"we don't complain when women dominate something like nursing, we shouldn't complain when men dominate something like physics"
BOOM headshot
Are men told not to be nurses explicitly?
Example?
I would like to ask u the same question Katherine. Are women told not to be in STEM field? don't give the example of the guy in the video because he is just an individual and he is entitled to his own opinion.
@@katherinejerke2937 milo's end points hits the nail on the head here. The world that the vast majority of feminists preach (at least in the UK) is not one that I see. Furthermore, so what if only 20% of physics students are female, for example I was one of the only males who did Food Tech at GCSE, why is that not considered a crisis. People have their preferences, if women want to take other subjects then let them. As Milo said, the structures that was previously stopping women decades ago has been worked out of the system and the vast majority of feminists that argue otherwise just don't see the system that is in place today in 2018

Actually men face sexism in nursing and need help there. I personally know a man who wanted to be a nurse and did all the schooling but then once he went into the field he was told that it’s a “feminine job” and so he quit and joined the military 😕

Emily : No it's men's fault.

The number of women in STEM is increasing though... so where did he get that statistic?
unesdoc.unesco.org/images/0023/002351/235155E.pdf
Not only is he wrong according to the United Nations Education, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation. But the countries he compared were completely arbitrary and do not represent the highest or lowest representations for stem majors... That's misrepresenting data by implying a correlation that doesn't exist.
+Cory Mck It wasn't about stem majors it was about the socio-economic status of the nation as a whole of which Norway is more advanced than Bangladesh
+Cory Mck It wasn't about stem majors it was about the socio-economic status of the nation as a whole of which Norway is more advanced than Bangladesh
FunnyMuslim
No, it was purposefully misleading because he compared the impact of Norway and Bangladesh's socioeconomic status to the difference in the stem majors of those respective countries. Again, he related 2 things that didn't correlate to imply that women in stem was an universal issue caused by females, but it isn't.
Yeah, a lot of women are crybabies. Luckily, I had 3 older brothers that toughened me up. I get embarrassed when I see other women crying at work.
jmomm very unprofessional
jmomm Makes me proud of my two sisters, both in law enforcement. My dad teased my younger (by 11 years) sister about getting married, she (literally) broke his collarbone with one punch.
I pity anyone that thinks because they're girls they need to be treated differently or they'll be push overs.
jmomm I was on a student film set with 2 women co-directors. There was not a single day where 1 of them didnt have to leave for 5-10 minutes and cry about something that went wrong. Then I went to another student film set and the single male director accomplished more than both of the girls did and only had 1 moment where he got flustered because of equipment failure, but after 10 seconds of being emotional he brushed it off and starting trying to find solutions to the problem.
I have had to work with a lot of girls in my department at school, yet only a handful would I trust to get the job done. I would trust those girls more than the average guy, but at the same time I would trust the laziest guy to do something faster and better than the average girl.
Not sexist, just my experience
Joel Rowe I agree completely. We should also make the military requirements for women the same as men. It isn't fair that some men fail to make it into the military when they would have if they were being held to the same standards the women are. It also isn't fair we are sending young women to die because they pass tests that have ridiculously lower requirements than the men's do.

when I was in middle school, there was this big new science program offered in the mornings. I quickly quit the program because if they weren't going to allow the male students the same opportunity, I didn't want to participate in such blatant sexism.

