@@francescoevangelista1448 Not just me then?
gotta thank Sideshow Bob from The Simpsons for directing me to this absolutely amazing operetta, especially this absolute banger of a song
What? Never?
@@saltyoddball550 no never!
I love how this is the only thing both Simpsons and Family guy took their gags from, yet both were taken in completely different directions.
The choreography is so over the top I can't help but chuckle
Thats the idea...
The way the captain walks is just like
*Exaggerated Swagger, but not from a black teen*
That's literally the point, you unholed donut
Coming here from the Essgee's version, I'm like "omg, how drought and boring, where's the pizzazz?"
@@chrise1491 You monster

The comedic timing here is so perfect. The music begins to sweep up as he walks off stage like a doofus all with that giant grin across his face. Then it cuts to his crew who are just standing there, stiff as logs with these blank expressions on their faces. And the camera stays on them just like a millisecond too long, making it so awkward and funny.
Then it cuts back to the captain who now changes up his walk to an even goofier one and begins to sing.
Then it cuts back to his crew who previously could have been played by mannequins, now spring out of their spots and click their heels.
It’s perfect. Cinematic beauty.
Also right before at 0:21 they do that shuffle and it just adds to the beauty.
Good comment 👍
A beautiful analysis and I wholeheartedly agree. The choreography and cinematography are very well combined.
He's dancing and cheerful and woman shows up with 'sir you're sad'.
Typical. A guy is happy when he's out with his buds then a girl shows up and brings the misery lol
Women, am I right?
Well yeah, this outward cheerfulness is unseemly of a Naval Captain. A happy Captain is focused, serene, and concerned primarily with the operation of his ship. A captain ill-at-ease seeks excessive intimacy with his crew. It's the same moral as the first few episodes of Our Flag Means Death.
I have never - in my life - had the desire to see a stage musical. But I’d like to see this.

Simpsons and Family Guy must have a real sense of culture for using this musical
Stewie Griffin you here, but true OGs are here because of Sideshow Bob
So the captain is just saying hi to his crew you know his buds they’re having a gay old time singing seas shanties and things. But then this lady comes down and... “sir you are sad”
And me: quite lady you’re ruining it!

Absolute gold.
Loved this version. Very good.
Family Guy bought me here
The chumminess of the captain does not correspond to my father's description of such a life in the navy... like... at all.
Thats why its a play taking the piss out off a certain story in the RN with a good captain .. over the top good.. and a really bad usless admiral above him who never actually was in the Navy.
This captain is a little bouncy than all the captain in this, just saying
0:26 When you just took the most unholy shit and walk out past the missus waiting to use the bathroom.

I've just recently begun listening to Gilbert and Sullivan and sing some of their tunes around the house but I can't remember the lyric to this song... I just keep singing the family guy version lol.
This campy shit gets my rocks off, this guy's the shit!
Family Guy brought me here.
He seems like a good captain honestly 🤣, I guess no real captain is this polite cause sailors are known for the exact opposite
that one sailor at 1:37 that looses his hat is hilarious to me.
I feel as though the captain in this would be better suited to the Major General in Pirates of Penzance.
I doubt he would, he wasn't even watchable on ths Hollywood Squares
Stewie griffin
Lol at the end.
0:00 - He expands and then collapses the telescope, but then expands it again for no apparent reason at 0:23

Before or after his unfortunate demise?
Family guy is awesome with a remake of this song with different words
Sideshow bob in the simpsons also did a fantastic job

I speak for myself that most people get there "culture" from the Simpsons, Family Guy and the looney toons.
Saw a Christmas special of Car 54....this song was sung as a tribute to Capt Block of the 53rd precinct.
Why does this remind me of Monty Python.
Okay be honest, which series brought you here:
1: Family Guy
2: Simpsons
3: Star Trek
Family Guy, Simpsons, Tracey Ullman, Benny Hill.... funny how this was used as a base over several generations. Talk about staying power
Leave it to Family guy to popularize this aria.
