  • Welcome back to the channel!
    Ted Stryker welcomes guitarist, songwriter, and overall good dude, Josh Klinghoffer to the Tuna on Toast Studio. Pluralone, Josh's band, just released another album titled This is the Show.
    Josh talks to Stryker about growing up in the Valley (Los Angeles) and listening to Morrissey, Depeche Mode, Guns N' Roses, AC/DC and Motley Crue.
    Josh tells Stryker how his Mom first signed him up for drums, not guitar.
    He started having friends (a full band) come over at an early age.
    At 15 Josh decided to pick up the guitar and learned to play without taking lessons.
    Josh and Stryker talk about how he is normally the youngest in the groups he plays with.
    Johs mentions the great Bob Forrest, the band Bicycle Thief and first meeting Bob.
    Josh tells Stryker about the "bloody battle" he had with his parents about dropping out of school.
    Josh's new album is called "This is the Show"! His band is Pluralone.
    The album was born during the pandemic.
    Clint Walsh (Dot Hacker) and Josh worked together and found great harmony (both life and musically)
    Josh also tells Stryker about first meeting Eddie Vedder and working on the album Earthling.
    Josh talks to Stryker about joining the Red Hot Chili Peppers at 30 years old and spending all of his 30's with them.
    The guys also discuss Pluralone opening for Pearl Jam and also playing guitar with Pearl Jam during their set.
    Josh tells Stryker about his growth as a person and a musician.
    Stryker has an idea for Josh to get coffee with Ilan Rubin from Nine Inch Nails and make some songs😊
    Stryker asks Josh how he feels TODAY about not being a member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers anymore.
    Josh and Stryker also talk about the work Josh and Chad Smith did with Morrissey! Josh says that Morrissey said it's his favorite album while it has not seen the light of day. The album is complete.
    Josh hopes the Morrissy album is released sooner than later!
    Josh Klinghoffer is such a talented person, I also had a great time chatting with him, thanks for watching, sit back and enjoy another episode of Tuna on Toast with Stryker

    Will always appreciate the Josh era. He brought a beautiful fresh take to the Chili Peppers. In the same way that John never sounded exactly like Hillel and didn’t need to, Josh brought exactly what was needed to the band.

      there are some good gems in there, but nothing compares to John being in the chili peppers. people have amnesia/take for granted because these songs have become so ubiquitous, we forget how magical and special they are. The songs and albums john contributed to are literally legendary and will stand the test of time. Stop saying stuff like "josh brough exactly what was needed to the band". The band was actually in top form for stadium arcadium and could have easily evovled on their sound for the subsequnet albums after before they took their hiatius and john decided to leave. They werent in any means "burnt out" and looking for a new direction by some new band member, are you serious dude? He saved the band in terms of keeping them together for a decade, and more imporantly being the type of musicin who was very comfortable with touring so it allowed the RHCP machine to stay alive for a decade.

      I wish John didn't come back this time around. Josh was getting so good and more comfortable and confident in his own skin towards the end of his run with the Peppers. I'm a Frusciante fan from way back but Josh deserved to stay on. He was playing far more interesting and creative live versions of old songs and John's parts.

      @@rickrick6933 100% John is magic, Josh was trying to keep up, he's a drummer playing some guitar, not a right fit for a band with one of the world's best guitarist. But I get it that he became important for younger folks that don't remember or care for john's era. But pretty much compare any live show, like let's say Rio 2006 wit fru (magical artistic experience) and the same festival in 2012 (that one is hard to listen to). With Josh they kinda sounded like cover band (what's funny flea said the same thing in one interview). I'm with you was heartbreaking weak album (went on cinema world premiere of it some people left, more were just super quiet, it went for excitement for new rhcp music to sadness pretty fast (brandon's death song though is great chad drumming there is spectacular) gataway was way better! not full on peppers magic, but beautiful soundscapes (I guess new producer comparing to rick rubin who likes it mono and simple gave the music some nice new dimension and made it sound more modern).

    His point about ticket costs is 100%. The people who can afford to go see the Rolling Stones or RHCP are usually boomers or suits. Nothin wrong with that except the kids who could be inspired can't get in unless they sneak in, and that's become harder to do these days. Josh is a cool dude, been listening to his solo stuff since before he was in RHCP. Stryker is awesome, too. Huge 311 fan as well :)

    Josh's contributions to RHCP are legendary and far under appreciated. It's sad that John seems salty that Josh kept the fire blazing while John chose to take a sabbatical. @@zippymufo9765 I have asked myself that and I can think of several reasons, but I disagree he would be a side-kick. Josh created some magical guitar riffs that John won't play. Authentic, smart, humble and talented. Can always rely on honest and thoughtful conversation from Josh - so hard to come by and I could listen to him all day.
    Powerful words on C….. (that annoying word 😆) Culture. I can see this is something he is really passionate about, as we all should be. I do feel there is a healthy undercurrent of dissent brewing against the so-called “wokies” so I remain hopeful. It’s okay to disagree with others and still respect their right to an opinion!
    Was fascinating but also very hard to listen to the extra context around his Chili Peppers dismissal. Even as a mere bystander, what the band did really bothered me and still does, so I can only imagine how he must have felt. All I can say is I only have admiration for how he has handled it, which is to say in the best possible way. All class and shows real strength of character. I find him to be a very inspiring individual.

      Some people get an unfair shake in the media and some people just get caught doing really bad stuff and have to live with it. I don't think "woke" is really an insult (better than being asleep) and some people supporting "free speech" are actually supporting hate speech. It's a fine line and people need to have respectful discussions if they want to be taken seriously.

    • @ohmydog9
      @ohmydog9 2 роки тому

      @@joshc9916 Yes, your last sentence is key. At least for me, the term “woke” does tend to hold a negative connotation to it these days as the movement, if that’s what you can call it, might have started with good intentions but it is increasingly being hijacked by virtue signalling and an absolute intolerance to unpopular views. I, for one, love hearing all kinds of opinions, even if I fervently disagree with them. Doesn’t it make for more interesting conversation? What I can’t stand is this situation of immediately shutting people down if they even dare utter an unpopular or politically incorrect opinion. Losing your career overnight over an unpopular remark or two is ridiculous. We have laws protecting society from hate speech, but everything outside of that must be protected by our basic right to freely express ourselves.

    • @ohwellwhateverr
      @ohwellwhateverr 2 роки тому

      @@joshc9916 Woke really is a cult. I’d rather be awake than be brainwashed in the insanities they put out.
      There’s also no such thing as hate speech. Free speech laws already have embedded within them exemptions that include threats of violence. But “hate speech” doesn’t exist. It’s a dangerous concept - who gets to decide what constitutes hate speech? All it does is provide a slippery slope into complete censorship against any dissenting view. If you’re in support of hate speech regulations, you haven’t thought it through.

    I’m sorry to say it took Josh leaving and John coming back for me to appreciate Josh and his work with the RHCP at the time. I had The Getaway and loved the obvious tracks like Dark Necessities. It’s only with the disappointment of RHCPs latest album that I went back and listened to the Getaway properly. For me it’s their creative peak.
