Easier said than done?? You know most careers want some education or certifications to go with them. Like you can't just change from Finance to Nursing in a month? You go to college for years to even get to that point. It is not easy unless you take a huge pay cut in some other field that is bottom of the barrel.

A lot of companies are happy finding people where the lights are on and someone is home! Just showing up and not being a dolt is enough. When I was young, I used a shotgun approach, knock on 20 doors and at least one will answer. I always got hired and I worked for some very interesting companies I never knew existed. It was interesting and usually a happy and lucrative surprise. You bring it and the rest will follow. Don't underestimate yourself.
This episode reminds me of one of those psychic readers that repeat back to you everything that you are telling them and they think you are reading their minds
Yes. It's easy. Anyone can be a motivator. Anyone has self help someone other than themselves. Actually it's easier if your rich and famous like these people
I am a insurance adjuster for a small regional insurance company. I love my job . I just hate dealing with the people. You will work your ass off still get cussed out. Try to help someone out and they think you are out to get them. I hate my day to day. But i love seeing my son happy.
I can totally identify with this lady. I don't feel like i could enjoy doing anything anymore. I'm just tired of it all after over 27 years. It's not my company nor my coworkers. They are great. I'm just tired of missing out on life because i have to prioritize work. I can't get it all done without putting in many nights and weekends. After doing that off and on for over 27 years in various IT jobs, it just gets old. At least she has a husband making a good salary to pay the bills. It's not all on her shoulders. She could work part time or take off to "find herself". Single women never have that freedom. I feel worse because I've saved, but I've recently had so many expensive emergencies that deleted my entire emergency fund plus more. I'll never get to retire, but i really need to.
First thing I'd do is quit, If you're not happy there I'd just leave and work the rest out after, Or take a week off and just think about what you really want and remember what you're working for.
Easily said than done. Most people are dissatisfied with their jobs and want to leave, but quitting is not an option. Take time and plan your escape and then make your move.
I’ve been hating my job ever since we got a new supervisor that is unprofessional and shows favoritism. (Yes, I have talked to HR about it. Nothing has changed. Only gotten worse.) Now that I’m 31 weeks pregnant I think it’s best for me to leave. On top of the stress and drama the hours are crappy and I barely get to spend anytime with the child I already have. I’m running for the hills.
factory line is tough work... they work you like a dog and you have no free time. you can't be a minute late. We need to stop working more than 40 hours a week and find a balance
Stop working more than. Even in a big city like Chicago, you can live pretty easily for around 25k. So working a simple job for 20 an hour you can easily live on that
This lady is my kindred spirit. She's not afraid to come up with a job. What she's afraid of is she won't have a job that will pay as much as what she's leaving. Come on Dave, organizing people's houses is not going to make you $70,000 to $100,000 a year.
I've been thinking of applying at the local factory. It's 12 hour shifts, but you get 15 days off a month. Sadly, I have a choice between this and becoming a CNA. They're the only full time jobs with benefits. I'm at my parents house and need money after my job abroad shut down on a 1 day notice. Otherwise, I will have to take part time/no benefits work at a restaurant and save money to move out, which will be too long for comfort. Not much of a choice. if you do night shift they pay just $1 more an hour. I would do day shift, but I am pretty sure I'd be exhausted.
Grace--I hope you found something you are happy with! I'm 54 and I still haven't found what I'm looking for, but I'm getting there! I went back to school, took classes as I could afford to--no student loans--and I graduated with my bachelors degree at age 50. Don't be afraid to go for it! You can always work temp jobs if you need to bring in income, but seriously, don't waste your good years being miserable! Best of luck to you!!!
Yeah I know how she feels I feel comfortable where I'm at I have no degree what if I take a pay cut what if I end up somewhere I hate more. I would love to move out of NY and I've been about to pull the trigger and I just never do it. Cowardly of me
My ex husband hated all of his jobs, and he didn’t have a degree in anything. Safe to say we struggled financially all the time. He was bad with money in all kinds of way.
I know Ken means well but he doesn’t realize that not all dreams come true. How I wish I could turn back time and never have tried.
I completely get her. I absolutely hate my job and can’t leave it for visa purposes. It’s a horrible feeling to want to leave a place and not being able to. I also don’t know if I want to even work straight after I leave my current job. I just feel like being off for three months and take a break. I’m so over it.

I'm 44 years old and spent 14 years in the oil and gas industry until it basically went kaput in my 2014. it isn't dead, but the industry took a nose dive and didn't really bounce back. I took a few part-time jobs, and it took me a bit to find my niche until 2016, when I became an insurance agent. I did that until 2023. I got burned out. I was running an agency and producing and in 2020 I lost most of my staff, and never really was able to replace them. Now I work for the post office as a mail carrier and it's the easiest job I've ever had and I hate it. I want something more challenging. in hindsight I'm in great shape, but it's just a job.
if you do not do what you want ...when you want to do it...for as long as you want to do it for...what you do for work will not make you happy..no matter what field or job
At 23 years old. Im scared of this. Staying at a job for over 15 years to be incredibly unhappy and cheated. Going back to school hoping Itll be a better position for work in the future.
I'm a bit lost, feeling the same as the lady calling in. I will probably do a year or two more. Then go part time and if still feeling crap will leave. But I know in two years I will be quite financially stable. But I achieved this by saving and not going on vacation for a few years. When I use to go on vacation I just knew it was a short escape before going back to the job I hated. This has only been in last five years as I enjoyed my job before, doing the same but different place. I took a better paid job and financial stability, but I feel I have got what I need from it and now I can change.
I'm in the same boat and I searched and this came up. I woke an assembly line too forced to work 60plus hours and kicker is I have a degree. But most jobs do not pay as much as we make without a specialty degree. It doesn't seem realistic to quit and go back to school for more loans and still not make near as much. The only avenue that makes sense for ppl in our situation is to use our income to start our own businesses. Idk, I feel completely stuck. I get it
This was the best episode I've seen so far. It really speaks to me. There are things that I'm interested in doing but I know it won't replace my income, at least not at the start. However, I should try to do it to see if it can at least supplement my income, plus it will be more enjoyable.
Today I got up at 9 am. Then I went for a walk, it's a nice summer day, why not? Now I'm fixing lunch. Then I might take a nap. It's Monday. I'm NOT playing nice with people and bottling up my frustration. I say whatever I want to whoever. Yep, I'm retired! And the best part is you're not :)

