How to perform a Thyroid Gland Examination - Clinical Skills Revision
The thyroid examination is one of the first sessions of the clinical skills block for medical students at Warwick Medical School - largely as it touches lightly on other clinical areas, such as the cardiac examination, and the peripheral neurological examination making it an excellent starting point for building further knowledge
This is a clinical examination of the thyroid gland is performed by Dr James Gill following the approach in Macleod’s Clinical examination.
-------------------
Please note that there is no ABSOLUTE way to perform a clinical examination. Different institutions and even clinicians will have differing degrees of variations - the aim is the effectively identify medically relevant signs.
However during OSCE assessments. Different medical schools, nursing colleges and other health professional courses will have their own preferred approach to a clinical assessment - you should concentrate on THEIR marks schemes for your assessments.
The examination demonstrated here is derived from Macleods Clinical Examination - a recognised standard textbook for clinical skills.
Some people viewing this medical examination video may experience an ASMR effect

"Always"
Putapitapaper forever!!
Love the Harry Potter line drop in there 👌😁
😂😂😂
As much of a Classic as a “Navy suit for war,” Saul Shaye, and/or apologizing for one’s sandwich breath!
🤣🤣🤣
It’s “navy suit for WORK.” Lol 😂
@@HarmonicChaos. it’s comforting to know there are folks out there that get the references!
As much as “welcome to departure space tours…”
@@willlyhickey I love that video, I really wish they had made more! I’ve watched other tailors and bespoke suit makers, but none compare to the smooth relaxing sound of that gentleman’s voice. It’s simply wonderful.
The ASMR community yearns for the return of Lucy Brown. The woman, the myth…the legend. A pioneer of the art, a woman ahead of her time…a trailblazer!
We should start a GoFundMe to get her a pedicure. 😄

"No you're both great doctors"
Lol😂
Was recently a surface anatomy model at the Warwick Medical school. Whenever I mentioned Dr. Gill and his videos (part of the asmr triad including "Navy suit for war" and "sandwich breath"), those students and staff inspecting me always spoke with high praise and great respect for him!
The anatomy team are brilliant. Significantly bigger brains than mine!
Will you be assisting again?
@@DrJamesGill I was asked if I could next Monday and Tuesday for the exams! However due to my current commitments with the Warwick CTE I can't! A shame since I met tons of great people and learned a lot!
all the videos you mentioned are part of my list haha - “I'm looking for a navy suit for war” Okay, step this way sir!
@@Stabile1997 The ASMR community is vast and full of surprises! 😃
I see that all of us ASMR dorks all watch the same videos. 🤣🤣🤣
Don’t forget to be lovely and floppy as you’re going to be the best dressed navy suit, for war ever.
"Now then, first off, if you could put your hands out for me..."
*sees ring*
"This concludes our examination."
That's funny! 😉
I really like how he reboot himself at 0:50
1:02 The iconic moment
The disappointment I felt when I was told my medical school doesn’t require the paper part in our thyroid examination. Absolutely gutted.
It’s not required, but it seems a churlish thing to omit, given it increases the accuracy of finding a fine tremor!
They’re being retired!? Thank you for keeping them alive for us!
There are a few technical issues with them - hence redo’s
This man could have a playlist of thyroid examinations.
It’s more that I’ve tried to improve as I’ve gone along with regard to the editing
The look Lucy gave Dr Gill after he said the famous line was a look of a woman who knew she was going to be immortalised forever !!!
Thank god this channel can act as the "Museum of primordial ASMR memes"
Who else listens to These videos regularly after being out a couple of years? Fantastic.
Wow. This is vintage unintentional ASMR, I think this might well have been my original gateway to Dr Gill. Amazing to have it back on too.
Gateway to Gill. Sign me up!
thats not ASMR

Legendary. Anyways, thank you Dr. Gill for learning you had some odd internet niche going and actually embracing it. While a lot of us fell in love with your voice, I've factually learned a lot of medical things from these and your other videos(even the ones that are clearly not any type of ASMR I always watch, love the A-Z vids). I think it's actually been quite useful for a lot of viewers to learn what their examiners could be looking for during various examinations, as well as potentially helping to communicate problems better with their doctors. Also, I hope the asmr crowd actually helped boost your videos to a wider med-student audience, because your bedside manner and respect for patients is impeccable.
I think this was the first medical exam I ever watched. In my recommendations one day, and that's when I found out they're quite relaxing
Top marks for a revisit of PUTAPITAPAPER! I’ve watched this video hundreds of times now and it never gets old. Came for the ASMR and stayed for the medical education. ❤️❤️
1:02 change my entire life
You’ve come a long way Dr. Gill. Still enjoying all the content you make.
I recently had a cardiologist appointment and the Dr dropped his head just like Dr Gill while checking my pulses and I almost burst out laughing. Managed to stifle a giggle. ❤️
Lol I would busted out laughing, make the doctor mess up.
😅😅 I probably would crack up too.
Thanks for keeping the old videos in the archives
Thanks for preserving an all-time ASMR classic!
This is the one. This is what made me fall in love with ASMR. Truly the GOAT.
The differences between one of the first upload and the most recent one is stark, such an improvement in room and production quality.
Thank you Dr. Gill for reuploading this clip onto your channel. It would not be the same without the epic comments section.
These were the videos that introduced me and got me hooked to Dr. James, and up until now. He’s a legend!
I appreciate you re-uploading these here!
What a voice.
I watched this SOOOO many times. 💙
Iam glad these were only removed from the school channel. Not deleted. Happy to see you're allowed to upload them here.
Go Dr Gill!! Smashing it as always 👌👌
this was the first unintentional ASMR I watched and possibly the finest. Years later it still works better than zolpidem :-)
this is the video of all ASMR videos! putabitapaper is legendary in my circles!
Omg thank you! I was so saddened that I couldn’t find this video on their channel!
This is one of the video that makes me enjoy your videos, it was so calming.

Does no one appreciate how bang tidy the patient is?
Such a great feeling for us that Dr James has a great sense of humour about ASMR!! 😄 Being a great doctor he is also staying a very cool dude! And this sh*t is a challenge nowadays! Respect!! 👍
He really does 😊 I actually have learned a lot from these videos- not a student- but I just find them very interesting.
Thankyou for saving one of my favourite videos.

I remember seeing this video so long ago but for some reason it never clicked in my head that is was the same Dr. Gill even though your name is in the title 🙄 It was probably the different hair style that thew me off. It's like a Clark Kent/Superman anomaly for my brain apparently.
you should do an exam of her ankles, she has had some kind of surgery on the left one.
Any double vision ? No, how many times do I have to tell you both !
I just came back to here the pptpptptptpt 🤣 I love this video
