Let me say this Kyle, it takes a lot of stones to call on national radio and talk about the issues. It means you are on the right track and you need good support and direction to move forward.
You can do it.
I retired at 50 and have saved millions over the years of my investment. Don't need anyone to pay me anymore I need to be paying people now. I knew I'm gonna do it
I need a nice and a profitable investment scheme to venture into. Maybe stock isn't bad
@@nathancook8325 you’re so cool Nathan
The fact that he realized he has a problem and made the phone call is huge. We are all human and go though dark times
"Kyle, in 6 weeks, if you're not on your way to becoming a video game developer, you will be dead."
He is just a typical man that has kept it all in for decades. He is reaching out for help which most men don't do. Work on yourself guys before you take on the responsibility to take care other people.
Sometimes when the caring for others starts you can be in a good place, but over time you slip gradually, and then 5-10 years later you step back and only then realize it has all gone sideways on you.

Establish a career before marrying and having kids.
@@genxx2724 amen
@donald johnson people get married way too young in america, people need to grow up and live a bit and stop getting married having kids getting a mortgage before they're even 30.
This guy desperately needs someone in his corner. He made a huge first step by reaching out to someone, in this case, it was the Ramsey Show.
@@cstuartdc I agree this is not even an easy venture at all even with a college degree. He has responsibilities grow up and look after your family.. moping around drinking feeling sorry for himself. Dreaming about making video games. It doesn't pay well when you start out after school either that's if you can even get a position as it's a very competitive field. He's 36 set the dream down and if you really hate your job find something else that's attainable. He is in debt he doesn't have the money for school and who is going to look after his kids. The drinking needs to stop as well. The 20 somethings are all taking those programs and they are already ahead of him before he starts.
Too bad his wife doesn't sound like the support he needs.
This guy is me, and I got therapy a little ways back and it changes the way I see the world every day. I think there are millions of men feeling this exact way.
My heart goes out to this guy, you can hear the despair in his voice. Hopefully he manages to take control of things and we get a call in a year saying how he's thriving in his new path 😎🙏🏾❤
Dave's ability to change the way he talks in order to really communicate and connect with a variety of people is underrated.
You are exactly right!
Saw this title and broke my heart. This is exactly how my dad is. But he’s old school and doesn’t understand the importance of finding help for mental health.
I feel ya
Boomers thought seeing a therapist means you're crazy. I've heard them say this. Sad.
Those become those most dangerous type of people, watch closely.
The help your dad needs is probably some good guy friends. He probably needs someone to tell his dreams to who won't tell him he can't achieve them. He already knows most of his dreams will never come true, but it is nice to believe some can.
Can relate in my family situation, which led to serious health problems. Another motivation for me to make more income and get out of debt.
"You gotta set down the stuff that's killing ya, and pick up the stuff that gives you energy", Dave Ramsey
Powerful truth, I felt that
What, like a red bull?
I saw the title and was like "I don't remember calling The Ramsey Show?"
Ha ha!
:)
😂
I was like...well, it couldn't have been me....I don't have debt.
Kyle if you ever read this I prayed for you 🙏 God bless
Finally a real life call
I know exactly how this guy feels. I was in the deepest darkest part of my alcoholism working a job I absolutely loathe couldn't save any money and the debt just kept piling up. I started going to AA meetings eventually got sober then got a career I was proud of. Suddenly I absolutely LOVED going to work the paycheck was an added bonus almost. I felt I had no purpose when I first got sober until I read Purpose Driven Life by Pastor Rick Warren.
Congratulations and an excellent post. Very similar to what happened with me 30 plus years ago.
I will take a look at that book I might need it thanks for the idea
@@prateekbohra7610 if you're struggling with staying sober I would recommend a 12 step program first. If you're just lost and don't feel a sense of purpose then Purpose Drive Life was a total game changer for me. It suggests doing it in a group so you can all hold each other accountable as there are tasks to complete for each chapter over 40 days. Don't let that discourage you just make sure you do the exercises they have a purpose 🙃
I'm really proud of you. Glad you're fighting the good fight.
thanks for the book recommendation. Looks good. Well done on turning your life around.
I saw the title and came running ...to know who else is suffering like me ... he looks like my future
Stay strong

