Changing careers and working for myself has been one of the best decisions I've done for myself, even after family and friends thought I was crazy for doing so. Jim Carrey supposedly once said: "If you're not willing to downgrade your lifestyle for a year to have a lifestyle you want forever, you care too much about what other people think."
Been saying that for too long and wishing everyone would just say no and stop taking crap from people who make millions. The thought that some people make the equivalent amount of hundreds an hour while myself and my coworkers make only in the 20s it's insane that we build their pay. Without us they don't have their millions.
So, so true. I work for the department of Education and the administration are verbally abusive to teachers and staff. The school principal and the assistant principal are the most nasty human being I ever met. I am so happy I am so close to retirement. Praise God that he has been opening doors for me to be able to retire soon. Today by God’s Grace I paid off my mortgage.
You are completely correct. Switching careers did set me back about 30% of my highest income. I studied on my own to get into software engineering for 2 years after work and on the weekends with all my free time. Got an entry level job last year paying that 30% less. Not even 1 year later I received a new job with incredible benefits, an amazing set of coworkers, and a 50% pay raise. Just put in the work, and you can get there. I couldn't be happier, and I hope you all achieve the same.
Why does my job feel like a bad marriage? I keep thinking I can change it, but in reality, it's just a toxic relationship with fewer weekend getaways. Time to draft my resignation letter or hire a divorce lawyer for my career!
I now absolutely hate my job. My management changed my schedule and workload. So, I am quitting next month. My wife, daughter, and I have $3500 passive income monthly to cover our bills and some expenses. I will need to find a part-time job. I love driving and chatting with people and love pet sitting. Thanks Brian. I have been blessed by my 40 year career as a CPA. I started in public practice with a local firm way back in the day. When my daughter was born I was hired by a mid sized nonprofit, working part time, around school hours and activities. This balance was key to my job satisfaction. In addition, I love the nature of my work because it's a blend of crunching numbers which I love and helping/training others which I love too. I have been paid a fair, generous wage although certainly not what I would have made if I stayed in public accounting. After 30 years with the same organization, I will be retiring in October. Brian, this is excellent advice. As a top earning salesperson in a multi-million dollar company, I was a victim of corporate restructuring where the major accounts became house accounts due to automatic replenishment systems on computer. My income was cut in half so I had to do something. I took my first $10,000 and invested in my own importing and distribution business because that was my area of expertise for almost 20 years. I kept my day job and worked out of my home as I slowly grew my business out of the cash flow. After a few years of careful well planned growth, I finally left my day job as I continued to grow my client base. Eventually I moved into a warehouse space and now have a multi-million dollars business with 4 full-time employees! It can be done in America.

There must be a swing in labor vs indoor email passing jobs. Those that do hard work are compensated less than the micro managers forwarding pointless emails all day.
I think the majority fall between not minding their job and hating their job. Few people in America love their job. I am working toward what my Dad has. He is retired, living on a small pension and social security. He doesn't have much in material stuff, he is a simple man but he doesn't answer to anyone. That's my goal and I'm getting closer every day! Simple life where I don't answer to anyone! Sounds golden to me!
I don't hate my job itself, I hate the constant struggle with others who incessantly try to pawn their work off onto me. I hate that no one ever wants to take responsibility for anything because they could be wrong, so all decision making and accountability comes back to me. I hate that certain peoples are never held accountable for their work, but instead it becomes my responsibility to take care of and mentor them when NO ONE mentored me. Yes, I'm a white male but you could also have assumed I was an Asian male.
I know where you're coming from. I work very hard and it seems that the people who work the hardest not only get the most work, but get treated the worst. I had to change my whole daytime schedule around to accommodate others when I am the most productive employee. It isn't fair. I won't be here for much longer. So interesting how your channel was focusing on the stimulus checks and seeing it grow into something so much greater is a blessing. You have great information and presentation - making society a better place!!
It would he just be bad luck if I got laid off from my 3 jobs. Oh well I'm right by the Mexican border, the average salary is $150 a week. That would be the new goal 😂
Great video! Some parts hit home for me. I was in an industry I was tired of. Moved back home to go back to school and worked crappy jobs while in school. Graduated last year in accounting. I work at a smaller firm. Next goal is to pass the CPA. It would be nice to open my own little shop, but I'm happy where I'm at right now. I'm in early forties, so I did a career change a lityle later in life, but it has made all the difference. Best of luck to everyone!