same thing in my secondary school. only girls were invited to go to the new science department at a different school. ngl I hated it, not because there were no guys (I didn't realise until now that it was just for girls), but because I had no passion for science but in a way, I felt like 'oh she says there aren't any girls in science so I should go to learn about how I could change that', so I felt kind of obliged to do it. Ah, respectfully I disagree, though there actually were even times when Milo took a minute to bow his head and listen. She merely acknowledged that women can be emotional, (she specified that many women are not, and that anomalies exist, among everyone) but that should not affect any other aspect of her career. For somebody as extreme in his views as Milo, they actually reached a fairly decent consensus.
@@itsrainingmelons6202 dumb... listening isn't a sign of agreement. It's a sign of being civilized. The woman presented a bunch of assumptions, and he gave facts. Also, what consensus?? There was literally no consensus reached. She still kept her narrative that the discrepancy is all due to patriarchy and he still maintains that women are just no interested in the fields, which is the actual truth, even in the most equal countries where women are actually forced to have as much contact with stem fields than men, where women are dominating the younger academic levels and universities, they still run from STEM careers. Thats the problem with Modern Feminism. Especially in the US and the UK.
I work in a female-dominated work environmeent (Fashion Design) and every one i work with consider themself Feminist but they actually focus on real problems that women face.
When one of my french colleagues showed me the whole Tim Hunt Drama at work she said:
"Pseudo-Feminists like the ones who complained about Hunts comments and other non-issues is damaging real Feminism. They make women look like overly-emotional weak creatures by overreacting to that guys comments."
I wonder if these Pseudo-Feminists (who are usually american or british) realize that they FEED the bad stereotype about women by being outraged about such nonsense.
As my 47 year old manager who is a Feminist said:
"Those american new-wave feminists damage everything Feminism is about."
I couldn't agree more. Luckily Feminism in Germany, France, Belgium etc. is not as insane yet. Yes, we have tiny groups of that outrage-culture type aswell.
But every Feminist i know from these countries is the logical type that focus on real issues - think Prof. Christina Sommers = Real Feminism.

Women: feelings and emotions.

My sister is top of her class in maths and science yet does not want to go into any field related to those subjects. Knowing her I really don't think it has anything to do with her gender or her feeling intimidated by the "male environment".

MyKeyMoonShine Girls are sheep. Consequently , they are very good at following orders. Boys tend to be far more individualistic and willing to challenge authority. Boys tend to be not as studious at school, but when they grow up they are the ones doing the innovating and inventing, as always. Most women go into fluff jobs.
TheIslamicAtheist No, obviously my little piece of circumstantial evidence was not an attempt to claim that. No need to put words in my mouth and call me names. You are free to disregard it as circumstantial. It was not an attempt to prove anything about ALL WOMEN, it was to question the narrative that was being presented. I really don't think women are as pathetic as some people are trying to claim they are but I am not an expert in such things and never claimed to be. xx
Extraterrestrial Prose Most boys are not studious at school and whey they grow up, they go into Trades. Its only a minority of beta male nerds from school who go on to build academic careers. Women on the other hand are equipped to work in social settings and since STEM jobs lack it they feel less motivated to go into it.
Men are sheep not women. Women's social groups are based on familial structure while men are based on power. Women work together while men follow their leader like blind sheep. This is especially evident in Prison where men construct themselves based on followers and leaders (gangs) while women re-create a familial structure with sisterhood bonds.
MyKeyMoonShine The woman in the video actually speaks the truth while Milo gave a very quasy unsophisticated analysis of what is going on. Stereotype effect is very powerful and deters women going into male dominated fields. Even women who are very good at math feel they would not be good enough in competition with the other men. Not to mention the reputation of STEM Fields being sexist and lack any female socialization. This is definitely one of the two key factors why women go less into STEM fields and contributes women to have poor confidence about it.

Milo's face at 2:45 - god tier truth trolling.
I will never understand a woman who goes into a male-dominated field of expertise and expect to be given special treatment.
The saddest thing is: there ARE women who are competent and confident enough to compete with men and these women would take it as an insult if men were to treat them differently. And these women would be entirely disqualified if feminists ever had their way.
I like how the math and science teacher basically *agrees* with the old Nobel Prize that women can't take criticism without crying, but argues that this must *not be said* otherwise it will hurt poor fragile women's feels and that is the reason there is a gender gap in STEM fields.
Her argument is based on the assumption that the old scientist is correct. How about feminists make some introspection and go back to empowering women, to not fear competition, instead of trying to build ''safe spaces'' where their feels must never be hurt by facts at odds with their emotions, because they consider women as ''perpetual victims of everything''.
Oh, now look at that, what did the feminist do after losing the debate? She went to cry on twiter trying to paint the debate as ''mysoginy''. How intellectually dishonest from her.
Way to reinforce the stereotype that some women are incapable to learn from critique, instead it must be all about their feels bein hurt by those mean facts proving them wrong. A very bad example to set for women.
Familha Gaudir No, she doesn't mean that it must not be said, she's saying that it must not be seen as an inherently inferior thing to do, that traditionally feminine things are somehow inherently bad.
We have equality of opportunity, feminists want very selective equality of outcome where it benefits them.
So, she agreed with every point of what Tim Hunt said, but then wants to turn around and claim that the comment was bad and shouldn't have been said. 10/10 for doublethink I guess.

