What was missed is the fact that September 19 was the 1 year anniversary of his elbow surgery. This is a rehabbing pitcher doing this extraordinary feat! Crazy!!!
Exactly. Ohtani haters say "oh, but he's just a DH this year", "it's easier to steal bases after the pitch clock", "he's MLB poster boy, he's favored", yada yada.
People take Ohtani for granted. What they refuse to acknowledge is how hard the return after TJ surgery is. Any other recovering pitcher would be literally out for a year. Ohtani had to adapt to make himself useful for the team.
And he's doing it so much better than other DHs, even at handicap conditions.
What Ohtani did last night was... IMPOSSIBLE. How he somewhat keeps improving after facing adversity is his greatest achievement, not his stats... and he does it in such a spectacular way.
He deserves 2024 MVP. I don't see Lindor or even Judge pushing to their limits. They don't go beyond their phenomenal set of skills. For Shohei, recovering isn't an excuse for not keeping developing himself. He could go the Rendon way, collecting fat paychecks while sitting out 3/4 of a season... but Shohei is a different breed.
The Greatest Single season game ever, and he did it with the pressure of getting to 50/50!
I just found another stat: Ohtani set the LA Dodger record yesterday for Total Bases in a single season.
2024 Ohtani 377 TB
2004 Beltré 376 TB
I think he’s going for 57 steals. 56 is the Japanese record held by Ichiro.
I truly feel like he can steal whenever he wants.
Shohei eats the pressure. He turns coal into diamonds. He performs best under pressure. He won championships in Japan and the WBC. All that was pressure.
It's sad only a few thousand people saw it live. I live in Pensacola, Florida, which is a 10 hour drive. I wish I had gone to this game. SMH.
Just like we talk about Babe Ruth, generations ahead will talk about this game, and Shohei Ohtani 💪🏾
When Joe D. said that during the last HR call, when he lost his freaking mind, I thought it was hyperbole. But I'm not so sure now.
Dodgers playing Rockies 6 of the last 9 games....6060 FOR OHTANI!
He accomplished all this on rehab.
Wonder if trout reached out
60/60
The best game period 🤴🦄💙🔥❤️🔥💥😊
GOATAHNI!!!!
NEVER apologize for knowing your stats… that’s as American as Apple Pie & Chevrolet
Please stop the bobble head! 😳😳😳
He missed the cycle at 3rd. Just saying
Guys it’s a great game and Shohei is awesome but it can’t be the best game ever. It can’t beat a World Series game seven so many of them Yankees Diamondbacks Twins Braves, but it was great go Dodgers let’s go.
Regular reason game ... nobody is saying it is the greatest baseball game ever ... Come on bruh
This definitely wasn't the greatest baseball game of all time. For example, 1974 Joe Ferguson throw in World Series...1 of the most exciting games of all time. And there are many others!
They're not saying THE game was the greatest game ever, rather HIS game was the best game had by a player.
6:05 spot on, he was inches from a homer in the first and fraction of a second from the cycle but then again who knows what would've happened had he homered in the first it would've been a totally different time line and parallel reality lol
Good that you mentioned that. "If this had happened" drives me nuts. Everything changes on every pitch. What happened in the first inning has some level of influence on what happens in the 9th.