@Johnny Five 😂 Don’t expect even a wise man to be perfect
This describes so many of us guys. Very awesome he called in.
Silent folded arms Dave is a whole vibe
Thabks for pointing this out😁
🤣🤣🤣
“and your a gamer” did it for me
I swear dude
Betheltech doesn't teach game design
Good for him for reaching out for help. Especially to other men. I hope he has a brighter future
❤
This is the best episode on the Ramsey Show.
I love Ken on the team
this was a good one
YES
@Johnny Five tf is try hard? You rather come on here and have him not try to help people?
It’s sad, but this is where a lot of guys are right now. I love how he immediately got excited when started talking about church and finding a community of loving friends.
"I Have Debt, I Drink Too Much, and I Hate My Job". All he needs to add is a dog and he's got himself a country-western song. Good for him for reaching out for help.
when the truck gets repo'd
It’s so hard having a stressful job and having kids.
Heart goes out to this guy. Glad he reached out.
Ken was spot on with his questions, advice, and encouragement for this guy. Well done
There are two types of drinkers, Those who drink because they don't care, and those who drink because they care and they feel trapped. The first type is hard to ever fix. For the second type, drinking is the symptom of feeling stuck and its not an uncontrollable problem, finding inspiration and purpose fixes that.
MOST MEN LIVE LIVES OF QUIET DESPERATION.
No, most men do not.
Thank you to the men that speak out about how they're unhappy even after following the "ideal path" and getting a wife and kids and stable job.
As a man in my young 20s this helps me solidify my opinions on wanting to stay childless and aim for financial freedom
We’re all in this mess together man, remember this... without suffering you will never find comfort, sounds crazy but it’s true. Years from now those kids and wife will know it all because of you! Put that bottle away we all love you brother!
This is so deep. I hope everything turns out good for Kyle. Thank you Dave Ramsey.
Men: it is NOT a weakness to admit to this - I respect the heck out of people who have the courage and honesty to admit to this stuff!!!
A.A.
I've been very successful quitting booze. So far I've quit 13 times.
(Sober 4 months now.)
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you
as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not
be afraid.
Good that he’s realizing there’s a problem and is attempting to seek out some help before it’s too late or ends up losing everything due to alcoholism
My heart absolutely breaks for this man! I pray he finds the guidance, love, and acceptance he needs and deserves to make some changes. I've been right where he is and this was hard to listen to. Fear will cripple you. And it's my humble belief that we as a culture have done men a GRAVE DISSERVICE by not providing an environment where they feel safe seeking help when they need it. I hope he calls back in a year and updates us when he's made a career change and gotten some good help. We're pulling for you Kyle! YOU CAN DO IT!
My son is an alcoholic and wasn't able to get it together until he went through a court mandated treatment program after his fourth DUI. I pray that this man gets the help he needs. My son has not had a drink since and now knows what he wants to do with his life.
Kudos to the caller for calling in and asking for direction 👏
It takes alot to be this open. I pray for you Kyle
God bless Kyle! We’re all here trying to figure out our debt and make healthy choices too! Good luck & take care! 🙊🙉🙈🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
I'm in game development, I know a few colleagues that drinks during work.
It's a great field to work in, but can be stressful for some. I'm not sure changing careers will help with his drinking problem. Therapy will probably be more useful.
I miss playing with CAD software, most of our assets are made in Maya/3DMax/Blender...
Just to add, I know some colleagues works 12-18hr days during deadlines. Also, it has one of the higher divorce rates because of this. It's not your typical 9-5 job. But, if you're passionate and you have a very understanding partner, its great field to be in.
@@ronpanaligan9862 this! It doesn't matter if something is hard as long as you enjoy it. Ppl don't get this a lot. That what's a chore for some is the dream for others.
I used to be in game dev for the love of it. But it was just to hard, lower pay than frontend developers and crunches. I switched to web dev and doing much better. People told me i was crazy to quit my game dev job but im doing much much better now.
Him and his wife should have waited until he felt happy & ready in those stages of life before having kids because now he is stuck. 🥺It's harder to switch jobs when you have more people counting on you. This is something that doesn't get talked about enough. I feel people really rush into kids.
6:52 “you’re stuck and the only way to get unstuck is.. New information, new inspiration
Dave:” and your a gamer” 😂😂
Aka I look down on you
I have a feeling that this call is what he needed to get him on the right track. Sometimes all it takes is another guy that’s going through similar things to help you get through them. Hope he finds some good dudes.
Will be praying for you Kyle.
Dear God, make me a bird so I can fly far, far away.