I worked in the same field for about 30 years. Did do an upgrade after some tech school in my 20's. Never was promoted ONCE in 30 years. Worked both private, public and even went on my own for two years. Found a way out 🙂after they rubber roomed me in my last job and haven't worked since. Going on 20 years of freedom. Find your own way!
Thanks Brian been with you here a long time I appreciate you and your knowledge. I was laid off last year took the leap to go off on my own it was scary at first. Its totally worth it though. As you mentioned planning accordingly is sooo crucial to success every small victory counts. Treat it as if your life depends on it because it does. Much love to you and yours!
You put this out as i was registering to become a CNA to get myself into the medical field. I dread the job I have right now. Thanks for the extra motivation!
I was an employee and ran my own consulting firm and your advice was 100% spot on. I would only suggest one caveat for folks to consider. Always do something you love and you'll never work a day in your life. I found that as long as I was doing what I loved, somehow the universe knew what I was doing was the right thing. And THAT was when the prosperity followed. It just seemed to come to me, I didn't have to kill myself chasing a dollar like a fool.
I'm definitely a structure type person - show me how its done then I'll take it from there and give it my best. My day job is an IT gig that is 100% telework so I never have to be at an office and I have a boss who is very hands-off (not a micro manager). It really is a good job and I enjoy what I do. My financial focus is watching expenses and investing smartly when funds allow so I can retire in my late 50s then relocate overseas where the purchasing power of my fixed income will go farther.
It's a great video. Some people have to stay because of family obligations and finding companies that have flex schedules present challenges. They can be overcome but takes more time.
I technically retired in my early 30s because my boss tried to get rid of me but he actually retired me because he's an idiot and very insecure so I flipped the situation to my advantage with some help.
Thanks, Brian. I don't hate my job, but I hate the way that I was treated unfairly by my manager. There was not enough support nor gratitude , and the pay is not comparable to my work😢
I don't hate my job but my boss needs to be trained on how to manage her office. I almost quit yesterday. For real. And my husband is 100% supportive and actually hopes I quit because he makes more and wants to work more. The only reason I haven't quit is because I am using my paycheck for investing and savings. I understand we can manage without my income but I also love paying my bills, being out of debt, AND having food to eat whenever I am hungry. But if my stocks keep popping like they have been this past 5 weeks, I just might quit.
Good video! I’m in the process of starting up a photo booth business side gig with my wife while we’re both working full time still. If it turns into a full time gig then that would be ideal but we will see! Good luck everyone. Work hard and don’t give up!
I agree with everything you said, or take on full time side hustle dont expect nothing from working for lyft/uber or any delivery services other then your own. You cant expect tips for everyone and i wish people would end this trend.
I listened to Alan Watts one day and just started working my way and before I knew it I was taking on more responsibility and getting promoted into management. Now I try to help everyone working under me do the same. I don’t hate my job, that’s no way to live.
I used to hate my job and ever since I quit, I feel free😂 the pay and benefits were great, but the environment was so toxic that it started affecting me. I just found a job that is super easy .. I am eager to learn new skills and get the job done. 😈
Brian... Brian I've been watching you for years. You're definitely the most honest speaking person on UA-cam in my opinion. I never met you. But I would love to have a few beers and talk with you on a fun basis. This video Hit me harder than anything I've seen for you. I'm making construction Craftsman 25 years deep. I make more money on a side job on the weekends and I do all week working for the company that I work for the last 18 years. I keep telling myself if I keep working I'll get paid more. But I have slowly realized I'm being taken advantage of. And I'm just tired of it. It's hard to make the big leap when you got a wife and four kids and a mortgage. My wife and I have been together for over 20 years. So all of our kids are ours alone and they are not welfare babies. What's what you said that much structure I have. I've got to stop waiting around. Thank you for this video honestly. And thanks for not having CGI in the background. Always full hearted and straight to the point. I hope to buy you a beer someday.
I filed my LLC paperwork last week for my handyman business that I am starting. I’m keeping my full time job for the time being, I work 7 am to 3 pm so I will be scheduling jobs for nights and weekends in the beginning and looking to transition out of my job if demand is high.
Well, that was another great show. Really good advice. I never minded working for a company but have now been self employed for 35 years. It’s more work to be your own boss, but overall it can be better.
