You know what happens if you can't pay a medical bill? Talk to the hospital, not a 21 year old. What a scummy uncle. My wife had a 2 week hospital stay and a c-section last year and it cost 5k. We're in baby step 2, but eliminated all our saved money for the baby due to serious complications (leading to over 100 day NICU stay). A hospital will work with you, usually with a very low minimum payment and 0% interest. This sounds like the uncle wanted to scam her.

He bullied me into saying "Well you want to live here don't YOU!" "You have to take care of family!" (He said the same thing). I was being bullied and let him borrow it. I was able to drive my mom's car during the summer while I was waiting on buying a car....I never got that cash back... BUT eventually I forced him to co-sign for a car bought at the end of the summer (I had no credit at the time). It was quickly when I learned that my childhood image of my father was NOT the same as an adult. He is not great at honoring his word with finances. He is an impulsive person. Ever since then I kept EVERTHING separate... no joint car insurance, no joint phone bills... nothing.

Teen and adult children need to make some sort of financial contribution to the household if they're still living at home, it prepares them for real life. I did so without even being asked when I came of age.

I should have told him I had a title loan on it. A few months later he turned around and sold my car for 4000. I never got anything out of it but a guilt trip.

You can definitely make some adjustments in your schedule and get it done. It will be painful, but it's not impossible.

She should go to his dad's family and inquire. She should also email or text every communication so he will admit in writing....maybe ask him if he can make payments, and his response may confirm the loan...Be very nice so as not to put him on defensive...