God bless this gentleman and family.
This is why so many people follow Dave Ramsey, the advice is on point no matter what. Great stuff. Thank you DR and crew for all the years of knowledge you have given me.
Game development is notoriously underpaid and highly competitive though...I'm a developer and know people in the industry
Kyle- Thank you for your honesty in reaching out. Best wishes in your future and getting the help and support you need. You can do this and you deserve it. Take care of yourself and lots of love to your precious wife & children. Find a loving and supportive church community of good people.
Being a parent of young kids is incredibly stressful. I feel for this guy. Our kids are going into preschool and kindergarten so feel like we’re heading toward the other side of early parenthood. It does get better but man is it hard.
This is so nice. You're a good man to honor and advise this caller so well.
Great call hope he get's the help he needs.
if anyone gets in to similar problems here is what has helped me. I am a computer programmer my job, I find very easy to do, the boredom is excruciating, but the money is good. So I went around to look for courses to do - mainly in construction, I tell the tutors that im not interested in getting qualifications, i just want to do the practical work. It really has been a massive help. BTW I know for some this might not be possible.
I started therapy a bit ago for almost the exact same situation. Own it, do the work, and empowerment is right around the bend.
“Most men live lives of quiet desperation.”
I related with him on his self destructive cycle so much except I don’t have a family to be accountable for. Early 30s no education, tons of debt, stuck at a job that I hate, and whenever I get a game plan something sets me off emotionally and I wind up diving back into my gambling addiction and drinking and then I’m worse than I already was. I’m stuck in a cycle of stupid and hate myself more and more with every passing day.
Sorry to hear this. I hope the video helped you. I can relate on having a plan, then spiralling back into the problem. In my case, failure to raise my income, because I was too proud to put my dreams on hold caused so many emotional problems.
Actually working in game development is going to give him depression and make him start drinking again. Crunch culture is insane.
Interesting. Yet so many were on another Dave Ramsey video insisting that video games are virtually harmless.
Facts
There's zero chance this guy ever gets employed as a game dev
Me: I have no kids, i don't drink, and my job is just okay.
Dave: Sell the job
Sell the kids
And the only way you will see the inside of a restaurant is if you are working there.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Sell the car, the wife, the house and refinance your kids buddy
Great advice from Ken!! My heart goes to him! I know what it is to be the sole provider and working a job I don’t like. I hope he can rise up and be successful!
Haven't watched this show in so long! Happy this man called in I believe that he has greatness in his future
First honest caller ever.
Quiet desperation
Game development is way tougher than a regular coding job
exactly.. you're more of a programmer who just happens to do game development.
Replacing drinking alcohol with exercise is a start.
Good comment.
This advice is the ultimate life hack.
Not as much fun.
Thats what i thought but now i do both 😂😂
Daves face while Ken is talking to him 😂😂
Dang, this conversation is a good one and one that needs to happen more often.
Sounds like a lot of people these days. Have debt and hate my job and as a result, drinking happens.
You know it is sad really
Yep I’m in that boat just struggling with this nightmare I’m living
Go to a 28day rehab. Bro
Welcome to the club!
Lol basically
LOL!!!
The first track off of Dave’s new album. “I have debt, I drink to much and I hate my job”
Refrain: “Rice and beans, beans and rice, not gonna see the inside of a restaurant unless you’re WORK-ING-THEEEERE.”
@Johnny Five Nah, country. 😀
Sounds like a legit country song lol
I completely feel this guy. Over 50. Hate the career I am in. 2 kids and a wife I love but just can't provide for a family on my own. I spent about a year and a half working at a job I loved, but could not make the money I needed to. I so badly want to get out of the recreational vehicle industry and get back into the service end of a car dealership. I have experience in parts, love doing car things, 15 years of customer service, and just need someone to give me a chance. I am lucky to have a strong group of church buddies to keep me from doing something stupid when the depression gets overwhelming.
Bad habits have to be replaced with good ones.
Being a parent is hard..PERIOD!!
Love you man, gamer here we'd love you in our industry. Get what you want!
This is probably half of America if not more
I love the positivity in this video and the way that this issue was handled. Love it.
Wow I really feel this guy, I can hear the stress in his voice. At least he’s seen the bottom and he wants to do something about.
I honestly think that of all the people with these issue the hardest part is for them to acknowledge it and decide to truly go make the changes to turn their lives around
Kyle needs to get sober. Everything will fall in order once his sobriety is in order. God helps those who help themselves.

