It's been 8 months since her last stream, I thought she would be living quite a happy retirement by now. Jonas' recent passing makes me imagine what would happen to me if my mother ever passed away. But one day, I would also have a choice to happily retire if I did lose her. I often look at retirement as simply enjoying life, relaxing and not having a worry in the world.
I've been asking about Heather for a while now, hoping she'll return. That's got its ups and downs because the Dr. Mario community has grown quite a bit and has become quite a lot more competitive since she was last seen playing. I'd like to think that Jonas would want her to compete some more. She's a great player.
I am in contact with Heather and she has a standing invitation to attend any of our events under whatever conditions she wishes. I don't see her coming back to full competition, but her 2019 run was an inspiration for many of our newer players and still remains our most watched UA-cam video. She will be welcomed with open arms in any capacity.
JB here. Thanks to everyone for the lovely comments and thank you to Scout for this fantastic video! We're excited about the 2022 VS championship this weekend!
A little Insider baseball, Scout had sent me the script for this video for fact checking and I saw it was well put together and easy to understand for a person new to the scene to understand. When the video was dropped, our crew was in the middle of setup for DrMC 2022 and we all paused and huddled around a phone to watch it. Even though I had read the script beforehand, it still got me in the feels. The biggest gut punch was watching the clip of the combo I dropped early on in the vid. Hearing Jonas call that moment hit me hard, and then seeing all my friends shine throughout the rest of the piece was a Rollercoaster while I was emotionally stun locked. S tier work Mr Scout. You and SGG are true friends and beautiful people.
Man, Bidwell had asked me if I could make it this weekend and I was really bummed to tell him I couldn't. This video just added to that so thanks. That is to say, excellent job covering the event! I got some real early CTWC vibes
That pools/seeding/qualifying (tbh idk what it's called lmao) system is actually genius. I love how it's great for both making the tournament balanced and making sure the players play their best and not cheese the system. Plus spectators get the best matches to watch. Also you broke that down so simply, I'm super impressed.
@@chrisbidwell895 Did you pull from any specific source for this tournament structure? It’s extremely efficient, and has me wondering how applicable it might be for other types of games. This could be a really great example for tournament organizers across many different esports
@@IanZWhite00 I took some inspiration from the old ctwc format where players could play as little or as much as they wanted. Lower stakes + more variety = more fun for players ( hopefully) A dedicated qual period gives players the chance to play a lot of Dr Mario matches against a lot of different players. I wanted to avoid a traditional double elim bracket where half the players are finished after 3 matches.
Hey, I was watching this and my 7 year old started asking me what this is. Next I know were playing Dr. Mario in a whole family round robin tournament. SO thanks for bringing Dr. Mario to a new generation.
Incredible video as always, it's very cool to know that the share of Tetris and Dr. Mario talent have some form of an overlap to them. Both games do feel awfully similar in their combination of having a simple premise yet complex strategy.

This such a good video! Was at the phoenix qualifier for tetris reasons, but got sucked into this community, everyone is so nice! Doc helped me get set up and into the tourney, thank you Doc!!
Great video! and better late than never. I’ve been sending it to all my friends that were curious about my experience today at the 2022 championship. Cant wait to see you all at the next one for a rematch!!
I've had Packie, Vince & Bidwell all ask me, "So...when are you coming to the Dr. Mario Championships?" Problem is I've mainly played for score and playing Vs is fairly new to me and I know that's a different ballgame.
Although I am still relatively new to Dr. Mario, just being good at the game in general seems like it can translate pretty quickly to being good at comp. There were plenty of people at the 2021 and 2022 event that had either never played Vs or had never done it against another strong player and did quite well.
Without any adjustments to your game at all, you would be an automatic wrecking ball to any pool or bracket you enter. Work on your speed and you could be a threat to take the title. Either way, the hidden purpose of the tournament is to hang out with other players. I think you would enjoy the trip, Paul.
As a huge fan of the original NES game and still love playing with friends when I (rarely) get the chance, this was awesome to see. Keep the fever alive and maybe someday I'll train a bit and throw my hat in the ring. Thanks for showing me this world exists!
This scene seems super interesting and full of genuinely passionate players. I hope it continues to grow and maybe that we’ll get to see more of dr Mario on this channel (who knows, right?) Just one thing though, I feel like when the rounds start they should find something that sounds more exciting to say, because ‘3, 2, 1, pills’ just sounds a bit underwhelming in my opinion, nothing like ‘3, 2, 1, TETRIS!’ I mean idk what it should be, maybe like “CAPSULES UP!”, or “DOCTOR TIME!” 😂 These are just ideas, I’m certain the players can come up with something better. But seriously this game looks like such a fun time I should check it out!