As soon as her opponent was revealed to be Milo, it was already over.
Yesterday, scientists for the FDA suggested that men should take a look at their beer consumption, considering the results of a recent analysis that revealed the presence of female hormones in beer. The theory is that drinking beer makes men turn into women. To test the finding, 100 men were fed 6 pints of beer each. It was then observed that: 1) 100% of the men gained weight, 2) talked excessively without making sense, 3) became overly emotional, 4) couldn't drive, 5) failed to think rationally, 5) argued over nothing and, 6) refused to apologize when wrong. No further testing is planned.

I also trained and worked as an actress and I now combine my skills in my work as a science communicator and broadcaster; explaining science for a wide range of TV and radio programmes and at live events. I teach all three science subjects and maths at all academic levels (I have taught in two London schools and tutored over 180 private students) and I also work as a freelance communication skills trainer."
qualification to talk about why women aren't in science: none
I like how she said the comment was "irresponsible". Not "wrong", just "irresponsible".
Ffs
Radical thought of the day: Let people choose what they want to study and support them. Don't herd them into a particular field because of a personal agenda.
Lord Milo destroyed her! I thought doctors were supposed to be smart!
+Ruby McPhillips He backed down!! He re-framed his narrative. She was the complete winner of that debate.
+Collen Keaney And how did he back down? She was in no way the winner
He did, he agreed that Dr. Tim Hunt should not have said what he said, which was what the debate was about. In fact Milo just went to a different side of stereotyping and blamed Hunt for being old. However I know plenty of people much older than Dr. Hunt and Milo who are of a much better social caliber. Dr. Grossman was the winner since Milo ended up agreeing to her over most of her points. Watch again, and think critically. I'm not a feminist fyi.
the topic is "Sexism in Science"... the old guy just sparked the conversation but isn't the discussion piece.
She lost on every single ground brought up... with your one exception that Milo didn't state to disagree on.
Dr. Grossman didn't lose on her other points, because he didn't acknowledge her points. He deflected to statements that are popular in feminism, and she had to keep trying to bring him back on topic. Then when he was losing he would lie saying young boys are at a disadvantage, which isn't true.
”Girls should get into science” Doctor whom works as a math teacher.
Every year or so I like to
Come back to this video. Always brings a chuckle
She supported the point made by Nobel Scientist Tim Hunt, when she claimed women are not strong enough to compete with men in a normally competitive environment, and therefore must be treated differently. Milo went on to remind her that women are on average, earning more in their 30s, graduating university at a higher rate than men, etc. Whatever may have been a problem in the past, has become a problem for men, not women, now.
Milo played his trump card- logic and reasoning. It was super effective and totally bamboozled then.
The look on this woman's face was priceless! She's obviously not used to having her ideological rubbish challenged.
Note how she contradicts herself in the same sentence: 'It's important for women to be able to compete in a male environment but these women need [special] support and help'.
She needs to look up the definition of competition.
Brilliant job from Milo!
She might as well have just said women should get the 'pussy pass'.
Robert Smith Yes, that's pretty much what she DID say
Emily is just proving Tim Hunt's point all over again...
I like how she argues his point about men and women having different brains when she says that women are more “naturally self-reflective”.
Milo represents the truth, Dr. Grossman (unsurprising name for a feminist), represents feminism. Truth vs ideology, truth wins.
scientist says women don't take criticism well. Feminists did not take that criticism well. Spot the irony
Milo smashed this feminist. Well done.
he really didn't..
@@takoa2626 yes he did, metaphorically of course.
Think about this: Yiannopoulos is arguing that men’s and women’s brains are different, and men are intrinsically better at the science stuff. But Yiannopoulos is a college dropout, twice over, has no background in science at all (just like he has no background in gaming, either, but then no amount of ignorance will stop him from plowing on). It’s not clear what he studied in college, but it seems to have been journalism or English, not science. His male brain seems to be trained in muckracking, lying, and hackery.
Sikk What did he lie about? Men are more suited for certain fields of studies.
