How to Set Up PSK31 & RTTY on the IC-7610

- A follow up to our PSK31 demonstration video, here we aim to cover how to setup your IC-7610 for PSK31 usage.
No computer is needed, and it is even possible to use a keyboard with a built in trackpad as per the demonstration.

oh no! been so afraid when on TX when my other HF rig is turned ON .
Ahh; I should point out I use a quality feed selector switch that grounds the other radios when not in use. Even then, I was scared, so before operating like this I measured the voltages across the port using an oscilloscope to, and calculated the S level :).
You shouldn't 'just do it'; if you don't have the tools, spend the money on a good RF switch, and use an old radio first. I get more Stray RF into the rig from other sources (such as the power cord) than I do the antenna jack :)

Just bought this radio and had no idea the radio could do this. I use HRD for digital modes but this is so very cool that the radio can do it stand alone. Thx for all your vids! Learning allot!
How do you a qso ? yoy have to put it manuly in the your logbook! With HRD its automaticly

I would like to see a video on setting up repeaters and seting up tones then saving it all to a memory channel On the Icom 7610
Hi Jarrad, would love it if you posted a short video on setting up the external keyboard, also maybe more info on the model you use in this video. Expecting my 7610 any day now, mine will be only the 2nd one released in the UK.
Its so simple, I think the video would be about 30 seconds long :). I use a Logitech K400, it has a built in track pad, and uses a tiny little USB key for RX. Fortunately, the way Logitech made this keyboard both the keys and the mouse work at the same time, but it only takes up 1 port. There are no setting changes needed on the radio itself :)
Yes, after seeing your video I got the keyboard. Quickly had it transmitting the stored messages. I think that only
meant turning on one feature. Works great. Hope to catch you on the air sometime. I really like your videos. Loving my 7610. Only have had it a few days. 73. K2MR

Andy Lawrence my unit started dropping power output in RTTY and FM, and eventually SSB. Before anything bad happened, I took it straight to Icom Australia to get looked over. Because the videos have been a hit worldwide, they’re going to lend me their unit whilst they fully check mine out and find the root cause :)
I would like to see one for SSTV. To many setup choices.
I bought the Icom IC-7610 and it arrived. I am having trouble trying to configure the 7610 property to send and receive digital modes and CW. I tried following other UA-cam videos for the 7610 configuration, but have not got it to work on receive or transmit. I tried using Ham Radio Deluxe the and WSJTX, but couldn’t get them working yet. I can start HRD Rig Control, connect, and see the frequency display, but the HRD Digital Master 780 does not receive or transmit digital modes or CW. It seems that HRD doesn’t have the FT8 mode. I tried WSJTX, but that doesn’t seem to work either. The 7610 to computer USB connection seems to work because the connect seems to work and I can see the frequency display in HRD Rig Control. I didn’t know how to display the decoded text on the 7610 screen, I’ll have to try to set the 7610 to do that.
Can you explain how to properly configure the 7610 and how to interface the 7610 to the computer? What software are you using on your computer? Decades ago, I used a TS-940, AEA CP-1 interface and a Commodore 64 Computer for CW and AMTOR. I need some assistance to get past the configuration issues and get the 7610 working with the computer.
The Commodore 64 computer died decades ago, and so did the TS-940. I was trying to connect a Windows 7 computer to the 7610. Yesterday, I re-installed Windows 7 Professional and upgraded the computer to Windows 10. The computer has a 3.0 gig quad core CPU, 15 gigs of memory, an extra sound card, and a 500 gig SSD hard drive.
Can you help me to properly configure the 7610, and get the computer software to function so that I can send and receive the digital modes and CW?
I plan to buy an Icom 7610 in the future. Is a SignaLink interface box needed between the Icom 7610 and the Windows computer? Or, is the Icom 7610 connected directly to the Window computer? Is a special USB cable needed? Is the USB cable included with the Icom 7610? If the Icom 7610 can be connected directly to the Windows computer, is there any advantage to using an interface box, like the SignaLink box between the Zico’s 7610 and the Windows computer?
The Icom 7100, 7200, 7300, 7610 can all be directly connected to a computer using a standard usb cable with no special audio interface box needed or desired. 73, Jarrad VK3BL :)
Hi Jarrad, i have a question. If you compare displays on 7610 and 7300, which one has the better contrast, or darker black and brighter white color on the screen? And which one has the better pixel resolution? I don't mean size but pixel density. Thank you very much! Paul OM0ET
nice video, it got me on the air making my first psk31 contact! Is there a way to scroll back to view qso? I realize now I was too late setting up sd card so that I could have saved the qso. However, I see what looks like a bar (right hand side in ask decode box) for scrolling to view qso. Is that accurate and if so how do I use it? Thanks so much enjoy your videos immensly. de KD2LMR

I think your wrong psk is used a lot. i din`t have any problems getting signals.. from the UK.

Thanks for the QSO on FT8 yesterday. I have a question, and have found what I see is a bug on the 7610. Maybe you can confirm. When I saw RTTY traffic on 30M yesterday, the mark and space width were in a different place than the default setting. So I tried to go into the menu to change the Mark Frequency and Width. I go to: Menu -> Function -> RTTY Mark Frequency, change it to 1275. Push on 1275 to confirm it. And then back out of the menus.
When you go out of the Main menu, it deactivates the RTTY Display... so, what to do? You have to punch the RTTY Decode (app) again.
And the signal settings for the Mark Frequency revert to default.
Can you try your and see if you can reproduce the issue -- or help point out something I overlooked? -N7TWP
Hello Karl and Jarrad, I wanted to say that I am having the same problem as Karl with the RTTY display being deactivated when I change the Mark frequency and Shift (spacing/width). So, work your magic Jarrad and see if there is a way around this. Best Regards from California!
