  • The Multiplus II 2x120 is a great Inverter option for 50 Amp RVs. This video is what we have learned from using it and how it has worked for us. This Inverter is the best power solution with the most features I have seen. It has impressive output and gives a lot of capabilities to your RV. While it has many things it can do, the main feature is that we can have clean reliable power anywhere without a generator including power for our RV fridge while we drive and supply a boost to our shore power when 50 amp isn’t available. In the video I also walk through the details of installing it on our RV. Here is the link to the install diagram.

    You are ‘da bomb’!!!!
Instead of one T-fuse I used an MTBF fuse on each positive battery terminal, just a slight edge on safety. I also put an on-off switch on the positive side (after the shunt of course) so anytime I have to work on the positive battery cables there is no ground connection for them to short across a random wrench or dropped screwdriver.

I'm an electrical engineer, and I'm impressed with the level of design detail in this. I would recommend some better lugs for the high current cables, with more metal and surface area to connect to the batteries. This implementation is forcing a lot of electrons through some (IMO) undersized cable lugs, which can get hotter than they should. Nice job, especially on the fusing and disconnects.

Thank you! thank you! thank you! Brother, I cannot thank you enough. Your videos, diagrams and knowledge that you have passed on, has taken the fear out of doing this setup. My father and I were able to put together pretty much the same system you showed above...including the install of the cerbo gx. Took us 2 days to assemble, one day to sort everything out and install and we went active on day 3. Following your diagrams and videos allowed us to have a trouble free and very successful install and first flip of the power over to batteries to run our rig! Great Review Jared! Just want to make sure I fully understand your setup. Tell me if I've got my couple of points right. 1) Your switch marked RV Load Disconnect cuts power from the MPPT to the Batteries. 2) Your Bus Bars are used for 12V supply to your 12V Breaker panel section and your Tow Vehicle Charging from either the MPPT or Battery as situation permits, if MPPT has higher voltage than Battery, it will charge batteries and feed 12V Fusebox. (Sorry not sure if MPPT is powered from Solar only or 12V battery or Both as available.) Thanks for all your hard work!

Ive been ready to install an inverter for the past year and a half, but ive not been able to get the information ive needed....til now. thank you...
its nice to have the parts list to work from when trying to choose parts, but there is way more parts (options) listed than is shown in the video.... it would be so helpful if the parts shown in the vid were separate from the optional parts... OR, mark them as optional....
I watched your previous video using the SPS unit, only to find out the SPS unit is no longer made, which brought me here... and now, as im trying to make a "to purchase" list, I find myself confused as to which of the parts on that list is needed for a complete install of a victron inverter/charger on a motorhome.... I want to run 1 AC unit, and still have power to operate the microwave for a short period... the MH has 30a shore power, and an 800amp battery bank.... thanks for any additional help that you can offer.

Dude, are you psychic or something? We just got a Jayco White Hawk 29BH which has a 50-amp system and you have just described my ultimate power system. Your content and presentation are great and I am an avid consumer of your videos. This one (as well as many others) I've watched a few times now. In part because it is oh so relevant to where I want to get with my Jayco. But, where do I start? I can't afford a big bang approach. I need to spread out my cash flow and build out this configuration over time. Can you do a video as a corollary to this one that lays out a logical sequence of steps to a build-out over time? Here is what I'm starting with: 1) a go Power 190-watt solar panel roof-mounted; 2) a Go Power GP-PWM-30-UL Bluetooth solar controller mounted in the bedroom; 3) I have upgraded the AGM 88 Ah Marine batter to a 100 Ah Lithium; and 4) a Progressive Dynamics PD4560 power converter on which I've moved the mode switch to LI. This Jayco does not come with an inverter. My current upgrade plan is 1) expand the battery bank to 200 Ah in a box on the tongue; 2) install a hardwired EMS; 3) add the Victron 500 amp SmartShunt; 4) add the MultiPlus II and 400 amp T fuse; 5) add 2 x 190-watt solar panels; 6) upgrade the PWM solar controller to MPPT, and 7) increase battery bank further to between 300 and 400 Ah (perhaps moving it inside the front storage area). If lucky, I'll complete all these steps by end of 2022. But it might take me well into 2023. Is this plan reasonable or short-sighted? I suspect many of your subscribers would love to see you outline an upgrade path, and if you want to critique my plan I promise I can stand the embarrassment as long as I learn from it.

