- BURDOLA developed in our workshop. Its idea is based on traditional instruments: Egyptian arghul, Sardinian launeddas, antique aulos, different bagpipes and Russian double pishik.
Materials: Arundo Donaх cane, Phragmites Australis cane, beeswax, leather cord, linen thread.
CHARACTERISTICS:
Reeds are single.
Full length of instrument is 72 cm.
Scale:
Drone: D 'E' G'
Chanter: D E F # G A B c d
Opened and closed fingering are both working.
Hard case is included.

very nice idea sounds awesome, very versatile!
i have once seen a video of an antique aulos replica(I think), that had such a feature as well, in form of sliding pieces of pipe that could permanently open or close holes (little bit like brass instruments)to alter the tuning of the instrument while being played. but that model was completely made of metal so the slides are airtight, would be pretty impossible with uneven natural cane surface haha.

Hi, I try to make similar instruments myself. However I don't quite understand what makes a good reed (vibrating tongue). Sometimes the ones I make don't produce sound at all, or some that do go bad very quickly, with squeaky noises or just go silent. It's hard to find good information about this. I would be very grateful if you could help, if you have a useful ink, make a tutorial or just give some advice. Thanks for the inspiration!

When the two reeds finally crack or go bad, are there replacements, how much $$, and how easy is it to replace them and get back in tune?
You can order new reeds set, if you are user of our instrument. It is possible to change reeds by yourself, if you are experienced user. But we recommend to send an instrument to us for reeds changing and tuning.