UsurperOfThrones he is a moron. Of course men and women are different, but some women are better at male jobs than men and some men are better at female jobs than women. He is just an idiot who has no credentials to back up his "wealth of knowledge" he thinks he has.
Men are better suited based on what exactly?
If anything, fields like neuroscience have confirmed there's a slight biological "trait" in the sexes when it comes to brain structure, but at the same time the differences between individuals are actually much bigger.
Surmoka ok.
As a strong educated wife, mother and grandmother I’m embarrassed by this woman simplistic view on life. Encouragement and empowerment begins at home and so there’s no reason to cry 😭 in class or to a professor or colleague!!! Today’s third wave feminism is just trash, they even put down the real feminists that stood strong and made a difference!! Now these younger women complain and whine about everything, it’s sickening to watch!!!!
She made no sense at all. I wasn't able to count how many contradictions I've heard in her speeches. The worse thing was when she simply stated that ''girls are going to do worse (and she actually says that it has been shown they do, like there was a study proving it officially, without any numbers or methodology manipulation) when they recognize and identify themselves as females in tests/exams, because they self-reflect themselves and think they're going to fail''. WHERE IS THE LOGIC ON THIS? I couldn't process this on my mind, cuz it's simply one of the most ridiculous and nonsense thing I've ever heard in my life It's basically saying that women are extremely emotional and unable to think for themselves while facing the slightest disadvantage or difficulty. PURE VICTIMHOOD AND OPPORTUNISM HERE.
Based on her arguments, she openly affirms that women are being disencouraged and not receiving enough support as they should because they ''feel'' diminished, not welcome, afraid, rejected.
Milo won the debate using only his hair...
Why dont feminist worry about the gender inequality in construction work or in lower paid manual labour work?
And this is why I'm going into the STEM field
The most satisfying moment in this video is the laugh of the moderator when Milo delivered his punchline...😆
I have a thought. After Milo's last comment they didn't show her face... Now this is just my stupid idea but I think it could be because her face is frozen in a dumbfounded state from the sheer ownage Milo just laid down.
Fosfor9 I disagree. It's because she's crying.
Or maybe it's an uncontrollable river of tears with a dumbfounded look. Sounds stupid but the image of her in that state brings me immense joy.
I took biology, chemistry, maths & further maths at A-Level and I never once felt inferior to the boys nor felt the need to compete. I did extremely well and, not meant in a boasting manner, but most of them were actually competing with me as I was often the one with top marks in the class. I then went on to study Neuroscience at university and my course was actually made up of around 80% female.
Yep, doing my Masters in Neuroscience rn and my course has 3 men, 22 women
Milo A+ buddy. To be fair I don't think this woman realized the totality of her postilions and was not prepared for a competition. This is almost the point milo is making. How much would people bet that milo did his homework before this interview and the woman just glided through expecting a caricature to show up.
That lady has the most hypocritical and poorly structured argument I have ever seen on tv.
I agree with milo. This is sad for men who are better than women in some sciences but cant get into university or cant get a job since nowadays we have to give women "opportunities"
I just love the irony of the whole thing:
Tim Hunt: "In my experience, women tend to react poorly to criticism and..."
Feminists: "OMG...how dare he...what a sexist *****...he's ugly...fire him from his job"
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-33090022
Genius professor says women cry when they're criticised.
Women cry in response.
Genius gets sacked.
Political correctness everyone. It's good for society! Really!
It could be my AUTISM but did she make the argument that statistically when girls write down their female names they will do worse? I might have misunderstood that. Do women complain about being under-represented among boilermakers too?
The faces the science teacher is making is priceless cause she just thinking I’m sounding so stupid right now
I was a teacher for 20 years. My observation is that it was the boys who lacked confidence. Girls and young women are encouraged and less likely to face consequences for bad conduct. The were encouraged to do everything and rewarded for everything.
As in boys weren’t rewarded and faced consequences for the same stuff the girls did?
I hate to say this but it seems kinda,
(Guess the word)