Nice work!... BTW, on your diagram:
You may consider connecting the "RV Load Disconnect and Fuse" on the "load" side of the (+) Busbar.
That way the MPPT can still charge the Batteries if/when you decide to disconnect the "DC loads".
Also, have you considered a "Victron Lynx Distributor"? (it makes for a real clean look)

I have purchased the Victron distributor and have a similar model GD RV. I am planning this system in my RV.. I’ve built a backer board and the made shelf brackets and am starting to lay out the parts. I’m going with a larger 150/100 mppt and space is starting to become an issue….the distributor and the 150/100 charge controller add a considerable footprint to what Jared shows here.

Watched this video like 5 times and probably will watch many more. I was looking at upgrading my 5yo charging system on my 2017 Thor Outlaw 38RE to add LiFePo4 batteries and solar. I think this is my future setup. Placed my order for most of the larger parts yesterday and am now on a waitlist for the Victron MultiPlus II 2x 120V (expected by end of June). Now trying to mentally retrofit this system into my existing using wire schematics and order the incidentals. Fun times. How about a follow-up video Jared? It was never actually said...so I am confirming -- that this setup (w power assist) will feed my trailer a full 50a service - whether plugged into shore or not. Yes? If plugged into 30s shorepower, it will compensate by drawing from solar/batteries to power the breaker box w 50a. Yes? Sooooo we are as good as being plugged into 50a shore power? Do I understand that right? Thx and you do an awesome job. No wasted time. Great editing! Can anyone confirm?

    • @AllAboutRVs
      @AllAboutRVs  Рік тому +1

Close. It will assist and additional 2400 watts. A full 50 amp service is 12,000 watts and a 30 amp service is 3,600 watts. The Multiplus inverter will assist adding the 3,600w 30 amps with the 2,400watts from the inverter for 6,000 watts total you can use. When on a 50 amp service everything works as normal as it passes through the full 12,000watts. I hope that helps!

Thanks for the great video!! Question and sorry if you answered this already.
    1. You talked about the orientation of the inverter as vertical. Can you mount horizontally?
    2. My rig is “inverter ready” with wiring ready. Question is that I have labeled “inverted outlet” plugs in my rig… if I wire the inverter with the “inverter ready” wiring. Will it only power those inverted outlets?
    3. If so, if I want to power the entire rig I should run new wiring from inverter directly to the rig panel correct?
Thanks for your time and hope to meet up on the road somewhere.

Such an in depth walkthrough, so much to unpack! I’ve watched this scores of times and studied the wiring diagram, but still have a few questions.
I understand you run the AC wires from the MP II to the breaker panel through PVC conduit. Should I use the same 6 gauge THHN wire from my Automatic Transfer Switch to the MP II, and should I also use conduit for that run as well? If so, can I use the same conduit to run both sets of wire? (My ATC & breaker panel are close to each other, but a long run from the MP II).
I don’t yet have a solar system, but plan to add it in the future. Is there any reason I shouldn’t use the buss bars now when wiring my system to connect just the battery bank, MP II, ATC, and breaker panel? (don’t plan on incorporating a DC to DC charger)
My thought is that this will simplify a future solar integration.
Thanks so much for all you do!

    • @PKriger

I have similar questions. Look at the video again and at 1:17 you can see the conduit for both runs into and out of the inverter. Also at this point it looks to me that the THHN wiring is different gauges. The green ground looks thinnest (10ga?). Black and red hot wires look about the same (8 ga?) and the white neutral looks to be the largest (6 ga?). Using THHN allows you to do this where you can’t with Romex. THHN wires have higher amperage ratings than their Romex equivalents. And it makes sense, as more current (from both hot legs)will return through that white neutral wire.

So on this build did you basically just ignore everything wiring related on the RV that was existing except for the rv breaker panel? It looks like you even took the existing power input and rewired it to go to the multiplus? And run new wires to the breaker panel? Did you leave existing point of load wiring and plugs inside? I just bought a toy hauler and planning my build out so I'm trying to get an idea of what I need to keep, rewire, or replace.