Once it makes you depressed enough, it becomes a brutal cycle keeping you mentally trapped and exhausted. Its exactly what companies want. This society is going to fail because the people on top are taking too much and giving too little. You cant keep people working when the reason for doing so has almost fully dissapeared.

Looking like a crazy woman will be plenty of motivation to get yourself up to a point where you can train real ones
I wonder if the advice for Grace would be the same if she didn’t have her husband’s solid income or if she were a single parent.
I think it would probably be same. She can take some part of her income to learn the skills she is is passionate about and move into that career. I think she gave also invested money in some index funds (I assume she didn't) so it would have compounded now so that she can quit without much fear of risk.

Well, get ready for your 30s when you can't get jobs as easily.
I didn’t realize I needed this today. Thank you for sharing.
I live in the suburbs of Detroit. Assembly line work in the auto industry is traditional around here and it is tough work. Good luck and best wishes.
Nobody should ever be forced to do overtime. Overtime should be voluntary and paid accordingly.
Try telling that to my employer.
This episode reminds me of one of those psychic readers that repeat back to you everything that you are telling them and they think you are reading their minds
Yes. It's easy. Anyone can be a motivator. Anyone has self help someone other than themselves. Actually it's easier if your rich and famous like these people
I did as well. I just received my first pay at my new job and I worked 84 hours and hate it and got paid under a thousand dollars.
Sometimes, the best thing to do is to take a break from work and, during that break, figure out what to do.
This is a REAL hot topic! Thanks Ken
@@jtugg7341 Quitting is always an option
Never quit before you have an exit strategy to another job.

@@rexcatston8412 Exactly, it's irresponsible.
@@rexcatston8412 Yeah Fair enough, I've always had emergency money and places to go to work temporarily so it's never been an issue for me
I’ve been hating my job ever since we got a new supervisor that is unprofessional and shows favoritism.
So working a simple job for 20 an hour you can easily live on that
Start investing and be financially independent.
@@bytesizedwisdomcs simple job for $20 an hour?
@@bytesizedwisdomcs a "20 $ an hour simple job" is simply not a thing
This lady is my kindred spirit. She's not afraid to come up with a job. What she's afraid of is she won't have a job that will pay as much as what she's leaving. Come on Dave, organizing people's houses is not going to make you $70,000 to $100,000 a year.
Same great pay but been stuck on 3rd shift that few extra dollars a hour isn’t worth my happiness and having time
I've been thinking of applying at the local factory.

I know Ken means well but he doesn’t realize that not all dreams come true. Sometimes you throw your heart and soul into something and you fail to the point where you would be 100% better off if you had never even started chasing the dream. I am living proof of that. How I wish I could turn back time and never have tried.
I used to feel that way, but then before I switched majors, I tried one more time, and it was success. But I had a lot of failures first 😬
These guys have an amazing ability to listen - something to aspire to.

I completely get her. I absolutely hate my job and can’t leave it for visa purposes. It’s a horrible feeling to want to leave a place and not being able to. I also don’t know if I want to even work straight after I leave my current job. I just feel like being off for three months and take a break. I’m so over it.
Thank freaking God I'm single with no kids for I also HATE my job hence the reason I'm cheap therefore I don't have to work 80hrs a week....could care less about the joneses
I been in her position. I know what it feels like to work at a job you hate that’s why you gotta make a change in your life or else you’ll be sad and miserable forever
SHE HAS ALOT OF DEBT AND CANT LEAVE

As long as you have another job and can pay the bills, go for it!
I get it
The working person is Not Free. Plain and simple.
This was the best episode I've seen so far. It really speaks to me. There are things that I'm interested in doing but I know it won't replace my income, at least not at the start. However, I should try to do it to see if it can at least supplement my income, plus it will be more enjoyable.
All jobs suck to one degree or another. That's why they pay you to be there.

All of this is easier said then done. I’m in a similar situation and im making the move this spring. I have been thinking aboit opening a franchise for a few years now. Since covid. I keep thinking it’s not a good time bc covid. What if I don’t do well with the shop. I keep having all of these doubts and what ifs. I have been in my career for 15 years as well and I am miserable. I want to open a coffee shop in SC so I started packing up my condo and I’m going to put it up for sale in the spring then I want to get an apartment there for a year and start looking to apply for a business loan. I am thinking of staying in this current career part time while opening the coffee shop for benefits like healthcare coverage and keep putting into a retirement plan while running the coffee shop. It’s so scary but at the same time I know I can’t continue this career. I go to work every day angry and hating all of it. My pay is decent and I do know what’s holding me back is fear

I had a job like that once. Bully boss and almost committed suicide. It was horrible.
