I love this video! I just followed this to build my own geonosis board. I made some mistakes in the modularity, but for my first board, I'm not complaining haha
My favorite thing about it is how the colors of the rock and ground change depending on the lighting, source, and direction. It really helps bring everything alive before a battle even starts

Been wanting to build a Mars table for my Mutant Chronicles: Warzone games, this video will be a big help in realizing that goal.
Now silicone over all that terrain and create molds for all of us so that we can get the exact same setup!

Are they the same board? The Mars one seems a lot redder for some reason. I prefer the Geonosis colours. Fantastic board as usual.

I've only watched this 3 or 4 times 😂 I genuinely love this video and the levels of detail you go to with your incredibly realistic terrain 😍😍 magnificent!!! I wish I could build something like this for every planet in the Star Wars universe. Imagine something this scale but with the jungles of Felucia or the beautiful cities of Naboo

Zorpazorp What 3D printer do you use/recommend for terrain printing? Where do you tend to source your files?
@@hobbithubby5076 I don't actually hacve one, my mate made these for me but Iperial terrain does some amazing Star Wars terrain files otherwise thingyverse and the internet in general haha
I would love to learn more about how you planned the tiles out to make them fit in different configurations. I'm thinking of just following your layout exactly so it will work. The layout is the hardest part!
Lot's of channelling my inner davinci and staring at the sheet of plywood for like a day hahaha
@@Zorpazorp lol, if you made a video dedicated to lay out it would be golden. None exists. Everyone skips over it. For good reason I'm assuming. Lay out is definitely the most challenging step.

Are you able to do the same theme with the placeable cover walls? I got the extra pack of them but don’t know how to fit them in the genosis theme, and possibly paint the movement and range tools, no one has done that before would be cool to see the washes go through the range tool.

I've just completed mine up to the Mars Earth step. As of right now, I can't really justify any more money into this project for that part yet. However, besides a few missteps, I'm very pleased with my faithful (enough) recreation of your amazing board, now I just need to finish painting my B1s and commanders and I'll be set.

Currenntly building a four foot wide clay version of helms deep. Finished the foam for the gate house last night
Best part is it will fit threw the basement door 😉

Btw to make the clay arch shown on my instagram flatten some clay with a roller and punch out a circle with the cover of your spray primer and then cut to size above the plastic and then remove excess and cut bricks, separate and let dry
Very cool board! But spending $50 AUD on just sand for the board seems a bit expensive. If you wanted to you could use regular fine sand from the beach, follow the same methods and then paint it red.
Not to mention the lovely blended colour of the red pigments is a wonderful starting point :) the board gets a lot of the realism in the ground coverage from the fact that it's pigmented sand not saying that has just been painted if you do you use and adjust paint it you're gonna end up with a result that you can see in the video after I just painted the textured surface before I put the sand down :) definitely a cheaper way of doing it but it's not going to look anywhere near as good.

Side question on paints. For someone new to this hobby looking to get into Star Wars legion, what do you think of the paint sets they sell? Ok enough for a beginner? I’m hoping to save a bit on paint. Are there any other paint sets out I should look at? Also which core set of legion do you all like most?
I don't actually know much about them but they seem to work well enough in my mates experience, I'm sure they'd be fine :)

Great tutorial! I just am wondering what you would recommend for someone trying to make a board for a forest map. Would you recommend making the rocky outcrops the same way you did in this video, just more subtle, or would you recommend a different strategy?

Any chance I could pick your brain as to why not simply build the base and then do all the top bits as large scatter?
So that they beautifully merge into the board to look ass nice as possible with fewer seam lines :) And I didn't want to have to store A full 6x4 :)
That's fair! Planning on custom building my table to 7ft by 4ft so I can have part of the underside as a rack for my larger inserts that will be differing environment types so that scatter can be stored on shelves and take up less room. But it will not look as natural as this! Awesome stuff hope you guys stick around a while loving the legion content.
Looks fantastic. This is something I can see myself trying out as a project. Roughly, how heavy does each piece end up weighing?
Not too heavy, but they do have some weight. Hydrostone is very strong but quote heavy, that's the only tradeoff :)
what colors would you leopard spot for a swampy greenish-brown look?
Still use a little bit of yellow, but change the red browns to more of a traditional brown, and grin in some dark greens, and finish with the black wash :)

How much foam did you use for this board if you had to estimate? If I have 2 4x8 foam sheets of 2 or 3 inches each, do you think that'll do the trick?