The problem is if you open your own business in any field, there is already high competition out there ! Worse thing you can do is to open business now during hyperinflation ! There will be always someone who does it cheaper and you are screwed....And if you hate your job, no worries, you will get laid off soon ! We are fucked...
I'm one of the grateful few that can say that I love my job.. great pay, great people, great boss, and great hours.. my advice is also to keep on looking for new jobs.. not only will you get more pay but also a change if you hate it.. it's a win-win..some pple get complacent even when they don't like their job.. keep looking for change
Thank you for the informative video, Brian. Recently came to the realization that I am miserable and worn down with my job and it’s not a great feeling. Appreciate the very timely video 🤝
They complain about layoffs but the truth is that at every company I've worked for you could layoff 50% of the employees and it wouldn't impact productivity. Just make sure to layoff the right ones who don't contribute anything except for their "diversity."
Thanks Brian, this hit at the perfect time. Starting a business as I speak but keeping my day job until it starts to take off! Great advice. Appreciate it!
Excellent video, Brian it's amazing how close to the way I became self-employed years old. I have always sold myself as an independent contractor. Have a great day, BROTHER! BRIAN IS THE PODCAST🦁 LION (the Walter Cronkite of podcasts)🏆
great topic. some things to remember in addition to this: 1)Family and friends dont always support this move. if you have a family that doesnt support you it becomes the challenge of proving them wrong. this can be very stressful as well. those families that are supportive may only be that way for 3, 6, or 12 months. keep this in mind if you think there may be a chance that the longer work hours can put a strain on the marriage or your living arrangements. have financial goals and deadlines so you can quantify your progress. you may have to literally prove that things are working to your family so you dont have to put up with BS from them.
You don’t move up like that in these companies… they leave you in a position forever… you apply for other positions within the company and they pick outside people to fill those positions.
You right Brian...I have two businesses and on my 3rd and 4th year respectively...it takes a bit of time to get profit. But I was able to get the EIDL grant and Targeted grant that help to propel me... Commercial window washing Procurement company for Oil and Gas
I've witnessed the inner workings of so many businesses that I'm not interested in entrepreneurship anymore. If I can just stay employed and earning more each year by helping entrepreneurs succeed, I will be happy with my work. That gives me the freedom to fall ill on occasion without having an entire business resting on my shoulders.
Thanks for this. I’m actually working on going to school part time while I stay at my current job. Aiming to change industries but I need the paycheck I’m getting right now since I’ve been in my current industry for years. Just excited to working towards something new and different

This came right on time. I was just on Indeed looking for another job. Being in a hot warehouse all day is not worth it
Me too❤
Everything is unfair. That’s because you’re still on your journey. Hey you’re not alone. Love and respect yourself guys. I’m on my way to stop doing negative things to myself and yes it does take some time and effort. Face the reality but dream big hope everyone have a good day.
Great Perspective & Advice ... yup, mostly we do it to ourselves
Grifters will tell you, "Anyone can build the next fakebook."
An honest person (Brian) will say, "Not everyone should start a business.
So interesting how your channel was focusing on the stimulus checks and seeing it grow into something so much greater is a blessing. You have great information and presentation - making society a better place!!
Nice side hustle for Brian!
If you hate your job, don't despair. You're getting laid off soon!
lol
Lmao
All the more reason to build your escape plan right now.
not always the case but it does happen sometimes
And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
I've owned my own business for more than 35 years. This is solid advice.
Also, you'll know months in advance if your going to get fired.
You are such a wonderful person and we thank you sooo much for this channel and your care, time, and life you bring to it. Many blessings to you .
Look into ultrasound tech if you’re not necessarily interested in nursing (if that is the field you’re looking into)
THANKS BROTHER 💯 I APPRECIATE YOUR KNOWLEDGE YOU SHARE !!!!
My pleasure!! Thank you for all the support!
Very interested in the insecurity that allowed you to flip the script on him...
Thanks, Brian. I don't hate my job, but I hate the way that I was treated unfairly by my manager. There was not enough support nor gratitude , and the pay is not comparable to my work😢
there's no "good" answer if you hate your job. Other than, if you want change -then you gotta take the risk. Otherwise, you have NO RIGHT to complain.
