Healthy Chick, lol this is a video on how I grew my natural hair to the length everyone saw and still ask me about. This was not “how to grow hair with a GinaCurl”. I can understand being disappointed I’m not currently natural, but the information is for the many still inquiring about my natural hair.
I think it was helpful to share this way, rather than trying to help girls/guys by writing essays in their dms.

As someone who has 4c hair, I am NOT offended by the fact that she has a Gina curl and is giving tips, for the simple fact that she grew her 4C hair to waist length COMPLETELY natural, THEN had the Gina curl. Comprehensive skills are fundamental kids. At the end of the day, yes she has a Gina curl but 4c hair is what grows out of her head regardless 💕

@@fay7692 Honestly just finding products that work for you and I've learned more than anything, leaving your hair alone. I had a tapered cut, like my sides were shaved down, and in the span of a year its shoulder length (stretch out) because I lived my life in wigs and braids. Also when you're doing protective styles, remember to still take care of your hair or else the protective part to that phrase is useless. so if your wearing wigs make sure your hair is detangled, moisturized and tucked away neatly.. Also you dont need a load of products, a little really does go a long way. I have my shampoo and conditioner, a deep conditioner and then when I'm out the shower I just use a cream, an oil and a tiny bit of gel.

@@AllThatGlitter224 wow, thank you. My big problem is I'm low low porosity so I think I use a lot of cream when I do my twists outs every wash day and that stunts the growth.
I also used to wash my hair once a week but now I wash it every 2-3 weeks because im lazy cuz of quarentine
I also have not done a protective style since the start of my natural hair journey. My hair has been through years and years of heat and relaxer damage until just a year ago. I didn't do a big chop but it was significant
I would say my definitely hair grew thicker and a little bit longer, I really don't know the exact length but I started October 2019 and my hair is not where I thought it would be.
I definitely need to do protective styles because my hair grows a lot in braids, I just need to learn how to manage it while it's in braids.
I think protective styles and washing more frequently will help my hair grow more

I have 4c hair and I came across a video a girl made on how once she started deep conditioning with heat her hair started retaining so much moisture. I bought the same steaming cap that she had - it’s the kind you attach to your blow dryer. It seriously changed the moisture balance in my hair for the better. My hair has been thriving and retaining length ever since I bought that cap. Before it was like the moisture just wouldn’t stay in my hair no matter what I did and now I can apply nothing but a leave in and no oil and my hair stays soft and moisturized. I would highly recommend a steamer or a heated deep conditioning cap for any 4c girls who are low porosity.

    Here’s a list :)
    1. Don’t silk press/flat iron consistently (do as a 6month to a year (maybe even longer) basis).
    2. Apply more products to your ends than to your roots (they need more love than your roots).
    3. Trim your ends *every 3 months or so* because 4c is prone to split ends. Don’t use products for split ends.. just. get. a. trim. periodt!
    4. Coat your hair with oil. It’s a prectant and shield to the outside world! Olive oil, castor oil, and Argan Oil are good!
    5. Less manipulation is best. Don’t always be in your hair. Be gentle with your hair!
    6. Try your products on your hands to see if they’re actually doing what they’re supposed to do on your hair. If after some time with a product on your hand ends up drying out, it’s probably doing that on your hair as well.
    7. Use treatments that’ll target your ends if can. Don’t do treatments all the time, just when it’s needed.
    8. Keep your hair off your shoulders. Do more updos!

@@graciousgrace7509 I've been wearing medium-sized twists (about 30+ in total) and I moisturize every other day with water and seal with shea butter or oil.
Nope. No breakage. I don't even wear a bonnet anymore. I think that leaving ends out is a myth. As long as you keep them trimmed/even and moisturized they won't break.
My hair that hangs at the nape always grows best and it always touches/rubs my shirt in twists. It grows like a weed. It's my crown that was having issues so I was always at a length plateau.
So I make sure to lightly mist with water 3-4 times per week and seal with any butter or oil.
Yes the twists get a tad fuzzy, but they are strong, moisturized and I'm finally retaining length. I just throw them up in a loose, fun ponytail.
I had to learn to baby my crown section so it will grow as long as the rest of my hair. My crown was holding me back and my hair would always be in layers. I had to keep chopping the long parts at the neck because the crown wouldn't catch up with the rest.
Less is more! I use far fewer products and spend less time on my hair. Now that my twists are so long people think I have locs. I'm like no these are just twists.
Ladies, all you need are water and butter/grease to seal. Stop buying all these expensive products. You don't need them. Your hair just wants water and a seal.
Don't be afraid of the frizz and shrinkage. Find a style to wear that minimizes it. I don't drench my hair. I just spray my hand and squeeze the water into the twists. Then I add my butter, style and go.