True!!! I can think and see things so much better sober. Been sober 14 months

That's life in Michigan. I was in the same boat and moved to Texas. Life got way better after.
@@kingkatradio yeah that's 100% dead on. My family keeps asking me when will I move back. And every time I say never. Just like this guy I was 34. Divorced living away from my two kids laid off and back in my mother's basement. Now I'm 43 years old own home have a steady job and I'm nearly debt-free. Why would I go back?😅

Moving can be a good step, but you cannot outrun yourself, you still need to work on yourself, still need to address your personal issues you have. Moving can help you with making a clear start, but can't replace that new start, that facing and dealing with the issues you have. If you don't deal with them, they will catch up with you, wherever you move to. But it seems you did, so good on you.
Sounds like dude is on the right track. He recognizes he has a problem. He should see his doctor and have bloodwork done. Vitamin D and B1 due to the drinking. His mood will improve once his levels are normal. Also, if he is over weight, going on the Keto diet will improve his mood. The rest will follow.
I live in the same city, I hope he's ok, if you see this, Kyle, I'm fighting the same battle and I'm always willing to talk. Alcoholism is hard
Im in grand rapids Michigan too!!! I love this caller. I love he reached out and was vulnerable. I pray for his life to change and get inspired.
I feel this guy so much. Once you are struggeling that hard you will have difficulties to reach other jobs because you don´t have the confidence to tell potential employers you are great.
Dave is right: Church and AA first. These two pieces fixed EVERYTHING else - once I was sober and discovered Dave Ramsey, life kicked into the next gear as I began to repair the wreckage of my past. However, EVERYTHING WAS MULTIPLIED ONE HUNDREDFOLD when I also started attending church and studying The Bible. "Seek first The Kingdom Of God and all things shall be added unto you." Through Christ you will recover from Alcoholism, and your life will be swept up in a great momentum as you find yourself being of high-level service to your fellows who struggle with alcoholism. God Bless your ambition and your family!
I was always happy in whatever job I've had because it allowed me to have the family life I desired. I never expected my job to make me happy, but it was my job to bring joy to my coworkers andthe job.
I pray that God bless you, Kyle, to have the courage to reach out to godly supporters and join an online prayer group for your needs.

Then he shook his head,
and looked down at his ring,

Should be thankful to have a job! I am really thankful!!!

Kyle, you can do it! Yes it will take time, it will take effort, it will definitely take discipline, and makes no sense sugar coating it, there will be setbacks along the way. I know you have lots of responsibilities to deal with. But if you want this, and you put in the work, no matter how long it takes, you can reach it. Please know that. Dave is a natural, I know he is trying to develop his staff but they are still missing the mark. Dave seeks to connect with the callers first then provides advice and peace. Ken, Jon, and the others seem to be always looking for the teachers approval by giving the best practical Ramsey solutions answer. These other Ramsey personalities are certified in their fields and yet Dave still provides more quality solutions.
I hope Kyle takes Dave’s advice and gets in a good bible baaed church.