This basic information is something EVERYONE needs. Simple problem solving for a major issue
You are amazing & you are smart. I wish you all the best & i hope we can follow your tips to be successful in our life. Ty Brian.
People in the future will look back at us with astonishment that almost everyone gave their entire life to work a meaningless job.
I inherited a 8 million dollar ranch from my boss when he passed away, I worked 25 years for him.
@danoalex2977 You are the exception.
@@tairz2013 true that
I filed my LLC paperwork last week for my handyman business that I am starting. I’m keeping my full time job for the time being, I work 7 am to 3 pm so I will be scheduling jobs for nights and weekends in the beginning and looking to transition out of my job if demand is high.
Thank you for being realistic about the options that are available
Well, that was another great show. Really good advice. I never minded working for a company but have now been self employed for 35 years. It’s more work to be your own boss, but overall it can be better.
This video is why I’m subscribed to you! God bless you and thank you for contributing to humanity
I just wrote my resignation. This video is ideal right now. Thank you 🙏🏾.
Thank you sooo much Brian !!
You are such an incredible human. I appreciate you, Brian.
Thank you Brian for these tips … thank you for being there in these trying times.. hope all is well with you sir
I appreciate how honest and practical you are! You give good advice that can actually be implemented!
I don't hate my job but i would quit immediately if i won the lotto. I wouldn't even give 2 weeks and have already told my coworkers this.
The lotto dream it’s a far shot
Thank you for making this, Brian! Very motivating. I'm going to spend the long 4th of July weekend to roadmap my exit strategy from W-2!
This is very valuable information to so many, thank you for caring about this. You are the best!
Thank you for this video! A lot of us needed to hear this.
I love my job, the pay and benefits are as good as it gets. It’s the PEOPLE !!! Can’t have everything I guess
This video just came at the time while I thought of starting a small business to have more freedom and better health.
I think it's a sign.
Very thankful I found your channel recently. All your videos are helpful but I needed this one!
I went to school to become a licensed Massage Therapist and I started my own business. It’s great.
Excellent video, Brian it's amazing how close to the way I became self-employed years old. I have always sold myself as an independent contractor. Have a great day, BROTHER!
BRIAN IS THE PODCAST🦁 LION (the Walter Cronkite of podcasts)🏆
This was right on time. I work two jobs and just quit one yesterday. I definitely want to open my own business. I’m just afraid to fail.
Reminded me of Nomad Capitalist when you said 'Go where you're treated best'.
Thank you Brian for bringing this to light.
Wow!!! Thanks so much, just what I needed 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
I just want to make a living doing what I love!
Motivating, inspiring & uplifting the world, Music is Life!
great topic. some things to remember in addition to this:
1)Family and friends dont always support this move. if you have a family that doesnt support you it becomes the challenge of proving them wrong. this can be very stressful as well. those families that are supportive may only be that way for 3, 6, or 12 months. keep this in mind if you think there may be a chance that the longer work hours can put a strain on the marriage or your living arrangements.
have financial goals and deadlines so you can quantify your progress. you may have to literally prove that things are working to your family so you dont have to put up with BS from them.
You don’t move up like that in these companies… they leave you in a position forever… you apply for other positions within the company and they pick outside people to fill those positions.
They also pick friends and family over everyone as well
You right Brian...I have two businesses and on my 3rd and 4th year respectively...it takes a bit of time to get profit. But I was able to get the EIDL grant and Targeted grant that help to propel me...
Commercial window washing
Procurement company for Oil and Gas
I've witnessed the inner workings of so many businesses that I'm not interested in entrepreneurship anymore. If I can just stay employed and earning more each year by helping entrepreneurs succeed, I will be happy with my work. That gives me the freedom to fall ill on occasion without having an entire business resting on my shoulders.
Thanks for this. I’m actually working on going to school part time while I stay at my current job. Aiming to change industries but I need the paycheck I’m getting right now since I’ve been in my current industry for years. Just excited to working towards something new and different
Ah Brian!! Its been 4yrs since i watched this great channel! When covid hit...we all wanted news of covid unemployment! I travelled the world for 2yrs on that money! God bless America!
Hope you had a blast!
I am always complaining before of my Job! And little did i know i want to go back to my work!
Holy crap Brian. It's uncanny how timely your uploads are
Brian, Great content. God Bless!
Love you man, much respect for you sharing your financial wisdom!
