teen I went through a lot of medical appointments for years because of my very low weight and they used to tell me it was hereditary because of my parents weight until I was 23 and was properly diagnosed. My thyroid was really inflamed and sometimes it hurt. I started taking 4 and 1/2 pills of 10mg thiamazole daily, now I take 1/2 of 5mg 1 day and 1 day not, and my thyroid is not swollen anymore, I’m gaining weight, I don’t have heart/pressure issues anymore, and I sleep really well now, I have a little of double vision, I take a daily pill of selenium (my doctor says it’ll help) but my double vision was worse so I think I’m getting better 😎👍🏻

I got diagnosed for my hyperthyroidism by... an aesthetician, noticing bald patches in my eyebrows. So... There's that. :p (well when I say "diagnosed" I mean they encouraged me to get tested, which I did, and the blood test confirmed their suspicion)

it’s often surprising where the impetus to get checked comes from.
you were clearly very lucky 😊

Dr Gill, is this the norm protocol for gp's? I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 2 years ago, the only tests my gp did was blood tests. No-one has even touched my neck nevermind anything else. I'm in Ayrshire, Scotland. 🙂

I just had my annual gynecologist appointment and he checked my thyroid. Perhaps because it’s hormone related? I had a physical with my GP the week before and he did not check my thyroid.

I'm especially interested in this as I'm having bother with my thyroid at the minute... There is a nodule on it that my specialist wants to biopsy so I'm heading off to get a needle stuck into my throat in a few days. Good times 🙄
Honestly most health issues I've had over the years have all come back to my hypothyroidism...hormone issues, bowel problems, weight gain etc etc

Now I'm going to want an update! Ciara don't leave me hanging. I'm so sorry you've had some many issues. You're going to be in my thoughts.

Update...its been quite the year! They did the biobsy, then 'lost' me in the system and I got a phone call out of the blue recently to book me in for an urgent repeat biobsy as there were abnormal cells. It got sorted and I went in today for results and it turns out the abnormal cells are TH3 (scale of 1 to 5) but within that there is a '3a' or a '3f', I'm 3f and there is a 15% chance the nodule is already cancerous. So, the right lobe needs to be removed and they'll check it, if there's cancer then the left side comes out and I go for radiation therapy. Fun times ahead!