So I used about 4 2x4 sheets of foam 1" thick and a little bit of 2" thick foam to get me through and layer the landforms :)

Hey absolutely LOVE the video. Im looking to buy a mask that can be used for epoxy resin, using a heat gun on polystyrene and be used for sanding wood, is it possible to buy a mask that does all of these and if so could you advise me on either an exact model that does all of this or what key words I need to use to find something for it
Glad you enjoyed the video dude awesome that you're taking safety seriously it's super important!! the model numbers and safety standards very hugely from country to country but essentially you're looking for vapour grade filters not just particulate filters 😊😊

@@Zorpazorp looks like a type of cardboard mix, its brittle, but so Is foam until you coat it with something. It will have to do. I started already, and I'm filming the entire thing. Think I'm going to do a "nailed it" video off of this one lmbo. Only issue is I'm not doing Geo, I'm going to do more of a greenish brown Endor look.
i recognize some of the 3d printed pieces from imperial terrains sets but i cant seem to find files for some of the geonosis pieces? are those hand made or printed?

Looking at building something similar for a Necron Tombworld (that should also double as a generic grimdark wasteland)
As long as each individual board size is square, seems like it would be straightforward enough to add to over time.
I can’t find any texture paint like this at my local hardware stores. Could I just mix some craft paint and sand to make the same result?

Plus 2x2s are better for modulating and the board also works for 40k.
Also this board is mainly for narrative campaigns that will be using custom board sizes :)
So yeah a lot of reasons why I went the bigger size haha

You should know, bolts are 998s, which essentially is firing a grenade out of a bfg, because of the fire rate and the size and caliber, the recoil could kill a non modified human, and their power armour is literally built to withstand bullets and lasers. Now the only way the separatists could kill one, is using explosives (which they can side step) or using them lightsabers, and the space marines (mostly commanding officers) carry powerswords, which can withstand a lightsabers heat, or the chainsword which in exchange for damage much more against armour light armour, is less strong against heavy armour, and can not withstand a lightsabers heat. besides they are more mobile than a droid because they are modified to have 3 lungs, two hearts, and 1 more of every important organ, and droids are made of metal which does not contribute to their speed, and I'm not sure about you, I have literally never seen a b1 battle droid, nor commando droid punch someone.
Though, it depends which chapter you send, if you send the dark angels, the droids are guaranteed to win, if you send the black templar, prepare to see your clankers dispatched in a brutal way, if you send the imperial fists, siege immediately before they get the chance to build, if you send in the ultramarines, prepare for death or glory, if you send the raven guard, cover your flanks immediately, if you send in the alpha legion, get some orbital air defenses or your planet will get rammed by a bunch-o dipsh- ships.
Heres the traits:
Droids:
• metal body which slows them
• a bigger meme than the negotiator
• practically endless
• has a bunch of weaboo droids
• produces mechanical units like there's no tomorrow
• rarely evers arms their infantry with rocket launchers
• has no honor
• barely anyone who survives a battle
Spacemarines:
• literally unstoppable beasts in canon
• tank laser shots all the time
•modified in ways that make hulk Hogan look like a child
•plenty of veterans who survive entire battles
• literally a walking talking tank
• can side step rockets
• can use their rage to do things even Darth Vader can't
•honorable warriors (excluding the dark angels) who train to fight in melee every day
•dope
• is specified to hold bolters as nonmodified humans can't
• *FOR THE EMPRAH!*
•did i mension dope
But b1s are practically infinite

The whole board? I can't remember what I spent on materials probabaly like $500, and then it was about sixty hours in labour if I recall correctly :) but I dont do commissions any more.