During lockdown I’ve been so relaxed with my everyday styling and I noticed that most the damage I was having is due to styling. I (protective styles) braid my hair a lot but the matting and detangling was a whole process. Now I can finger detangle easy with fresh water and a little hair milk, oil the endz and done. Tension and over styling causing a lot of breakage.

Why'd you lie, you said ends more than 17x 😂 and I'm here for it.
Protip for anyone who needs it: Twists are one of the best hairstyles once you hit shoulder length because it's versatile. You can wear it in a bun, a ponytail, double/triple up the twists, braid the twists, bantu knot them, etc. and because the hair is already protected it doesn't harm you in terms of manipulation as long as you're watching out for your ends. Plus twists stay the most moisturized in my experience, you can wash your hair while it stays twisted, and once you take down the twists that's another 3-7 day style.
It's how I never hit a plateau. My hair stays from bra band to hip length (sometimes this thick hair is heavy and summers are too hot) because I twist it up!

    • @nibabi

I’m going to have to start twisting my hair. I’ve been kind of stuck at waist length. I do wash and go most of the time. So my curly hair stays around shoulder length which is waist length straight. I’ve also been trimming more often and I can feel the difference. I’m also using sulfur 8, oil and massage to up my game.

I don't have 4c hair (I have like 3b to 4a mix), but keeping hair off your shoulders is SO important. I was annoyed my hair would always sit on my shoulders no matter how hard I tried to grow it. I went to a stylist who noticed the right half was an inch shorter than the left. He asked what side I wear my bag on, turns out that when bag straps get caught on your hair they actually cause so much breakage. I think the same would apply to bra straps, earrings and necklaces.

I'm a natural hair stylist who specializes in silk presses & she's right!!! I've grown my 4 c hair out a hundred times, and it's really super easy. Pre schedule your trims, I do mine 4 times a year. I keep a protective style in, and I don't use glue for wigs. I probably wash my actual hair once every 4-6 weeks and I detangle with a wide tooth comb. I only use organic oils for my scalp (wild growth oil, or sheshappyhair tea tree growth oil) and I really don't use a lot of products in my hair other than a heat protectant (yes even if you don't put heat on your hair, ESPECIALLY in the summer) and a leave in conditioner. I like sheshappyhair (they're black owned) & design essentials almond and avocado line. They also have great deep conditioners. and then I use manuka and honey oil to seal in my moisture. For me to avoid heat damage I only flat iron my hair 3/4 times a year but that's only when I'm not trying to grow it out.

@@ElTee519 That was written two years ago so my process has changed! Once every 4/6 was supposed to coincide with my comment of keeping a protective style (braids, twist, locs) in for a month and then cleansing and conditioning in between. Now that I wear my hair out more and it's longer, I wash about once a week or once every two weeks. Every 2 weeks works for me since I'll do a style like twist the first week and use no product outside of my styling crème or mousse. Then day 7 I'll take down my twist and mist my hair with warm water, detangle And wear it in a bun or do two plaits and wear my closure wig during the day if I have to be social and do things lol. I keep my ends moisturized by using regular old grease! Softee from the dollar store or the blue magic. You can also use a heavy oil on the ends like black castor oil. Everyone's hair and scalp are different :) if I feel like my hair is dirty or dry I'll absolutely wash earlier. My "wash days" realistically only take about an hour or an hour and a half if I'm actually doing something to my hair. I can cut that time down to about 30 minutes. Now that my hair is longer, it's a lot easier to style and my curl pattern has loosened up a tiny bit

Sorry to say this but people who get Gina Curl claiming that it’s “easier”, just don’t like their type 4 hair. Cause honestly all hair is hard work. Relaxed hair ain’t easier to maintain than natural hair, it doesn’t grow any faster (your hair will grow at the same rate unless you are actually bald or balding from medical reasons) the ONLY difference is that it’s STRAIGHT. And I absolutely hate when people claim their hair just grows faster when they relax it, as if they don’t understand that straighter hair will appear longer than tightly curled hair. Duhh. Had to leave this comment as this is a video targeted to “4C girls”. Don’t give up on your natural hair.

As someone who has gone from relaxed to natural and has 4c hair , I disagree wholeheartedly. Relaxed hair is much easier to maintain for reasons that are scientific, not just cosmetic. Curly hair is weaker by nature because of the way the cells are put together, that's why kinky hair breaks easier than curly/straight hair when manipulated. The bends in the hair are weak points and can break. Add high porosity and high density and you have the toughest hair to maintain. It's just a fact. All hair grows, I do agree with that but length retention is not allowing the progress to break off. I have WAY more breakage or "shedding" now that im natural. I didnt have to detangle my relaxed hair, just had to moisturize...and detangling my 4c hair is pointless unless im styling it right then. In my opinion, type 4c hair LOOKS beautiful and exclusive. If it didnt tangle so much and I could run my hands through it smoothly it'd be perfect. I can get it like that sometimes but only through the max hydration method and that has to be maintained.

I have middle back length natural hair. My hair journey became increasingly difficult as my short faze fazed out into the long length faze and honestly it's going to get harder from this point onward because of the length. It'd tangle easier because my hair was getting a little longer than normal and I was getting a little breakage, so I just kept twisting my hair and leaving it alone for like maybe 2-3 months before taking it out, washing and deep conditioning/moisturizing before re-twisting again and leaving it alone for 2-3 months, If I got box braids (which I feel grows my hair a lot faster) I can leave them in for 4-5 months. That's how I can retain my length and health of my hair. Also I trim my hair every 4 months, I cut off about an inch, not 'half and inch' but an inch when I do fresh twists.

I cut my ends about 2 months ago prior to getting braids that left in (left in for 2 months) I retained a whole INCH of hair! I cut it again when I took it out prior to sewing on a wig where I do leave out but no heat just gel and edge control. I am convinced cutting my hair did the trick, I bought some good $40 sheers too, they say trimming with cheap/ dull scissors is as bad as no trim at all.

She said she don't trust the black shops because she had a similar experience back in the day. Not to shit on black hairstylist , I know we've came in long way with care hair in the last 15 years since I been, but if you're scared to get a trim maybe start with supercuts so you have more control over the process.

3c hair girl over here, a few years ago I had bleach blonde hair and used to straighten it weekly. It grew to my stomach.....and then I decided to stop going to my stylist and bleach my hair by myself and oo Chile I had to cut it to my ears.
Now I’m here trying to regrow my hair again😭 don’t make the same mistake I did friends. I’m going to stop straightening my hair and see how that goes😭 I get single strand knots when I stop straightening and it’s so aggravating!!!!!! Hopefully these tips work! Thank you for this video❤️

You don’t have to straighten but you can blow dry your hair. I also get single strand not if I leave my hair natural so I never do it. Just blow dry on low heat and do twist outs.

I have 3c hair and had 4A on the top but from ear to ear in the back was 3C I used an all natural creme of nature sunflower relaxer in mild strength to loosen my 4A texture it worked nicely you only need to do it once it’s in an orange container . It kept my curl pattern but loosened my curls to a looser wave, easier to manage and still has a bomb curl using products. I now have 3B all around

I love your channel and I'm also a sub, but I think it's misleading to put the label 4c when you have a gina curl in your hair(which I have nothing against, I'm texlaxed myself), especially when you said your hair wasn't originally 4c. clickbait can really get on the nerves of people who actually are looking for actual advice on 4c hair. please keep that in mind next time

Sweetheart I just posted a video about rice water on my WhatsApp story and literally all the girls in my contacts were asking me how it works, how to use it etc... and it just breaks my heart how a lot of black girls in (Africa) South Africa do NOT know how to take care of natural hair and lack the knowledge towards kinky hair.
I grew up thinking it takes a MIRACLE to have long 4c hair and I know lots of black girls think the same, because of the lack of knowledge towards our own hair type.
You would think since we're the majority in the country we should know about our hair but nooooo. 70% of girls here have relaxed hair and some never show their hairs because it's always covered in wigs or braids, some prefer to be bald coz it's less work. I just cringe. But I'm glad the natural hair community is growing and we're learning about type 4 hair.

I am so grateful for the tip about the blow dryers and if you can't sustain the heat on your hand it not good for your hair, because I've gotten blow outs so many times and sometimes it feels like it burning my scalp and that might explain why my hair has a lot of breakage.
